Simply amazing graphics fail to make up for the hollow characters, predictable plot line, simple puzzles, and linear in-game play.

At no point of the game is there any real suspense despite a harder than average difficulty setting. All cliff climbing (about 25%) of the game could be complete by a small child. A real disappointment following The Last of Us which was superb. Would not buy.

What icings the cake is that the graphics are some of the best I have ever seen while playing on a console. Before I start my review, I have to say that you 100% must play the first 3 games before playing this one, not to understand what’s going on or to enjoy it, but to get out all of it you can, you need to play those games.
This is a love letter to the fans, a goodbye letter to series, and it’s beautiful.
Uncharted 4 A Thiefs end is a much slower game than the trilogy... there is some cover based shooting sprinkled through this 15 hour campaign, but just sprinkled..
This game is all about storytelling and set pieces…
I’ve cried playing games, but not as much as I’ve cried playing this game
And that isn’t to say anything sad happens, maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t..
But either way knowing this is goodbye, every artifact and picture crushed my soul.
This is a bit of an origins story… How Nathan Drake became a thief, how he learned to do all of the awesome things he does…as well as a full circle
A thief’s end introduced Nathan Drakes older brother Sam,
I knew Sam was a thing thanks to trailers and I didn’t expect to care about him at all.. but it didn’t take long for me to care about him just as much as the other characters I’ve grown with over the past 9 years
Sam gets out of prison and comes to you to help him clear a debt, so you set out with him to find Avery’s Treasure
After a beautiful slow start, the hunt for this treasure is where it really starts to pick up and become that cover shooter we all know and love..
    But again... only sprinkled…
There is much more emphasis on stealth this time around, being able to take out enemies in tall grass…
Having played the campaign on both explorer and crushing mode… crushing mode being first…
I’ve found that crushing mode not only makes you die faster...
But it also makes stealth in this game near impossible, as enemies have an immersion breaking alertness to them…
Many frustrating moments in crushing difficulty that I never experienced in explorer
but the main focus of this game is again the set pieces… the platforming...
I’ve never been a fan of the uncharted platforming mechanics…
It’s still no assassin’s creed, but this is miles better than it’s ever been…
Throwing a grappling hook on the fly, sliding down hills for a boost to make a jump
its exhilarating to pull off a lot of these jump without a 2nd thought...
And if I did fall, I rarely ever feel like I fell because of the game….
The fault felt much more on me than it did in past games…
There is also tons of driving through beautiful locations…
you can even hop out of these open locations to look for something I also am not a huge fan of in uncharted... the collectible treasures…
I personally despise collectibles outside of open world games, simply because for me at least they are the most immersion breaking aspect of any linear style of game…
I’m exploring every cave and crevice, not because I’m intrigued, but because there’s a trophy for finding all the stuff…
Meanwhile the journal entries are done perfectly as a lot of the time they are found naturally, or within the last of us style environmental dialog
Speaking of the last of us,
the influence of that game really sticks out here as the majority of the game you’ll have someone with you to help you overcome the many obstacles this game throws at you.
There is also a competitive online multiplayer with a variety of classes to choose from all having their own weapons and perks like a side kick, or med packs…
There are some pretty annoying microstransactions here to unlock other characters and customization options like alternate costumes and taunts, but thankfully you are able to unlock multiplayer items by earning in game currency throughout matches
While Uncharted 4 may feel more like a 15 hour movie than it does a game, I still feel that this a masterly crafted farewell to one of the greatest series to have ever existed.

