let me start telling you this, I bought the GOG version and I have been playing this game ever since it's released, currently I have its 1.08.4 patch which is considered as the latest . I admit I have a bit old PC but I can play GTA V with high settings fine, I can play Dragon age inquisition with high settings fine but not this game? why? some says this game is so demanding but to belet me start telling you this, I bought the GOG version and I have been playing this game ever since it's released, currently I have its 1.08.4 patch which is considered as the latest . I admit I have a bit old PC but I can play GTA V with high settings fine, I can play Dragon age inquisition with high settings fine but not this game? why? some says this game is so demanding but to be honest, when a game is so demanding it means either the game is graphically awesome or badly optimized but we everyone know Witcher 3 downgraded its graphic quality just before it's released and it doesn't have a realistic look so why it's so demanding? because it's unoptimized , the game is a console port and badly optimized, and there is poorly coded Maxwell favour Gamework on top of it.

there are a lot of bugs in the game, character movement isn't that fluid like in GTA ,you feel like it's a bit robotic when moving, the same feeling has when fighting and riding a horse. water quality, terriann quality isn't that good either ,it looks like a bit cartoonish, the only pro side of this game is having good looking characters and weapons.

animations are quite bad, character movement, tree shaking when it's windy are absolutely horrific. the trees shake like thick papers when it's windy, there is no realism at all in it. the water quality is quite bad, it doesn't even look like water, but some heavy fluid. combat is repetitive and boring and dull, horse riding doesn't feel like fluid, it's same as the character movement, so robotic, if you want the best character movement then go to GTA. the story is fine, level design is fine, the world is huge and wonderful ,there are a lot of places to explore , but the game performance discourages me from playing, who wants to play a game with 30fps and low?
in towns it goes even low like 23fps, I reduced all settings lowest as possible but the situation is still same, I have seen that a lot of people defend this game, I dunno why, you need a gtx 980 to play this game with Ultra quality at 1080p@60fps but that card is so expensive, it just suggests gtx 770 as recommended means u should be able to play the game with max settings with 1080p@60fps with gtx 770 but it's quite impossible.
when you set all settings to Ultra on gtx 770 ,the fps goes to 30fsp.so basically on a recommended system you can't achieve 60fps at 1080p on Ultra mode. then why it's even recommended?
only SLI high end cards can pass the 60fps and single gtx 980 card can achieve 60fps in towns.

this game purposely reduced the performance of AMD cards recently though it's fixed I am pretty sure still it favours Nvidia Maxwell users over other users. I feel like this game is developed to push people to buy Maxwell cards so it's more like a Nvidia marketing plan. Physx can't even be turned off.

I suggest that wait for like 2-3 years until more powerful hardware shows up and bugs in this game are fixed, then go ahead and buy because this game is worth, I heard that DirectX12 patch might come so soon which means there will be a tremendous performance boost since gtx 400 cards. don't buy now and wait, so you can have the game at cheap price too.

    ***Possible spoiler (specific details withheld)***
There is a level 3 Contract to kill a Noon Wraith at a well. This is a Boss Fight (Defined as a monster with a ‘Special Health Bar’). You are told to read the entry in the bestiary to learn about the creature and you find it is venerable to certain bombs, Oils, and Spells. So, I explored the entire area going to every question mark on the game map. I didn’t use my horse but I ran so that I could harvest every single plant I encountered along the way and loot every hidden cache I came across. End result, I didn’t have the pattern to make the bomb, nor the mats to make the Oil. Add to this that this game is insanely hard even on the lowest skill level, “Just The Story.” All I had in attacking this Noon Wraith was the spell and I got killed. Over and over again, even using the lowest skill level. Add to this that you can’t run from combat, instead you walk backwards facing the monster while it is still attacking you. I finally realized that if I mashed the space bar repeatedly I could roll away, meditate/heal, and return. It took me almost 45 mins to kill this monster, all the time screaming “M****rf****r!”
    ***End Spoiler***

This pattern repeated itself for the following Boss Fights (again Boss defined as having a ‘Special Health Bar’). Boss Fights are insanely hard even on the lowest level provoking me to profane outbursts.

This makes me wonder what they think they mean by “Just the Story?”

