One of the most gripping and impactful games I’ve ever played. I’m still thinking about it 6 months after I finished it. Gameplay is smooth as butter & it set a new graphical standard for any game I play in the future. Story was a little too long but held my attention the entire time. Y’all really need to let that hate go lol

Absolutely phenomenal game. I loved every second of it (though it gets very violent). Its a dark, heavy story that will make you want to keep going. Its gameplay is the best from any game, theres a 100 different ways to tackle each fight. It feels like a movie but it's way better than any movie could be.

Without spoilers, the story is genius. It doesn't give the player what you want, it challenges you and compels you to think deeper. I love how the story investigates the consequences of revenge.

    Game play is amazing!

If you like a simple story that feeds you who to love and who to hate, this isn't for you. If you are a bigot, this isn't for you.

The problem with this game is not that it is inclusive (which is more inclusive than a Netflix Original series) but that, for the simple fact of being a heterosexual white man, he deserves to die, and therefore, you have to empathize with Abbie for having. killed, since that is what he deserves since he is a heterosexual white man and with Marlene for wanting to do it. Having just finished my 8th playthrough with the new 60fps performance patch I can safely say this is, in my humble opinion, the greatest game I’ve ever played; and I’ve been doing this for 40 years. The story, the environments, the characters, everything is dripping with attention to detail. It is a luxurious package. I understand a lot of people are upset with the story. I respect that but personally I cannot wrap my head around that view. I hate all this woke rubbish more than anyone but none of this is that. Yes the protagonists are female, yes one is a lesbian, yes the other is ripped. And there’s a transboy. But everything melds effortlessly with the story and is organic and believable. It doesn’t feel like a box ticking exercise. It makes sense that someone like lev would want to rebel and break free of a traditionalist culture. It makes sense that Ellie is a lesbian. And it makes sense Joel’s past would catch up with him in the most brutal way imaginable. All told it is a wonderful, heartbreaking tale. And it plays like a dream. Expand

Good acting, but character’s actions are inconsistent with anything we have learned in zombie apocalypse media and even TLOU Part I. The idea of “trust no one and especially strangers” is thrown out the window. All new characters are forgettable and some get killed off so unceremoniously it was laughable like something akin to the Walking Dead TV show. The only new characters that were redeemable were Abby and Isaac. The latter of which is barely given any character development. Abby’s actor is great and that should not be ignored because of the sub par writing. If you take the writing away, this game is great. But when you are doing a sequel to one of the best written games of all time it’s impossible not to consider it in rating this game. I’m glad I played it without having it spoiled for me, I think it did help me appreciate some of the story moments more. I believe if you did read the spoilers it will hinder your first experience with the game for sure. Expand

If you're going to kill off Joel, you better do something big to redeem it. It's okay for there to be tragedy in a story, but make up for it. The writers decided to have Ellie go through a lot of hell just to kill all of Abbie's friends, one being her boyfriend, the other a pregnant woman? That's so gross.

"Oh, but we're writing about how no one wins when you make it about revenge." Then could you make it about something else?

The point of Abbie's gameplay is basically to get you to understand why she did what she did, which is fine; and how she is actually a "good guy" and has experienced loss. I didn't mind the gameplay, but I question the reasons for it. So... are you saying I should flip and cheer for her over Ellie? Or do you just want me to understand how complicated this is and not cheer for anyone? By the way, you succeeded - I didn't want to kill Abbie anymore! I didn't really want to kill her in the first place, I just went along with it because what choice do I have?

Basically, no one wins. The fans obviously don't win. Ellie sees two people whom she's close to die, goes through MORE hell and loses two fingers for nothing, and we don't see a welcoming committee when she returns. Abbie loses all her friends and she can't go back to her old life anymore. I honestly felt sorry for her. If anything, I was glad (I mean, if you can call it glad at this point) Ellie didn't kill her just out of pity.

The gameplay was the best thing about it. It felt nostalgic. The survival aspects that made the first game great are still there. Fighting the monsters and bad guys was cool. I'd do it again for just for the fun of it if the story didn't suck.

