Anyway, if you're are familiar with Mass Effect/The Witcher/Risen series (etc...), all 3rd person RPG of last 10 years, you won't be disappointed.

"The Technomancer" is a good/correct rpg, storyline is complex, all RPG elements are here (craft is still good, like Mars; War Logs), landscapes and armors aesthetics are really great with full of various details (very sensitive), graphics are good (day/night cycle > beautiful screenshots incoming), mood and music works with environments, social/mystical backgrounds, level design is less claustrophobic than "M:WL" (except Ophir...); all parts of the Technomancer "lore" are strong enough to kept you intrigued.
I've played on hard difficulty (69h = lvl 53), as a full technomancer (first) and full warrior branch, light armor ; good karma, heroic and spiritual experience > It was really spectacular and a real enjoyment, like a "megawatt shaolin monk", airy !!!
I'm already rerolling has a guardian (extreme) with more shades in my choices (strict military approach), it's a completely different experience !.
And again i'm not done with this rpg : curious about Rogue combat style and influence of "bad Karma" on the storyline and on my companions.

Like their previous technomancer chapter "Mars: Wars Logs", same influences are here : Mass Effect (1) or Dragon Age maybe, The Witcher (1/2) games mixed with Mad Max movies and pretty all John Carpenter's filmography. Old school and rough !

Yes, it's an AA title trying to challenge AAA titles...
It's clumsy but they almost did it (it's always a matter of time, money and human resources : at this cost, they can keep their freedom of speech).
For the record : it's a small studio (with a 2010 engine btw), and unlike Bioware/EA or CDPR (at least 200 employees on their titles), Spiders it's 20 people (maybe less) who have worked on "The Technomancer".
I think they are pretty close to their ambitions...

This game has is own charm, once you've get over rough details you are mesmerized.

Yet again, to anyone interested in this game, ignore the moronic negative reviews. I have read all of them for this game and none express a single valid point. Nor do the so called 'critic' reviews either, although the vast majority of them should always be ignored anyway, this game is a prime example of that. Below I will explain why.

This is simply one of the most, if not THE most

Nor do the so called 'critic' reviews either, although the vast majority of them should always be ignored anyway, this game is a prime example of that. Below I will explain why.

This is simply one of the most, if not THE most underrated games of all time that the so called 'critics' do not understand and are unable to accurately review. These idiots should never be trusted, they are the same people who gave a mess like GTAV 10/10, just because it was a GTA game and are too stupid and/or too well paid to have seen it's many, many flaws. This makes them unable to see past the flaws of a smaller game like The Technomancer and properly identify it's strong points.

If you are into Cyberpunk, you will like this game. There simply isn't another current gen 3rd person Cyberpunk RPG in existence so that is reason alone to try this game. It feels like a cross between Total Recall, Mass Effect and Blade Runner. The gameworld the devs have created is probably the strongest part of the game with a strong cyberpunk atmosphere running throughout and an equally strong sci-fi, Total Recall-esque in other areas.

The great world that has been created is also reflected in the excellent dialogue which again, some idiotic reviewers failed to separate from the voice acting, which is just above average. But the amount of dialogue is superb and really paints a picture of the world and its make up/various factions for the player. Both party members and main NPC's have more dialogue options than the majority of other games so I am unsure as to where the criticism of this part comes from. Think of Skyrim and Fallout 4 (both superb games) for example, where companions and NPC's have very little dialogue where you can only ask very simple things on the spot. Where as in The Technomancer you can ask quite a lot of things and receive complex, satisfying responses.

The combat, another aspect that has been unfairly criticised is in actual fact, rather enjoyable. It's the difficulty level where the problems lie. On easy difficulty the combat feels good and you can string together some really cool combos. Yes the character is a little fragile even on this difficulty but it's good once you get used to it. Party members I had also read elsewhere were useless which is not the case at all. They could and should do a little more damage but the AI is superior to say, DA Inquisition where party members seem to be constantly stuck to you.

There are a decent amount of armor/clothing available (still not enough) with the best ones, such as the Tehnomancer specific gear capturing the overall feel of the game and adding to the atmosphere with it's looks.

This brings me on to graphics which again, are absolutely nowhere near as bad as has been made out. They are 7/10 graphics for a ps4 game, just above average which you would like to be better but you can look past as there isn't another game like this out there. The environs and cities are good, as are armor textures, where as character models are below average so it balances out.

