I kinda wished that I did not buy this game and just watch the streamers on twitch and youtube play.

I know some people are mad about the game because they either expected a fairy tale ending or had strong opinions about matters not pertaining to the game itself. My advise is to play this game with an open mind and not focus too much on what people spoil for you here without actually finishing the game completely....

All in all, in a cut-throat lawless world that Ellie, Joel and rest of the characters live in, there is no such thing as justice and predictability, TLOU 2 is meant to be a dark game with unpredictability. I hated Joel after the first game for his selfishness and last minute change of heart. Naturally everyone in TLOU universe would hate him and want him and his allies dead... Everyone wants to survive and everyone is a hero in their own story.

The story is as unpredictable as it gets and the game-play arcs for each character is worth playing for. I have had enjoyable moments looking for all collectibles, safes, trading cards and notes left all around the environment in each chapter. It's interesting to tie all these artifacts together to piece up stories of all the bodies and infected people you encounter in the game... The developers really really put in a lot of effort into the game and it shows.... Please see the early gameplay trailers from 2017 and now (there is a youtube video out there showcasing that...) Plus, it also shows, like the current world we live in, nobody is perfect when making decisions. Everyone has some good moments and everyone has some bad moments. Plus, fate decides whether you live or you die...

Keeping to that tone, this game is a masterpiece. I agree with the game creators to end the game on such a note as it leaves space for questions and thought. I found the story arc similar to Pulp fiction. Naughty Dog can now work on newer projects in peace regardless of spoilt meta fans and review bombers...

The whole story can be encapsulated into a one liner - "An eye-for-an-eye leaves the whole world blind!" - befitting the title itself THE LAST OF US

All suffering and efforts of the protagonists, from first chapter, are totally vain with this epilogue. I think is really masochist for a game author to do such thing in a entertainment story. Despite this the gameplay and graphic is very good. I dont think is bad that is the same of first chapter. The only issue is about the story. Also the sexuality of the protagonists is so marginal in the story that i dont see any "revolutionary" quality for a game that pretend to be progressist and open minded. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall, it's not a bad game, but not a good one either.
In my opinion, the story is decent, not nearly as good as the first game's story, but still ok. The biggest flaw it has is the presentation and the order the events are shown in.
Abby is a decent character, and to be honest I found myself more invested in her story than in Ellie's mainly because she doesn't appear as just a character dominated by one single wish which is to take revenge, although I must admit that they forced you a bit too much to care for her. Her killing Joel would have been better if the players knew who she was and why she did it first, instead of her showing up out of nowhere and bam, Joel's now dead.
I'm really bothered by the fact that Joel was reduced to having two appearances before dying, which is a horrible decision. Why not show the flashbacks first and tell the story chronologically? Just a horrible decision overall.
Also, I didn't find myself caring about any of the new characters they introduced besides Abby, which was because they shoved the fact that you must care about her for the story to work, and all the deaths in this game carry nothing with them, not even a trace of significance for the plot or the characters.
Also, what's with all the SJW stuff in the game, like all the male characters that matter to the story besides Tommy and Lev dying until the end? They were just not necessary and they don't bring anything to the game besides pleasing hardcore feminists or whatever.
The character development for Ellie is just a mess. Besides the final farm scenes where she maybe kinda tries to walk away from what happened for what felt like 5 minutes, she's just a bland character obsessed with revenge.
The gameplay, although it doesn't bring many new stuff to the first game's gameplay, was more fun mainly because the fights were more satisfying, and you have more ways to play the game in a stealth fashion with craftable silencers and bows that are straightforward to aim with.
Scavenging is pretty fun, although a bit excessive at times, with the absurd amount of safes that you have to find codes for.
The graphics, environment and voice acting are just amazing, no other way to put it.

Overall, it's certainly not a bad game, but the story is just a mess in the way it's presented and gameplay can feel a bit exhausting at times.

    TL DR :
    Graphics - 10/10
    Gameplay - 8/10
    Story - 4/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although the game is astonishingly beautifully done, what cautivated me from TLOU 1 was the dialogs and the characters. Part 1 storyplot was motivated by love, being that love at the beggining broken from Joel, but Elie manages to heal that and it´s what drives the plot ultimately to me. In a very sick and apocaliptical world they manage to help themselves and the story plot leaves you with a wonderfull feeling of father-daughter love story.

