The best story I've ever seen in a game and it rivals even Lord of the Rings for books and movies. It has amazing graphics, and continues to impress as you crank it to 1600p and ultra everything.

The most innovative and intriguing thing about the game is that decisions you make matter (without a simple good/evil bar), and often you will not know the extent of your decisions for hours or even tens of hours (none of this "so and so will remember that" from Telltale games and none of the simple and obvious good/bad choices of almost every other game ever.

It also has fantastic setting and lore, which pays lots of fan service to Witcher 2 fans (like me) but is absolutely accessible to people who never played either other game (like my wife). Finally, it is just plain ridiculously fun and never got old even after 135 hours.

Yes, it is a bit clunky to control (but only out of combat), the swimming is atrociously bad, the inventory cannot be sorted, and some other minor issues as well. But when you absolutely nail every other part of your game, it just doesn't matter.

Only flaw would be the ending left something to be desired, it wasn't bad but not very memorable either. Either way, the game is a masterpiece. Gameplay, story, character development, graphics, and sound. It excels in every department. This year has been great for gaming (personally), Bloodborne, Batman AC, and now this, but Witcher 3 has slain them all. Expand

The Witcher 3 is currently the best game from this generation so far. An absolute masterpiece. Graphics are amazing, main story and side quests are amazing, soundtrack is amazing, gameplay and customization options are great. It has very few bugs but overall with 36 different endings this game is near perfection.

Witcher 3 is the continuation of the story for the Witcher series. You do not necessarily have to have played the first and second game to understand the story in Witcher 3; however it is recommended you have. Witcher 3 is overall an excellent game and deserves many praises. High graphical fidelity (although lesser than what was displayed at E3), deep and meaningful storyline, great combat system, memorable characters and more. CD Projekt RED should pat themselves on the back for providing DLC's for free. Yes, you hear right; the DLC's we get are free and I am not talking about one or two DLC's. Thus far, they have released 14 free DLC's. CD Projekt RED sets an examine of how the gaming industry should be behaving when it comes to downloadable content.

The world is incredibly detailed and beautiful to explore - I took so many screenshots that I lost count. The human element is surprisingly realistic and they designers really nailed the savage brutal elements of a medieval society during wartime - It's kind of like being thrown into an interactive episode of Game of Thrones. Along the way you will interact with a rich tapestry of complex characters and your choices will affect the outcome of events in surprising and unexpected ways - I was blown away by this and it makes the game really rewarding.

The game play itself has a lot of depth and allows for plenty of customization as a good RPG should. The game features a dazzling array of crafting options for armor and weapons including some treasure hunts for special 'Witcher' gear; a deep alchemy component that allows you to create useful potions, bombs, and special monster decoctions; and a variety of skills and minor spells that you can select and develop as you gain experience. Part of what makes the game so fun is taking on an increasingly menacing variety of monsters to acquire the rare components needed to construct your upgrades.

The game even features a highly addictive meta-game within that will have you challenging every NPC you can and trekking all over the world to find rare additions to your collection.

My only very minor complaint is that the game is a bit easy especially on the lower difficulty levels. I am currently playing on Death March and mowing down opponents without much trouble (though I did die a lot on my first play through). The Witcher sense tracking aspect of the game could use a little refinement as it felt too linear and solving most quests mainly just involved finding enough glowing red clues until Geralt pieces things together for you. This was the only aspect of the game play that I felt to be a little lacking, but they pretty much knocked everything else out of the ballpark.

I will even go as far to say this is the best RPG I have ever played in quite a long time, cons about the game, some of the game mechanics could use a little work such is the way your character is able to move around, game mechanics could also use a little work in the way you are able to maneuver your horse. replay value on this game would definitely get a nine and a half because of how many times you can make the story end after you beat the game differently. so to sum up what I think of this game, if demons souls in fable had a baby, it would have been the Elder Scrolls, now if the Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age had a baby, it would definitely be the Witcher 3, that is how good this game ends, I highly recommend picking this game up, and enjoy. It has 4 minute fetch quests with more compelling story and interesting characters than the main story line of Skyrim.