The main, real faults which anyone with a brain will identify and are separate from the nonsense pointed out elsewhere are as follows - the cities, although impressive are just a little too empty, but again look at a game considered a universal success like Skyrim where strangely, no one seemed to ever mention as a negative the fact that only about 100 people live there if we are to go by named NPC's in the game.

Personally my biggest criticisms of the game are the overall scale with the game being too short, and the areas too small and restrictive which makes them feel too linear for a game of this type. This also brings up one of the few valid criticisms mentioned by others with backtracking being quite tedious as enemies seem to respawn when you move 2 areas away when it should be timed. Again though, this has been wildly exaggerated by others.

Character customisation is very poor, limited to a selection of pre made faces and then changing the hairstyles/colours etc. The game would be so much better with more options and more of a blank canvass in terms of appearance but at least, although the game forces us into the Technomancer role, you can still play as YOUR Technomancer, akin to Mass Effect.

In the end this is a good game which could have been great with a bigger budget or even just more time to make the game bigger. A perfect example of why 'critic' reviews are not worth reading. As you can see from my points above, for every unfair criticism the game received there is a counter to why it's actually better than some of the games the same people reviewed highly. Totally worth it if you can pick it up for under £30. You will definitely enjoy it if you are into Cyberpunk and enjoy games like Mass Effect. At least a 7/10. FACT.

An enjoyable game that lacks the budget (and polish) to become a hit. It often got compared to Mass Effect with lower budget and I will mostly agree. The setting is interesting. It often got compared to Mass Effect with lower budget and I will mostly agree. The setting is interesting. Mars has been settled and the terraforming made the atmosphere breathable. However Earth has abandoned the settlers and individual fractions and companies have taken over in a struggle for domination and power without contact to earth for many years. The sunlight makes living on Mars dangerous as it becomes deadly and causes mutations. Mutated humans are used as slaves and getting a mutated child gets you sterilized. You play as Zachariah a Technomancer. Technomancers bodies produce electricity that they can use in various ways and have a secret that must be kept away from others at all costs. The story and characters are great. There are good plot twists, many schemes by different fractions and the final reveal is brilliant in way that you (positively) facepalm because it was in front of you all the time (Sherlock Holmes would have guessed it immediately;-). You have of cause multiple endings. The characters reach from O.K to really good. I like their personal quests and stories. There will be conflicts, interesting choices and romanceable companions. If you did a research you already know about the problems of the game. I enjoyed and hate the battle system at the same time. Often while rewarding it lacks precision or lets says the controls are bad. Especially at the beginning you have to use cheap tactics. When you level up and get companions there are no really hard battles. The graphics while not being awful are nothing to write home. Then there are some bugs. I could not end a quest because of it and some small glitches happened. The RPG elements are a good addition to the game. As action adventure I would decrease my rating by far. Overall this could have been a serious rival for Mass Effect with a higher budget, more polish and improvements in the combat system. Bonus tip for saving time: You can save after the final battle and adjust the difficulty. You can beat the game on all difficulties (Trophies) and see all mayor outcomes of the final decision without another playtrough. Expand

Also lets all keep in mind this IS NOT A AAA GAME, it is a B title. I believe that what they have accomplished with only a fraction of the budget of other developers is amazing, and Spider should be commended for their efforts. Let's dive in.

Performance: The game manages to keep a steady framerate. I also never encountered any game breaking bugs, major glitches, crashes, or anything of the like. But! There are issues- there are slight glitches and the game lacks polish. But with a game this size made on such a small budget, it could be wrose.

Story/acting/setting: Ok so the story is decent, and has some strong points. There are some cool ideas in there and it is fleshed out well enough. But overall the game just opens up to let you explore and RP and that is where things are great. Now the setting- is AWESOME! I love the Mars setting and the open world is too cool. It reminds me a lot of Mass Effect in that way. There is a lot to see and do here as well. The acting though, is bad. REALLY bad- I have never seen worse voice acting and that is sad. It is a huge issue with this game and had me wishing for a voiceless protagonist.
Graphics: Graphics are fair-ish. It looks more like an advanced xbox 360 game when compared to a modern game. Again though, I cannot fault them. The size of this game is awe inspiring, and with a game this large made on a budget so small- you kinda have to expect that the graphics will be sub-par
Combat: I personally like the combat enough to keep playing! It is repetitive and over used, but still fun and deep. The gameplay itself is strong though- and the RPG/loot elements are deep and well done. It is truly an RPG, not a lite RPG, not a FPS RPG, it is a true bllod RPG through and through.

