    Too many things that are just wrong. Forcing to play as the antagonist that is not likeable for so long is really frustrating, no matter how much naughty dog tries to force abby on the player.... no. Forcing the player to fight ellie as abby made me want to give this game a 0.

    One of the best games I've ever played. Do not listen to prejudiced people who rated the game zero as soon as the game released. I never give ranks, but I felt I owe it to this game for the emotions it put me through for 35 hours.

    Give it a chance. Story wise it is just not the same game as part one, great one nonetheless

    The Last Of Us Part II Review

    If the death of Joel drives you off playing the game, you are not seeing the whole picture.

    For the sake of this review I will focus on the Story part, as is the part of the game more polarized, the rest (graphics, sound, game play) is also so **** awesome.

    Here are my 2 cents on this…

    For me Neil Druckmann is for videogames what Vince Gilligan is for tv series (or movies I loved El Camino), masters of narrative, and that may not be fair, as The Last Of Us Part II may become a precedent on how to deliver a story in any medium.

    The world portrayed in both parts of The Last of Us, is a violent one, instead of building a world together to face the Cordycep infection, a devastated mankind turned against each other, a regime based on fear by the Military, scarcity of food, fear, paved the path for the emergence of many factions, including the Fireflies, that opposed the “de facto” government of the Military (at this point the remnants of the USA government).

    Joel learned to thrive in this environment, he became a thug, smuggling, killing, that was his trade, and Tommy’s to before he left for Jackson. This antihero, who lost his daughter (Sara) to the military, enters in the journey of delivering Ellie across the country, we all know and love this journey, but the end is particularly important in order to grasp the extent of the story and why the death of Joel was not uncalled for, but rather intrinsic to the story that is being told to us.

    At the end of part 1, Joel takes the selfish decision of killing everyone in the Saint Mary Hospital to save Ellie, to whom he loves as a daughter (or at least at a later moment, but at that point he is very attached to her). The state of the person that Joel was at that point, driven with fact that he was still coping with the death of Sara (20 years or so later) gave little room of choice to Joel, in Part 2 he confesses Ellie that he would do it again. Was this a good choice?? Did those doctors deserved to die?.

    In this never ending circle of violence that the world of The Last of US portrays, each violent action has a consequence, we only saw one side of the coin in Part 1, and what the writers did here was showing that violence, however justified it may be, will only lead to more violence, more suffering, that is what justifies Ellie’s decision in the beach at the very end of Part II, this it what she realises at the very moment she sees flash of Joel playing guitar in the porch appeared in here mind (also a very important moment to understand the scope of what Joel did at the end of Part 1).

    The course of Abby’s life was forever altered at the moment Joel killed her father (the doctor at the end of part 1 named Jerry Anderson) her mission in life became at that moment, a quest for vengeance, her father, Dr. Anderson is portrayed in the few instances we get to see him, as a caring person, who was always trying to help everyone (including a zebra). Can her quest of vengeance really be unjustified?

    After that, she shaped her life (and body) for the sole purpose of avenging her fathers death. She couldn’t let go, she couldn’t forget, a new loop in the circle of violence that Joel started and ended with his death (Joel knew that time could come, he tells here “say whatever speech you have rehearsed” showing also no remorse). Killing Joel in the presence of Ellie and leaving her alive, created yet another quest for vengeance, couldn’t we agree that the same justification for Ellie to kill Abby, Abby had for killing Joel?

    And for me, this is why The Last of Us works so well, it shows that those terrible actions, for more justifiable that they seem, will only create a ripple effect, that sooner rather than later will catch on with you. Abby’s side of the story is crucial for understanding this, and why the whole plot of The Last of Us did not revolved around Joel being a beloved character or hero to some (he was absolutely not that) but extend of all the actions surrounding Ellie’s journey and their effect.

    At the end, Ellie chose to break that circle. Imagine if she had drowned Abby, she would have had to kill Lev, who basically saved her and Dina, asking Abby to stand back in the Theater back in Seattle. Otherwise a new loop in the circle of violence would have been created, now Lev seeking vengeance for the death of Abby and so forth.