This second part is the opposite, it does not build upon anything good, it left me unhappy to pay this story. In my opinion, although the game is well done, the story is a failure, and that was what i tought was most great from the first part, and what compelled me to get the second. A shame, i was hoping to play a game that left me that same good taste in the mouth, a story about pushing yourselve to be better. TLOU 2 is the opposite and leaves everyone broken, and you are just part of it without beign able to do anything about it.

This was not a story that i wanted to experience, in my oppinion the plot is bad, it doesn´t matter how well it´s done. If a movie plot is bad it doesn´t matter how well it´s done, the movie is bad. This is the same in mu oppinion.

And i do not expect to play the game ever again, i regret even playing it the first time. I did play TLOU 3 times, even with the PS4 enhaced version, and is still one of my favorites.

A three is what this game deserves, and only because it is very well done.

The last of Us 2 is a masterpiece of the generation, with its perfect scenarios, together with its environments, and the climate, lighting, game mechanics, gameplay and movement, the characters' facial expressions, sound effects and the soundtrack sound, all charming.

You enter the heart, the humanity of the characters, embody your feelings and your dreams, your desires. Interpret and feel, the soul of each one, in its details. Unlike a film, you are in the skin of the protagonist, who increasingly makes you empathetic.

In this post-apocalyptic world, we reflect and see, how the society of good is more united and human, like the society of jackson. Values are different, there is no value for money, what remains are only the virtues of the soul, and your passions, be it for music, or dreams.
Unlike today, nobody needs to show off or put on makeup, hide their hearts, they have no futility or material possessions, only the truth, and pure emotion, soul, feeling, are properly valued.
Surviving sharpens your feelings. Living out of social status, and giving value to your feeling, and relationships, exchanges of emotions and affections.
That and passed in the lore of the game, all the characters, are more emotional and sentimental, deep in their being, being hard and brutal to survive, violent, but still loving and feeling.

Each subtlety, each attitude, you feel interpreting each act, each chapter of the protagonist's mentality, is a surreal experience.

You feel the soul, the feeling, the expression of Ellie in every song played on the guitar. This is incredible, just wonderful.

The story is impeccable, it was a great way to create a well done and exciting plot, which keeps you glued to the plot from beginning to end, and its impactful actions.

The game remains perfect, with a story that establishes principles and difficulties, demonstrating the brutality of survival. How people change for thirst for revenge, what they lose, and how far they go. Hate only ends when forgiveness begins.

In this game, as in the first one, it is not about heroes and villains, but about the behaviors and choices of the human life we make, and how they will trigger actions.
The best way to cut the sadness of losses through revenge, is by forgiving, breaking the cycle.
We lose humanity, we leave our passions in search of that thirst.

However, even with forgiveness, the consequences happened, they were great and without return for all the characters involved with the protagonists.
The journey of revenge cost him everything, that is very sad.

Game to question yourself, to evolve emotionally. Game of the generation without a doubt.
Is it worth hating? Peace can only be found through empathy. Hate and revenge are feelings that have a vicious cycle.

This game changed my life a lot, it impacted my way of thinking, how a game can convey something so profound and true, better than movies. In every detail and affection, that naughty dog put this eye candy for the eyes and soul .

Joel finds a new meaning in life, having feelings from father to daughter with Ellie, she changed her life, and transformed him into a new man, docile and protective.
Just as 1 made me change my relationship, how we should protect and love, and even about adopting a daughter, this made me go back to being emotional, and falling in love with the protagonist, and her little details, that pass so much from her soul and her personality. Ellie and lasts, and also a sweet person.

I recommend this game to everyone, it's a work of art.
A game that you feel, it changes your life.
Game to be admired, cultivated, reflected.

I will focus on the story. If you go into this game with story/character expectations, then you will be disappointed. This IS NOT The Last of Us 1.5, this is an entirely new, more realistic, more human, game. Go into this game with an open mind, and it will stay with you for a LONG time afterwards. Characters you hate at the start (one in particular) are so well developed that you understand, if not like them, by the end. The same happens for the hero characters, you will disagree with their actions throughout the game, and your opinion on them will be changed, because they are painted as real humans, making real human decisions, some good and some bad. The game is made up of morally grey characters, unlike most games made up of black and white characters.

All the above isn't just good or bad writing, but excellent writing. The story is fantastic, gut wrenching, spellbinding, and most importantly real - or as much real as it can be in a post-apoc setting.