So ya, there are issues here. They include poor voice acting, repetitive combat, weak graphics, a mediocre story, and an overall lack of polish. However the open world setting, the great world building, and the strong RPG elements make up for these issues and serve to deliver an enjoyable- if outdated experience.

The Technomancer is by all means a fantastic game. Difficult, but worth the early-struggle.
My first suggestion is to set the difficulty to easy, as you will find it suitably challenging. Normal is more or less ridiculous, like Bloodborne-level difficulty. Every will two-shot you.

The Technomancer has a fantastic environment, excellent character development, everything is 100% voice acted, with a great cast. The characters are interesting and likable, and the world is very expansive, while still being small enough that you can get every quest done within reasonable amounts of time.

The feel of the game is very similar to Mass Effect and KOTOR. Similar gameplay, combat, and the fact that you can talk to pretty much anybody, and they all have stories and opinions on what is going on within the world of the game. While it takes place on Mars, and far in the future, it feels very realistic. Overall, the game is extremely well done, and a load of fun. It's well worth the early challenge. By lv 14 or so, you start to get strong enough to cruise through without too much difficulty.

Cool story, great setting and atmosphere and fun game play. Considering this game was done by a small studio with a limited budget, it is fantastic. There are some minor issues but nothing that stops me enjoying it :)

This game tells the story of a young technomancer living on mars…
You eventually set out to find information on the planet earth…
This is the games overall objective
But of course there are others inhabiting mars that want this info as well..
They want access to the technomancer secrets
Being a technomancer means that you have these awesome electrical powers that the other residents on mars don’t…
You do get to customize your technomancer in the beginning as well as start to build your specific mancer based on your play style..
You can be a warrior, rogue, or guardian…
Basically you can choose quick close combat, quick and ranged combat, or guarded close combat...
All of which can be switched to mid combat just by changing your fighting stance
But you’re better off sticking to one style
I personally dumped all of my skill points into the warrior and technomancer skill tree, upgraded my electrical powers and staff attacks…
I wasn’t too big of a fan of the game during its first few hours..
The amount of choices and skill perks were far too overwhelming for me to grasp at first, leaving me to believe that maybe introducing the skill tree at the start of the game wasn’t too great of an idea...
youre practically asked to make a choice on something you have no idea about…
But as the game went on, by hour 5 I was hooked…
Leveling up felt satisfying and addicting as any good rpg should…
The story also started to get its hooks in me as I was learning about all of the characters who enhabited mars.
This game is most comparable to dragon age…
This isn’t necessarily an open world game, but an open hub game where you travel from hub to hub to complete tasks and take out enemies along your way for xp and loot…
You also have the choice to drain your fallen enemies for serum which is a currency on mars...
The only issue though is that doing this will kill that person and life is still valued on mars... and doing so will give you bad karma…
And all of this may seem like it doesn’t matter, but much like dragon age you also have companions with you..
You can bring any 2 along and change their weapon and gear, but they pay attention to every choice you make as you play the game, and if they don’t agree with your decisions they can and will leave you...
So if you do get attached to any of your companions make sure you listen to them and try to stay on their good side..
Which can be done by helping carry out their requests in side missions, or to choose the answer they feel is best during a main quest...
The best is that their kills do count towards your xp, so they never feel like they get in the way of your progress and are great to have by your side….
My biggest issues with this game is its combat and lack of overall variety…
Combat is probably the least satisfying aspect of this game…
You do have awesome moves depending on the skills you choose to unlock, but the weapons stay the same throughout just with different stats... you can upgrade your weapons through crafting, but even if you pour your skill points into crafting you still have to find the diagrams to craft a new part… and the world really isn’t engaging enough to want to go out and do this…
Because by hour 15 of 25 this game really starts to get boring as it takes your nowhere new
you’ll go to 3 different hub cities throughout the games campaign but for all 25 hours you’re going back and forth between the same 3 places….
You literally get a task, complete it, are told to return to a city to update your progress, then are told to go back to the same place to do something else, then told to comeback, then you’re told to go to a different place, complete, come back, go back to the first place comeback rinse and repeat for 25 hours…
I got so tired of walking through the same paths over and over…the scenery literally doesn’t change from hour 1 to hour 25 other than the city you return to to turn your mission progress in..
And the worst is you have to fight the exact same enemies in the exact same place over and over and over…
and the combat itself can feel super cheap and frustrating at times and is really trash…
The hit detection is straight up garbage..
Enemies don’t really have a block animation.. Your attacks just sometimes won’t do damage when you can clearly see your staff going right through them…
This poor hit detection greatly hinders any sense of satisfaction as you pull off cool moves and dodge your enemy’s attacks…
Meanwhile you don’t have this luxury…
if their weapon hits you - you’re taking damage no questions asked…
And any area can definitely have you out numbered with multiple heavies or ranged enemies which will lead to constant deaths even on the games easiest difficulty...
And if you do die in the middle of a city you have to restart from where you entered the city, and guess what?
Fight the enemies you already fought...
This can thankfully be overcome by manually saving after you complete an enemy encounter as this game only AutoSaves when you climb a ladder or open a door….
But when you come back later they will be back...
    Even if you kill them…
Honestly I think choosing to kill for the bad karma but in return not having to deal with that creature or human enemy anymore would’ve really made the choice of kill or not much more meaningful and consequential… But unfortunately, this choice doesn’t go that deep… The combat highlight is definitely the games bosses… But you don’t have to do much to defeat them other than spam attacks and dodge… Every encounter especially the final encounters all ultimately feel anti-climactic… There’s a lot to do in the technomancer… There’s just not enough variety to want to do it all… I Give the Technomancer a 6.5/10