There is a constant sense of exploration of wonder that actually manages to surprise you over and over again. Not since the days of Baldur's Gate II have I felt so consistently amazed at the places and things I encounter in an RPG.

And best of all, in the most positive sense of the expression: This is not a game for babies. There's racism, sex, cruelty, drugs, moral ambiguity, and more disturbing monsters than you've seen in any other game. You will not be coddled, your actions will have far reaching consequences -- many of them not immediately apparent, and if you walk into the wrong area and attack a the level 20 golem guarding a chest when you're at level 6, you're swiftly reduced to a blob of red paste in the forest floor.

The world design is incredible. It feels like a real world rather than a bunch of sewn-together set pieces. Not to mention the beautiful foliage. Makes Dragon Age III look like a golf course by comparison. The sound design also merits special mention. There's so much carefully crafted ambiance everywhere. Last but not least, the dynamic weather effects are beyond anything I have seen in a game to this date.

The whole game just oozes of the love CDPR put into it.

There are some minor warts, such as the controls which take a moment to get accustomed to, and the inventory interface isn't the most brilliant in the world, but they're barely worth mentioning.

12/10 - Game of the decade.

Whoever called this game "Red Dead Redemption meets Skyrim" was onto something. If you haven't played the other two Witchers, read the books, or the comics, your start in this game is going to be awkward and frustrating. This is a sequel with a complex story, a complex world, and labyrinthine mechanics, and will not make any effort to hold you by the hand and put you up to date. However,Whoever called this game "Red Dead Redemption meets Skyrim" was onto something. This is a sequel with a complex story, a complex world, and labyrinthine mechanics, and will not make any effort to hold you by the hand and put you up to date. However, once you pick up, and finish the first few quests, you'll need to say goodbye to your social life for a while.

While the gameplay is going to be important, the narrative is going to take the top spot. Everything in this game exists to push a story. The people hung in trees and the devastation of a warn-torn countryside oozes atmospheric storytelling. The conversation trees are as important as the gameplay, since something you miss, or a wrong answer, can truly change your experience of the game further ahead. Do not take lightly any conversation, as trivial as it may look. The side quests are so well done, they are meant to enhance the narrative rather than drag the play time of the game. I have a few ones to count as my favorites, but a memorable one involves a singing troll.

Everything in this game is meant to feel like a living, breathing world that you can help shape for better or worse. I think the main victory of the Witcher is telling a compelling story, in an open world game.

It's not without its problems, you can't expect a game this massive to be perfect at everything. Some will complain about the fighting system, to which I believe can be fixed by adjusting the difficulty. The menu interface can be tough to navigate. The alchemy and crafting systems are too complicated for the average Joe, and I wouldn't be surprised if most people won't bother with it. Some glitches are to be expected.

Whatever the problem would be, it can't outweigh the masterpiece. This game has raised the bar in what we can expect in narrative and open-world games. I may even dare and call it, a Zelda game for adults,

This is a mix of gta v / skyrim/ bloodborne and even a little of batman arkham series.

I found I started the game on easy because I constantly died but now I raised the level to the hardest one available and monster as extremely fun to handle, sometimes a fight will take me 20+ min to complete because you actually feel like the real witcher from the books. Constantly changing and messing around with oils, different monsters have different weaknesses.

There are tons of different potions, and decoctions, bombs and weapons and all make the game so much fun trying to figure out what to use next for your next fight. This is the first time I ever spent $80 on a game (with premium pass) and I actually don't feel ripped off.

CD Projekt Red will also be releasing 30 hours of dlc story which at first I thought they exaggerated, but after playing the witcher 3 I fully believe that they will deliver.

