This game does not deserve a 9+. The game seems to have a lot of things to do, but when you take a step back the game is about rather than quality.

    - Quests are terrible. I wish they had been more creative.
    - Story is lacking. Feels very diluted and stretched thin.
    - Characters are not very likable.
    - Combat is clunky
    - Game is buggy, as expected of Bethesda

Overrated, hyperhypyed, very bad game. Poor voice acting, witcher whispers to himself, and somehow others hear him), incoherant character movements. Everybody in the game looks like robots. Action sequences are poorly designed. No an once of proper collision between objects, characters and the surroundings. Terrible graphics. Boring storyline. To avoid.

One of the most boring games I've ever played, the combat and the pacing and the graphics are awful. but considering people like minecraft and goat simulator and games like that, no wonder they're gonna like this, people's taste in games have gone downhill.

Combat during the training exercises felt decent. Traveling around by horse was also interesting as you can hold down X while on a road to automatically travel it, all without moving the control stick. Graphics are also quite nice, everything looks great!

This doesn't really feel like a game though, it feels more like an interactive movie with little bits of combat sprinkled in. You will find yourself talking to NPCs for hours upon hours, repeating tedious and boring tasks such as, well...talking to more NPCs. Just when you think you've finished the quest and have spoken to everyone needed, another quest line will start that involves even more talking. sometimes between all the chatter, you will do a very brief battle where you fight 5 enemies or so, and then resume talking again. You get the idea.

Combat during the tutorial felt decent but that's because they don't attack at the normal pace most enemies will. Doing a light attack is slower than most of the enemies' basic attacks, causing you to flinch before your attacks land. Timing the attacks is difficult due to clunky controls and sluggish movement. Dodging feels useless as there are no invulnerability frames during it.

Text size is another issue why I couldn't enjoy this game. The text is way too small for any normal human being to read. That is unless you play with a huge flat screen TV 1 foot away from your face. So not being able to read how to do anything in the game is definitely something that ruined it. Finding items that do something, but can't tell what. Having to do quests (more than likely that involve talking) but can't read who to go to or why.

Story is the one amazing thing about this game. It does very well with telling a story. I myself don't entirely understand it as I've never played the previous Witcher games, but it's not hard to tell that it does extremely well at story telling. Playing the previous games is recommended to fully enjoy this game.

Overall I found the game to be very bland and repeatetive. If you enjoy running errands and conversing with local townsfolk, then you will enjoy this game. Combat and movement are both clunky and feel unresponsive at times. If you enjoy a good story, then pick this up.

What the game doesn’t do for you, it instructs you how to do in excruciating detail.

Role-playing traditionally makes the player contemplate and relies on intelligence more than the speed of your thumb on a gamepad. Therefore, don’t expect Baldur’s Gate 1 or 2 here. Hell, Witcher 3 is not even Dragon Age: Origins in the intellectual sense. Yet even so, Witcher 3 is not all bad. The game has its pluses (though not nearly so many as the thirty-five million dollar marketing budget and purchased awards would have you believe). The expansion pack Blood and Wine is meh whereas Hearts of Stone rises above the rest. It is a gripping story with hard choices and harder battles and a relationship that is deftly, maturely handled. I am tempted to say Hearts of Stone is worth the purchase price of the entire game, but even its excellence doesn’t validate suffering through the mindlessness of TW 3, which is 80% fluff and takes control away from the gamer at crucial stages to display yet another stupid cut-scene.

Clunky controls coupled with terrible camera angles make both combat and travelling fairly tedious, constantly stumbling into obstacles and npcs like a confused animal (even worse when trying to ride on your horse).

I can't say much about the story as after about 10 hours of play, 4 hours of that was just staring at a loading screen. Some taking up to 45 minutes to load the next area. I downloaded a game on my phone to play while it was loading and spent so much time playing it that I forgot I even had the Playstation on at one point. An hour was also spent trying to find a blacksmith to repair my silver sword (I couldn't do any damage to monsters or complete any quests without it) because the blacksmith icon doesn't appear on your map until you are physically standing in a town that has one.

All text seems to be so small that despite playing the game on a fairly large tv, I can't read anything from the sofa. This can be a bit of a chore as there are a lot of missions that require you to read diaries or look up weaknesses on monsters in your bestiary.