I just finished The Last of Us 2 an hour ago. My immediate reaction: Wow! What a work of art!

A lot of thought and care went into this game. There are so many little details producing such a realistic world, that over the last 19 days, when I wasn’t playing the game, images of the game would come to mind and elicit emotions, and I’d have to remind myself I wasn’t thinking about the real world.

Without spoilers, I want to talk about what makes this an amazing game.

The gameplay is an improvement over TLoU(1). The different items and tech trees are more intuitive, and cleverly distributed among characters. The choices about what to upgrade are interesting. When comparing notes with a friend, he upgraded things I didn’t, which means different players will have different experiences. The movement of the NPC’s, and how they interact with the environment are amazingly realistic. A very welcome improvement is the ability to go prone. In addition to adding a new challenge during puzzles, this adds to effectives of stealth movement.

The music is beautiful and hauntingly evocative. At times I found myself feeling anxious or relieved and I’d realize it was because of the background music. One sequence in particular using Take On Me is so beautifully done that it brought tears to my eyes.

I don’t know if there are industry awards for video game voice casting, but Christine Haas Korkosz should be nominated for them. The chosen actors truly bring these characters to life. In particular, the actor voicing Owen was outstanding. This character could have easily been a caricature, but Patrick Fugit brings this supporting character to life with humor, angst and hope, improving all the other characters he interacts with.

The visuals in TLoU2 are almost worth the cost of purchase on their own. Some scenes and moments were so beautiful they made me gasp and want to linger longer than the game allowed. This is no small feat, to convey such wonder, joy, and beauty in a video game.

So much thought and detail went into the creation of this world. I noticed, early on in the game that there was a crock pot in a bathroom. I thought, at first, “Why would there be a crock pot in the bathroom?” Then I realized, if there was no running gas for that house, they’d need to heat the water with something electric for a warm bath. In an abandoned apartment with a D&D set up in the living room, it was a wonderful surprise to see the (realistic) setup for miniature painting in another room. These tiny details are easy to miss, but contribute to making this world real.

Sound effects can hurt a game if they’re weak, or are “invisible” if they’re good. In this case, they’re perfect. You’re talking to another character and they turn a corner without you? Then that other character’s words become muffled. You’re too close to an explosion? Sound is muted and you get a ringing in your ears. You’re trying to move in water? Your movements creates a quiet sloshing sound. Every action has a realistic sound reaction.

The common thread I’ve seen among the negative reviews is that TLoU2 has a “weak” story with “plot holes”. It’s clear now to me that these reviewers didn’t actually play the game. While I can understand why some people might be SADDENED by events in the game, that doesn’t make it a weak story.

When I think about what I want in entertainment, the common denominator is that I want something new and different. I don’t want to see the same things over and over again. When I see a movie and can guess early on how it’s going to end, that’s a mark of poor writing.

I want to be stimulated. Surprised. And I want to feel some kind of connection to the characters. The Last of Us 2 accomplishes all this. This game made my heart race with adrenaline and anxiety. It made me gasp, flinch, care about the characters, and yes, even cry at times. The structure of the story was masterful with revelatory scenes carefully placed. While there are surprises, none of them are out of character. This is a well-told story.

While I find it hard to call anything “perfect”, this game comes close. I do have 2 “areas of improvement”:

    1) The sound leveling. Several times during the game with loud background noise, the characters’ speech was sometimes soft. This resulted in me missing part of a joke, or part of a backstory, which frustrated me.

    2) The length of the game. The game went on just a little too long. To a degree, I understand. This was an in-depth story and it was important to experience different events to show the growth, evolution, and interaction of the characters. I just wish there was maybe one less battle, or maybe a little more tightly edited cut-scene.

The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece. I cannot imagine getting a better value for my entertainment dollar. Naughty Dog deserves to be proud of what they have accomplished.

