Not sure what to say beyond that I feel this is a medium game with medium experiences. The gameplay feels very slow compared to similar games.

I want this game to be better but in all honesty it isnt. Even 2021 there are still bugs in this game that feel like basic stuff and the game also misses lots of quality of life improvements. The visuals are okay but even for Torchlight style it could be a bit more crispy. Loading times on PS5 were extremely fast but I recall people having issues with that on PS4 so check it out first ifI want this game to be better but in all honesty it isnt. Loading times on PS5 were extremely fast but I recall people having issues with that on PS4 so check it out first if this might be your targeted system. On playthrough I had one frame dip and no bluescreen.

The gameplay is a typical Diablo clone loop but it is worse in every part to the genre king. The skilltrees are absolutely horrible and no use friendly at all. The loot is very basic, feels like 20 items that are rotated through rarity and level progression. Level and money progression is really awkward. Every kill even on endgame grants like 1-2gold and the same amount of exp, which is honestly absolutely demotivating and weird. Money gain in general is very painful. Even without buying a lot I gained maybe 100k - on a sidenote there is a trophy for 1mil, so make your own mind on this.

The areas have certain variety, so do the monsters but the gameplay is kind of slow and boring so that the variety feels like just not enough, although the ideas are not bad in general and the bosses are well designed. After all the final fight made me laugh a bit. If you ever played Diablo you will know why. After all I think that is former genre
veterans might need some fresh ideas or consider joining a bigger studio again. The whole multiplayer-fort aspects seemed far-fetched and badly implemented. It does not make much of sense and it feels like someone wanted this to be a multiplayer service game to live longer and bring more money. I think if they concentrated on a solo game from the beginning on the game would ve been a lot better.

The game can be recommendable if you have that Diablo itch but it can be only seen as a casual filler and is only worth for a discount of at least 50-70%.

For all intents and purposes, Torchlight 3 seems like it’s an action RPG struggling to find its identity. It feels generic, repetitive and boring, and comparing it to earlier, superior Torchlight titles does it no favors. Pretty colors aren’t enough to save this one from oblivion, especially with so much quality competition out there.

Ultimately, Torchlight III is a game of simple pleasures. Simple gatherings with friends to take out enemies for greater loot. A simple, easy-going story that helps the game flow along faster. Simply going through just one more dungeon to have fun in and use the hero created to rain destruction down for better gear, and do it all over again. If something simple and fun that can be taken in small doses is what players are looking for then Torchlight III fits the bill. However, many may wish to wait for some big patches to fix the issues with multiplayer before getting too invested, or just take a favorite hero through the single-player campaign or a Dun’Djinn until the game lives up to its full potential.

Torchlight III is an RPG that leaves a lot to be desired, especially for those who know the genre very well with games like Diablo. It is obvious that its development is not 100% finished, and it lacks several months of polishing. However, Torchlight III can be fun, but you have to be able to ignore its constant problems.