Some people may have had a better experience playing this game (may be better on pc) but I can't even bring myself to play for completionist sake. After so much hype I expected better, instead I spent £50 on one of the worst experiences I've ever had playing a video game. Will be up on ebay by the end of the week.

I'm honestly baffled how this game scores so high. Aside from graphics, it does nothing well. The story is slow and aside from the wild hunt itself, boring as hell. The combat is downright awful. It's slow to respond and nothing more than a button masher. You'll be sitting there spamming square most of the time andoccasionally throwing in some spells

I admit I have a bit old PC but I can play GTA V with high settings fine, I can play Dragon age inquisition with high settings fine but not this game? why? some says this game is so demanding but to belet me start telling you this, I bought the GOG version and I have been playing this game ever since it's released, currently I have its 1.08.4 patch which is considered as the latest . I admit I have a bit old PC but I can play GTA V with high settings fine, I can play Dragon age inquisition with high settings fine but not this game? why? some says this game is so demanding but to be honest, when a game is so demanding it means either the game is graphically awesome or badly optimized but we everyone know Witcher 3 downgraded its graphic quality just before it's released and it doesn't have a realistic look so why it's so demanding? because it's unoptimized , the game is a console port and badly optimized, and there is poorly coded Maxwell favour Gamework on top of it.

there are a lot of bugs in the game, character movement isn't that fluid like in GTA ,you feel like it's a bit robotic when moving, the same feeling has when fighting and riding a horse. water quality, terriann quality isn't that good either ,it looks like a bit cartoonish, the only pro side of this game is having good looking characters and weapons.

animations are quite bad, character movement, tree shaking when it's windy are absolutely horrific. the trees shake like thick papers when it's windy, there is no realism at all in it. the water quality is quite bad, it doesn't even look like water, but some heavy fluid. combat is repetitive and boring and dull, horse riding doesn't feel like fluid, it's same as the character movement, so robotic, if you want the best character movement then go to GTA. the story is fine, level design is fine, the world is huge and wonderful ,there are a lot of places to explore , but the game performance discourages me from playing, who wants to play a game with 30fps and low?
in towns it goes even low like 23fps, I reduced all settings lowest as possible but the situation is still same, I have seen that a lot of people defend this game, I dunno why, you need a gtx 980 to play this game with Ultra quality at 1080p@60fps but that card is so expensive, it just suggests gtx 770 as recommended means u should be able to play the game with max settings with 1080p@60fps with gtx 770 but it's quite impossible.
when you set all settings to Ultra on gtx 770 ,the fps goes to 30fsp.so basically on a recommended system you can't achieve 60fps at 1080p on Ultra mode. then why it's even recommended?
only SLI high end cards can pass the 60fps and single gtx 980 card can achieve 60fps in towns.

this game purposely reduced the performance of AMD cards recently though it's fixed I am pretty sure still it favours Nvidia Maxwell users over other users. I feel like this game is developed to push people to buy Maxwell cards so it's more like a Nvidia marketing plan. Physx can't even be turned off.

I suggest that wait for like 2-3 years until more powerful hardware shows up and bugs in this game are fixed, then go ahead and buy because this game is worth, I heard that DirectX12 patch might come so soon which means there will be a tremendous performance boost since gtx 400 cards. don't buy now and wait, so you can have the game at cheap price too.

    ***Possible spoiler (specific details withheld)***
There is a level 3 Contract to kill a Noon Wraith at a well. This is a Boss Fight (Defined as a monster with a ‘Special Health Bar’). You are told to read the entry in the bestiary to learn about the creature and you find it is venerable to certain bombs, Oils, and Spells. So, I explored the entire area going to every question mark on the game map. I didn’t use my horse but I ran so that I could harvest every single plant I encountered along the way and loot every hidden cache I came across. End result, I didn’t have the pattern to make the bomb, nor the mats to make the Oil. Add to this that this game is insanely hard even on the lowest skill level, “Just The Story.” All I had in attacking this Noon Wraith was the spell and I got killed. Over and over again, even using the lowest skill level. Add to this that you can’t run from combat, instead you walk backwards facing the monster while it is still attacking you. I finally realized that if I mashed the space bar repeatedly I could roll away, meditate/heal, and return. It took me almost 45 mins to kill this monster, all the time screaming “M****rf****r!”
    ***End Spoiler***

This pattern repeated itself for the following Boss Fights (again Boss defined as having a ‘Special Health Bar’). Boss Fights are insanely hard even on the lowest level provoking me to profane outbursts.