    People should play this game with fresh eyes, there is a great story, delivered with an outstanding narrative and a positive message. One of my favorite games of all time!    … Expand

Instead it turned out to be a pandering piece of media that I can't in good conscience rate higher. Deaths are inevitable but the meaninglessness of killing of the main protagonist of the first game really drives the point home that the writers do not care about the fan base.     Best game ever made by sony :) loved it from start to finish :) the leaks were true but I dont knoe after actually playing it it was great :) game does have many flaws tho the way they told that story was stupid and rushed in my opinion this game should have been about abby only that would be better for her character :)

    Waited so many years for this trash fiesta. First half of the game is decent, then they make you play as Abby for 10+ hours helping people you don't care    Completely duped!     It was just a huge let down, as a fan of the first one you won't like part 2. I think everyone who likes this one wasn't really a fan of the first game. They just found the saddest story endings to all the characters we loved in part 1.     This game is wonderful, it makes you feel in the same boots as Ellie, the same feelings, even when it was said the this game wasn't gonna be a pleasant journey, every detail is well made, and the way Joel influence Ellie was like a true father to a loved daughter such a good character development

Soy un gran fan del primero y tras haber terminado este puedo decir con toda la seguridad del mundo que me ha hecho sentir cosas que ningún videojuego sido capaz de hacer te hace sentir la rabia la frustración y la profunda depresión en la que las dos protagonistas se ven envueltas no es justo que la gente odie una obra maestra como esta sin haberla jugado tan siquiera aunque claro está que tratándose de un tema tan maduro no esta hecho para todos los públicos el final te desgarra por dentro como muy pocos videojuegos han sido capaz de hacerlo. Para mi este es algo único ya que no han tenido miedo de matar a alguien tan importante para nosotros como lo es Joel y después de ponernos en la piel de su asesina para entender las razones de porque lo hizo ver como la violencia genera más violencia y todo para acabar viendo a una Ellie demacrada mutilada y sola que ya no puede tocar la guitarra lo único que le quedaba de Joel por su venganza y culpándose así misma de todo lo que pasó. aquí no se tratan de malos o buenos sino de como se ve el mundo desde distintas perspectivas y de que no es todo blanco o negro para mi en términos de historia, gráficos jugabilidad y diseño de niveles es magistral, si le pudiera sacar algo negativo por sacarle algo es la poca importancia que le dan a Jesse ya que no sientes nada cuando muere cosa que con el primer TLOU si que lo consiguieron con Sarah. es un juego que da que pensar y me apena muchísimo que haya generado tanto odio entre los jugadores de forma totalmente injustificada. No matter how much Abbey had various pasts and conflicts, it was the beginning that Firefly tried to perform surgery without telling Elie or Joel. You can play this game again if there is a DLC that can narrow down Abby, but in me it is the best choice to escape the reality that Last of Us 2 was not released.… Expand

    I have 10 hours gameplay so far and the game is just amazing, dont care about homophobics haters that didnt even played the game. Speaking about the final plot in less then 1 hour launch game.

    As much as i did not like the ending and the narrative, i have to say that it totally makes sense especially when you are in that kind of world. Killing begets another revenge and thats what you gonna get for killing innocent.

    The combat, if i can rate exactly, would be 1000/10 when you know how to make use of everything that has been designed wisely and is supposed for you to use against your enemies. The game is not all about sneak-attack and there are more than 20 ways of approaching your enemies. You have 6 weapons for each playable character as well as bombs, arrows, silencers, etc. so stop saying that it is repetitive. It is your playstyle that is repetitive, not the game combat mechanics. Also, the game meelee combat is extremely brutal and you gonna feel for every hit you make. All i can say is that Naughty Dog did a very good job in making the combat feel so realistic.
    Music is another strong aspect of the game. Just watch the credit roll and you will understand it.

    Overall, if you ask me whether its worth your money and time : Yes, definitely. Give it a try and judge the story for yourself rather than just reading spoilers and watching some cut-scenes on youtube. The game feels extremely different when you ARE THE ONE that is actually playing it.    … Expand

Its honestly not the way to go, great mechanics, and game play, but the story is horrible, why would you lie to "us" in the trailer with young joel, and also why would you make "us" play as abby, its like you're laughing at "us". If the story was joel dying early, and then the plot of Ellie getting revenge, it would be an awesome game, but you made a weird mess by making Ellie do "horrible" things to get to abby to then just forgive her, it doesn't make sense, humans dont work like that. And also not having multiplayer was was kind of disapointing, I have heard that you might add it later or as its own game, and I hope you do great on that one.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its clear that many of these reviews are false. You cant rate a game on day 1 without having played it, which is silly.

