When it’s all said and done Under Night as a whole is a great fighting game. Although, I d have a small issues with the $49.99 price tag when the previous version was only half of that. With the [st] version out with new fighters, new mechanics, and a much needed full tutorial with challenge modes it makes this the best version yet. I highly suggest checking this game out for hardcore fans of the fighting game genre. It’s fast, fun, complex, and very stylish. If you’re not that big into fighting games, you may want to look elsewhere. This has the potential to be an easy to learn game, but it will take a lot of patience and practice to hold your own online.

Exe:Late[st] takes the delicious Under Night cake and adds an entire extra layer of your favorite flavor, plus the garnishes and decorative frosting to make it stand out again, 3 years later.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a sublime fighting game, with a lot of content to enjoy, a varied gameplay and a generous roster. The graphics show their age, but the art direction is still pretty unique. Despite the fact that several fighting games were released in the past few weeks, this one should be on top of your list.

This title improves where it predecessor failed, including new game modes that teach the fundamental mechanics and movements to learn to play and improving playability with new techniques making the title quite accessible from newbies to veterans. With four new characters, reaching 20 in total, and quite extras and game modes to play, this title becomes an interesting option in the genre.

A great choice for those who seek a 2D "anime" fighting game. Under Night in-Birth Exe contains both great content and excellent combat system.

Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late{st} is a fighting game that deserves to be played but will inevitably be overshadowed by its competition. It’s a shame because its $50 price tag is worth it for the tutorial alone.

It doesn't have any groundbreaking additions, but the game still is a very interesting choice for those looking for a new 2D fighter, or for those who missed the previous version. Or, of course, for the hardcore fans of the franchise.

With combos and accessibility akin to Dragon Ball FighterZ and deep, intricate mechanics like Tekken and Injustice, it truly caters to whoever chooses to pick up a controller. A diverse and unique cast, an electric soundtrack and exciting visuals make for ferocious fights, and while the competition is hot in the fighting game genre right now it’s undoubtedly worth a peek.

Quick on the attack and heavy on style, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a fighting game that requires an equal mix of brawn and brain to survive its unique take on all-or-nothing fisticuffs.

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] brings new additions to the table, but doesn’t offer massive improvements over the games that came before it. It’s very much a reminder of a bygone era where an incremental upgrade led to a “new” entry in a series, but this does at least include quality of life improvements thanks to the overhauled storyline presentation. Anyone who has a prior version of the game will know what they’re getting into here, while newcomers should have a blast if they enjoy a faster-paced Guilty Gear-style affair.

In a crowded period for fighting games, French-Bread has come out with a very strong contender that should not be overlooked. Although Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a port instead of an entirely brand new title, there is enough added here - and the game is that good - that it deserves all the attention it gets. Dedicated fans will appreciate the comprehensive chronicle mode that addresses the previous version's shortcomings, whilst the level of depth gone into enabling both casual and long-time fighting players to get invested thanks to the excellent tutorial and mission modes contributes to the overall satisfyingly packed range of content. A balanced cast and intricate combat system top off this stylish anime fighter.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a great middle ground between the Street Fighters and the anime fighters that exist today with a deep and yet accessible gameplay and great tutorial.

Fantastic. The Vorpal system is a clever twist on the format, adding a neat extra layer of strategy to the game, but it's the cast that really makes Under Night In-Birth stand out. There's so much love and creativity gone into the roster, and that, more than anything else, will make or break a fighting game.

Under Night In-Birth Exe Night: Late[st] is a fighting game based on a solid gameplay and able to offer a great challenge. Despite the fact that it provides a good support to newcomers, the game only offers its best if you can fully master the intense and excited rhythms of the combat system. 2D graphic and the typical Japanese character design are an added value or a minor flaw, depending on your taste. In any case, we're facing a carefully, crafted game, which certainly deserves a chance if you're a fan of the genre.

Decent retro beat-em-up with an interesting battle system. But you’ll have to invest some time to understand and use all the subtleties it has to offer.

Under Night In-Birth Late[st] is the complete package for fighting game fans, with the visual novel-like story being the only potential let down for anyone that isn’t used to how Arc System Works do things. It’s even worth buying, despite the excellent recent fighting game releases, because the combo flexibility and accessibility for both experienced and inexperienced fighting game fans are fairly unique even among fighters.

Good fighting game that may be too ugly for a 2018 fighter, but manages to entertain during a substantial amount of time.

Under Night's biggest problem is that it never truly feels like a PlayStation 4 game, due to mediocre graphics and a story that never manages to truly take off. However, if you're not all that bothered by this, the game's unique characters and fleshed out online modes will keep you busy for a long time to come.

