But the choices, the character you can choose to build, the ability to adapt a persona is powerful and unique in this game. I went for a well balanced character that excelled in intelligence and perception for long gun preferences. I've managed to stay pretty balanced in my dealings with factions and moral choices. Theres so much to take advantage of in this game like stealth options and various forms of persuasion. Then subtletys like dragging your shy crewmate into social situations and quietly encouraging them to better themselves so I can be a good captain, downright outstanding. Be what you want and the game adapts, have fun! Expand

Эта игра является младшим братом Fallout New Vegas, по скольку, видно, что контента в ней поменьше, чем в Фоллаче. Но в целом, THE OUTER WORLDS от этого хуже не становится. It was looking for an RPG and Obsidian did not disappointed me, it is really a masterpiece and I invite everybody who likes RPG to give it a try.
The game is perfect for a AA budget and I'm looking forward to DLCs and the second chapter .

This game is an absolute blast, the world building, the combat, the characters, the writing, all amazing. The world reactivity is astounding, a reference a character made to one of the earlier jobs I took made the world feel alive, plus the humor in the reference was funny enough to almost make me piss myself. 9/10, if you like sci-fi rpgs, BUY THIS GAME.

There are some minor glitches, but I guess they will easily be patched soon. There are some major choices to be made, and you get a feel for how it effects the Universe. How much exactly, I have yet to see. While it feels odd giving the game a ten, ( it makes the impression it's the best thing ever), I simply can't think of anything really negative about the game as of yet.

Games great for a >AA< title. Believe me it's no AAA title like Fallout. Good for Obsidian's first title that isn't riding Fallout's coattails, and engine. This game is nothing like Fallout so idk why these Fallout ****boys are comparing it to Fallout 4, which was a trash game like 76. And did I mention this is a AA title which means it got less funding than Fallout 4.

    Here is why:

I was nervous about pre ordering this game (not that it really matters since there is literally no harm no foul for cancelling a pre order and it's only $5)... but my trepidation was from the fact that (surprisingly) not many people I knew had heard of this game in the year leading up to it, but also, I had very high expectations due to the promises of the "throwback rpg" that was supposedly bundled in a "Firefly" type universe. I mean... c'mon! What more could you ask for?

By "throwback rpg," I'm referring to the good ol' days where your decisions ACTUALLY meant something. Your freedom was real and not artificial and not just some marketing promise used to get you to buy the game. I'm talking "old school, dialogue heavy, relationship building, watch your vicarious character's traits/personalities flesh out and evolve right before your eyes based off of your decisions and actions" kind of game.... did that make sense?

So with my high expectations, I couldn't help but feel that I was setting myself up for disappointment... like so many other games that came out in recent years (*cough* Days Gone *cough*). SO MANY GAMES get our hopes up with OVER promising and UNDER-delivering.

Folks, this game delivers on all fronts. True RPG. True to it's promises of decision making/impacting dialogue... OH AND the combat. One thing I didn't hold my breath on (because of past shooting mechanics of the Fallout game) was the... shooting... mechanics. I was doubly prepared for poor shooting because I just came off of Borderlands 3, where the shooting is phenomenal! LOW AND BEHOLD....THE SHOOTING MECHANICS ARE SHOCKINGLY GREAT! Perfect? No. But they hold their own, which just adds to the already superb premise of the game play. It looks like Death Stranding is set up to be a snooze fest and a disappointment (based off of early reviews... even the good reviews state it's boring and extremely frustrating). All I gotta say is thank you "The Outer Worlds" for being the first game in a long time.... maybe ever for keeping ALL OF YOUR PROMISES... AND THEN SOME!!

The combat is really satisfying. Going into slow-mo actually has usage in this game instead of just looking cool or aim better. Going into slow-mo and shooting particular parts of the enemy has a debuff effect on them. Combined with your companions' unique abilities, there is lot of tactical gameplay here.

Speaking of companions, them and the NPCs are excellently written. They all feel real, and some of them are hilariously written.

The story is great, the impact of decisions is refreshing after what games like the recent Fallouts did to this feature. You also have a wide variety of story arches as well as customization stats and items.

The negatives (minor): I personally don't find the lore and setting of this game as interesting as Fallout, the obvious comparison being that Obsidian once made a Fallout game. However, it is refreshing to play in comparison to Fallout as it has not been hashed out half a dozen times like the former. Another thing I wish this had was a quicksave feature like Fallout. Maybe I am missing it? But it goes without saying that this is huge in an RPG style game where you can get massacred around any corner.

Having an amazing time with this game, and getting a New Vegas vibe from the gameplay style, albiet with extremely well refined mechanics. It's a breath of fresh air to have a great new first-person rpg that isn't trying to sell me anything, and that isn't buggy, glitchy, or unfinished and awaiting "patches".

If you wanted epic and action-rpg, then give it a chance, you should like this game, even if it's not something you've expected. Moreover, let's support single-player games and classic rpgs in this world of multiplayer and lootboxes.

    Lowlights:
--Combat mechanics are pretty weak. Gun play is a little clunky and enemy AI is functional but doesn't require much more then ducking in and out of cover. It's forgivable because this game leans more towards RPG then FPS.
--Small maps (compared to full on open world games) don't allow for the level of exploration I was hoping for.