Get this game now. My life has been gone since the day this game came out, can't stop playing.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the most anticipated games of 2015. The game was released in May for PS4 and Xbox One. I’ve been playing it for a few months now and it has honestly been some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game. Let’s jump right in. The game was released in May for PS4 and Xbox One. I’ve been playing it for a few months now and it has honestly been some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game. Let’s jump right in. You are Geralt of Rivia, a witcher who is on an epic quest to find his daughter Ciri, who has been on the run from The Wild Hunt for years. On the way, you work with the likes of Yennefer (Geralt’s old love interest and Ciri’s mother), Triss (A possible love interest for Geralt), Dandelion, Djikstra, kings, rulers and so many more. The world of The Witcher 3 is called Temeria (or “The Continents”). It is a dark place, but it is also beautiful. You can see and feel emotions from every character you come across. Most are sad, miserable and hopeless, mainly due to the current state of the world they live in. Everyone is looking for hope in a cruel world that has been overrun with all kinds of evil monsters.

    witcher 3 1

The beauty in this dark universe is surprisingly easy to see. It could be in the breathtaking sunsets or the tone in someone’s voice. Speaking of sunsets, the visuals in this game are truly magnificent, especially considering just how large it is. It is roughly 20% larger than Skyrim‘s. Now that’s big! Upon release, there were a few hitches and bugs, but since then, patches and fixes have cured the problems, but they weren’t really a deal breaker to begin with. It is one thing for a game to look good, but it’s another thing to perform well at the same time. The Witcher 3 does not disappoint. It is super fluid and there are hardly ever any issues with frame rate or performance. Whether you are slaying a vicious beast or dashing across an open field on Roach, your trusty steed, everything flows as smooth as silk.

    witcher 3 2

The gameplay in this game is completely fun and the controls are ultra tight. The main fighting is done with a silver sword, a steel sword and various types of magic, including various “signs” with different powers. This includes Quen, Igni, Aard and more. One could be a blast of fire while another could be a telekinetic blast. But it isn’t as simple as using your weapons on just anyone or anything. Your steel sword is for humans while your silver sword is for monsters. Each type of monster and beast have specific weaknesses, which can be used in your favor with oils or signs. You can read about every creature and monster in the Beastiary via the menu. This is just scratching the surface. The world is so complex and full of discovery and things to see, do, read and discover. The massive world is at the player’s fingertips. The main story is fantastic with unbelievably good writing and voice acting. Every character you come across is unique and you never feel like you have seen them before. It makes for a very realistic adventure. Beyond the main quests, there are a seemingly endless amount of side quests available, which can be found on the map, notice boards or other random places. These aren’t just for filler. These side quests have just as much bulk and emotion as the main quests do. This is something so many other games just don’t have. It’s quality and quantity. There are also Witcher Contracts and Treasure Hunts, which are just as fun as the side quests are. All of these quests and activities are rewarding, as sometimes you receive treasures, armor, weapons or coin. I also can’t forget the many points of interest, bandit camps and monster nests. Sometimes it is even seeing a village become active again after ridding it of monsters. This is one well-crafted adventure and it shows in both the story and gameplay.

    witcher 3 4

The Witcher 3 is gorgeous, fun, entertaining and features a wonderful story. It looks and feels like a finely-tunes, handcrafted production. The plot has immense weight and every action has a consequence. A big part of the game is making decisions. You will be prompted often and your story will form from your choices. You will end up seeing only one of multiple possible endings. If you had to judge this game based on fun factor, it has to be in the top 10 of all time. If you had to judge this game based on visuals and sound, it would be in the top 10. If you asked me what my top 10 best games of all time are, The Witcher 3 would be on that list, and probably ranked pretty high. It truly and honestly is one of the best games I have ever played. After over 100 hours of play time, I can confidently say that this game is simply a masterpiece, crafted from the ultra-talented folks over at CD Projekt Red.

Despite all the excellent on offer a couple of things could stand to improve, the inventory system can be a little messy and quest items can sometime be lost in a sea of useless rubbish especially when it comes to the treasure and armour scavenger hunts.