The Last of US is a cautionary tale of what would you give up to save 1 person.
In this case, the world is infected. The only person you love has to die to produce
a vaccine to cure the world. While the 1st game is a tale of love, the sequel is the
    payment that is required.

Joel has sacrificed the world to spend more time with his makeshift daughter Ellie.
The lie that saved Ellie is the same lie that cost Joel his life. Abby is the
daughter of the doctor who was killed by Joel. Now Abby is fatherless and a payment
    is needed.

Right from the start of the game. The story constantly asks the question; Is it all
worth it? From the 1st part of the game, it constantly poses "What if it doesn't
work?" What if the sacrifice goes in vain? I believe that if Joel had time to say
goodbye to Ellie. Ellie would have refused the operation. Which is why Marlene
    rushed the procedure.

Joel didn't get the chance to confess his love. That was the one thing he couldn't
say but found a way to express it through travel and bond. That is why the game at
the end does not give you a choice to not kill the doctor and at the time, my self,
have even said "I would have killed him too for Ellie."

I have always said "What's the point of a cure if the world is broken? What good
would that do? I would rather save Ellie." I've reasoned with my self to save her.
Now, I'm seeing my own reflection right back. My own agreed decision with others
and how ugly it is. The infection only got worse...

It is very clear that Ellie did not feel the same way about Joel when revealed what
Joel had done. It was only later on after "squandered" years of Ellie not talking to
Joel that it was too late. She loved him as a father figure. She needed time to realize
she had been saved out of love instead of the her fantasy of being the savior of the world.

Ellie was not given the chance to forgive Joel which sets her off on her journey for
blood but every step of the way she is 1 or 2 minutes behind. I was also expecting
Abby to be somewhat of a monster. Instead, she was surviving like Joel. She was looking
after kids. As Joel, she also developed a mother figure with Lev, a young boy similar in
age from Ellie the 1st time around.

Abby and Ellie are two sides of the same coin. Abby is a Joel. Strong, older and looking
for love. I have no doubt that Ellie and Abby in another world that we call normal, would
have been friends. The proof at the end when Abby is done fighting and simply just wants
to save Lev at the cross. To be honest, I was expecting a boss fight. Instead I got a
pity fight. No, not Abby, Ellie. Even at Abby's weakest, she still gave Ellie a fight and
    almost won.

Ellie realizing that her win would only be in vain. Me in tears, seeing what shed had become.
I only wanted to save her, was this better? Was this worth it? At what cost? Ellie returns
home only to find out that she has lost everything if not, everyone. Ellie has become the
worst of Joel. Is she even Ellie anymore to me?
Looking back, I never questioned if killing the doctor was ever wrong. I don't think ever regretted it either. Now, I understand why Abby and her gang hated him. He killed him and screwed the world. I think back to what Marlene said right before the surgery "And what if this was Abby? -If this was your daughter, what would you do?". The person I was rooting for was a monster all along... The story forces us to walk with ghosts. We see only their love and perception. This game has managed to enraged most people who have played it and I hope they all come around to what I've realized. The unfortunate consequences of every decision. I understand why it's called Part II and not The Last of Us 2. This is not a continuation of the miss adventures of Ellie and Joel. It's another world. In this world, Ellie exists and she is not untouchable. If only we all could have let her be special; she would have lived longer in name. A fallen savior, left alone with no purpose; was our choice at the end. This game, like it's prequal before, is a master piece. It doesn't hold your hand and expect you to expect what everyone wanted. Instead, it asks us. What have we've all done? The Last of Us Part II Gets my 2nd ever 10 out of 10. A brilliant story, game play, design, and amazing cast of characters. This game is a must play for those who even are remotely interested. When asked if a sequel would be made on The Last of Us. Neil Druckmann - "Only if the fans really want it." Thank you for reading my review. I hope you all have a safe journey.

