Feb 24, 2021Snappily paced, beautifully written and a visual treat, Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Heart of the Forest does apt justice to its sprawling source material and represents a great place for newcomers to the mythos to get started. Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Heart of the Forest is the best visual novel to come along in a long time.

Feb 24, 2021Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest is an interesting mix of werewolf myths based on a role-playing codex and real-life eco-activism in the form of a low-key interactive story. There really was protests in Białowieża national forest in 2016 where the game draws its inspiration from. Usually, visual novels are a whole lot less involving as choices in them are often just superficial. Here, though, you must really go under Maia’s skin and talk and act like you would in her place. The game does not try to embrace the world but is a strictly controlled experience. Its prose is punctual and sufficiently descriptive and keeps pace with today’s important matters. The angle is strongly on the side of spirituality and nature, as well as accepting what really makes you. Aided by strong visual sense and deep but not preaching writing, Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of the Forest is a reminiscent of the fact that good gaming entertainment needs nothing more than an intriguing story and necessary means to convey it.

Feb 24, 2021With a unique art style, effective use of sound and plenty of lore, Heart of the Forest is well worth checking out if you’re a fan of visual novels and the werewolf genre itself. It’s just a shame there wasn’t more of it.

Mar 12, 2021An interesting but quite short visual novel that acts as a nice introduction to the PnP Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

Feb 24, 2021Heart of the Forest is an advisable experience for an evening of relaxation and deepening of the narrative universe of the World of Darkness.

Playstation Official Magazine UKApr 6, 2021While its underpinnings are strong, it never fulfils its potential, and there are probably some lessons on how not to write a visual novel in here. If you came for cool werewolves, you’ll probably be bogged down by all the deforestation stuff. If you came for an environmental story, you may well be overwhelmed by World Of Darkness lore. Either way, it’s a miss, but it does at least aim in the right direction. [Issue#187, p.81]
