CD-ActionJul 23, 2021This cute Zelda-like 2D action adventure is a remake of Monster World IV, a Sega Mega Drive/Genesis game from 1994. I enjoyed this rad but surprisingly short (6 hours tops!) walk down the memory lane with beautiful re-recorded music. The only things that bothered me were overly old-school boss battles and some minor performance issues. [08/2021, p.47]

Jun 27, 2021The lack of autosave feature, primitive bosses and orthodox platforming feels like a something from the past. But at the same time, there's nothing wrong with the idea of bringing back old, but visually updated classic. Hardcore fans definitely can appreciate a game like this.

Jun 25, 2021A modern remaster of the 16 bit original. Asha in Monster World is a rather enjoyable and classic, but nevertheless outdated game.
-
Jun 1, 2021Asha in Monster World wears its retro heart on its sleeve, with the modern graphical overhaul only helping to increase its charm. For fans of classic games and platformers, it is definitely worth a shot, though you will need to be ready to overlook a few quirks.
-
May 28, 2021Asha in a Monster World thus remains a nifty platform game, which will above all succeed in transporting fans of the original title.

Nov 22, 2021Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is fine. The core game mechanics may feel outdated for new players, but those who have played the original entry on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive will appreciate how the game hasn't deviated from that blueprint. The presentation is fine in parts, but the game offers no incentives to keep playing once you finish it. Those with a fondness for the original will love this, but those with no memories of the game will find this to be lacking compared to the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap and the last sequel, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.

Jun 7, 2021I honestly don’t know if Wonder Boy IV was a real blast in 1994 since I could not play it then. What I know is that Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is not a blast today. It’s kinda average in everything it does, but what I really can’t bear is how the new art style feels like a significant downgrade over the magical 16-bit pixel art.
-
May 25, 2021Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is a low budget remake which is perhaps too faithful to a mediocre installment in the beloved franchise.
-
Jun 27, 2021Wonder Boy returns except it’s actually Monster World and you’re a girl. This is the least confusing part of this mess of a remake featuring Dreamcast era graphics, poor translations, and lazy settings and textures that create a situation that is less of a history lesson on Wonder Boy and more an essay on why some things should just be left to history.
-
May 28, 2021I also have to stress that Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World isn’t a bad game. Some of the backtracking got annoying, but mostly it’s just monotonous. The mechanics are tight enough, I just can’t help but shrug at the final product. I’m always happy when an old title is given new life, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to end up loving it.
-
Jun 7, 2021Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is an exceedingly bland experience. This remake trades heavily on the 90s nostalgia factor, but fails to consider that, with the original only released outside of Japan in 2012, few will have played Monster World 4 in order to have any feelings of nostalgia about it. Sadly, all those playing the game for the first time will find little to get excited about.
-
Jun 7, 2021Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World is a basic platformer that never holds your excitement, with mechanics that just don't work anymore.
-
Jun 3, 2021Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World earned its reputation decades ago as a fun action platformer, but this new remake does nothing to hide how much this classic has degraded with age.