I just finished the game after 70 hours, and I have to say my opinion of this game now is drastically different from that of the first 20 hours.

I think this game has many flaws, such as mechanics, skills and abilities design, enemy and encounter designs and level design so on. Games like Skyrim and Bloodborne have much more entertaining core gameplay.

But the Witcher 3 redefines the scope and depth of what a game's narrative can hold. Although the narrative isn't terribly interesting in the beginning, it soon expands into a vast variety of different stories that are woven together into a coherent and vigorous narrative spanning many hours. This is something we haven't seen in RPG storytelling before. I suspect this was where the bulk of the game's efforts went into, and it's the part that remains with you after the credits roll.

If RPG's before the witcher were analogous to teenage fiction with A to B straightforward storytelling, the Witcher 3 feels like a complex novel you have to struggle through, but the very act of navigating such a complex narrative is an entertaining and rewarding exercise in itself.

I think the scoring of this game as a 9.3 vs a 9.5 comes down to what weighting you give to the "game" portion vs the "role-playing" portion. With my criteria prior to playing this game, I would have given it a 9.3, because I believed that games should foremost be games. However, The Witcher 3 completely works as just a piece of interactive entertainment, with the emphasis on the participation in the broader narrative more than the moment to moment gameplay. As an experience, even with its gameplay shortcomings, I think this game deserves the distinction of one of the top 10 video"game" experiences ever.

The Good: The game is enormous, the world full of little details, tons and tons of quests, npc's.
landmarks, big cities (similar to Assassins creed...expect the world isn't empty like those crap games
I bet you can take all 21 Assassins creed games together, and it still won't have as much content as The Witcher 3.
You can easily spent hundreds of hours in this game especially on higher difficulties (and there is New Game +)
The story and characters are done really well, every quest has in-game cinematic's and are fully voiced....it makes make you feel more emerged in the world and more connected to the characters.
The graphic are amazing, it's the closest things to a believable living breathing world.
And i don't know any game that has surpassed this game graphical wise (maybe Horizon zero dawn?)

The Bad: Well not necessarily bad but i think the combat could have been done allot better, it can feel akward and buggy at times...it's a bit similar to assassins creed and Batman combat.
But it does feel satisfying to chop off heads and limbs in slowmotion.

Bugs! Well most of the game breaking bugs have been fixed by know...but like all open-world games it's never gonna be bug free! so expect to see some weird things from time to time.

Verdict: Really worth picking up, don't hesitate.

PS: If the game gets too easy at some point you can allow low level mobs to auto-scale with your level, so now every fight takes longer than 5 seconds....you can toggle this on in the options menu (took a while before i found out)

The game's world is vast and filled with places to be explored, items to be found, monsters to be slayed and people to be rescued or to do quests and errands for. Though this game has not as many dungeons as for example Skyrim, the world of The Witcher 3 does one thing particularly better; being authentic. This game's authenticity starts with architecture, goes on with the hardship of NPCs and ends with the clothing. The buildings are not like what one would expect to see in a fantasy game, their appearance is pretty close to the one I experienced from houses in very old towns of Europe (Germany, Poland, Czech). It is about the same with clothing; you will not find any badass-looking armour like the Daedric ones in Elder Scrolls games. No, they look much more simplistic and by that realistic. The Witcher 3 is a bit like experiencing a medieval world as it could have actually been only with monsters and magic. The combat is superb, excellent, the best I have ever experienced in a game. It is fast and you have to rely on your actual gaming skills, because Geralt is not going to learn any super powerful spells etc., though the leveling system is actually skill-based. Before fighting powerful monsters you might have to look up their weaknesses in order to facilitate victory. Nevertheless the combat system basically consists of well-timed dodging, parrying/ countering, striking and of course using witcher signs. After I had experienced massive lags and one game crash, The Witcher 3, with patch 1.04 installed, runs almost without any lags on PS4 now as well. It looks amazing despite the graphical downgrade, though you might encounter some blurry textures on rocks. As for me I have not encountered any major bugs, only minor ones like levitating people or weirdly flinging blood strains after killing drowners and I have been playing this game for more than 120 hours now. The Witcher 3 also contains a crafting system for amours, swords, potions, oils and other stuff. For most of them you need to find patterns in order to be able to craft them, which makes a new sword or armour a very rewarding item. Oh, what the heck am I babbling about? Just get the game if you have not already! If there is one fantasy game that deserves your money, it is The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt! My verdict for this masterpiece is a 96/100. Expand

