    Robomodo strikes again!
And probably with the finishing blow to the series that they so methodically and expertly been trashing and leeching off for all those years since the Neversoft was shut down.
Thanks you guys! Keep those Awsome games coming!

How Tony Hawk has fallen from grace. This game looks and feels like a re-skinned Goat Simulator and is possibly the worst game I'v seen since superman 64. Avoid.

If you thought that Ride was the death of THPS then this is definitely the nail in that coffin.

This game is nothing but digital waste. How any company would dare to ask $60 for a game with minimal content and a multitude of technical bugs, I cannot fathom. Now let me briefly go into the gameplay and presentation: As ugly as the game is, it still suffers from major framerate drops. The "seamless" online interaction is buggy and even the music suffers from hiccups. All the stages are uninspired and could literally be made in the Create-A-Park mode by anyone with 15 minutes to spare. The controls are just slightly less clunky than in Tony Hawk HD but you will probably be to annoyed with technical problems to even notice.

This game is a disgrace to the Tony Hawk franchise and you should avoid it at ALL COSTS.

This game however isn't broken... Skating physics and animations are the best yet but what puts me off is the amount of content, or the lack thereof. This is worth 20$ not 60$, the fact that the corporate sh!theads expect us to pay full price for an incomplete pacakge makes me give this game a 0/10... This is not worth the title of a sequel, I don't care what the graphics look like, they're not amazing still, the online play is garbage. You're forced to play in multiplayer lobbies, and if you choose not to it still loads you back in one the second you finish a goal. Their has always been local play in tony hawk games. Graffiti and horse. Music control. Flatland tricks are gone, caveman is gone. Anything that made multiplayer fun is gone and they made it pretty much entirely multiplayer. Things were added over the line of sequels from THPS1-THUG2 that were improvements. This game strips away everything that was an improvement on the genre over the years and then claims to be 'taking it back to the roots' without the ability to sit on a couch with a friend and have a good time together playing a video game. I was fooled and fell onto the hype wagon with zero information about the changes. I haven't played since THUG2 and just assumed that each tony hawk game included the cool mechanics from the previous ones. Robomodo and Disruptive games blew it, hopefully they save face with a content patch. All glitchy and bugginess aside, the game is lacking a ton of basic features that are expected. Robosucko or any other company simply isnt capable of making these games the way they deserve to be made. I am sure several people already have gone through the laundry list of things worng with the game, so im going to skip that. Instead im going to point out the things that bothered ME the most.

    1. They put lil waynk in the game! I mean as stupid as octodad is to have in the game this 1 move says everything about how seriously they take game development.

    2. The soundtrack is generic rubbish. Usually a hallmark of tony hawk pro skater games this time it seriously all sounds like garbage they found on soundcloud.

    3. Slamming sucks! At first i thought it was a neat mechanic, but oh no.. it DESTROYS all your muscle memory from the previous games, you essentially have to re-learn how to play and do combos (more on that in a minute). I think the mechanic itself is part of the developers lack of ability, they couldnt get the physics to work properly so they added a way to force gravity.

    4. In a move pretty common among older franchises (::ahem:: elderscrolls! ) they have made alot of mechanics retard easy for the learning impaired children of today. For example it used to be when you lost your "balance" in a manual or grind you FELL, not anymore, nope you just skate right out of it and lose your combo. Maybe its to make up for the asinine slam mechanic being so unwieldy or something but you cant chain tricks together like you used to because theres some sort of "safety" animation in there.

    5. No more custom specials. As with #4 they nolonger feel players need to perform quick combos to do special tricks, instead you hit the bumper and you ARE special (kids these days are so "special" it make me want to vomit).. everything you do will AUTOMATICALLY BE a special. I find it insulting, you also cant customize what these "special" tricks are for the record.

    6. The art style doesnt fit. Its some sort of hybrid cell shading and it really just looks like sloppy filth i have been seeing on pc for years.. why develop a game using the unreal engine if its going to look and behave like some piece of trash some indie devs made with effing unity?