When it comes to accessible 2D fighting, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a worthwhile game that's sure to provide hours of enjoyable combat. Just don't expect any big surprises if you already played the original game.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] should satisfy fans of the fighting genre, if they are willing to look past its flaws and spend time perfecting the art of combat for the game's sometimes shaky online mode. As a single player experience, it is well-suited for a couple of friends to pass the time thanks to being fun and accessible.

Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late[st], despite having a preposterous title, is simple to pick up, but deep enough to deserve dozens of hours of study. While dated, the art design is top-notch, and a few of the stories which I was primed to scoff at proved surprisingly interesting. I may never have the reflexes to excel at something like Under Night, but I can appreciate developers doing excellent work.

Under Night In-Birth EXE: Late (ST) is a deep and complex fighting game which gives players the tools to learn and master its systems and mechanics. The game however, is showing its age with ugly level design and boring menus. Whilst gameplay should come first, there are other fighters out there that are more of a complete package.

With Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late, we've got another deep Japanese fighting experience on the PS4. It doesn’t have the looks to go toe-to-toe with some of the shinier games out there, but as Han Solo said, "she might not look like much, but she’s got it where is counts". If you can get past the mad title, this is a portal through which to jump in to the virtually endless realm of combat experimentation.

Under Night In-Birth:Exe Late[st] is a game showing its age but the complexity of its systems continue to shine. A diverse roster should hopefully be complimented by a burgeoning online community. As it is, there's plenty of single-player content, even if the AI is a touch predictable. There's a likeable game at the heart of this with enjoyable combat. I just wish more was put into the presentation.

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] proposes a solid and not prohibitive combat system. Thanks to the matchmaking, and stability problems that we found during online matches and also to the not so high quality of all the game modes, we can say that Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] is a step below the other Arc System works’ productions.

Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st] is an excellent fighting game, but if you’ve already played through Exe: Late on the PS3, there’s not much here to entice you to upgrade. The new Chronicles Mode is ultimately a disappointing slog. While there are two new characters to learn and master, with the current fighting game climate, there’s likely not many people you’ll be able to try them out against. It’s a shame, because Exe: Late[st] is a fine fighting game in its own right, but will inevitably be lost in the shuffle.

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a 2D fighting game developed by French Bread, author of Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax and Melty Blood,Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is a 2D fighting game developed by French Bread, author of Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax and Melty Blood, in partnership with Arc System Works, a studio that has a huge experience in fighting games such as the original Guilty Gear series and BlazBlue, as well as Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and most recently Dragon Ball FighterZ. This game is a update of the game Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late.

As it is an updated version, the differences from the previous version are the existence of four new characters - Enkido, Mika, Phonon and Wagner - and the existence of a story mode that the previous didn't have. Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late [st] features Arcade, Versus, Score Attack, Time Attack, Survival, Training, Tutorial, Network, Mission and Chronicles game modes, the latter being the story mode of the game. Each character has its own chronicle and is explained through dialogues in the style of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. However, this Under Night suffers from the same defect as Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, namely the exaggeratedly long dialogues. As we complete all the chapters of a character, we unlock other characters' chronicles and so on.

The graphical style is very similar to the Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, in other words, it does not use the same 2.5D technique of Guilty Gear Revelator and Dragon Ball FighterZ, but they are still very good. The sprites are of great quality, the movements and animations of the characters were treated to the smallest detail, and seeing an Infinite Worth EXS of any character is a real treat for our eyes.

You already know what the main objective of fighting games is, to prevent our energy bar from reaching zero and to remove the entire life bar from our opponent. The game uses a four-button system, A-Light attacks, B-Medium attacks, C-Strong attacks, and D-Universal mechanic (x). The latter has the function of reloading GrD gauge (middle bar), among other things. But we can also perform hits like Grab (A + D), extra attack (B + C) or a very powerful blow, called Infinite Worth EXS (A + B + C + D), which can only be performed if the character has the EXS bar at 100% and the life bar at 30%. This EXS bar if it is 100% or higher, can also be used for a sort of "Awakening" (Veil off), which makes the attacks slightly more powerful. GrD gauge is good for a lot of things, for example, it can be used to fill the EXS bar. There is a huge variety of combos, and some of them are extremely complicated to play, which can to put away some novice players. The Combat (1 vs 1) is fluid and balanced, and even if we stay against the wall, if the user repeats the same blow twice, the third blow will no longer work. Yes, some characters execute projectiles, but fortunately there is a way to avoid those things.

In total there are 20 characters, including the four new ones in this version, and they all have different moves and punches from each other and specific special attacks. For each bout won we get points, which can be used to acquire cards, icons, titles and illustrations and among many other things. As for the soundtrack, well... I got a tear in the corner of my eye that's so great it is. Overall, Arc System Works and French Bread did a very good job, and this title is recommended to all fans of Guilty Gear, BlazBlue and other Arc System Works jobs.