The only thing that could use some work is definitely the UI - although it gets the job done it doesn't deserve a standing ovation. The Witcher 3 is simply an amazing game. It's as near to a perfect game as I've ever played the only flaw is that the combat can get somewhat repetitive but that is an extremely minor flaw as the many different missions and sub-stories keep it from getting as repetitive as Skyrim (also a great game but it suffers more from the repetitive flaw).

It's as near to a perfect game as I've ever played the only flaw is that the combat can get somewhat repetitive but that is an extremely minor flaw as the many different missions and sub-stories keep it from getting as repetitive as Skyrim (also a great game but it suffers more from the repetitive flaw).

Battle System: 8.5/10: It's a lot of fun and you feel like you've got solid control over your character. It can be a little button-mashy at times but for the most part not in a negative way. A very solid 3rd person battle system.

Graphics/World Design: 10/10. The world is beautiful and there are many rich regions to explore each complete with their own lore. The main story is great but the secondary tales that flesh out each region are so good you sometimes forget to continue on with the main story. Truly The Witcher 3 manages to craft a world that you want to dive head first into. The graphics are also quite good. Everything you'd expect from a PS4 game.

Soundtrack: 9.5/10. Honestly my only complaint about the soundtrack is that we don't hear the music more often. The music is good and fits the game nothing is overly epic for the battle you are having and it works to draw you more into the game.

Story: 10/10. The story and the sub-stories are great. In fact the open world sub-stores are so good that they can end up distracting you from the main story! Despite this each subplot feels like it has purpose and your decisions in how you approach these can effect the overall story. Also the ability to play both as Gareth and Ciri adds an extra touch of greatness to the story.

Side Quests/Bonus Material: 9.5/10 It's great as I've said already. The extra stories are awesome. The witcher contracts get a little repetitive but they all have individual stories so it is bearable and you still feel accomplished completing each one.

Misc: Pretty much all covered above. All else I can mention is the crafting system which is easy to use and very useful and I would give it a 9.5/10 as well.

Summery: The only bad thing about The Witcher 3 is that I didn't play it earlier. It truly is a great game and does the open world right without sacrificing story. There are few things I feel it could have done better.

    Overall score: 10/10

Many times during gameplay I just stop to admire the landscapes. Gameplay wise everything works smoothly, in fact Ive had some issues with too sensitive camera while starting the game but changed the custom controller camera set up here (fixed the sticks sensitivity to 0.80-0.85) and since then everything have been working perfect. I would recommend to do it for anyone having problems with "weird" camera in the game, should help a lot. This game never feels boring, the world is full of quests and places to discover, you will not find the dull side quests from Dragon Age. Overall this is a superb game which should keep you entertained for 100+ hrs. Great job CDP Red! 10/10 Expand

It took me 4 of 5 tries to get into this game, I just did not enjoy the combat the first few times. I think that was because of too much soulsbourne combat.

