Great in short bursts, maybe an hour, as you can have fun and make a little progress, complete a challenge, and see your experience progress. Maybe two at a push to run some Shadow Tower, or work on the Club World. But those meaty, satisfying online experiences need a heavyweight MMO to deliver them and, for all its colourful charm, Trove just isn’t it.

There’s a lot to be seen in this game, as well as a lot of rewards to loot from dungeons and bosses, and I’m still continuing the adventure in hopes of bigger and better things. As it stands now, I think Trove is a solid game for kids, as well as up and coming MMO players. It’s a game that is a wonderful upgrade from the Minecraft world, but pushes players a bit further with gaming concepts and design that most of us have experienced for a good portion of our gaming lives. I’m sure that it will keep growing as a game and hopefully, audience willing, garnish new add-ons and design that push it into a more rewarding experience that will legitimize it as a go-to MMORPG for a wider audience.

If you’re looking for depth, Trove will leave you frustrated. The combat is simple, the progression is slow and the quests are all the same. However, if you want a certain kind of fun, you can absolutely find it here. Players looking to wile away the hours fishing, crafting, building and murdering will never want for things to do. The PVP is just as accessible as the rest of the content if you have the patience, and you never have to spend a dime if you want everything the game has to offer.

Played in long sessions, Trove can quickly grow mind-numbingly dull and repetitive, and its performance issues can sometimes be a pain. But played in short sessions, it's a decently fun way to pass the time, either by building structures, battling bad guys, or experimenting with new classes.

The core problem Trove suffers from is that Minecraft doesn’t work as an MMO. Minecraft is an open world survival game that inspires its players to create huge structures and towns. It was never the gameplay that got people hooked, it was the stories about what they created. Trove limits this ability severely, leaving players with a shallow and characterless MMO that quickly becomes boring after just a few hours. Even if players were to invest money into the game, Trove still has nothing of substance to offer except cosmetics and progress fasteners. Stay away from this greedy cash cow, MMO players deserve better.

It must be dropping down to 15-20 fps or something like that all the time. This turned me off completely in a matter of minutes and I have since deleted the game from my HDD. I 'd suggest people try it out on PC. Unless developers manage to better optimise the game's frame rate, avoid the PS4 version (not sure about PS4 Pro's frame rate). At least it's free to play, so I am happy I didn't pay money for it. Full Review »

PAY TO WIN! I am going to rip the game to shreds mechanically too, but i know for alot of people that is all they needed to know.

Before anyone tries to use the "its beta" logic.. that would imply that they planned on fixing things, and they dont. For example the glitch that lets you equip any emblem weather you bought it or not has existed for quite a while on pc and hasnt been fixed as of yet. Furthermore more there hasnt been an actual patch since launch nearly a month ago, and their support...

Their support is the worst i have seen in nearly a decade! Think steam around 6-7 years ago bad, think waiting nearly 2 weeks for a response and then getting a response that is copied and pasted ABOUT AN ENTIRELY UNREALTED TOPIC, think waiting that long and at the end of the little email conversation walking away with NOTHING. In other words waiting 2 weeks to be told "were sorry you paid money for this item out of the shop, but we cant help you"! Also think about dealing with this kind of "support" (a word that is censored in-game.. along with "trion") as i explain some of the other "features" of the game.

Server stability is trash, you WILL be disconnected atleast 10 times a day, and quite often you WILL get rolled back. Sometimes 5 min sometimes an hour.. this WILL happen at the worst possible times such as after crafting 2 shadow 4 rings within 2 minutes of eachother or after opening a chest with a 50000+$ drop in it!.. and then you will contact "support".

The controls and ui were designed by an imbecile. It is easier to leave a "club" (see: clan, guild, league, fellowship) than it is to see whos online in said club! there are some skills that dont work at all (such as for the revenant and shadow hunter) and others that are completely over-powered broken (gunslinger, neon ninja). 75% of the time you cant see if your friends are actually online even if they are standing 10 feet away from you, and going through the menus to find what you are looking for in most cases is a complete pain.

The game IS infact pay to win. There are badges you can ONLY get by spending cash which means youll only ever truly max your mastery rank out by spending real money. The amount for the highest badge you ask? 1000$ literally. Whats more this is another of the trend of online games where the more you play the harder you get screwed. For example if you log in for 1 hour a day and open a few boxes you generally WILL get something of mention, play 12+ hours a day and all you will generally get is crap. The logic behind this decision? If you are only logging in occasionally they want you to be enticed to play more, that is why they have deals in the IN-GAME store that rotate hourly and arent the same for all players; they want you to check the shop (repetition works) and to see other players getting great drops in the chat window so youll say "aww i want THAT!". If however you are already going to play the game they know they have your undivided attention so there is no real need TO reward you. This is further reinforced by magic find being completely broken, i have over 1500 and have only ever got 1 radiant drop.. but i know a guy with less than 400 who has gotten 3. Its disgusting.

The community is made up largely of the same xbox (what word wont get censored here..) half-wits that you would find in COD or any of the other "pop" games. In other words its flat out pathetic. If you dont hold X on the teleporter stone other players can and will teleport to you, sit on top of dungeons so they get exp and drops while you do all the work, and follow you around doing this for hours. A true nut-rider-centric game. The chat is also filth, aside from people trying to constantly rip one another off (nevermind that there is a separate trade chat AND an in-game marketplace) the conversation often degrades into rape, incest, homophobic, racist, and just idiotic slug fests. If you can imagine some moron screaming it into a mic on COD its happening in the chat window of trove.

This game is garbage that should have stayed on pc. I would almost rather play a perfect world game (and they make me want to vomit) than this. The concept is pretty sound (considering they ripped it off of cube world directly!) but the execution is a complete failure. The fact that the support sucks so profoundly only makes it all the more clear that its not going to improve any time soon.

p.s. you cant trust reviews of people who have played for an hour OR see potential without seeing the flaws, because they obviously havent TRULY played the game.

The game's combat feels smooth but not when there's multiple enemy's, the building is way worse then minecraft.
Overall everything is mediocre from the graphics to the gameplay.