    My take on The Last of Us Part 2. The game is brutal and unforgiving which shows how revenge can destroy both parties. The characters are all broken by their experiences which makes the games softer moments all the better. You find yourself looking at it from a skewed perspective for a time only to have the carpet firmly pulled out from under you, taking you out your comfort zone. The characters are well envisioned and written great. You understand their motivatilns whether or not you agree with them. Their justifications for horrific actions is purely to satisfy the guilt they feel. However, the realisation that they are slowly turning into monsters sets in and perhaps this can be seen as a redemption. I am reminded of Game of Thrones to a degree. Jame Lannister was reviled for his actions. Yet, in the later story, he realises the he had been manipulated by Cersei and wished to make amends of sorts. When I began playing as Abby, this is what came to mind. I felt thatI realised that, regardless of her actions, we hd no understanding of her motivations. Ellie cannot see past the death of Joel and neither Abby nor the rest of her crew explain why they sought revenge. And for that, Ellie is driven to chase them down and kill them for their transgression. I applaud Naughty Dog for taking risks and making something that is not another paint by numbers sequel you see so often today.

    The acting is great I don't think one person in the whole game felt lifeless. Even the nameless soldiers who seem to be everywhere have personalities which make them more than just cannon fodder. The relationships that each character has feels real and this is only improved by the amazing performances. Ellie and Dina's budding relationship is turbulent and not without grief. But what relationship in the apocalypse is going to be perfect? I love that Ashely Johnson and Sgabnon Woodward seemed so natural that it was realistic and not forced in any way. Is the story original? No its not. Revenge tales are 10 a penny. But, the originality notwithstanding, the story has been told well and didnt leave anything to the imagination.

    However, i am not without some gripes. I feel that the story rushed a little at the start. I wasn't really able to enjoy some time with adult Ellie before everything went to hell. Similarly I feel that this is the story best left to the third game in the series, but I cannot fault Naughty Dog for going the direction they did. Gameplaywise, there is little difference. While this is not necessarily bad I felt that perhaps changing up the gameplay a bit more would have been a good idea. There is little innovation to speak of here. All in all The Last of Us Part 2 is a brutal and emotional journey that explores the nature of revenge and its effects on those around you. With only a small amount of gripes I feel that this is a great way for Naughty Dog to close off this generation.    … Expand

    Sim, eles venderam como uma história de vingança. Mas não é. Assim como o primeiro jogo não é sobre um apocalipse zumbi e a tentativa de se fazer uma cura. The Last Of Us 1 é sobre um pai lidando com o luto pela perda de uma filha. The Last of Us Part II é agora sobre uma filha lidando com o luto pela perda de um pai. Só que um pouco mais complexo. Pois ela não simplesmente perdeu o o Joel. Ela perdeu a chance de perdoa-lo pela mentira sobre o primeiro jogo.
    Assim como no ultimo minuto do primeiro jogo Joel decide que ama a Ellie e faz o que é necessário para protege-la, condenando a humanidade para sempre, no final de The Last of Us 2 Ellie desiste de sua vingança pois entende que ela não pode vir a qualquer custo.

I really hated going back to play as Abby. Take me back to Ellie!!! Then started to like it. Then really enjoyed it by the end. Lev is the best ever. Ground zero made me almost wet my pants. I just....look, I read a review after I finished that said this isn't the game fans wanted, and I can definitely get behind that sentiment. But then it goes on to say it's still a f*cking good game, and it really, really is. Gameplay is a lot of fun, graphics are great. Some new elements to fights were a great time. As in the first game, I just adored the collectibles, the notes left around, the little background stories we get to see bits of. Ellie's journal was such a nice touch. Especially at her judging a teens journal in the first game from someone from before the outbreak for only worrying about clothes and if a boy likes her, then she's all "does she like me??" in hers. Nice little touches there.
    Dropped a point for me personally as some things were off with story pacing, some things rushed that I felt needed more time and other things given too much time that felt it could do without. It would have been nice to see some more little "open world" play elements like the first part started with, to break up what after that was the pattern of fight, slip through crack in wall, fight, slide down muddy path, fight.