In any case, I played about 10 hours on PS4 and gave up, and I've recently rediscovered it on PC with a controller, really getting it this time. Once the combat mechanics click they really are good. Everything else is top class

You have the main quest, which is told with superbly production values thanks to excellent voice acting, nicely detailed faces, and good animations for the most part. Then you also have the side quests, which unlike many other RPGs where the side quests merely feel like filler, there's a lot more to them here - many of the side quests feel like self-contained stories with satisfying payoffs. In terms of the gameplay, you'll be exploring this massive world, collecting loot, leveling up, unlocking new abilities, and doing everything one would expect from a modern day RPG. Then there's the combat, which may seem different than you're used to at first, and may seem more challenging than some other RPGs since the combat seems to be a lot more animated than most RPGs, but once you master it - and you will - you will love it. I especially love how you can either roll away from enemy attack, block them, parry them, or my favorite, sidestep them stylishly. All in all, The Witcher 3 is a game that every PS4 owner should own. It took me awhile to get used to the multiple menu trees and seeing the slow, progressive results in combat effectiveness after slowly building skills abilities within these trees. On the graphical fidelity/performance front, frames-per-second on PS4 is a little sludgy, but I've gotten used to this in the context of the AC series and overall, if the sense of immersion/detailed "world" is there, I am willing to overlook limited performance (but that's to a point, I'll say. For instance, right now I'm having trouble overlooking the awful graphics/performance of games such as Fallout 4, though the depth of detail of stuff to explore, find, craft, do is pretty amazing). I'd say the art designers did a superb job overall, though. So many little things shine to help with immersion, such as the changing weather, time of day and getting all the little sounds of the outdoors mixed in to enhance the experience. The sound and sight of wind moving through the trees is noticed and appreciated!

As mentioned, in terms of gameplay itself, there was a learning curve that I had to trudge through, in the beginning very low levels, to get to the good stuff...to the sense of fun. In that respect, there was a degree of trust to access that all the glowing critic/user reviews were attesting to something there that I just needed to have the patience in order to dig to discover. Again, all secondary to my lack of experience with the overall slower pace associated with RPG's. Just now (and only about 12 hours into the game! so much more fun ahead :) ) the full appreciation of what the devs have done in creating W3 is emerging. A big part of that is the superb writing. The story and side stories themselves. They are strange, magical, and unique (at least to me) in a way that I find exciting. I'm not a hardcore gamer by any stretch of the imagination, but much of the "story telling" in gaming seems a little contrived/repetitive to me. W3 is an exception, in my perspective. The fantasy story is well written and helps to drive the experience forward from mission to mission. I literally have no idea what's coming next, but am beginning to expect to be pleasantly surprised and intrigued.

So, all in all, a long-winded way of saying that W3 is capturing the heart of a primarily first person shooter fan. It is a great game and deserving of being in the upper tier of anyone's top 10 list.

But here you are getting so many little stories with surprising attentions to details. The main quest is intriguing but the ending is not perfect in my opinion. It is understandable that developers didn't have so much money compare to other companies so they could not do something epic in the end but it does not make a game any worse. Also, you MUST get expansions. Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine are surpassed in some things main game. I loved stories in these expansions.

This game is incredibly intriguing, looks amazing, has terrific design of both visuals and the mechanics of the game itself as well as some of the most compelling story writing you'll ever see (every quest, EVERY, has it's own unique narrative. There are no lazy ambient quests).

The issue, however, with this game is twofold: size/scale and pacing.

If you are someone who enjoys being constantly stimulated and moving from one destructive engagement to the next, TW3 is not for you.
Likewise, if travelling over large distances does not sound appealing to you, TW3 may not be your game.

This is because The Witcher 3 is both an incredibly huge game, and an incredibly well paced game. I say well-paced here because in terms of game design the pacing in this piece of media is just phenomenal. Playing for the first time generally everything happens at the right time in terms of preparedness and intrigue, and due to the expansive setting you will never be rushed.

However this slow and methodical approach which permeates almost every part of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may leave some people feeling bored, as the immediate objective is yours to decide, getting into action is not always a button click away, and the game is by and large entirely driven by the compelling narrative and excellent acting.

If you want something easy to consume and have fun with, avoid The Witcher 3.

If you want the equivalent of a good book (or series of books) in the form of interactive entertainment, then The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the game you've probably been waiting for if you haven't played it already.

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