This game is proof that high production values and attention to detail don’t matter if the story is rubbish. There was a fundamental misunderstanding by the developers to understand what made the first last of us game so successful and beloved by fans, as well as a complete failure to understand why people play video games in the first place. I don’t know about anyone else, but I play video games to be entertained. In a way, playing is an escape from my daily life, or something that I can do that is fun that helps me relax. I think that this is the case with most people. I can’t see any entertainment value in a game as brutal and bleak and depressing as the last of us 2. I don’t want to feel depressed and angry when I want to unwind by playing a game. I understand that some games want to elicit some emotion from you to bring you closer to the story and make it more immersive, but they went way overboard on this one. Naughty Dog will turn around and say that it’s groundbreaking storytelling, but that’s a load of BS.

I understand that the development team was trying to go in a different direction and capture different emotions from the user than they did with the first installment. This direction was a complete and utter failure. All I ever felt while playing this game was disgust and depression. It’s so dark and bleak, and I did not find it entertaining at all. I’ve only played it once. By comparison, I have played the original last of us at least a dozen times.

I guess the biggest thing that bothers me about this is not the fact that they made a very polarizing, bleak, and depressing game that angered a massive portion of their fan base; it’s that they pretended like they didn’t do anything wrong and that the game that they created was made of pure gold sprinkled with Atlantis dust. The developers came off as very arrogant and elitist.

Then Ellie ends up not even getting her revenge at the end and the make you play as Abby and you can't kill yourself. Is pretty rough. This game has the intention to delivery a story where it failed. It gave us graphics and gameplay. The horror aspects were great, but a game that was made and advertised for story based elements then fail to deliver has no right to be Game of the Year. They should have done a game where you play as just Abby first before her dad died really build the character development and have this be a 3rd game in the series. The gameplay is good but it's nothing I haven't seen already. The graphics and atmosphere is where this game shines. I disagree with the critics on this heavily. Expand

Right out the bat, they kill off a main character whom we've know and grew to love over the past 7 years. Brutally murdered in front of Ellie the game sets out to be a revenge story. As the player progresses through the story, thoughts and opinions change. The three days in Seattle are thrilling, horrifying, and emotional. Just as Ellie is making her rounds on the people who killed Joel, the player feels a satisfaction. But I saw this monster Ellie was becoming, and so did she. After killing Abby's close friends and former lover, the game resets and you play as Abby. It was an interesting way to approach the villain, as the player creates bonds with Abby and all of her friends you know Ellie will kill later on. Just when I thought it was over, it went on a bit longer. Although I can see why some may not like the ending, I was satisfied. The games main theme for me was forgiveness. Ellie struggles with this not only for Abby but also with Joel. Going through a lot of pain, Ellie changed as a person and changed for the better.

Gameplay was outstanding. The amount of times I'd be in shock over the brutality of the gameplay was common. Enemies would cry out for their friends after seeing their head blown off. Even killing a dog had an emotional impact. The level design and world it takes place in were beautiful. Lots of exploration to do and many interesting things to witness. Many ways to approach enemies gave a sense of strategy and depth to the gameplay.