Most of the reviews for this title seem to concentrate on how the game looks, rather than the experience. There is absolutely no doubt the game is a well crafted and a lot of time and passion has gone into giving the series it's final chapter. My problems with the game is that it is just so underwhelming. Once the credits rolled I looked back on my adventure, compared it against others of the series and felt hollow. The large scale ridiculous set pieces that the Uncharted series is known for are unfortunately sparse. As a result, it fizzles, instead of bangs. A damp squib. On top of this, the puzzles aren't nearly as well crafted, often only taking a small amount of thought to solve. Most of the game revolves around climbing, walking and shooting, which although was exciting in previous adventures, feels frankly dated. The storyline (no spoilers) does excel, due to Naughty Dog reigning it in a little. With the last of us Naughty Dog have seemed to really hone excellent characterisation and some more poignant, sentimental moments. The same applies here. Overall, the story is not quite as ridiculous as the other games. This foot planted in an element of (far fetched) reality does give it the grounding it needs, but does make it a little dull as a result. It's a good game, enjoyable no doubt. Just don't expect to be as blown away as the critics make out. Expand

Uncharted 4 is a great ending chapter to Drakes story. Naughty Dog has done an amazing job wrapping up the story for most if not all of the main characters, and possibly even setting up a new character to start a new game with.

Uncharted 4 is a great ending chapter to Drakes story. Naughty Dog has done an amazing job wrapping up the story for most if not all of the main characters, and possibly even setting up a new character to start a new game with.

As far as story goes, it feels great. I love all the little cut scenes as Drake as he copes with a normal life. You can really tell that him and Elena miss the adventurous life they both used to live. There is a scene early on in the game where you two sit down on a couch and just talk about things. This may seem slow to some but it felt awesome to me. They do a great job setting up both the story to come and in the past. Now as far as the plot driver, your brother, who has mysteriously never been mentioned before, I felt he was a bit forced in as a character, but Naughty Dog does set up a good reason as why he hasn't been around. Even so he does feel weak as a character to previous characters in the last 3 games. The villain of the game i felt was the best of the 4 games, though the previous villains always felt like weak characters as well.

As far as the game play, it is fun but i feel inventive. Something about the cover just doesn't feel right after playing another Naughty Dog game, Last of Us. Sometimes you will just get stuck on cover when you want to move around to a different side or switch from one to another. I wish this was improved on from the previous games. Another issue with the cover in this game in particular is that they really wanted to show off how great this game looks, and trust me it looks breathtaking. Almost every cover that you come across in the game is destructible. Why is that bad you ask me? Well read on about some of the harder difficulties below.

The gun play feels just as good as Last of Us or other third person shooters like Gears of War, but what kills the action for me is the AI. Both your companion and the enemy AI are very unimpressive. Most enemies will stand out in the open just shooting you, or lobbing grenade after grenade. As the game progresses you will come across shot-gunners and mini-gun guys. They are heavily armored and all they will do is walk slowly to you, even in the open. Other enemies will just rush you, sometimes with more powerful weapons and easily kill you. Most sections you will start out on one of the destructible covers i had mentioned earlier and with the limited ammo you have you cant really take your time as one side you are being pushed and the other just endlessly shoots your cover quickly destroying it. Now don't get me wrong, i love a challenging game, and of course there are easier modes that can be selected, but the actual AI does not try to get you out of cover by moving cover to cover and flanking you, they more just run at you and continually shoot at you.

Another disappointment is that they had added a grenade throwback feature in Uncharted 3, but it is missing once again here. This would of been a really nice feature as enemies will throw them at you....endlessly.

A few things they have added is a rope to swing to new cliffs, making you feel like Tarzan, and a pick that you can stab into some cliffs to climb up, but it doesn't feel as open as the climbing pick from Tomb Raider.

Overall, the reason I play the Uncharted games were for the story, characters, visuals and environment, but the combat leaves something to be desired. The combat is not bad, I just feel it was done better in other Naughty Dog and third person shooters.

If you have played the first 3 or enjoy fantastic characters and story, this is a must by for PS4 owners.

