Onto the game itself, I have a base PS4 and this game runs smoothly on it and the graphics are good for this kind of game, your not going to get a Star Wars Battlefront level of photo-realism but on a base PS4 the graphics hold up nicely. The game itself is what you expect, you pick up deliveries and drop them off, unlike Euro Truck there is a slight narrative aspect to this game with various "mission givers" talking to you via a phone text like system. Now this game is in an early stage but the groundwork is there for a great game, to bring this game on par with Euro Truck it needs to have a bigger map, which good news the developers have stated they will be expanding the map, the game also needs a business element to it like Euro Truck, this is one of the main attractions of Euro Truck and this game needs this, in its current state you do however earn money you can buy new trucks and a few small upgrades as well as upgrade skills with XP earned to increase your fuel economy, income or how long you can drive before needing a sleep. You also have a few small cosmetic options for your trucks which you can unlock and buy, but to really increase the longevity of this game you do need to be able to hire new drivers, buy them a truck and increase their skills as you wish, just like on Euro truck you could train a couple of drivers to do quick deliveries for regular income or train them to do long haul trips for a lot of money over a long period.

A quick message to the devs I hope you read this and take into consideration what I've currently said, obviously in business you want the best product, you want an apple computer or an IPhone and nothing else, Euro Truck Sim represents the best product on the market at the moment and so you need to copy what Euro Truck does best, but also improve on the formula, perhaps you could add an option to walk around? perhaps have the ability to customise garages and maybe rent out upstairs accommodation in the garages for extra profit? or maybe a casino for players to meet up with other truckers to blow away all of their earnings on a game of poker against another player or the AI, but all that is future stuff, right now all you need to do is continue to improve on the core of the game.

So, should you buy this game? if you have wanted a trucking sim on console and don't have access to a PC then certainly, the choice is yours. I have bought this game and although I am a Euro Truck Sim veteran I have wanted a trucking sim on PS4 for ages and I am glad to support the developers, I no longer have access to a PC so this is really now my only option. This game has the groundwork to become the market leader in trucking games on console, the devs behind Euro Truck have stated before that they wouldn't be able to bring Euro Truck Sim onto console because of the many controls, I personally don't believe that, perhaps they will change their mind if this game becomes a success? but that means the devs of Truck Driver need to corner the console market while they can.

With this being the first Truck simulator game for the xbox one, it is game well developed and done. It could use improvements here and there, but its got me hooked as I have clocked in almost 42 hours of gameplay in 3 days! I would recommend purchasing this.

I just wanted a Euro Truck Simulator clone to play on console. It's not quite there, with limited variety and customization, but the core gameplay is decent enough. The gameplay loop itself is just rewarding enough to keep you playing. And perhaps most importantly it nails the one thing Euro Truck simulator did so well. Which is the relaxed vibe the game presents

Truck driver has the potential to be a good game but barely just scrapes across as an average game and here is why.

    - AI vehicles are completely retarded causing traffic jams everywhere.
-Not enough AI vehicles so the world feels empty.
-No law enforcement, so you can just speed everywhere.
-No where near as many customisation options as other Truck sim games have.
-Contracts are boring and not enough variety.
-Side mirrors are so laggy it looks like a bad PS1 game when you are looking through them. And that’s not even the full list of things that are bad in the game I could go on and on. I really do hope the devs release some patches addressing just some of these points as I really want to like this game but for now I will just be rating it as.... Meh/10

The world has a bit more character than the other games of this type, characters with dialogue and all that, and the seaside landscape is nice. The graphics are a bit more stylized and colorful, but not incredibly detailed, which isn't a bad thing necessarily. The realism and control details are fewer here, making it more "casual" to a degree, but this also isn't a bad thing, but they need more to back up the experience as a trade-off.

There needs to be more variety and more challenge, though. More penalties for speeding, collisions, time limits, and things like that, more AI vehicles and other trucks on the road, more pedestrians, etc. Maybe even some random events to keep players on their toes, like car breakdowns/wrecks, etc. (this would be a unique addition that I'd love). Dynamic weather is a must. And of course some map expansion would be nice, since it is a bit too small for this type of game.

I don't think anyone expects this to topple ETS/ATS, but with some tweaks and additions, it can be a respectable alternative for consoles, or at the very least not be laughed off the internet once it releases for PC, because as of right now ETA/ATS are so far ahead that TD in its current state has no chance to compete. Hopefully Soedesco can show people that they have what it takes to support their game, which their reputation up to this point hasn't been too good in that regard. I'll certainly raise my score if they do, since this game really has potential to carve out its own niche in the genre.

Edit: I've raised my score a bit since Soedesco has come out and said they have acquired another developer for the game and are committed to future improvements and updates.