Overall, one of the best games on the PlayStation

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People either love or hate this game and I can kind of understand why. I loved this game for so many reasons. I love that this game is dark and harsh. People expect games to always be happy and end well. This game changes that cliche with the early and very brutal death of Joel. They throw you into the rest of the game really feeling and understanding Ellie's pain. They make you hate Abby and everything she's associated with. Right up until they flip the narrative completely. I have never played a game that challenged me to forgive the person you most hated. Naughty Dog and their team challenge you to try and see another perspective from another persons side of the story. Ellie and Abby are very much similar people and have gone through very similar experiences leading up to and during the game. They take the narrative right up to the climax of where you hate Abby the most and then flip the switch to develop an understanding for her motives. The switch and reset back to day one is brilliant. They then run through Abby as a character and as she starts out quite rough and dead set on revenge (much like Ellie was) they build her character very well and ends up risking her as well as her friend's lives in order to save the enemy. She is very well developed and the game challenges you to forgive her, which is not easy. I love the way certain elements from Ellie's first three days tie very well into Abby's three days. I came into the aquarium on the ending of Abby's road to find a dead dog lying on the floor only to realize that I as Ellie had unknowingly killed Alice just a few hours ago. Life is hard , especially if you're living in a dystopian apocalypse, and it doesn't always work out the way you planned it to. Death is unexpected and you never know when it's coming or who it's coming for. I think that the people who don't enjoy this game are either too immature to understand the true message Naughty Dog is trying to convey or they just haven't had to experience life as a hardship, and that's okay. Honestly if you don't like or enjoy this game I can completely understand why. For me this game is a rare and promising step in mature video game future. A lot of people say this is lazy writing and I highly disagree. I think the writing was absolutely brilliant and extremely brave and done incredibly well. The first game was much more light hearted but still delved into some dark topics, and the second game was very emotionally brutal and taxing, this game grew up with the audience that loved the first game so much. The ending of the game had me absolutely bawling my eyes out and I probably won't mentally recover from this game for months. It is without a doubt one of the best games I've ever played and is tied with RDR2 on my list of top game story's. Expand

Also, good job on the Rat King (the new type of zombie - cannot spoil this bit), I literally freaked out loud while fighting one, scary as hell.
Uncharted introduced me to Naughty Dog, and let me tell you, when I played the Drake saga, his legacy, his final adventure, I teared up. It still stands as the best story based Games ever. My point is really simple to interpret, Naughty Dog has always been about the story, I never cared about the graphics or the upgrades. Now if someone asked me if Last of Us 2 was worth their time, honestly, I would say, play it, but don't get emotionally attached. Kill the zombies, skip the cutscenes (if that option is available, god please). The story wasn't what I expected it to be and I was utterly disappointed with a certain choice that Naughty Dog made. When you sacrifice a hero, You do it honorably, you send him off like a badass (not just bash him with clubs and trigger the audience).
When I play a game, I wanna be happy, I want to be emotionally connected to the characters. With this game, I just feel empty. I have been a fan of Naughty Dog since Uncharted and Crash and I always will be. I didn't like the game story-wise, but it was still a good game, not a masterpiece like these so called "game journalists" preach. You want my honest opinion, play it once. The game's replayability, to me, is nil due to my issues with the story.
I hope Naughty Dog really understands fans like me, cuz we are not saying it to make them feel bad, we just want another good game like Last of Us 1 and Uncharted. They experimented, that's good, move on now.
PS : People who believe this game deserved GOTY, are just lying to themselves. Animal crossings literally blew everyone away and deserved GOTY, no hate Naughty Dog, but they literally deserved it.

Нельзя передать никакими словами те чувства, которые испытываешь при знакомстве с The Last of Us: Part 2.

It seems you really believe that meaning of life is dating a woman and when you date a woman then all your problems go away and you become completely different person lol. You serious? You really think that when someone dates with woman then he somehow starts to get more about lesbian relationships in video games? It doesn't even make sense. Like where's the connection between these two things? You are also assuming that only men hate this game and that's not true at all. Women hate this game equally and even real Lesbians hate this game, because of how much negativity this one game has brought to them. They would like to live their normal lives, but games like last of us part II are doing everything to make people dislike them. Also i can't believe you come on with this stereotypical "oh you must be too ugly to date someone", pure irony considering that Abby is one of the ugliest women in video game history. Also, acting like dating some woman must be goal of your life is just pathetic honestly. I have never had any issues with women and i'm in relationship right now, but there were years when i just wanted to be alone and just feel free, hang out, date different people etc. Some people even enjoy to be alone. So i'm obviously not caring about your statement, i'm just pointing out pure hypocrisy, because i know personally people (both men and women) who as of right now in their life, could care less about dating someone. They have way bigger goals in their life. They don't even have time for stuff like that. So it's just hilarious to me that you make so big deal out of dating a woman and how this must be somehow connected to hating this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all if you seriously have a problem with the LGBTQ+ content of this game or think you are oppressed to believe in a special agenda I recommend psychotherapy for you or dating a girl – oh wait, you might be too ugly for that.