My family complained about how much I was swearing while playing Witcher 3, and I had to agree with their assessment that the game just is not fun to play.

This is a game for hard core adrenaline junkies who want the sense of satisfaction that comes from finally winning a fight after dyeing 10 or 100 times before you finally succeed.

It this isn’t you, then stay away, you will not have any fun playing this game.

    - It's big - but this also leads to some of the cons.
    - lots of gear - but again this leads to a con

    Cons
    - Combat is clunky. Some RPG games have smooth flowing fight animations, but apart from the odd death blow, Witcher does not fell like i am playing an experienced expert fighter, but a grunt with a sword. Certainly nothing cool in a fight.
    - Combat is boring, the spells are while useful and necessary, competely dull. After a little while, you'll use pretty much only 2 spells(Fire and shield) and both are ..meehh.
-Swords - I change swords to get a magical upgrade. How the hell do I know that has happened. If I change swords, then make it noticeable I have changed. Give it a different moveset, make the sword look different. Make me excited when I change to a new sword, especially if It is one I've spent hours collecting materials to build. It's dull.
    - herbs - OMG, I know a lot of games where you can collect herbs, but this is ridiculous! This is not an MMORPG where I am going to expect to be playing it in 2 years time. It's a game with a start-mid and end, I do not wish to have to waste my life looking for stupid herbs.
    - inventory management is terrible. things clumped together in meaningless groups. Very small inventory screen with difficult to read stats/names/amounts.
    - General movement - no fluidity. In one scene you have to get into a burning building save the horses and the people and get out in a very short time frame, but trying to jump over a burning barrel takes precious seconds to do. Just one example where movement is clunky.
    - Interactions - Looting is the biggest here. when looting you have to be at specific angles to loot a body or a plant. stand on to of it, and you can't, stand next to it at the wrong angle you can't. it'sincredibly frustrating. Other examples is the burning building again. you have to interact with several doors to release the horses, but while you know you are close enough to do the interaction the engine does not recognise it. This kind of function is paramount to a game with Soooo much looting and interaction, so it should work.
    - Load times - Die and it take several minutes to load my last save, move to a new area, several minutes. Reminds me of Fallout New Vegas, where you could go away and make a drink while you wait on the loads.

While all these things are annoying, are they game breaking, maybe not, but they sure add up to me spending a lot of my time saying "Seriously!!" and not being able to play for long periods. Am I going to finish the game, yes, because the story keeps you hooked, but will i go back for a second playthrough, probably not.

Witcher 3 is very well written, and pays attention to the details it has to leave in such a medieval world. Every town has a personality, and seems lively - even the way most quests are given is realistic, and that's a huge step forward in making you enter its world.

However, small inconveniences may appear when trying to control Geralt or its horse; the controller is far from being really precise and it happens to be very annoying at times. The battle system also requires you to unlearn how it worked in some other games similar for its combat, which is another annoyance.

Having to load a previous save when dying is old fashoned game design that I thought we were past by now, at least let me retry the current fight keeping my experience points and any items I picked up in the fight I died in.
Sometimes when you dismount your horse your character will be doing the swimming animation when no where near water. This is especially annoying when getting off your horse to fight something.
Game does not auto-save nearly enough, I should not have to manually save in 2015.
Not being able to meditate while on your horse is annoying.
The character control while underwater is terrible.
Having to exit a shop menu to equip gear just to sell old gear to shop is tedious and old fashioned.
Not being able to buy-back at shops is old fashioned game design and unnecessary frustration.
Sometimes items glitch and float in the air.
Sometimes shadows glitch on and off.

The issue, however, with this game is twofold: size/scale and pacing.

If you are someone who enjoys being constantly stimulated and moving from one destructive engagement to the next, TW3 is not for you.
Likewise, if travelling over large distances does not sound appealing to you, TW3 may not be your game.

This is because The Witcher 3 is both an incredibly huge game, and an incredibly well paced game. I say well-paced here because in terms of game design the pacing in this piece of media is just phenomenal. Playing for the first time generally everything happens at the right time in terms of preparedness and intrigue, and due to the expansive setting you will never be rushed.