The story is extremely impactful and emotional, you can feel the pain of the characters just by the facial expression, Ashley, Troy and Laura are just incredible. All the narrative develops from what is going through Ellie’s mind, they try to make the player feel exactly what she feels, and it works perfectly. When she’s angry, you’re angry, when she is anxious, you’re anxious. No beloved characters are disrespected, whoever says that doesn't even tried to have the full experience.
The main idea of the game is the conflict between empathy and the search for survival, with Ellie having to make very complicated choices, similar to Joel in the first game, the parallels of flashbacks with the present makes this evident. But we have to remember that Ellie is not Joel, she’ll try to do the same things that he did without resentment, almost mirroring his actions, but the way she will handle the consequences is what makes this game perfect.
It makes me so sad that this game had so much hateful comments and got review bombed. Maybe if the community weren't so mainstream and it weren't a triple A it could be praised for the masterpiece it is. Just as games like Life is Strange, Detroit, and even the first Last of Us, it is molded by a tremendous narrative and great characters, and maybe some people are just not ready to experience a huge emotional and realistic point of view. Even though I still think that this people didn't played the game or are just finding reasons to dislike the game to support their prejudice. Claiming that this game has poor writing, awful characters, LGBTQ+ propaganda and its made for SJW is such a shallow and terrible statement to do.

Of course the game-play, the action, the characters, the atmosphere were all top notch and what we come to expect from the game makers. But the story design was terrible. It isn't that the story was bad, it's an interesting story -- but what the problem is how the story was laid out. There were way too many flashbacks and flashbacks within flashbacks and it all became meaningless.

Each protagonist and all their connections are revealed as much as possible. Experiencing each main character. The authors raised the theme of the circle of cruelty of malice and hatred. The outcome of the story is very realistic, it is not always possible to get rid of the void after loss. The main thing is not to stop and will learn to let go and put up with these losses.
First of all, for me, this is the best game for its plot, authorship and graphics. Authors can start creating serious scripts for films!

This for me would have been a 10/10, if it was based solely on the first half of the game. I may be one of the few who didn't have a problem with the first plot twist of the game. It pissed me off a treat and got me pumped for the next part. However, the second half of the game is where it really fell apart. Being forced to play in a certain way and feel someones agenda being forced onto us, seemed unnecessary and in al fairness, killed the game. By the end I couldn't wait for the credits to roll. I was free running through the last parts of the game , not even caring about threats or being bothered to pick up resources. The game had beat me, but not in the way it should have. I even got so bored i came up with fun ways to throw myself of buildings. The visuals were stunning, game play was good, and I loved some of the Ellie flash backs. That's why it pains me to have to give this game such a low rating. Shame on you Naughty Dog; who probably wont care as their wallets will be brimming. Wish I had saved my money. Shame Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I liked The last of us part II, but i considered that it is not as the fist title.

Playability: it is better that first tittle (although is a sequel must do), introduces new zombies enemies and dogs (A good point for me, these enemies have got kill me many times), but human enemies are very silly, although i have seen that in levels more high (Difficult and survival) this is fixed (I have played in normal)

Atmosphere: Jackson, Seattle and California feel alive and it can see the great game design.

Graphics: The best the generation with red dead redention II

Plot: Ok, this is the parth that i have felt a little disappointed, i`ve liked the Joel´s death (It is logic, respect the first game), but i think that could be better that we have known more later, Ok i explained:

In this game we control Ellie and another caracter, Abby, who´s killed Joel, if Naugthy Dog wanted that we felt something by Abby, it shouldn´t have showed as soon Joel death´s, and theremore should have mixed the two stories, because when i started the Abby´s story, i felt to play another game, and is a cut action total, and the island part, i spared a lot, i don´t like anything Isaac, Lev and Hanna (In my opinion, this part is badly told.

I think that this game has a great ideas, like the stupid that is the revenge, but the direction in this game has not lived up, it is a pitty, it could have been a masterpiece.

Amazing game mechanics - it's a technical marvel....but the story is bad.
"Last of Us: Part 2" is a poorly written narrative.

The first "Last of Us" game was phenomenal because of the overall experience. The concept, the gameplay, the characters, the fluid & naturally paced series of events, all contributed to what made the game such a sensation.

In "Last of Us: Part 2" There's no clear protagonist or antagonist. The dynamic of the game creates two main characters on opposing sides which they show through a series of jarring transitions that take you out of the immersive experience.

This creates a level of confliction and detachment from both characters that you never would have expected from a game who's predecessor crafted a story so well written you became emotionally invested in almost every character on screen.

At best it's a story of 2 women who's hearts grow cold and actions turn savage in a cruel unforgiving world. However, the journey to get to the story's resolution is unavoidably unsatisfying.