The missions and whole game feel episodic, and the relationship which you develop between your commanders, companions and other characters become the real focus of the game alongside political shifts, with the missions serving as a great vehicle to bind all that together. It's a criminally underrated game, and personally I've found it to be the best PS4 game which I've played so far. It's definitely flawed, and there are jarring moments which highlight the gulf between this & an AAA game. But they are fairly rare, whereas the "man this is awesome" moments are a lot more common. Technomancer is the successor to the forgettable Mars: War Logs. The Technomancer is a game reminiscent of KOTOR and old school PC and console RPGs. Technomancer borrows a lot of aspects from various sci-fi action games and really makes them fit into this dystopian world. The art and aesthetic is really something I was hoping would be impressive. Hard stone symmetrical old world war structures and totalitarian and communistic symbolism resonate throughout the red planet Mars, the place the game takes place in. Politics cuts deep through the planet and its heirarchical system and general way of life as people struggle to survive the barren planet and the never ending war over water, the planets most precious resource.

In The Technomancer you take over the role of an aspiring... well Technomancer with electrical powers tasked with the overarching goal of finding a beacon to connect Mars and Earth as well as protecting certain secrets in your faction. Along the way you encounter NPCs that aid you in combat and from what I have played it works quite well when the AI doesn't go in Kamikazee for some reason, apparently at random. Your choices are measured by a meter not unlike KOTOR or Mass Effect's Good and Evil meter. Some actions you take effect this meter and your standing with Group mates you pick up in your adventures. You also get to make forking path decisions that influence one of the games 5 multiple endings and many different character interactions.

The crafting system in this game however limited, is still very present and fun and surprisingly pretty deep. There are many things to upgrade and many pieces of gear to change.

The combat is by far the best work the developer has ever created. There are 3 different stances that you can switch between the fly with. Shield/mace, knife/gun, and Staff. All 3 combat variations are just that. They are quite fun to change as the situation arises. Animations are quite smooth upon attacking and hit detection seems to be right on, if not a tad bit harsh. This by no means is an unintelligent button masher. Dodging and striking the enemy in different ways yields the best results. Some enemies are better to take out with the knife and gun for instance. I love shooting insectoid like enemies with the gun. It works and i like the effects of it hitting the bugs.

The whole game in general is far above any other title Spiders has created. Bound by Flame is a game that was published on PS4 by this developer too and it really looks like they have learned a lot about what makes their games fun. This is by no means a Mass Effect killer or a replacement of some sort. This game is a love letter to fans of games like KOTOR and Mass Effect, Destiny. Spiders really has a gem here. I wouldn't miss it because of the poor reviews. These reviewers who rate this game poorly, if they're even gamers, forgot to rate the game based on its most important quality. FUN.

Best Game ever. Way better ending than Mass Effect 3 and there is a decent amount of choice so you can create your own story. I love to kick some ass against those Aliens on Mars.