    This game was amazing. I'll replay at some point, but for now my heart hurts. Incredible work, ND.    … Expand

    После прохождения остаётся ощущение опустошённости, ещё несколько дней осознавал и переваривал информацию, после чего решил, что хочу пройти игру снова, чем сейчас и занимаюсь.

    Это моё первое мнение на Metacritic, игру прошёл неделю назад, но только сейчас решил, что нужно оставить свой отзыв об игре.

    Most of the criticism other people have stem from the fact the story is not what they wanted/expected from the game. The game takes alot of risks which might not resonate with everyone. The game follows Ellie, after the events of The Last of Us (Part I) Joel and Ellie have settled in Jackson, a settlement run by Joel's brother Tommy and his wife Maria. After a traumatic event, Ellie sets out for revenge on those who wronged her and the ones she loves. This sounds like a classic revenge story but it is much deeper and more nuanced that it might seem at first glance. Like I mentioned before, Naughty Dog took some risks and made some bold choices with some of the characters and events that take place. The game requires you to think about it and play with your brain on. There are multiple layers to the story that get peeled off as you progress through the story. In the end those layers will reveal a bittersweet core that will make you question the character's choices and actions in a haunting and beautiful way. It might not be the story I expected or wanted but in the end I realise it was the story that was needed for the characters we loved. It's an incredibly nuanced story that really forces you to reflect on the characters we love so dearly because of the events of the last game.

    Gameplay has been refined by quite a bit compared to the first game. Combat is incredibly grounded and realistic. Enemies are smarter and will make an effort to take you down in various ways. Besides that different factions in the world have different strategies when it comes to combat which makes combat varied, fun and tense. Crafting is still here, there are now more and different recipes which gives you tools to tackle encounters in different ways. Movement has seen improvements, compared to Joel, Ellie controls very different. Ellie is much more agile which again, makes the encounters feel different. The addition of a jump button, although it was marketed as a major feature, was not used a lot. Jumping and going prone was mainly used for environmental puzzles and exploration with the latter also being very useful in combat. Collectibles come in the form of trading cards, artifacts and coins, these are a fun little distraction that can keep you busy while exploring the massive environments Naughty Dog has given us to explore.

    Graphically the game is stunning, even on base PS4 visuals and performance of both the game and the hardware are phenomenal. Character models and environments are varied and look incredible. Long grass moves in subtle ways when the wind blows, ice breaks when walking through it, rain drops reflect on metallic objects. Everything looks and feels just right. Combine that with the amazing sound design and you've got yourself an amazing, immersive experience that is rarely topped by other AAA games.

    This is definitely one of the most controversial games to have ever come out in the last 20 years. The game is very divisive for alot of people and the reviews reflect that as well. I'll end this review with on of the best quotes I have heard to describe this game.

    It crazy how many settings there are, you can really costum the game as you like it. My friend has a hard time seeing dark colors, but the game allows him to apply vision accessibility preset.

All in all this game is a massive disappointment to anyone expecting a true attempt to continue the beloved story, this game shouldn't even be considered TLOU2, its essentially a new IP that reuses assets, names and voice actors. You play as a character who killed the protagonist of the first part. You just hate yourself. And it takes a living to play. It was necessary to fix up so that we played for Abby only at the beginning of the game. Just to show who she is and what she wants. I know that in the second half of the game they wanted to show Abby as a character, so that we penetrate her by the end of the game, but Naughty Dog did not succeed. Everyone criticizes the fact that Joel did not die “heroically”.     The writing in this game is as good as it is daring. For the first time naughty dog puts a challenge in front of you that can't be beaten by skills or by playing. A masterpiece in meta writing. I loved the first one and I love this one, maybe even more. Just because it is a sequel doesn't mean that it has to suck. Loved playing it through and being able to see Ellie again, but older and more affectedThe story is still amazing with great development.     It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. While there were a few genuinely good moments, majority of game filled up with plot holes. It just took elements of what worked for the first game without understanding what made them compelling.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