    7. The menu buttons are in the wrong place.. (im inclined to call them start and select) yea, you hit the menu button on the left and it pulls up a menu pane on the right and vice versa. So the question becomes did a mentally deficient person design this game, or did they just not listen to playtesters AT ALL? While its technically a separate gripe entirely in just going to shoe-horn in here the fact that the voice chat is also OFF by default when in free skate.. yes you have to go into the options menu and turn it on.. IDIOCY!

    8. Menus. As you go through the game sometimes you will want to add or remove stats to complete objectives (more grind, speed, or manual), to do this you have to COMPLETELY leave the session you are in and go to the main menu and then edit your skater. Since everything is online this means load screens which means a pain in the ass because you then have to go back INTO the map you were just on and choose the mission to do. You also cant simply switch maps.. oh no.. you get to make that trip BACK to the main menu to choose another level.

    9. The physics are just plain sloppy. Some times you have to hit balls out of a pool for example, but there seems to be no real rhyme or reason to how far they go when hit at a certain speed. Alot of the times when trying to initiate a tight grind you end up doing a lip trick or cheesing it entirely (because of the asinine slam mechanic). Its just not FUN anymore at this point, its frustrating. Again as a fan of the franchise i am VERY used to frustration, but when the problem isnt my skills but wanker coding its a very different feeling.

    10. Generic everything, but especially skaters. Why have any more than 1 skater if they are all going to essentially have the same stats and since skins are unlockable? Theres really no reason FOR It! BUT they went through whatever they went through to put lil waynk in the game.. i hope they dont pay that assclown for anything.. if anything i hope he bankrolled the entire development. The skins you unlock are also less than impressive, be it stickers or heads, bodys or boards theres just variations on 1 thing or another. Several snow man heads, several bucket heads, several cop uniforms, several logos with different color backgrounds. THERE IS NOTHING SPECIAL HERE!

Having typed this all out i hope it helps somebody. i was going to give it a 4 when i first started typing, but having actually spit it all out its getting a 2. No really, thats all it deserves.. i didnt even cover the gimmick poewerups. Positive reviews lie!

Most of the gameplay is fast, which is good, but it also feels unnatural and downright annoying at times. The physics are still very strange and unnatural. The music is amazing, no lie there. I enjoyed every song in the soundtrack. But, it doesn't tell me what song is playing, so I have to take wild guesses as to what's playing. Create a Park is amazing. I loved it. But, create a skater was basically replacing an existing skater over, which I find very lazy and boring. Even worse, you only had preset heads and clothing. And most of the clothes is just recolors. Level design is okay but feels boring, most notably School III and Bunker. It feels old and not in a good way. Graphics are okay, but it doesn't really matter. Slam button is really annoying and special bank is not very good. You can basically never bail now. Leaned too much to the left, you just end you grind and so on. Basically, the only way to bail is if you land sideways. I feel like this game was a cheap, pandering, lazy, cash grabbing, uninspiring idea that Activison probably only did this for the money and nothing else. Robomodo fails once again to give us the game all THPS/THUG fans have been yelling at them to do for the last 8 years. And Activision got our money again. If Robomodo/Disruptive Games do indeed fix all the bugs, put a bit more effort into the game, hell, even use the same engine as THPS4/THUG, they could make the series great again, but I doubt it. If they were to release a THPS 6, it'll probably be filled be the one to destroy all THPS fans. I rather play THUG Pro (a THUG 2 PC mod) than this really terrible sequel to a used-to-be amazing franchise. What Tony Hawk should do is play THPS4 and THUG1-2 and feel the controls and then make sure that their next game feels like those games. Expand

Trust me, these low reviews are completely justified. I have played almost every tony hawk, and I don't let nostalgia get in the way of my review and score. DO NOT buy this game, and if possible, avoid it at all costs.

