The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Hearts of Stone

An impressive expansion that takes the best bits of Wild Hunt and adds great new ideas.

Hearts of Stone is a fantastic addition to the Witcher 3 world that feels as if it was always a part of the game. It keeps up with the quality that one would expect. It’s refreshing in dialog, hilarious at times, inventive in its quests, and even after 70 plus hours in the core story, coming back to this world was extremely easy and welcomed.

Hearts of Stone is a stirring good time and a great expansion the whole way ‘round. It doesn’t just give us a couple new missions spread out over the same areas, bringing in the same characters, and simply offering a few new pieces of equipment. This goes above and beyond, delivering an entirely new customization mechanic, excellent story missions, a boatload of surprising charm, fantastic variety in terms of objectives, activities and locations, and a new romance that’s well worth pursuing.

Hearts of Stone is the perfect example of DLC done right. There’s not a better reason to get back into The Witcher 3 again.

There’s an old saying, you can never have too much of a good thing. This is false. Hearts of Stone doesn’t offer that much new to the game, which is what the second expansion is supposedly meant to feature, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. What Hearts of Stone gives players is another reason to dive back into this world, and enjoy the stories that lie within.

Hearts of Stone is everything great about The Witcher 3, delivered in a neat little package.

If you’re looking for an example of how to create meaningful downloadable content that doesn’t feel exploitative, you’d be hard pressed to find a better example than Hearts of Stone.

If every DLC were like Hearts of Stone when it comes to offering enough content at the right price, complaints about them would probably stop. The perfect excuse for a return to the Northern Realms. Gywnbleidd is still on the Path and you will not regret coming along.

Gaming expansions are somewhat unavoidable these days, but rarely do they feel as worthwhile as The Witcher 3's Hearts Of Stone does. Its superb story is complimented by excellent characters, and there's more than enough new content to make it an essential addition to Geralt's adventures.

Hearts of Stone may not make any significant improvements to The Witcher 3's core gameplay, but it succeeds largely on the quality of its engrossing narrative.

It’s more of the same, then – but when you’re getting more of one of the year’s best games, that’s not something to complain about.

Geralt´s new adventure adds more than 10 hours of new locations and great characters to The Witcher III Wild Hunt, although its story is not relevant to the main game.

With new upgrades, new armour, new merchants, pretty much everything has a little bit of something new to it, Hearts of Stone is an add-on that you won’t be disappointed with.

Some of the best storytelling so far in the series, and some inspired set pieces, but the chance to refine the gameplay has been sadly missed.