In the first "Last of Us" it was the journey of a man who once moved aimlessly through life, stumbling onto a mission to save the world. By transporting and protecting Elle he was instilled with a renewed sense of purpose and with it now had a reason to live. Clinging to this newfound reason to live he was ready to sacrifice anything to preserve it. "Without you, I'd surely lose myself".

"Last of Us: Part 2" said with every opportunity, "This is not the story you first fell in love with". So the entire game hinges on the concept of revenge and without it "the journey has no sense of PURPOSE".

So we as the audience are left thinking ".....well I sure hope she gets revenge then." But as soon as the thought crosses your mind the story shifts it's narrative to humanize the originally perceived antagonist to make you question the justification of revenge. Finally, you're left you realizing there are no good or bad guys, no heroes, no villains, no reason....to keep doing this.

So, in the end, you're left feeling empty because there was no point to any of the events you just played through.

This game does the "Last of Us" universe a disservice.

It's unavoidable to sense "They tried really hard to write an amazing story and missed the mark."

    It really is unfortunate.

Getting right to it, I will say this is a good game. Is it 10/10? No. is it 1 or 0/10? Also No.

Firstly - there are too many bad reviews on here because people just didn't like what happened to Joel, or the game is 'Leftist propaganda', or any other number of silly complaints, and honestly speaking, I feel sorry for them. Just because a game didn't give you the story you think you deserved, or if you don't agree with gender stuff or orientation of people because you're too stupid, is not a reason to trash on something 100%. I hope everyone gives this game a fair chance - if you don't like it, that's ok, but least be fair about it. I hope my words seem fair - I played the first right before this as I never had, and while I enjoyed it, it didn't blow me away like so many others, so take that as you will, but I think that gives my opinion a fresh and possibly more neutral stance.

With that out of the way, I will say this about what I liked:

Game play feels very improved. The controls feel tight and responsive, animations are great and fluid. I do feel the AI is much better as well, calling out to each other to circle around and alert others. Not the *best* AI ever, but very good, especially for a stealth game.

Environments are absolute jaw droppers. Beautiful and quite large, well made and intuitive. I do wish there were more open areas like early on, however wasn't really a negative I would take away, just something more I would have liked to have seen, pretty minor.

Enemies are much better, and new ones are damn freaky. Some of the bosses were straight up amazing/terrifying. Even returning ones like clickers feel harder to deal with and more intense.

The big elephant in the room, the story - I will outright say I did in fact like it, but it's definitely not perfect. I'll try not to get into spoilers, but I am saying that even though this is really, REALLY, not a happy story, that doesn't mean it's bad. I think the story that happened, happened for a reason, even if we didn't want it to happen that way. I respect that, and to be honest I think that made me feel a wider range of emotions than if we had gotten the happy 'ellie and joel ride off into the sunset' story everyone keeps complaining we should have gotten. Actions have consequences, and this story is about that. The first tlou was about hope and the relationship joel and ellie built, I think this one is much darker, really about revenge and dealing with grief. Very different, but that doesn't mean that's bad.

Now, leaning more towards the negative, I have this to say:

While I did like the story overall, there were pacing issues that I really didn't like. I think, for me, the timing of some of the flashbacks felt wrong - you'd just have finished something major, you're really into that part of the story, and BAM, flashback that really didn't have much to do with what you were doing. It felt.... off, and very jarring.

Along with that, some parts of the game seemed to drag much more than others. Playing as Ellie? blew through it. But at some point you play as Abby, and whatever your thoughts are about her, her areas just felt.....longer. And not in a good way. Almost at times you kinda just wanted the game to hurry up and get to the next thing. With Ellie the pacing was good, story elements seemed to happen when they should - with Abby, I kept hoping around the next turn something would, but often didn't.

And lastly on the negative side, the characters, more to the point, the new ones. I liked them, that wasn't the issue, however they didn't really do anything with them. You meet and set up these new people, and they just kind of...don't do much with them. I think parts of the story could have been made much better if they had developed these characters more.

All in all, I really did enjoy my time with TLOU2. It's a very different game than the first, and I think a lot of people were angry they didn't get what they were hoping these two characters they loved deserved - I hate to say it though, but that's kind of life. A lot of bad stuff happens to a lot of people that either don't deserve it, or that we love deeply, and that's just how it is. ND told the story they wanted to, and just because we feel angry, upset, or even sad, about the story, that doesn't mean it was a bad one. Combine that with very, very solid gameplay and exceptionally beautiful areas, and you have a really good game.

