In my honest opinion, this game is not worth the money you spend on it. From awful AI, to awful graphics, I just can't recommend this game. I am interested in cycling, especially the professional scene, however this game just doesn't feel good to play. The most enjoyment I've had playing is by creating and editing my own custom riders. Despite this, there is still a lot of work for improvement. You can only change names, ratings, and jerseys. If you want to create your own rider in the game, you have to choose a pre-existing rider for this. Even though it's annoying, it definitely the most fun you can have in this game (at least in my opinion). The game is in a scale of 1-5, meaning 5km in-game is equal to 1km in real life. I find that this generally takes away tension and excitement from the sprints and climbs especially, as well as rendering small hills effectively pointless. I can understand why this scale is used, but it would be nice if sprints and climbs could be made into 1-1 scale. Another big issue is the AI. On climbs, attacking is only useful if it's a summit finish or descent finish. You will usually just be reeled in within less than a minute depending on the riders chasing you. In my opinion, the AI can ruin the whole dynamic of bike racing. This will hopefully be improved in the 2020 edition. Pro-leader is just pro-team where you have your own rider and have to level him up. I don't like this game-mode because you can't join other teams, you make your own. Now we move into the positives of the game. The challenges add a whole new mode into the game that I find is good fun to play. There are a variety of challenges from mass sprints to cobbled pursuits, and I hope this is added upon in the next edition. I also like the world championship races they have added, such as Innsbruck, Brussels, and Cambridge-London. Pro-Team is also a reasonably interesting game-mode where you can choose your teammates and compete in races across the calendar.

In conclusion, the Tour De France game is probably the best cycling game out there where you actually play as the cyclists. I think the game needs a lot of work, both visually and game-play wise. This game can be enjoyed, but I would recommend saving your money until the biggest issues are fixed unless you are a hardcore cycling fan.

While Cyanide SA may have had the best intentions to ship a complete and fully-immersive racing experience that perfectly replicates the highs and lows of the Tour de France, it is evident that the 2019 edition needed a lot more time in the oven. The loading screens take way too long, the game constantly crashes mid-race, and the fast-forward option causes an obliteration of the in-game graphics. Of course, this was probably rushed out to try and coincide with the grand race that this title is based off, but it does ruin the overall experience. For cycling purists who just want a game to race in, this is fine, but its issues will test even those with a lot of patience.

Tour de France 2019 is probably the best in the series but it still lacks some experience and ambition to become a fantastic champion, as it is a bit disappointing technically and in terms of A.I. and novelty. Maybe next year?

An annual update just in time for the 2019 edition of the Tour De France with a few new added features. If you're a fan of the previous games, by all means go right ahead and buy this. Anyone else should steer clear even if your a fan of the sport in real life.