Like the other games in the series, it featured some of the natural faults of parkour controls (here's looking at you, Assassin's Creed) like Nathan not jumping to the handhold you want as well as the annoying typical Uncharted difficulty spike during the final chapters. The story was also somewhat predictable, even in a couple of its twists. However, the sheer excellence this game boasts in every other area is what earns that 10. The story, while predictable at times, is as fun as ever, and the introduction of Nathan's brother Sam is a fun change-up on the Nate/Sully pair. The performances and mo-cap work are as flawless as ever, and the actor's excellent performances really allow us to buy into the story. This also serves as a beautiful end to Nate's saga, with a truly unique epilogue. This is the closest a game has ever come to being full-blown cinema (at least in the games I've played). This is helped along by the absolutely stunning graphics. In 15 years of gaming, I don't think I ever let my mouth drop at visuals...until the opening sequences of Uncharted 4. Seriously, this is one of the most gorgeous and stunning games *ever*. The gameplay is tight and fun. Both stealth and brute force work equally well, but best in tandem. The set pieces are crazy as always, and the final boss battle was probably one of my favorites I've ever played. Last but not least, I've also really enjoyed diving into the multiplayer. Eschewing the traditional leveling system works well in this case, and the cosmetic bonuses are fun ways to utilize progression. All in all, Uncharted 4 is one of my favorite gaming experiences I've ever had. I would recommend ti (and the rest of the series for that matter) to anyone--not just gamers. Expand

Pacing is great; the story starts off slow because it needs to introduce several characters that was in Nate's past but never mentioned in the previous 3 games (Rafe, Sam, Nadine), to make them coherent to the plot, and right after that the game takes off. Animation is gorgeous, facial expression is amazing, and all the characters are love-able (villains included). Some tracks in the game are quality orchestration, but for the most part the rest are not memorable. Gameplay is the typical Uncharted series plus grappling hook but with better animation, so don't expect great innovation in that department. I like the darker tone of this game because it really grounds Nathan Drake and also concludes his saga (unfortunately). A must buy for PS4 gamers. Expand

It is clear that Naughty Dog has taken all of the lessons they learned from the first 3 Uncharted's and The Last Of Us and once again created a masterpiece for the PS4. Nathan Drake's final adventure is perhaps the most engaging and thought-provoking yet, thanks to excellent writing and performances. However, the real strength of Uncharted 4 is the way it is able to combine story and gameplay with such grace. The game can be a little too difficult at times and the climbing controls could be improved, but those concern easily faded away when I was given the choice to engage a situation with stealth or brute force in the game's much larger sandboxes, or when the banter between Nathan, Elena, Sully, or Nathan's brother, Sam put a smile on my face or brought me to edge of tears. While playing Uncharted 4's 12-14 hour story, I never wanted to put the controller down. It's a story about family, self-examination, and even storytelling itself. And to top it all off, there is an engaging and provocative multiplayer in the package as well, with intense gameplay and tons of unlocks. Uncharted 4 is a game that AAA developers can only dream of creating. If this really is the end, Nathan Drake couldn't have asked for a better sendoff. Expand

This game is so far the best game of 2016 and one of the best games on PS4. I haven't played any of the other Uncharted games but I really enjoyed this one. First off, the graphics are amazing. This by far the best looking game on the PS4. The gameplay is great and has a little bit of everything, there is a balanced amount of action and shooting, stealth, puzzles, and parkour. I have to admit some parts are slightly more boring than others. The beginning of the game is a bit slow but then it picks up the pace and the action starts happening. The gunfights are good, and there is a decent amount of guns to use. Some weapons are much better than others though, which isn't really much of a bad thing. The hand-to-hand combat isn't the best and is kinda dull but its not to often. The stealth is simple yet fun. The puzzles are either really hard or really easy but there pretty cool. I have to admit the parkour/climbing isn't all that great and is kinda boring ant too often. But I love the swinging. Its super fun swinging around and killing guys like rambo/spiderman/tarzan/indianajones. The story is great and makes you care about the characters. My only problem is that Sam doesn't appear in any of the other games and you can tell they had to find a way to fit him into the story. But you'd think that since Sam was such an important part in Nathan's life he would have at least been mentioned in other games. Oh well, still a great story. Another thing that bugged me (like I mentioned before) was the boring parkour parts especially towards the end of the game I started getting really bored with the parkour. The multiplayer is pretty fun, but I wouldn't get this game just for the multiplayer. If anybody gives this game a bad review they should be whipped with a giant wet noodle. Definitely worth $60 Thats it. The game may not be perfect but I'm still gonna give it a 10/10 cuz its so good.

