I'm a typography nerd and I absolutely love the look and style of this game — graphically rich, side-scrolling puzzles embraced with history. The largest downside is the controls are beyond frustrating! Trying to get any sort of pinpoint accuracy is impossible and you have to constantly rely on luck. I nearly threw my PS4 out the window trying to complete the infuriating bonus level. I nearly threw my PS4 out the window trying to complete the infuriating bonus level. The feeling leaves you annoyed rather than entertained. But hey, it's currently free to download on the PS4 store so it was worth a shot! Still, I loved many things about this game — especially the backdrops and uniqueness of each level — but would love to see a fine-tuned sequel. Expand

Type:Rider is a platform game that takes you through the history of fonts with the player taking control of a colon and attempting to traverse various obstacles, and collect the letters A - Z along the way if possible (I’m not making this up!).

In all honesty it’s hard to imagine many people being all that interested in a detailed account of how and why certain fonts were created but

In all honesty it’s hard to imagine many people being all that interested in a detailed account of how and why certain fonts were created but the idea does allow for some interesting design, both in terms of visuals and gameplay. The platforming itself, whilst occasionally frustrating, is also generally fairly good fun.

It only took around three hours to complete and I don’t have any inclination to play through it again, but overall Type:Rider is decent little indie game.

    Type Rider
    From fun to frustrating
Type Rider is a side scrolling platforming Games where you play as a colon 2 dots not the other one The game starts out pretty okay, decently fun, learning the history of fonts.. hopping on letters and slowly this 2 hours game gets more and more challenging… I really enjoyed the first half.. it was pretty numbing.. simple and enjoyable enough…

    hopping on letters
and slowly this 2 hours game gets more and more challenging…
I really enjoyed the first half..
    it was pretty numbing..
    simple and enjoyable enough…
a few puzzles thrown in there to get a white dot into a slot and move on…
    But as the challenge increased..
the less fun the game got…
These dots aren’t exactly the most fluent characters in platforming game history..
one will weigh the other down…
you can balance with the triggers, but throughout my journey I never got the hangout it
I button mashed my way through the frustrating final level which by the way also feature a game braking bug
This game has a feature where if youre stuck you can press triangle to restart a section of a chapter…
Of course id bump this button way too many times on a table while frustratingly trying to balance these characters mid air only to lose my progress…
And one of these accidental redos set me a good ways back and when I got to the point I was at in the level, it was closed off and I couldn’t progress,
so I had to exit the level and retry this frustrating section again..
Most of the few final levels are frustrating as they make you deal with the balancing mechanic that the game never really prepares you for..
youre just suddenly forced to use it after you learned about it way back in the tutorial…
But frustrations aside.. none of the levels are really interesting or well design..
aside for some very few and tiny neat moments in the game..
The level design really just feels like a bunch of random levels all over the place and nothing more…
Type Rider is an okay time..
    Nothing Special..
Nothing youll remember after you reach its credits..
    I give Type Rider
    a 5/10

The game has some really nice mechanics to it, and it feels very solid to play. It's pretty short, but it doesn't feel frustrating or buggy to play. I'd recommend it to anyone that is looking for something quick to play, and like platforming games.

I have no reservations when it comes to rating a praiseworthy indie game positively. I do not even care about the budget or the graphic quality if the ideas are interesting and they are expressed in a wise and consistent way.

Type:Rider is a good example of this. Not only is it perfect in artistic terms (levels are carefully designed in each case), but it is also a direct and enjoyable

Learning is not a must when playing a video game, but Type:Rider does teach the player who wants to learn about the history of typography.

However short or limited it may be in comparison with bigger productions, I see no reason why this game does not deserve a 9.

Bel viaggio nella storia della scrittura e della tipografia, livelli denominati come font famosi dal Gothic al Pixel, arricchito dai tanti documenti che si sbloccano man mano che si prosegue

Overally, Type: Rider felt like a relatively basic platformer. The educational aspect of the game falls just short of being meaningfully employed; instead feeling more like wrapping paper. I’d recommend it if you or someone you know is into fonts and/or history, but otherwise it doesn’t truly standout.

I loved Type:Rider and I’m not sure if the reason for this is my utter nerdiness when it comes to learning about the English language. However, no matter your interest in learning about fonts, this is a fun and peaceful game that is great for sitting back and relaxing while still playing your PS4. Type:Rider is one of the best puzzle games I’ve played this year and I can’t wait to get back to it.

With a better level design it could've been a new modern classic, but it still is a beautiful and enjoyable game with a couple of outstanding sequences.