Now to the actual game: Graphics are breathtaking. I personally liked the overall mechanics – still many didn't.

Still, the story is a boring "Kill Bill" copy and not even executed well. The first 15h of the game feel like a tutorial being too long. Playing Ally first feels just wrong but after some time her relationship to Lev is one of the few good points were similar emotions come up to the time when Joel and Ellie started to connect. But that's about all actually.
The characters are flat, not very funny (I especially liked the way Ellie was a "big mouth" in the first part – all gone now) and have changed significantly – especially Ellie. There are only traces of the "old Ellie" of pt. 1 in her character left.

It's a shame to see where the story has come. A bad story would have made an average game. The game is below average because it's first 13 h could be shrunk down to 3 – that would have been more fun than this torture we've been asked to play. Sad.

The first half of the game sees you playing as Ellie. All the moments you play as Ellie are fantastic, 10/10. You get set up with a great set of characters, some new some old. The pacing is perfect. It's intense, scary, and fun. That paired with the incredible visuals and gameplay makes for the greatest gaming experience ever. About 11 hours in you switch characters and start playing as the main enemy of the game, Abby. This character change is something that Naughty Dog should've mentioned before the game was released. From here the game falls quickly in quality. After being left on a cliffhanger with Ellie you're forced to play the next 7 hours as this character Abby. Not only is she a one-dimensional character, but the rest of the supporting characters in this section are also incredibly boring. The whole time you really just cant stop thinking about Ellie and the rest of the characters from the first half. While playing as Abby, you go back to the start of the game and play through the events from the enemy's point of view. In between, Naughty Dog tries to make you understand and like Abby's character more by adding unnecessary subplots of her saving useless characters and mixing in a bunch of playable cutscenes showing an extremely boring and cringe-worthy love story between her and another character. This makes the second half very tedious, and it almost feels like a chore to complete. Don't get me wrong, Abby's backstory is extremely important to the overall story, and ties in perfectly to the first game, but she's better off as a non-playable villain, not the main character for half of the most anticipated game in years. Overall, The Last of Us Part 2 is not a bad game and is worth playing through once, but it will come as a disappointment to die hard fans of the series. Expand

What can I say that hasn't already been said about TLOU2?

I'll begin my review with a positive statement: I LOVED The Last of Us (Part 1). Everything about that game resonated with me on every tangible level. It was a tour de force. It was Naughty Dog's magnum opus. It was everyone's Game of the Year for 2013. I played the game on PS3 and then again on PS4 - twice in fact (my first playthrough, then a New Game Plus playthrough). What more needs to be said? I really, REALLY LOVED The Last of Us. Everything - from the characters, to the story, to the gameplay - and when I reached the ending, I felt something that no other game had quite made me feel before. In every sense of the word, The Last of Us is an exceptionally excellent masterpiece. And that is why it pains me to talk about The Last of Us Part 2.

After all the hype, the information spiels and red herrings, The Last of Us Part 2 is the second biggest let-down of 2020 (the biggest let-down of 2020 being Cyberpunk 2077). I knew fully well that the story would encompass the theme of 'Hate' to contrast the original game's theme of 'Love' - I thought that it would be interesting and might pay off in some way - but in truth, I never could have predicted how epically disappointing it would be.

I don't know what happened, but Naughty Dog took the theme of 'hate' and ran with it into 'uncharted' (pun intended) territory to a degree that made TLOU2's narrative grossly unlikeable and managed to alienate their fans. If anything, Naughty Dog took things WAY TOO FAR.

It was in the first 3 hours that Naughty Dog did the UNTHINKABLE IN A DISAPPOINTINGLY BAD WAY. I won't say what, but I was left feeling shocked, mortified, and simply insulted by such a blatantly BAD narrative decision that spits in the eyes of fans of the original TLOU and adds insult to injury in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. It was after this moment that I simply lost the will to continue playing TLOU2, but I somehow managed - even though I deeply regretted every moment of it.