honestly its visuals are stunning and thats the reason I will finish it, however the gameplay to me is boring, coming from dark souls 3 and into doom right now, those are games meant to be played, but uncharted 4 is more like a movie with some shooting gameplay in between, presentation is top notch but somehow i just don't feel it in this one... sorry

It's so boring that I cannot play for more than half an hour without risking to fall asleep. The shooting sections are great by far. But all the rest climbing just pressing X is so boring

Naughty Dog has done it again with Uncharted 4. This is easily one of the best games ever made, up there with The Last of Us and the rest of the Uncharted series. If you have a PS4 I recommend it and if you don't then you might want to consider getting one, you won't be disappointed. Expand

Originally I was a little annoyed that people (user score) gave this game abysmal ratings so I gave it a 10 and didn't bother writing a review. Anyway, now that I've finished the game I was annoyed enough to come back and change my rating.

This game is pretty good. It doesn't merit a 10 nor a 9 but it certainly doesn't merit anything in the 0-3 range either.

The graphics were as expected, pretty great. Some people are saying it doesn't compare to other games but for me to actually bother taking prtingscreens throughout the whole game, I think its close enough to a 10/10 on graphics.

The ladder and crate mechanic in order to simply delay your progress to add dialogue and to allegedly mask a short game destroys immersion and is completely unnecessary. I say short game because there's a trophy that asks you to finish it in under 6 hours (Took me 15 hours). The dialogue with the characters could have been handled better than using this mechanic, especially since the whole time I kept thinking "use the rope moron" Without spoiling too much the conversations you had while ridding the elevator with your truck was one way to handle it or simply the driving around convos. The crate thing I could've forgiven if it didn't happen so frequently. One of the things I dreaded the most in the entire game wasn't drowning by not finding an exit underwater in time it was, when is the next damn scene where I'm stuck doing nothing for several minutes because of a crate scene. There was one particular event where I instantly figured out what needed to be done yet I had to play along with whatever the creators had in mind until the game basically said "OK you played along with our time sink we'll let you continue".

The pirate story overall was top notch and I really enjoyed it. I really can't say anything bad about how it was presented. As for the non-pirate stuff. The confrontation between the married couple felt sloppy and overall awkward to the point where I figured if they would have just broken up right then and there we could move on with the real story.

The final battle was disappointing because it strongly felt like it was just a rhythm game. If they would have handled it with maybe a bit of action or something and tossed in some "rhythm gaming" in between it wouldn't have been so bad. Still it managed to be intense because, since I avoided social media for several days to escape spoilers, I really had no clue what would happen.

I liked most of the characters however I got to say I was disappointed with the Nadine character. She felt forced and out of place and in the end it felt like they just dropped her out of the game and gave up on her (this isn't very accurate but I don't want to spoil too much). Victor was great as usual but was severely underused, though this is most likely because of the brothers plot so it's almost forgivable.

This game was worth buying but I'm glad the series appears to be over because I don't think I'd buy Uncharted 5 unless they promised to drop the time sinks. At least the artifacts were not obligatory because after awhile I just gave up on them.

This is one of the best games that I have ever seen, In my opinion obviously. This is because the campaign is so amazing, but in a way, because it doesn't follow too much the main story of the saga. I'll give it a 9

Uncharted is a franchise that is a true system-seller for PlayStation. The fourth entry in this franchise does not disappoint and, while not introducing anything new or ground-breaking, A Thief's End provides a satisfying conclusion to the Nathan Drake story.