This makes me wonder what they think they mean by “Just the Story?”

My family complained about how much I was swearing while playing Witcher 3, and I had to agree with their assessment that the game just is not fun to play.

This is a game for hard core adrenaline junkies who want the sense of satisfaction that comes from finally winning a fight after dyeing 10 or 100 times before you finally succeed.

It this isn’t you, then stay away, you will not have any fun playing this game.

The Witcher 3 is lowbrow and unrefined like a blunt instrument made by someone who believes they know what they are doing but in reality is far from qualified. If it weren't enough that the games writing and characters are out of some odd fan fiction, the dialogue moves slowly and lacks choice, character control is oddly primitive, combat like an arcadey, spammy hack and slash, the skill system bloated and unnecessary and the environments are boring and samey, not invoking the slightest bit of curiosity or wonder and the much touted feature - the graphics - are technically strong, testament to the quality of the asset libraries they are from, but somehow hard to look at, suffering from poor, or perhaps no creative direction. I could perhaps forgive the game for some of these problems if had at least one redeeming quality but there are none.. even the menus are an unwieldy mess. It is a travesty and telling of the gaming community as a whole that games like the Witcher 3 receive unhindered praise with its glaring and fundamental problems unnoticed. Perhaps it has honest intetions, and I'm sure it does, but someone needs to step in and say this is note the genre defining game it is touted to be. The Witcher 3 may just take the cake for THE most overrated game of all time. Expand

Just as I would get drawn into the game, some terrible gameplay aspect would ruin immersion. Don't get why this game is so highly rated.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I rate the game a 4.5/10. This game is the worst of the Witcher series. The graphics, are outstanding, but besides that, this feels like an assassins creed game. It has been done before... The story could of been of been outstanding, but was just average. 'Whoreson Jnr' and the 'Baron's wife' were atrocious stories, and Roach (The Horse) and Crossbow, cheapened Geralt's image. Finally, what is with beards, for game heroes? Do you play as an old man? Come on, this game has its moments, but was no where near as good as the hype. Witcher 2 is much better, just not bigger! Expand

I thought the game was beautiful, but there was something about it that just didn't do it for me.
While the game has set the standard in play and beautiful background, with deep sea diving, gorgeous detail, and beautiful scenery, the storyline itself was a little off. Every one of the characters seem a little cold. Yennifer, Triss, etc. The only warmth came from Ciri and then not really.

Walking, running, riding horse is a pain. Geralt seem to go his own way at times when you dont walk in a straight line. idle controls are too sharp. No lag (which it should have had) and completely back to 1990´s style. Ugh.
Riding your horse (named Roach, short for cockroach in real life) in the wild is painful in places where there is small obstacles. Roach is pretty dumb, instead of just do a small jump over it, he decides instead to come to a complete halt or run and go nowhere because of an invisible wall. And you bump into those, small obstacles or a tiny ledge keeps you walking without passing it.

Combat was already outdated when the game was released. A very bareboned system. Hack, slash, dodge and hope for the best. Fighting groups is hopeless, they all come at you and you keep dodging until you find an opening. Devoid of choices and tactics, the combat is completely one-dimensional and dull / frustrating.

Story wise its okay. Geralt is your usual tough guy. But overall a boring guy.
Best and most interesting character is Ciri.
During your playtrough there is too many characters you bump into, but neither has any develpment or are someone you care for.
Inventory, menu are too large, clunky and messy with so much you do not need to care for.

CPR did better story wise with Cyberpunk, but the game was a mess, and this is not unique either when you favour in the bugs. They are there. plenty-full.

The TV-Show is a much better view. Much better character development and story. And you are much better off watching that than playing this mediocre game.

CD Project Red along side Sucker Punch is one of the most overrated game developers out there. They have yet to impress me with a good title that gives a complete compelling package.