Please give it a fair shot.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the first time I have felt the need to express my opinion online about a game that fell short of my expectations; like The Last of Us Part 2. With all my decades worth of gaming when I sat down to play The Last of Us in 2014, I had never been so emotionally connected to a story in a game and its characters. It left a lasting impression in the way it perfectly pulled me in to experience every hope, fear and gut wrenching sadness that Joel and Ellie did. It is the only game in my collection that I played more than once....4 times in fact, and each time I played was just as enthralling as the previous. It didn't achieve this with only it spectacular visuals, fun game play, haunting music, perfect voice acting....all of that would have been hollow without the superbly crafted story that brought everything else together. I needed to provide some context before I shared my thoughts about The Last of Us 2. I went into this game completely spoiler free. Trusting in the developers to open my heart once again to another chapter in a story that I didn't want to end. When credits rolled on this game was left wrecked emotionally... feeling akin to a pet I loved for 7 years was just put down. The first game left the player with something special and this game takes that away and snuffs it out. Again without knowing anything about 2 aside from the release trailers; I went into this expecting Joel to die in some way(it just made sense for the progression of the story); so I am not upset that he was killed. But the hows and the whys of his death felt so rushed and awkward. I doubt that I have anything to say that hasn't already been said about having to play the villain of the game when the story doesn't provide to any way empathize with her and see through the cloud of anger you are made to feel for the character. They light the fuse for the bomb in the most concocted and unbelievable manner, setting you on a path to revenge and then expect the player to have an epiphany in the last 10 seconds (translate to hours of game play) before the bomb goes off (getting said revenge) and stop to reflect on why the fuse was lit. Then to top it off when time catches back up the player is forced to beat down the last remaining shell of a character in the game they care anything for. I've spent a number of hours post Last of Us 2 trying to reconcile my thoughts and listen to both sides of opinions on the game and I have found things I can agree with on both sides. But at the end of the day... I have un-installed this game, will never look at it again, wish that I had never played it, and could never recommend to anyone that loved the first one to ever set eyes on it and especially not spend hard earned money on it. If a sequel is made I will not be buying it, unless their is an indication that the story is a re do; and this one never happened. But even then I don't feel that I can trust Naughty Dog the same way anymore. The promotional material for this game was extremely deceptive after now seeing the finished product. I truly believe that the vision of this game was drastically changed mid production and there is a Last of Us 2 in the ether that could have been, but was drowned (the way that the Villain should have been) before it could be fully realized. the game is brilliant because it shows impartially all that cruelty and genuine feelings of the world of last of us !!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, at the beginning, Grade 10 is to balance the grade due to Review Bombs. My real grade is 8. At the beginning, I apologize for possible English errors because I am Brazilian, Let's start.

Initially, the gameplay is incredible, I loved the avoidance mechanics and the speed of the fighting and etc., Artificial Intelligence is incredible as they coordinate to flank or make Patrol Routes, the Scenarios are also amazing especially Santa Barbara in the end, however the story disappointed me in some ways, i did like some parts but i was too frustrated with Joel's death, in my opinion they could have better used this great character or at least given a dignified death or even put gameplay with him, Abby seemed having no remorse for killing Joel and looking more like a psychopath with a pleasure in killing, while Ellie regretted and was intent on killing Mel and Owen and almost killing Abby.
In my opinion it is still worth buying the game because of its fun gameplay, I still have fun today after platinizing and playing several times in testing aggressive stealth fighting and etc.

My grandfather was a veteran of World War II, he told me various stories without details. This game like no other shows that the order of the world in which we now live is very fragile. If you are coming from the first game in the series, the gameplay from Last of Us Part to Part 2 is the only thing that you will be familiar with. The story is not in the same 4 part structure as the first one. The game takes twice as long and with it comes more surprises. The Rat King fight comes at you out of nowhere and I was sweating in fear. That's how immersed I was in this game. The origin story of the WLF and Seraphites is incredibly interesting (Rattlers not so much....). I think the story told might be divisive as you are simply playing out the decisions that your character makes, but you won't come out of the game regretting you played it. Expand

This game is near perfect in every way. Don't listen to the haters. Most of them lack the emotional and/or intellectual depth to fully understand the game. The people I know personally who were disappointed by the story or the structure rate it 7 or 8 out of 10. This is not a 1-star game by any measure.