Firstly, this game and this world is completely and utterly breathtaking. In my opinion, the best looking game of all time as everything from plants and vegetation to fire and explosions look realistic, and the characters during cutscenes look like it is pulled from a movie. The voice-acting is still the best of any game or franchise I've ever played, with a strong performance by Troy Baker adding to the already outstanding cast. The gameplay is solid, and one of my complaints about The Last of Us was that it felt too slow and repetitive, though some parts of this game (Scotland in particular) does feel similar, the gameplay provides enough excitement and variety to keep you interested.

Having said this, there is a part in the game where I completely lost interest. The prologue and early parts of the story you mainly watch, but these are excellent as it shows that Nathan Drake is struggling to cope with retirement. Once the adventure starts and you find yourself climbing and jumping and climbing and jumping it does take a while for the game to re-hook you. Though the characters are so interesting and entertaining, the story as to why Drake's brother Sam has turned up and how he gets Drake back into the business seems a little convenient, and you wonder how any of the aspects were not mentioned in earlier games.

All in all though, I will give Uncharted 4 the same score as I provided The Last of Us, 8/10). Naughty Dog creates gaming experiences and, though The Last of Us tugged at the heart strings slightly more with a more interesting story, Uncharted 4 provides more exciting gameplay and more interesting characters that I personally cared more about. All in all, a very good game that everyone with a PS4 should really experience.

As we've come to expect graphics are incredible. Story is probably the best in the series but the mechanics of this game are now seriously dated. With this new gen ND had a chance to upgrade the traversal and combat and have decided to do nothing but improve animations.

Here's the problem with all of the U games...climbing has NO RISK. No risk equals no reward. No reward EQUALS BOREDOM. This is a cardinal sin of gaming design. You cannot have a mechanic that the player can easily overcome with virtually zero effort.

Every route is telegraphed and often completely linear. Timing is not required, absolutely no skill is required. What should be an incredibly tense "climb" becomes a sightseeing expedition. It's a huge oversight. Climbing was actually perfected in Shadow of the colossus where managing your grip and timing was utterly essential.

In the world of interactive games anything that has no risk should be removed from the game. As a consequence there a many long and tedious sequences of traversal. The new sliding mechanic does NOTHING to alleviate this problem and the game sputters to a seriously anti-climactic finale.

They would have you believe that the world has multiple routes....it doesn't, they're just loops.

Combat engine: well it's seriously wonky and on rails. Rocksteady perfected the multiple enemy combat scenario and no one has come close. For all their technical ability (anyone remember the highly dodgy pub fight in U3?) ND still cannot get this right.

Story: It's probably the best, or most rounded. The problem is I don't want to watch a movie, I want to be a part of one. There simply aren't enough WOWSPLOSIONS considering this is meant to be the series finale.

The game peaks at the mud jeep sequence which is SPECTACULAR. But after that..there's real pacing issues and it's an absolute slog to get to the end. Those final chapters just consist of collapsing buildings/ships...so what...we've seen them all before.

Multiplayer: It is saying something that the MP portion of the game is better than the SP.

And even worse throughout my playthrough (BTW UNCHARTED 2 is still the king) I was wishing we had Last of Us 2 instead of this....

    And BTW I don't own a Xbone1. I'm a Sony fan who's just honest....

Uncharted 4 is a landmark title that anyone remotely interested in interactive storytelling should invest in. Naughty Dog has once again raised the bar across the industry. Thrilling shootouts, a staggering level of detail, breathtaking visuals and emotional depth come together to make Uncharted 4: A Thief's End a must-play masterpiece.

Stating that the forthcoming game will be the last rendezvous with a popular, charismatic hero is a rare phenomenon. I congratulate Naughty Dog on their courage and in spite of myself keep my fingers crossed for them to stick to their decision. The farewell party they threw for Nate is simply spectacular. This is how I want to remember him, not as an old man who rubbed his joints with pain cream and then found a UFO. Uncharted 4 is a brilliant game and a breathtaking demonstration of what PS4 is capable of. [07/2016, p.56]