Edit 2: Mid 2020 and they've barely done anything with the game. A few bug fixes and engine update, but brings with it just as many new bugs. Still no map expansion. It might still happen, and I hope it does, and to their credit they're still working on the game, but updates are too slow.

Anyway, the driving really isn't all that impressive. There is no physics to the trucks or any vehicles in the game. You can speed at 100km/h, slam the handbrake and take a turn at 60km/h while with a trailer and nothing bad will happen. No skid marks, you won't flip or take the turn on two wheels.

If you crash into things, your vehicle will take damage shown as a health bar. You can fix, customise and buy trucks at the only garage at the bottom of the map. Very inconvenient. You'll have to refuel at petrol stations and sleep at designated areas.

When completing a mission you'll be rewarded with XP and money. XP allows you to unlock little boosts that improve the overall experience like earning more XP or money or just less fuel.

Gameplay is like GTA V when following the road rules. There are no real consequences for speeding, crashing, driving on the curb or cutting off other drivers. There are 'speed cameras' but when you're earning 1000+ money for a job and paying 250 - 400 money for a ticket, who cares, right?

This is just a very straight forward driving game with mundane missions to pass the time.

For a driving game, it's fun. It's fun overtaking vehicles at 100km/h and slamming on the brakes. It's fun driving into town at 80km/h on the wrong side of the road. As a simulator - forget it. The game performs well. You have graphics options to favour resolution or graphics.

I don't know what this game is supposed to be but...yeah? This game will get boring

The characters are memorable and it is highly satisfying and rewarding to help them develop their companies and fulfil their dreams. I was really excited to finally get a truck simulator on console, and by all merits this does what you would look for in a game like this. At its best, they do look great as you drive over hills, by beaches and through towns. However I have ran into my fair share of graphical glitches with textures stretching across the roads during my first couple of minutes of playing. The frame rate of the video on your side mirrors is very low as well, making them look terrible. So you just drive in the dark. The gameplay can be fun, but the AI isn’t very smart, oftentimes causing backups at 3-way intersections as they just sit there unable to move to make a turn. It’s difficult to read the symbols on the navigation because they’re so small too. Because the speed limit signs are so small I have no idea how fast I’m supposed to be going, so I go over the speed limit.

The map itself is actually pretty small. So unlike Euro Truck Simulator’s two-hour expansive drives, at most your trips may only be a few minutes in this game. It really feels like a very simplified version of the Euro and American Truck Simulator games.

Overall it’s great to have a truck sim finally on console but it is severely lacking. Especially with it’s soon to be competition with it coming to steam. It’s far from being worth the 10/10s it’s getting.

Bought this game Friday was really excited, installed and there was an update 1.12, great I will have all the new fixes. Works fine at first but once you get to third mission for construction crew, you can’t get load, the wheels are in the concrete. So can’t move forward in career mode, and game crashes every 10-15 minutes.

One City, you deliver cargo around one city, don't waste your money like I did, it was on sale, but even for $38, it was such a waste of money, mind you I'm biased, I've played "18 wheels of Steel: American Long Haul" back in the day, now that was a full on Trucker Game.
Truck Driver isn't even a fraction of that game, it's name should really be changed to "Delivery Boy: Big Boy Cargo".

That would make the game recommendable for those willing to get into simulators but, then, there’s the issue of the bugs. There are a million different ones so, even though the game has gotten patched quite often since the game released, Truck Driver, in my opinion, is still not in a “recommendable” state.

Unlike the others mentioned, you work jobs for people, interacting with them in at times funny, at times cringy text messages. The problem here is the joy in ETS and ATS is taking jobs going somewhere, arriving and taking a new job to somewhere else. Not in Truck Driver however, you NEED to go back to a job giver and take a new job. It takes away that feeling of freedom.

Speaking of "feeling", the game feels awful to play due to the dev's I guess never driving a truck? It feels more like a car, and wheightless at that. You accelerate so quickly, regardless of what you're hauling or bob-tailing, and just... all around it doesn't feel good to play.

That plus the frame drops constantly, ugly visuals and myriad of other issues, it's just not a fun game.

There is promise here though, lots of truck customization, a very nice trailer parking system where you try to get 100% perfect rather than just "in the box" and it is nice to have character in the game. But everything around that just isn't fun.

Using the break pedal to go in reverse has been the worst gaming experience I have ever had to tolerate!

Not only that, you have the view change button on the steering wheel, and the lights and wipers on a radial menu and there's no way to swap them!

Please! You have shifer paddles right on the wheel! Why can't I shift from drive to reverse gears using those?!

Why can't I move the buttons that take me to menus off my steering wheel and into the radial menu?!

Why can't I move the wipers, lights, and even the horn, functions I need to use while I'm driving with out activating a radial menu, on to the buttons?!

This key-binding is pathetic! Please give us a more robust key binding system!