Hopefully one day the Skate series will come back, but unfortunately right now, this piece of crap is the only skateboarding game out. THPS5 is one of the most blatant cash-and-grabs of 2015. No doubt within 30 days Activision and Robomodo will try to save face and make some lame excuse(s) as to why the quality of the game is so terrible.
In case you're wondering, I played the game for a little more than an hour last night & early this morning, and I have to say I'm just angry with Tony and his team for even making this game. It's such a slap in the face to every kid like myself who grew up loving the original games and has been waiting for a better version to come out. The final word is this: EA skate 3 on PS3 is a way better game in every conceivable way, period.
There's one thing I can't stand about this game, aside from the downright awful graphics (and I mean awful; I can't believe this game was made in 2015 for the "New Generation" of video games), the number-one thing that gets me about THPS5 is the gimmicky feel of how the game plays; everything has this comic book -like feel to it that just ruins the experience. Whether it's the overly float-y graphics, or the ridiculous wisps of light and sparks that your skateboard leaves in its wake. Skateboard trucks do not spark when you grind against anything, so why should they in a game that's supposed to simulate skateboarding? As with just about everything in the game, it just doesn't make sense. Another thing that doesn't make sense is buying this game when there's EA's Skate 3; Skate 3 is almost 5 years old and it's simply a better game all-around, and it's more polished! Sorry Tony, I've been a fan of your's for years but this was a total "Swing and a Miss". 'Nuff said!

Online mode is horrendous. The old THPS games allowed you to join a lobby and play with people who wanted to do similar game types. Tony Hawk 5 does no such thing. You are in a random room with 20 random people who are doing there missions or free skating. When you wanna do a trick attack or other game mode you have to enter a separate lobby for that.

What I dislike the most is the lack of customization options. Robomodo completely ruined the "special" feature, it's just a button you press now. And you cannot chose which special moves you want to use. There's no create-a-skater, which IMO was half the fun. (You can change preset designs around, but they are all variations on a few generic designs)
Not a huge deal but I was sad to see that Rodney Mullen was not a part of this game. That being said I can see why he wouldn't want to attach his name or brands to this atrocity. Speaking of Rodney Mullen I was really hoping they were going to bring back flatland tricks...but again, disappointed.
I've previously enjoyed the majority of the music chosen for the series, but unfortunately THPS 5 is a big exception, the soundtrack in the game is god awful, save for about two tracks. Obviously that's a subjective issue, but it would be a nice option to be able to choice music from your own library.
As a loyal THPS fan who's been playing the series since 2000, I really wanted to like this game, but Activision and Robomodo really s*** the bed on this sequel. I haven't lost complete hope yet, maybe some patch updates could fix the frame rate issue, add a real create-a-skater, add flat land trick, the ability to use your own music and and some DLC levels from the previous games (or alternatively make some new ones with missions more relevant to skateboarding!) But I certainly won't be holding my breathe for that to happen anytime soon. If your a big THPS fan I would stay away from this, it might ruin the series for you.

Yes, gameplay is glitchy and graphics aren't great. Combos mysteriously end & bails seemingly happen out of nowhere. Ragdoll physics send your skater flying into oblivion. Missions are copy & pasted. The UI is laughable. Dozens of questionable fonts litter the screen. You're unable to change levels without quitting to the main menu. You're unable to end a mission without quitting to the main menu. You're unable to upgrade your skater without quitting to the main menu. Robomodo loves that main menu. Always-online-lobbies could have been great, but we're forced to view a loading screen between missions which delays gameplay by minutes. It's truly an awful experience.

However, those concerns are only skin deep. The real crime lies in three offenses:

    1. The levels are lazy, uncreative, small, and flat out boring. They are not fun. They look like something thrown together in Create-A-Park mode. THPS1 had more interesting levels, and that game came out 16 YEARS ago. Robomodo seems to think throwing a few quarterpipes and rails in an empty box is enough to pass for a THPS level. It's not. Warehouse & School 2 are reused yet again, this time even smaller.