I can't talk about Joel (hint, hint), but I can talk about Ellie, and in all honesty I don't like how her character has changed since the first game. At the end of TLOU (and even at the beginning of TLOU2) Ellie is still relatively bright, despite her experiences. Right off the bat at the start of TLOU2, Ellie is UNLIKEABLE in every way - even going as far as to distance herself and not talk to Joel, not to mention being downright depressing. After THAT moment she just gets worse to the point where I didn't even recognise her at all.

Another issue is how TLOU2 ham-fistedly integrated political and social statements about LGBTQ aspects into it's narrative - so much so that I felt I was playing less of a videogame and more of a manifesto (to clarify I completely respect all LGBTQ rights and ideals). My point is is that the game could've integrated these aspects better and with more subtlety - instead the game chose to jump on the band wagon of woke culture by making these narrative elements OBVIOUS, even to the detriment of an already appalling story.

Another major negative is how the writers (Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross) handled the themes of 'hate' and 'grief'. Ellie is so hateful, even to the point where she doesn't think about the consequences of actions - a fact that Abby, the game's secondary protagonist and primary antagonist, is also guilty of. Throughout the story, things happen that SHOULDN'T happen. In actuality TLOU2's story is SO hateful, it turns the whole game into a TOXIC EXPERIENCE (do not mistake this with emotional catharsis).

I don't know where it all went so wrong (I actually think I just quoted one of the characters from the game), but Druckmann's nihilism got the better of him - (Halley) Gross' mentioning of the fact that she tapped into her personal experiences with PTSD while writing the story didn't help matters much either.

In terms of gameplay, TLOU2 moves things forward slightly. Yes, I'll praise the graphics and the animations, but all of that doesn't matter when the main story driving everything forward is so toxic and unlikeable (it actually makes playing the game a chore to see how horribly the plot moves forward). In actuality, TLOU2's gameplay feels more like an obligation instead of something lovingly and professionally crafted (unlike Naughty Dog's previous efforts). Gunplay feels sluggish, imprecise, and simply, not very fun, turning most firefights into frustrating ordeals. I remember aiming at a thug who was barely 5 metres from me and even with the reticule trained squarely and accurately on his head, I still managed to miss him somehow(!). Another nuisance is that Ellie can be stunned or easily knocked over which just further compounds my issues with TLOU2.

I don't know how TLOU2 won GOTY 2020 last year. It simply is a BAD GAME and a HORRIBLE SEQUEL that does things that no-one asked for. The only comparison I can think of is the recent Star Wars trilogy.

I kind of knew what I had to expect, but thought I might give it a try anyways since I really loved Part I because of its great storytelling and gameplay. But the thing that caught me the most was how the story and the journey were told, like nothing needs to be rush, the game sets its own pace, and with a extraordinary devolopment of characters. This game besides all of this, has an incredible gameplay, with new wonderful additions, that builds new ways to approach each scenario from a different form. The stealth in this game is superb. The Story teachs so many lessons about life and it touched me so much, empathy is all. It is a game that elevate the art of making games, by making a bold story, and showing something different about the usual black and white characters and story. The fact that wether are villains or heroes, or who is or not, it is up to the player. It humanizes the characters like no other game has ever done it. A touching game. An unforgettable game. A game that it is marked in the history of videogames. A Masterpiece. Thank you, Naughty Dog. And thanks to; all the devs, Neil, Ashley, Haley, Shannon, Laura and ma man Troy for building the game that it will be with me for the rest of my life. I will never forget, thank you. Expand

It is a good game. I can understand why people get frustrated with where the plot went to, etc., but to say that the game is terrible is just unfair. There are no reasons not to play the sequel.

