Mar 8, 2014TowerFall: Ascension might not be complicated or feature-rich, but the instant pick-up-and-play fun of its local co-op arena battles make this the best game in the PS4’s fledgling library.
-
Mar 10, 2014You’re going to get a lot of play out of TowerFall: Ascension, which is likely going to be the best version of this deep, clever, and wildly fun game. I loved what I got, and I wanted more. If you thought local multiplayer was dead, you might want to give Ascension a try.
-
Games Master UKMay 4, 2014One of the best local multiplayer games ever made. It has huge depth, and is always utterly fantastic fun. [June 2014, p.74]
-
Mar 21, 2014Still, I'd only recommend buying it if you happen to have a second PS4 controller lying around — it's just that designed for local multiplayer. Then again, if you're looking for a game that single-handedly justifies the purchase of a second controller, Towerfall: Ascension is probably it.
-
Mar 8, 2014It’s easy to have fun with TowerFall, and there’s a lot to like on the surface, but players who put more into it will certainly get more out.
-
Apr 27, 2014Creator Matt Thorson has achieved a ludicrous standard of gameplay in Towerfall Ascension, one that seduces you instantly and jettisons all thoughts of million-poly character models and full-performance capture from your gaming consciousness.
-
Apr 18, 2014TowerFall Ascension is a game in the purest form of the word. Easy to learn, hard to master. Everyone can jump in and everyone can enjoy themselves.
-
Apr 15, 2014An impressive brawler game, one of the best for local multiplayer battles.
-
Apr 14, 2014Towerfall Ascension uses many known game formula's and molds it into a hectic and entertaining whole. It's just a shame that you're forced to play offline.
-
Apr 2, 2014An addictive, hypnotic, and severe game, that should appeal any kind of gamer and gives a whole new dimension to the idea of couch multiplayer.
-
Apr 1, 2014Like an arrow, local multiplayer cannot reach people further than the neighborhood, but that doesn't make it inefficient, particularly through close combat. Hence Towerfall Ascension proves how powerful archery can be, provided that it relies on a masterful execution and a sizeable army. With such a large choice of weapons and a clever use of terrain, the most desperate situations can be overcome, even alone. Thanks to warlord Matt Thorson - the creator of this amazing battle alchemy - here's a great reason to renew local rivalries and appreciate all kinds of human relations, friendly or not.
-
Mar 28, 2014If you’re buying it to play alone, you’re not going to get the benefit of the full experience, but if you have friends and a few controllers, you’ll be hard pushed to find a better multiplayer experience around at the moment.
-
Mar 24, 2014Contributing hugely to Towerfall’s pitch-perfect tactile experience is the game’s pixel art visual design – a look that fills your lucky peepers with a sense of wonder rarely felt since those heady SNES days.
-
Mar 21, 2014One of the best offline multiplayer games for years and yet more proof that the bow and arrow is gaming’s most entertaining weapon of choice.
-
Mar 12, 2014If you have a PlayStation 4 and some friends, you must have this game at the ready on your hard drive.
-
Mar 11, 2014TowerFall Ascension’s blend of competitiveness and customization provides you with endless ways to have an incredible time. Just remember to bring some friends along for the ride.
-
Mar 25, 2014Every second is a mad scramble for ammo, powerups, and survival that, while sadly limited to local play only, kept my group of four players glued to their controllers with its highly competitive action.
-
Apr 7, 2014About as addicting as Bomberman, Towerfall Ascension completely caught us by surprise with its retro look, it's well-implemented co-op mode and downright fantastic platforming. Get this.
-
Mar 31, 2014If you remember when "multiplayer" meant friends and a multitap, Towerfall: Ascension will fill you with glee. With its healhty dose of old-school adversarial local multiplayer, fans of games like Powerstone or Super Smash Bros should already have Towerfall: Ascension in their libraries.
-
Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaApr 27, 2014Okay in solo, but offers must-own 4-person multiplayer madness. [May 2014, p83]
-
Apr 24, 2014For those who want to play alone Towerfall Ascension is a smart, fun and challenging puzzle game that sadly won’t last too long. On the contrary it becomes a nearly magical experience together with three friends. When it comes to deep party games that are easy to pick up this is one of the best ones.
-
Apr 14, 2014Someone needs to make the arcade machine version of this.
-
Apr 11, 2014TowerFall Ascension is fascinating. It’s irritating in the beginning, a curious game after a few minutes, and an object of devotion in the time remaining.
-
Apr 10, 2014TowerFall Ascension is a great example of how far originality can carry a game that is so simple to instant classic status. There are things that could be done to drastically improve the overall package, but the sum of its parts are overwhelmingly enjoyable. Matt doesn't just make games, Matt makes great games.
-
Apr 3, 2014TowerFall harkens back to the day when you could play a game like GoldenEye 007, when the person next to you got punched in the shoulder for besting you. This is a game with plenty of laughing and pointing at the screen. TowerFall is not deep in options or features, but the frentic gameplay makes for a surprisingly fun time with your friends and family.
-
Mar 31, 2014TowerFall: Ascension is a small and shiny gem. This indie game offers lots of fun both with single player and multiplayer modes due to its fast paced gameplay and its simple but smart mechanics. If you're looking for a clever, fun and entertaining offline multiplayer experience, you can't miss this one.
-
Mar 27, 2014If you have people ready to play local multiplayer, then absolutely buy TowerFall: Ascension. If not, avoid. It's as easy as that.
-
Mar 27, 2014TowerFall: Ascension is a game that relies heavily on your social standing. The mechanics are entertaining, the presentation is charming, and the whole affair is top fun – assuming that you have some friends to play with.
-
Mar 7, 2014It’s a delightfully frantic game that rewards quick wits and strategy above mastering complex controls, and truly shines when you have three friends in arm’s reach to pit those talents against.
-
May 6, 2014It's the next indie-game with an 80's feel, which is a pity. But, that being said, Towerfall Ascension is a very addictive videogame with a good sense of complexity within. It is the ideal game to play with friends on the couch.
-
Apr 1, 2014The game focuses on the multiplayer options, up to four players at once. If you are not going to play it with someone, it's not worth buying it.
