The last thing Alex Young remembers is being at home alone in her apartment... so why has she suddenly woken up in this strange mansion?

All the doors are locked by bizarre puzzles and traps, there are cameras following her every move, and she keeps thinking she sees... things... out of the corner of her eye. If she wants to escape alive, along with the other captives she discovers, she'll need to use her wits in this adventure thriller.

Inspired by the look and feel of classic horror games, The Tartarus Key serves up a mystery filled with twists and turns, and more than a few deadly surprises. Rely on brains over brawn to help Alex survive, but beware - not everyone might make it out alive.

The Tartarus Key combines thoughtful puzzles, engaging writing, and a compelling setting and melds them together inside a PS1 package. It may not create a great deal of horror, but the writing and suspense keep you moving forward.

The Tartarus Key delivers on being a PSX-era-inspired puzzler that has a great sense of atmosphere and art direction. Puzzles are inspired, tensions are high as are as the stakes, with the only flaw being in its pacing and dialogue. There are no true scares but don’t let that dissuade you from what is otherwise a well-thought-out puzzle game.

If you have a soft spot for unconventional puzzles ala Resident Evil and Silent Hill, then look no further than this charming PS4 effort.

This has much to offer aficionados of a certain era, with conundrums aplenty, multiple endings, and (unfortunately) more than its fair share of frustration. [Issue#29, p.83]