So I just played it after a year of its release because I was so busy last year &now I was free also there was a good discount on it for days of play or something & I thought it's the right time to buy & play it & I really managed to keep nothing spoiled of the game for me all this time altho it was really hard for me like I knew something was gonna happen to Joel so I was so hyped to play it even now because man I loved the first part like I played it when I was 13 on ps3 then again remastered on ps4 & now I'm 21 so it's better be best experience to remember my childhood & even tho the rating was so bad by the very most of the players & everyone was **** about it & I was like they're hating it because it has gay couples & man that was not the problem because when I finished the game I was never feeling more disgusted about a game like this before honestly the gameplay was so far the best experience that's why im giving the game 4, hear my side of view because I really didn't have any problems with anyone being gay nor Abby having big guns even the death of Joel wasn't the real problem to me because I learnt last year that i can lose anyone at anytime & I shouldn't judge the way that someone died was it surprising or not because I lost my aunt & my uncle 2 different causes & my uncle was like a father to me anyways talked too much i was saying Joel was like a father to me in video games world so I cried my **** when he died & I was really mad & going to kill whoever killed Abby but I knew that there will be a cost even if Ellie died for it I'd be ok if we killed Abby but to get to play as Abby man that was so **** funny like seriously if she could now kill herself to save the humanity I wouldn't sympathize for her like really 10 hours?? What a waste of graphics & gameplay I really was playing myself out just to know the end I wasn't even fighting enemies like I did with Ellie that was really a waste i really wanna know what they were thinking when they made it they could just sums it up with a cutscene about why Abby killed Joel even they can show us she's nice or whatever they were trying to do like I don't really understand the point of showing her nice? Like plz what? I thought the death of Joel would be worth a great ending but that we didn't get & I know that they were trying to show us that revenge is making Ellie doing some bad **** & I don't really care because in their world everyone is killing everyone to survive like what do u want me to expect? Sue Abby? Expand

This game needs to be played by those who can understand how the real world works but not by those who always want a good ending.
If you want such games, go play Disney games, leave this game to adults.
You can't understand the game if you don't know what empathy is...

The first game was very nice, atmospheric, and believable. One of the best intro for a game in existence.

Don't get me wrong, the game is still fun, combat is exactly the same as before. But yeah... the ugliness (both inside and outside) really tanks the whole experience. Game of The Year my áss.

The dramatic violence adds to the emotions of the game. The things you go throw as Ellie in the game adds to the way she griefs and the way she is mixed up in her emotions. The game makes daring choices on how the story is told. And that's why some people hate the game. But most of those people haven't played it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Disappointed by how the writers treated the two titular characters would be an understatement. I especially did not like playing as Abby, a character I had no motivations to like for obvious reasons, especially towards the end when you play her to "defeat" Ellie. During this scene, I was like WTF? I about just rage quit the game during the quick time event where it tells you to basically choke out Ellie during this scene. So, basically I played as Abby for 12+hrs not caring two **** about her or her motivations and had to deal with a bad revenge story on top of it. Gameplay was fine, obviously graphics were great. That alone doesn't make a game what it is. I'm sorry for Ellie and Joel.

Update: After having some time to marinate and self reflect on my thoughts I've raised my score. Do I like the story? No. Do I respect the game developers? Yes. Am I devastated by the direction they went? Yes. I raised my the score due to the impressive rope physics haha. Now, will I happily play this game again? Probably not. There was a lot of impressive set pieces in the game, but the story killed it for me. So, final update. Thanks.

Final Update: Year later - I have had a chance to play the game again. I've settled down some on the director's choice/approach. I definitely see the game as a technical achievement and I can see the amount of time put into the game. The game is difficult to replay given the outcome of events. In our own pandemic, I felt closer to the story this time around and for that, there was some kind of solace or acceptance of the inevitable this time around. I hope Part 3 comes so we can find out what happens to Ellie, not so much Abby.

Just extremely weak story, awful characters and boring world make up for one of the weakest games of 2020. Thankfully this series will be forgotten by 2023-2024 when GTA VI comes out.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