Despite the weak points this game is a 10 for me and I hope Obsidian makes a full open world game in the Outer Worlds universe in the future.

Without a doubt, the game is great. Exactly what I expect from Obsidian. They made a GOOD game, and sold it with no strings attached. Something AAA "Quality" companies can't seem to get through their thick skulls anymore.

Without a doubt, the game is great. Exactly what I expect from Obsidian. They made a GOOD game, and sold it with no strings attached. Something AAA "Quality" companies can't seem to get through their thick skulls anymore.

With the story it pushes, the game could not have released at a better time. The entire game is a satire of what would happen if corporations had gone completely insane about keeping their bottom lines. Humans are corporate property, and them committing suicide results in severe repercussions. They have to rent their own grave sights. Medication requires authorization. And so forth. Though I should note for those looking for some deeper meaning... the game is not pushing a political agenda. So sorry Kotaku, Verge, and who ever else... this isn't what you're looking for.

The gameplay is great. It kept some of the Fallout New Vegas elements, but did away with a lot of the annoying bits of the combat. The over-exaggerated gunsway for example. The game is also very liberal about how you build your character. Every skill line seems to have an effect both in combat, and outside of combat. Charisma based skills can make enemies flee in terror, or convert robots to fight on your side for example.

As for the graphics? The graphics are beautiful. But they are not for everyone. Many of the people who scream about "horrible" graphics are largely confusing realism as "graphics". The game is heavily stylized, and has a sort of technology level akin to what you could see in the movie "Alien." So while sci-fi. Nothing is beyond advanced outside a few elements. The Technicolor is also not for everyone. It doesn't get too garish, but it does a fantastic job at drawing your eye to important elements.

This game is just great. It's not for everyone..it's quite dialogue heavy and exploration/free roam might not be what you're used like as in Witcher 3/Fallout 4 or any similiar open world title.

The game more or less puts you into different area's (Still quite sizeable some) where you can explore and find NPC's for quests and monsters for EXP. It's a great way to kill the time in

The game more or less puts you into different area's (Still quite sizeable some) where you can explore and find NPC's for quests and monsters for EXP. It's a great way to kill the time in between the main quest and is fun to just try and find some of the best weapons in the game that are just scattered around the world and not to be bought from vendors.

Combat is solid. Though, I will admit....not as smooth or impactful as you might like.
For one, getting hit doesn't seem to trigger any "hit reaction" just depletes your HP pool.
And shooting enemies doesn't really trigger a "hit reaction" either. Weither you shoot them with a gun, a shotgun, flamethrower or electric beam weapon. All you do is basicly bring down the enemie's HP with damage numbers untill it dies.
Not bothersom mind you...but it does make your weapon of choice feel more like a personal prefference that actually a "tactical" decision.

Mind you I have not finished the game yet. But...I'm one of those "completionists"
I like explore every nook and cranny. That said...I think this game is good for at the least 20 hours if you really just play casually. Rush the story and that number will decrease dramaticly. PLay every side quest...talk to every NPC in detail and explore every area...and that number ofcourse goes up.

The story so far has kept my attention. The whole "World Being run By Corporations" has a nice swing to it and it works in the setting. The places you visit are mostly quite distinctive and different that it keeps you feeling like you're visiting new places.
ALSO...The same planets can have multple landing points...so, this makes the game deceptively larger than you might think once you open the map.

LIke I said...it's a game that requires your attention though. Story and Dialogue are strong elements of this game..it really leans more towards the whole "Role playing" aspect of the usually generelized RPG-Genre.
That said...leveling up your character is still quite impactfull as almost all your skills directly relate to combat and some to your dialogue options. Opening up new possibilities/abbilities or quality of life perks.
This means that exploring and fighting to gain a lot of EXP has some value to it.

The armor and weapons are limited. And by that I mean, this is no borderlands 3. There's simply but a handfull of weapon types (Handguns, long guns, Heavy's, specials etc) and those all come in different MK types.
    So, Handgun MK1 = 50 damage. Handgun MK2 = 100 damage. Handgun MK3 = 150 damage. Etc.
And they don`t feel differerent and only mild variations in their appearance.
Nothing really exciting. Most damage rolls are based on your characters % mutlipliers and skills/perks.
Still, decent and interessting enough to keep on the lookout for the more rare versions of every gun.

    TL;DR

It's not for everyone. Lot of talking and listening. Combat is decent but not it's strong suit. Story is interessting and works. Game has very little issues and runs smooth. Weapons and armors are moderate but just enough to keep your switching out gear from time to time.
Highly recommend to buy @ full price to support developers making games like this. 10/10

What probably best summarizes The Outer Worlds is that, in spite of my qualms with aspects of it, I still enjoyed my time playing it. It doesn’t overstay its welcome and by the fills a void that feels wider in the wake of many larger western studios losing interest in making dedicated RPG experiences. It’s not the kind of game to stand the test of time and Obsidian has made much better and more interesting games in the past, but there is a pleasant experience to be had. For those looking for that style of single-player RPG will find a lot to like and could do a lot worse.

I can see that while I play, The Outer Worlds is everything needed and expected from a first-person RPG, one that can then be expanded on in the future, with innovative systems, original worlds, and unexpected characters - they now have a hub to fit into. The problem for players is: why play this game instead of waiting for the one that fully escapes the shadow of Fallout?