    2. Online (and offline) multiplayer is a joke. Local splitscreen multiplayer has been a staple of THPS since the first game came out. Online multiplayer carried the series after the release of THPS3. Hosted lobbies, dozens of rapid game modes, observing other players, etc. Online multiplayer has worked seamlessly since 2001. I logged literally thousands of hours playing THPS Online. I met people I still talk to today on THPS Online. Entire communities were built around the game. Flash forward to THPS5: No local multiplayer. Online multiplayer now matches you up with up to 3 random players to compete in just a few modes, then throws you back into career mode. No observing other players. Trick Attack is the only mode returning from the original series. Oh, and graffiti isn't even in this game. We're playing on PS4 with high speed internet whereas THPS3 (with dial up) had a better online multiplayer experience. That's just sad.

    3. The worst part of this game is Robomodo's ignorance when it comes to THPS gameplay. In a combo-based game, the smallest of features can make or break a gameplay experience. Dozens upon dozens of changes have been made, mostly with no real reason at all. It feels like Tony Hawk vaguely explained the controls, and Robomodo just winged it through development. For example: They've removed the ability to bail while manualing or grinding. You just land. There's no risk. Special meter is awful & pointless, only lasting a few seconds. You can't choose special tricks, nor do they require special button combos. Because specials are now random tricks, you're forced to do a backflip and fall while trying to grab off of a rail. Special is now activated with L1, meaning you can't spin with L1 unless you want to trigger your special. Spinning is now limited to auto-180 degree spins, which makes it hard to perform longer/precise spins. "Slamming" is now a feature activated by holding triangle/grind. Literally everyone holds grind before grinding, but now slam forces you to the ground before getting close to the rail. Grinding is entirely too forgiving, morphing your skater several feet sideways onto the rail. Wallrides are automatic now, which seem to randomly activate when you get close to a wall. Wallrides use to be triangle (which is now slam) so now you slam to the ground when trying to wallride. Reverts no longer lose speed (Since THPS3, reverts slowed you down each time to increase difficulty). Removed the ability to ollie directly after a revert and continue your combo. Now you're forced to manual first (ollieing after reverts, before manualing, was a technique used to conserve speed during combos). Removed the ability to dropdown while grinding with R2 (technique used by advanced players frequently). You now auto-ollie out of quarterpipes. Leveling out mid-air seldom works. Wallplants are assigned to a different button and seldom work correctly. No quick turn feature (technique used by advanced players frequently). No wall push feature (technique used by advanced players frequently). No trick variations by double tapping trick buttons. No trick switches by tapping during grinds/manuals. No rotating during a manual. R2 is push / L2 is break, even though Ollie/Down have been those controls since THPS1 and work better. No ability to customize tricks. Balance meter does not perform the same as traditional THPS games. I'm literally not sure Robomodo has ever played a THPS game.

No patch can fix this game. Only a new game (with a new developer) can fix this game and series.

    RIP THPS

The Gaming Landscape has changed a lot, but this game makes me questions if it changed for the good. Pro Skater 5 is about a game Publisher that decides to rush a game before there license expires. (Dec. 2015 BTW) It is also about a Game Publisher that decides to release a game that has a Day 1 patch that is bigger than the Game itself.

The game isn't awful, but it isn't good. The gameplay works *most* of the time, and when it does it can be quite fun. The characters initially control quite sluggishly, but that is improved as you play the game and unlock stats.

That said, there are some glaring issues with the game. The character 'creation' is extremely limited, making you edit already existing skaters with new heads

The character 'creation' is extremely limited, making you edit already existing skaters with new heads and bodies, instead of making your own skater from the ground up (which has been a feature since the first games). Another huge issue with the game is the level design, which is arguably one of the most important parts of the Tony Hawk games. All of the levels are completely forgettable and feel lazily cobbled together in a few hours by someone using the in-game park creator. On top of this, the game doesn't look all too pretty either. The cel-shaded graphics kind of saved it in this regard. Without them the game would look like an early 360 game. And despite that, the game runs like **** it aims for 60fps but rarely hits it, by dropping down to lower than 30 at a lot of points, which can lead to physics-based glitches such as falling off of rails and losing your combos due to your skater inexplicably falling down. And yet another problem with the game becomes apparent, the glitches. The glitches I've experienced aren't quite as bad as the ones reported, with people reporting constant crashing and sometimes even game corruption. Luckily, the glitches I've experience lie only in gameplay, such as getting trapped inside scenery and getting thrown off my board mid-combo for no reason.

