Le Tour de France 2016 follows the promising way it entered last season, with a great number of races that will test your skills as team manager. Unfortunately still mediocre on the technical side.

Tour de France 2016 is still a title designed only for cycling fans. We expect an important evolution for the 2017 edition, especially in graphics and interfaces.

Year after year, Le Tour de France is a slightly better version of the same game. Unfortunately there are still many problems on the way to a satisfying simulation of the sport. In theory, the ideas of Cyanide are good, in practice they must face a not-so-good making, especially with the AI and the management of stamina. It's not broken at all and it can be fun and sometimes even exhilarating, but there is a lot to improve.

The mechanics and gameplay are well thought out, it’s easy for newcomers to get into and old fans will, probably, be more than happy with the plethora of additions and tweaks over the previous games in the series. Unfortunately, though, to me it still feels like I’m watching some guy on a bike ride.

They try every year and fail every year. Unfortunately, the latest attempt doesn't break that streak. It's boring and repetitive, with the Pro Team modus serving as the only saving grace... which just isn't enough.

I got into cycling recently and was really curious about knowing how the sport of team racing works. Anyways, about the game. Overall, I felt the graphics were actually on par with many other sports franchises. Menus are clean and modern (as well as easy to navigate) and views during the race are not distractingly bad. But you can clearly see where the graphics of the scenery is a bit of a missed opportunity since that is part of the reason why people enjoy watching the Tour on TV. Controls are great in my opinion. Every button is where I want it to be and they all perform well. Gameplay (as is actual representation of the sport) is very fun and offers a fun change in pace to traditional sports games.

    Cons:
I wish there was a create a pro mode like most other sports games. While it is a team sport, cycling makes heroes out of individuals and that is sorely missed in this game (yes, you can change a cylclist's name, but that means nothing). Make a mode where you start in short local circuits and work your way up. Gaining attributes based on how well you perform on certain point criterium in races. It'd be so easy (seemingly) to add to the game. And in the career mode you could buy bikes and upgrades and pick your gear based on the event's style (mountain, TT, or whatever). It could also take place based on age (i.e. one tour=one year of life) and try to win as many as possible or go as old as you can and still compete.

Secondly, it needs more character faces...there's literally only one face for all the riders...that is ridiculous.

There needs to be some more animations on turns with the riders leaning more.

And there needs to be some way of getting into a crash...it's dumb that you can ram full speed into another rider and it not do anything. No, it should not be easy to wreck, but it shouldn't be impossible. I find myself pointing the joystick right at other riders when in the peloton in order to break out of the group...I should have to find gaps.

Overall, a good game. Probably better than cycling deserves considering the big money it takes to make a game these days and the little number of cycling fans who play video games.
Probably not worth buying if you don't use a road bike or watch the Tour.