Apart from the inevitable glitching the f out - as with most games this size - the story-lines are annoyingly long and leave you no freedom to leave or load a previous save. There are a lot of points in which if you proceed, you will probably fail a secondary quest you have yet to complete. You'll be pressing the skip button for upwards of 5 minutes just to get through the excruciatingly long dialogue just so you can load back to a previous save point and complete the quests you missed. Then you have to sit through the tedious story line that plays between loads and when you switch to different maps in the game - probably in place because the load times take for-fecking-ever. Then there are times where you can't follow a quest line how you would prefer because the game makes it impossible to finish a story with a character once youve gone too far. Essentially, it forces you to take your sweet time going through the story lines in the game or else risk failing quests, which to my mind is incredibly frustrating.

Overall, great game, but holy hell it is a very frustrating game. You need the patience of a saint in order to fully enjoy playing the game.

But the positive aspects of this game pretty much end here. Every other aspect has either at best being implemented much better in some game, or at worst being almost broken.

Generally, the world feels too compressed, not just content-wise but also aesthetically, in a sense that the rations feel somewhat wrong (trees and houses only being slightly taller than the main character, for example).

I also failed to see why the graphics got so much praised, as the reminded mostly of graphics of consoles of previous generations.

Gameplay feels clunky and sloppy lacking fluidity. Meelee combat is limited to a couple of moves with lengthy animations. Spells are inconvenient to cast since it is needed to access a menu mid-combat to change the single active spell available. Menu navigation also feels too primitive and simplistic and ends up being annoying especially if taken into account the vast number of options in a single menu.

The main plot is basically "find this person, to help you find this person, to help you find this person, to help you find this person, to help you find your daughter". Details of the story are not as bad as it sounds but the way it is delivered is anything but immersive. Characters are variable but some of them not deep enough, and could use a bit better voice acting.

What really makes this game not fun to play though is its lack of polish and the too important bug that make The Witcher 3 feel more like an awesome alpha version of the game, or a descent beta version of the game. The auto generated path to objective will often be wrong. While riding the worse, it possible for the horse to stop moving instantly because it encountered a non-existent obstacle. Horse also auto steers when on roads which make it extremely annoying as it conflicts with the commands given by the player. By the far the worst thing I encountered is that some sound tracks will be missing during the majority of the game. This usually are combat or spellcasting sound effects, or worse plot important sound effects during a cutscene. Around 1/3 of game voice tracks of the character were completely absent which forced me follow dialogue solely through subtitles.

In short, this is a huge game with huge potential, though execution was extremely poor. I would have preferred if this game was half the size but so big issues which are so evident even after a few hours of gameplay were resolved.

Геймплей, а именно боевка не сложная, зачастую можно просто загнать противника в угол и бить его простой атакой (он ничего не сделает). Сюжет тоже пока не особо затянул. Bad controls, flat generic overworld, immature characterizations and boring story makes this the most overrated game of all time. Well, maybe with Skyrim. Go buy something with actual emotion and value, like Xenoblade 3.

The most overrated game in history. In almost every aspect it is either just bad or worse than any RPG game in history.

the game was good, I played it many times. but the developers are categorically against Ukrainians and Ukrainian localization since their Senior Localization Project Manager is russian. #boycottcdprojektred

Fantastic game all around, beautiful story, dialogue, writing in general, the graphics are very consistent and well done. The entire world feels so realistic it is wild to think this game came out in 2015.

Created this acc just to leave comment here about the last update. Love Witcher 3, countless hours spent there.. Finished it once and now we’re going for the second round. All was going well until the LAST UPDATE. All my saves LOST, the save system doesn’t even work anymore. Every time i launch the game i have to set all my settings all over again and again. The game starts with the autosave that was made BEFORE this bs update and as i said before there is NOTHING you can do about it. Also dialogues became unplayable because of the endless blurred loading screen after every freaking phrase. COME ON CD PROJECT RED. What is this??? My experience is ruined and it’s impossible to go back to the older version on ps4 Expand

The conclusion of Geralt’s game saga couldn’t be better. The large open world, great storytelling and dozens of hours of pure fun – this game is an absolute must for every RPG fan. [Issue#253]

This truly outstanding game raises the bar to new heights that will be extremely hard to reach for BioWare, Bethesda and any other developer. [07/2015, p.38]

The Witcher 3's subject matter, its almost defiant doubling down on its treatment of women as titillating props for Geralt and the player, even as it tries to flesh out more female leads, is its most disappointing aspect. This constant presence weighs down what would otherwise be an excellent bit of closure for Geralt's video game saga — which isn't helped by the control issues that often detract from sequences meant to break up open-world monotony.