Overall, the game isn't good. It's very disappointing for a long-time Tony Hawk game fan like myself. The gameplay still holds up moderately compared to the other games, and is a slight improvement over Pro Skater HD's clunky gameplay, but these rare moments of satisfaction are far overshadowed by the mediocrity and sometimes outright awfulness of the rest of it.

Avoid Pro Skater 5 until it drops down to $20 or less.

The game could have easily kept the same controls and core game play from the originals, added new locations, new music, and highly detailed environments and been a 9. But since it failed on the key element of the game that makes it enjoyable, I give it a paltry 1. I wanted the cost of my rental back when I was finished with what I could force myself to play/

Tony Hawk is finally back after all these years. It’s been a while since the Hawk has been in top form. THPS3 and THPS4 are hard to top, everyone knows that. Of course, you also have the stellar Underground series and the great American Wasteland. Both games hit all the right notes and had all the right pieces to make a top shelf skating game. Of course, you also have the stellar Underground series and the great American Wasteland. Both games hit all the right notes and had all the right pieces to make a top shelf skating game. They had great career modes, lots of pro skaters, excellent and addicting gameplay and tons of cool levels. Never soft is no longer in the picture, but Activision is still here. They’re doing it all this time around. But the results may not be what fans of the series have come to expect.

    TH5 1

THPS5 is not what you think. It’s not the amazing, fun and beautiful game you thought you would get. When I first heard this game was getting released, I thought it would be very similar to the old games, but new, fresh and creative. We don’t get that here folks, we just don’t. It deeply saddens me to say that THPS5 is merely a thrown-together, ugly and barebones mess. I have many complaints with this game. First of all, $60? That is one of the biggest rip-offs in the history of games. It should be about $5. One of the biggest disappointments are the visuals. It looks like a bad PS3 game. The character models are a mix between realistic and cel-shaded. The environments are very bland, open and empty. It’s all just hideous. The frame rate drops often and there are several glitches. It is just poorly developed to be quite honest. The audio isn’t any better than the visuals either. There are only a few songs and they are quickly repeated, meaning you will get sick of the music very quickly. The game is full of irregularities and inconsistencies. There are camera issues, the difficulty is uneven and the gameplay itself is very dumbed down and bland. I can go on and on about this game’s flaws, but let’s get to the point. This is not true Tony Hawk Pro Skater. There are several glitches. The levels are empty and boring, not to mention the lack of NPC’s or any other form of life is completely absent. The visuals and sound design are poor. I am just very disappointed that the developers didn’t spend more time on the game. This is a very respected series in gaming and to have the name tarnished like this is immensely sad. If you are desperate to play THPS5 for yourself , give it a rent. That is about all it’s worth anyway.

After playing this I think I'm going to go apply for the game developer. Do I have experience or know what I'm doing? NO! But I'm pretty sure neither do they!

I had an impression that the developers intentionally butchered Tony Hawk’s classic formula in every way imaginable. For the last couple of years Activision has been trying hard to finish this series off and it seems it finally succeeded. [12/2015, p.58]

This Hawk has had its wings clipped to the point where it resembles an ugly-looking, flightless dodo that deserves its own extinction. [Christmas 2015, p74]

Most egregiously, this game costs $60. That’s about $50 too much. A better choice? Go crank Goldfinger’s “Superman,” fire up your old PlayStation or Dreamcast, dig up a copy of the original game, and relive the glory days the right way.