However this slow and methodical approach which permeates almost every part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may leave some people feeling bored, as the immediate objective is yours to decide, getting into action is not always a button click away, and the game is by and large entirely driven by the compelling narrative and excellent acting.

If you want something easy to consume and have fun with, avoid The Witcher 3.

If you want the equivalent of a good book (or series of books) in the form of interactive entertainment, then The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the game you've probably been waiting for if you haven't played it already.

This isn't just GOTY, this is Game of the Last 15 Years. The only RPGs you can't rightfully place this above are classics like Planescape, Fallout 2, and Baldur's Gate.

The people complaining about the combat system are probably used to simpler combat mechanics and crutches like auto-adjust cameras and action bars. This isn't 2005 anymore kiddies, time to improve your dexterity.

The minor issues that can be annoying are the loading times (which seem short compared to games like Bloodborne but still noticeably long, especially if you're playing on Death March difficulty and die frequently), there's some pathing issues with the auto-run feature while riding Roach, the quest paths can bug out on the map overlay, and being a horse Roach should not have the hurdling issues that he does with some basic obstacles like rocks and felled trees. Regardless of these, the game is as close to perfect as you'll ever see. This game will be the measuring stick for RPGs for years to come.

Poor static open world, you can only move between keypoints/story points, and get exp for same quests (go -> check -> kill) to open new story quests (to move between keypoints and so on). Game world not exist out of player actions, all NPC is just wooden dolls without intellect

First of all I rarely write reviews but I had to warn others about this game, I was duped because of all of the great reviews but to me this game is unplayable, I really wanted to like the game but the controls are very clunky and unresponsive and this just kills the experience for me. Also the graphics are not really that impressive. Well the game is good, lets make this point clear straight form beginning. Is it great? I think its very close to it but not quite it. One of the first things I would like to mention is how barely anyone is mentioning extremely long loading screens, up to 1 min, and don't forget that it is much longer than bloodborne, and no one bats an eye, so its quite crazy to almost no notes about that. Second the movements are quite unresponsive, especially in the water, but thankfully you don't have to stay in water if you choose not to. The horse movement is even worse, random and sudden stops, which is extremely annoying., similar to geralts stopping for a fight if you are constantly trying to run away from enemies. I'm not mentioning frame drops, and technical stuff, because it's been mentioned many times. So with all the criticisms over, I wont get too much why it is very good game, but I will let you know that even though its fictional, the reason why its good is because it;s believable, people are believable as wells as their stories, the world is believable as well. It's very maturely executed overall and that what has been missing for quite some time in gaming world. It is certainly a game that will be remembered for a long time, and I would definitely recommend even if you're not an RPG fan (like myself). Expand

Really pretty do look at, but not enough underneath the surface.
Too limited movement, no need to sleep or eat, no effect of rain etc ...
    Disappointing.

The game looks beautiful and tricks you with so much potential at first glance. But when you look beneath the surface, you find a game that plays.. well hardly plays at all, both mechanically and experientially. But when you look beneath the surface, you find a game that plays.. well hardly plays at all, both mechanically and experientially. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, heard the positive reviews, and waited until after multiple patches, before I judged. Witcher 3 has ultimately bad controls and poor combat besides the in-game card game Gwent, the gameplay is not good. Simply moving your static character (Geralt or Ciri) is a chore. He constantly feels like he is stepping over his feet or lost in the mood, never natural (and this doesn't change after hours of playing). His c button to loot constant random stuff around him is often unintuitive. And these poor controls bleed deeply into the combat- hit boxes are irrelevant, dodging is pointless, there are two button making swings and that's it, victory is determined based on your level, difficulty setting, or inventory management (the last of which I could respect if any other principals of gameplay combat were also accounted for). And I will say that all of these mechanics are much more poorly executed in Witcher 3 than in last year's Dragom Age Inquisition. To top it all off there are still glitches galore, main missions are rendered incompletable because the character can't examine the red stuff that he is supposed to be able to examine. So you're just like what's the point. This is hardly a game. If you want a medieval soap opera fantasy, just watch game of thrones on HBO. Expand

The conclusion of Geralt’s game saga couldn’t be better. The large open world, great storytelling and dozens of hours of pure fun – this game is an absolute must for every RPG fan. [Issue#253]

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