The game isn't enjoyable due to bad story decisions. The gameplay and graphics are good but not mind blowing. The 0/10 and 10/10 reviews are both wrong... It's just an average game because of the butcher work they did to the story. The game is average, a 5/10 is right.

A harrowing, emotional experience. Raises the bar for story telling and gameplay. The art direction, animation, cinematography and graphical fidelity are unsurpassed in the industry. A must play for anyone calling themselves a gamer, or anyone ready for a pure no excuses style story about redemption, heartache and the horrors of revenge, violence and PTSD.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I adored the first game. From the powerful characters to the strong and compelling narrative and the bond between Ellie and Joel. This game nowhere near lives up to the legacy of its predecessor, to say the least. This game has completely abandoned Ellie and Joel's bond by killing Joel in the crudest most disrespectful fashion imaginable. Joel's premature death was done for nothing more than shock value. On top of this, the game forces you to play with the character who killed the former beloved protagonist for half of the game. It just doesn't make any sense! The game in no way allows you to resonate with Abby's character prior to her irredeemable act which IMO prevents the player from caring about Abby's storyline at all. The game overall attempts to manipulate your emotions into revering Abby as the hero of the story through her flashbacks and sequences and making you resent Ellie, a character whom you have grown to love so very much from the first game.

Both Ellie and Abby's choices in the game felt so very out of character for both of them. What little character they did have in this game. The story does little to make you feel enthralled in their choices as more and more time passes they just kept getting more and more predictable. The decisions that Ellie made in the game clearly had a traumatizing effect on her (Certainly not a fan of how they handled any of the this). But Abby, on the other hand, felt no remorse for any of her actions and dismissed them all as if they meant nothing. Abby's quest for revenge was successful and yet seemed to have no effect on her, yet Ellie's left with her with nothing which is just weak writing and doesn't make sense. As I aforementioned they try to make you venerate Joel's murderer over Ellie so they leave Abby with everything and Ellie with nothing but pain and misery.

The ending is just goddamn absurd. Ellie spends all of this time, builds all of this effort, kills all of Abby's friends (including Mel who was pregnant regardless of self-defense), yet in the end, she couldn't bring herself to kill the one person responsible for Joel's murder. It just feels so vague and pointless at that point. The game's theme is shallow in comparison to the first game. I mean ending the cycle of revenge is just cliche and isn't portrayed properly in this game in general. None of this is what the first last of us represented. The first game offered a much more in-depth meaning that resonates with the player.

*Now some good parts to the game*

Graphics: These are some of the best graphics I have ever seen on the PS4 hardware and IMO is second to none. From the beautifully crafted environment to the attention of detail on each surface.

Music: While I feel the theme and atmosphere of the game were shallow you can't deny the beauty of the music in the game.

Gameplay: This game offers little to no innovation to the combat system or companion Ai. But it does however improve enemy AI dramatically. This games Ai's are able to flank change cover well etc.

Flashbacks: The game offers several flashbacks of Ellie and Joel's adventures subsequent to the first games ending. While taunting they were the only things left of what made the first game so great.

That's it for my review. This was incredibly hard for me to make as I completely venerated the first game. BUT I hope you understand my point of view.

    *Bad Parts*

Plot holes: Several inconsistencies to several characters

Characters: Characters in this game are poorly developed (some aren't even fully developed) and do not encompass everything necessary to be distinctive or interesting in any way to the player.

Character Development: All characters simply do not change throughout the story and remain static which shatters the Character's development in general.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the best stories I’ve ever played. Gameplay is fun too. I feel for those who are upset about an important character’s death, but think the story rides that death so well to make an amazing game. Getting to see the reality that “the bad guy” (Abby) is facing through playing as her really blew my mind. I’ve never played a game that did something like this. I obviously was a little upset with playing as Abby at first, but I learned that she was a human too living through her own experiences with love and loss. In the fights between Abby and Ellie I really couldn’t choose a side, and at the end when I was tapping square to stab Abby I had a hard time doing it. It’s all quite bleak, but an interesting look at the reality of humans and their quests for vengeance. I respect the opinions of people hating on this game, but If the queer themes get to you I recommend trying to be more empathetic. If these themes ruin the game for you you’re probably a bigot who can’t look past people loving each other or being who they want to be. Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