I was so let down by this game, simply put....disappointed. I hope spiders do better next time but i won't pre ordering from them again. Expand

Ok, so I made the mistake of purchasing this game based on an article stating it was very similar to Mass Effect. Not even close. Technomancer shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. While the framework of the game shows it could have been fairly good, Spiders came up short in almost every way and it's painfully apparent within the first hour of playing. Technomancer shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. While the framework of the game shows it could have been fairly good, Spiders came up short in almost every way and it's painfully apparent within the first hour of playing. Now coming to the end of the game I feel comfortable enough to write a review.

First off, the dialogue is atrocious. I mean just terrible. The voice actors are just as bad. Every conversation sounds like a nonstop run on sentence.

The combat system is an attempt to be like the Witcher, however it falls flat on it's face. Three different fighting styles and all of them devolve into mashing the attack button. I literally read an article on my laptop during a fight and still won without even dropping past half health.

Their is absolutely no variety in the enemies. A few character models that are used over and over and over and over and over. You get the idea. For a game taking place on Mars there is barely any exploration on the planet's surface. There is no fast travel from any spot. You are forced to backtrack through the entire level to move onto a new location.

You will fight the same enemies repeatedly while just trying to turn in quests. The quests are nothing more than kill group A, fetch item B, return to quest giver.

The plot itself is completely forgettable. I am about to go do the last mission and the plot has yet to come together. A random npc you met early in the story for the breadth of two small conversations is the main villain. The boss fights are non existent.

Graphics look like something that would have been first generation PS3 software. It is a shame that Spider was unable to take the time to actually utilize the PS4 to it's potential.

AI is pitiful. Be prepared to get blocked in every doorway by your companions. Watch in awe as your companions get hit by enemies and fail to attack back.

There is weapon customization but it is painfully sparse. The weapon and armor selection is decent. Crafting is almost pointless. Increasing weapon damage does nothing in terms of damage to enemies. You will continue to do the exact same amount you did prior to "upgrading" an item.

This is a bargain bin game at best. Do not be fooled into thinking this game is more than it is. Save your money and move on.

This game is like asking someone to draw the Monalisa using Microsoft paint, The result is total mess. I appreciate the effort and the game's uniqueness but its shortcomings are overwhelming.

This game is crap plain and simple. Bad controls, ugly graphics, so so slow and boring. A pity as if could have been decent. Don't waste money on this.

Mediocre story, minimal customization, very small area for the missions, you have to go a lot of times (really a lot) to the same places for both side and main quests, no expressions on the faces, boring and repetitive fights, more or less good but not great graphics, limited control of the powers (you have to swap abilities and pause the game all the time, really a game with potential,Mediocre story, minimal customization, very small area for the missions, you have to go a lot of times (really a lot) to the same places for both side and main quests, no expressions on the faces, boring and repetitive fights, more or less good but not great graphics, limited control of the powers (you have to swap abilities and pause the game all the time, really a game with potential, badly done. Meh! This game was just ok to me. I picked it up on a PSN sale for $10, I played for about 10 hrs and gave up on it. I enjoyed the combat system, the RPG elements and the setting of the game. Boring as hell, the animations are a mess, the history is confuse. The RPG components are poor: lack of weapons (3 different of every type). Don't play it is a waste of $$

I think my initial rating and opinion on this game was a bit harsh, but oh gawd that general VA. This game is a conceptually cool science fiction ARPG. Crafting and skill trees seemed easy to understand with lots of variety in both. Combat seemed initially tricky, but having two A.I. companions helps even the odds. I was focusing on a electric two handed staff wielder with lightning range attacks which are two of the four optional class builds. I felt like a dark force user lol. Which leads me to the tone of this game. A grim game world allowing for questionably moral choices much like the first game aka Mars: War Logs. Backtracking for missions and going through the same respawning trash mobs can be a grind more so late game. That late game grind almost killed the game for me, but I managed to get to the cool and worth while ending. Expand

    Quite enjoyable, but quickly forgettable.

If there had been a little more fluidity to enemy spawning rates and locations then things might have been a bit more interesting. But, no. The enemies were in the exact same spot every time, and followed the same attack pattern without fail. Which isn't much fun, but did allow for easy grinding. The skill tree looked interesting, but I

The skill tree looked interesting, but I didn't bother with it. Seemed like a lot of fuss and nonsense to be honest. Lock-picking and a good knife was all I needed, even on hard mode. Which, it turned out, wasn't.

Every character has a story. It's up to you if you want to know about their particular sad tale. Yes, they're all sad. If you do bother speaking in detail then you get 'rewarded' with a buddy mission. Which "warms your soul". Apparently.

The game looks nice, plays well, and given that it's often on sale now then you might as well play it.
