A great action-RPG with only a few issues that bring it down a peg or two.

If you were a fan of the original but sacrificed it for a more current platform, or just want a chance to own a title that snuck past you the last console generation, this a great chance to bolster your collection and indulge in a truly unique experience.

I find that the complexity of its systems add a nice layer of strategy that most “Diablo clones” could benefit from. More than that, though, I find the narrative to be delightful in the way it revels in the Grimm Brothers’ sense of villainy, and then sticks you right in the middle of it and left to figure out for yourself if you’re comfortable helping a monster that completely evil.

An entertaining action roleplaying game that is as dark and gritty as it is quirky.

Enjoyment will differ from person to person, but for anyone who has an appreciation for NIS and their work, you’ll more than likely find The Witch and the Hundred Knight deserving of the shelf or hard drive space.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition adds the necessary adjustments to a game that simply wasn’t what it should have been the first time around, and while the result is hardly an action RPG classic, it’s somehow become not only enjoyable, but bizarrely likeable in the process.

For those that never had a chance to experience the action and zaniness of it, this is a solid package. It’s funny, has interesting combat, and a unique fantasy storyline that feels dark, yet whimsical and fun. Just don’t expect to be blown away. If players are looking for a solid if somewhat convoluted action RPG, this just might do the trick. It’s a game done just a little bit better than the original release.

As a game it still has its ups and downs, but it is the best version so far, and a good wait to keep ourselves entertained while we wait for a real sequel.

Despite some interesting ideas The Witch and the Hundred Knight ultimately fails to engage. The plot is surprisingly dull despite letting you take a walk on the dark side and the combat soon becomes chore-like as you diligently spam square until your reach the next area.

It's just an HD remaster without new content, but the original experience still works.

If you don't mind the quirks and rough attempts at humor, then you may enjoy The Witch and the Hundred Knight.

The story is worth experiencing if you can tolerate a character who's intentionally extremely unlikable, but as an overall package, it stumbles in a fair few critical ways, and ultimately ends up as one of the weaker efforts from a largely fantastic studio.

This new release of The Witch and the Hundred Knight is just a mere porting of the PS3 version, with no discernible improvement, neither for graphics nor for gameplay. It could have been a good opportunity to revive the series, but unfortunately it is not.

For JRPG fans who missed this on the PS3 and are willing to sink hours into mastering its various systems, menus, and combat skills, it can prove to be a worthwhile battle-'em-up. For everyone else, it may be too much of a commitment – unless being bossed around by a super demanding, foul-mouthed evil witch is your cup of tea.

An unnecessary remaster without proper new reasons to justify its existence.

If you’re a huge fan of Nippon Ichi’s games, then this is the game for you. However, the same reasons that fans enjoy their games are the same reasons to avoid them if you’ve not liked their work up to this point. The story is absurd, bordering on nonsensical at times. The graphics are disappointing at best, laggy at worst. Combat has a unique multi-weapon approach, but still mostly boils down to mashing the Square button until you can occasionally use a special ability.

The Witch and The Hundred Knight Revival Edition offers a good cast of characters and a beautiful artwork, but it has a shallow combat system and lots of other issues that won't allow it to offer something more than a few hours of mediocre dungeon crawling.

When a game is interesting or powerful 40 hours can just fly by, but here I felt every slow minute drag on as I forced myself to continue with little payoff.

While an improvement over the original release, The Witch and the Hundred Knight: Revival Edition still has its problems. The weak story and annoying characters are still front and center, though the Tower of Illusion is a nice new diversion from them. If you're a hardcore Nippon Ichi fan give it a shot, but pretty much everyone else can give it a pass.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight isn’t a good game by any means. It has an impenetrable equipment system, lackluster combat with no other gameplay mechanics, and a story that only gets good if players consult an FAQ.

Needless toI bought this on a whim, seeing as it was developed by Nippon Ichi Software, the people responsible for the Disgaea franchise. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. The game plays much like Diablo, as it a top-down action RPG with a loot/reward system. The fighting mechanics can gt a bit repetitive later on, but the game's fun exploration and extra quests make it an overall enjoyable experience. The humor is especially funny, but dark. Honestly, I wonder how this didn't get an "M" rating. Within 2 hours, I heard the "F" and "S" word at least 15 times each. There are also a lot of sexual jokes and remarks. Point is, if you are not a fan of dark, crude humor, this isn't for you. I for one, found it to be really funny and overall the game is a nice hidden gem for PS4 owners. There's not much to go back to if you already played the original on PS3, unless you want to play a version without all those bothersome bugs and glitches. Aside from that, anyone looking for a niche RPG or a game with dark humor, this is for you. Full Review »

This Game is Defiantly outside of Comfort Zone of a Developer which kinda is a fresh air.

Easter Eggs References towards Final Fantasy VII and few other Games cracked me up. X)

The Story/Humor i be honest wont be for everyone. I been laughing the whole time while playing this game how did the game get "T" rating. It clearly "M" Rated at very least ;p some scenes could be almost "Adult Only" with the style of humor. Heck i can make Drinking Game out of this game and i have everyone passed out on the floor within 30mins or less of the game X)

Gameplay is fun, Basically Rogue type of a game with high risk and reward system. + "Diablo Loot" System.

Art Style - Basically Disgaea anime pictures of characters during conversations. With 3D Models on the screen at same time.

Summery: Basically If You Took Bersker's Manga Dark Twisted Evil theme with alot of swearing... put it into Disgaea Style with Diablo Loot Table + Rogue system with twists = The Witch and The Hundred Knight.

P.S. Dont let anyone under age of 16 play this game, or that gets Offended Easily. Now if you do play it make sure your volume is low /or wearing headphones or you have ur family busting down your door x)

I like it and been enjoying it, Do I recommand it? Yes.... If your Heavy Religion House Hold Than no ;p

It looks cute, the game play is simple and fun and has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard. But I was not prepared for how messed-up dark this game is! It might look like a kid's game, but it really, really isn't. Laugh-out loud funny at times and not for the easily offended! A true hidden gem. Full Review »
