The story is... ok and it sorta doesnt make sense but Joel's actions did have consequences although i would have liked for him to stay for at least until the 3rd part and even with all of this, we still have Ellie and Tommy to bring justice. Horrible choices by the director. Horrible characters, story, camera play, map is like a maze. Game forces you to play 50% of the entire time with a character that you have and feel disgusted by. Just play Last of Us 1 and forget about 2, not worth the time and money spent.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A stunning game. Visually and mechanics-wise it improves upon everything the first game did right. The attention to detail, atmosphere, artwork, are all spot-on, 10/10. Storytelling-wise, 9/10. The way Naughty Dog did it was bold and unusual, and I dare to say revolutionary. In TLOU 2, the story is stripped of narrational perspective: the thing that makes the heroes get out of a pinch, makes you sympathize with your hero and his ideals. In other words, the plot is indiferent to the two sides of the story: Ellie and Abby. It doesnt favour one or the other. What you get when employing this is a true journey of self-reflection. You can't hold on to anything or anyone, you can't just take the side the story takes because there isn't one. That's the way this game got me feeling. I couldn't hold on to Joel. I couldn't bear to see Ellie hurt, but I couldn't hold on to her either. I could empathize with Abby to some extent, but I couldn't condone her actions and couldn't hold on to her. Everything about this game was heartbreak and despair. The game accomplishes this lack of narrational perspective almost perfectly, but I feel like the Abby side need more reenforcement. We have to have in mind that Ellie was a character with a lot of history and emotional value. She was, therefore, at an advantage. That's where I feel the game failed. The two sides of the story are supposed to be equal, but Abby, because of her narrational disadvantage and lack of internal insight ( by internal insight I mean the "peep" at a person's mind, like Ellie's journal entries), feels too much like a side character. This is, for me, the reason many, while empathyzing with her, didn't care for her enough for that empathy to feel real and meaningful. This is the main reason I give the game a 9.
Now, I can't make a review of this game without addressing Joel's death. At first, I was dumbfounded. On the earliest hours of the game, they killed our dear The Last of Us hero in the most horrible way possible. I thought it was merely for shock value, but it wasn't. You see, the narrative had a problem. How can the game portray the broken relationship between Ellie and Joel? How can you truly have a sense of the tragic, the despair, the hopelesness that they feel? So they kill Joel. They make it even more tragic. Because now they didn't even have the chance to try and fix what they broke. And the storytelling that they got in exchange for Joel's death was breath-taking. They don't tell you the whole thing together. They tell you pieces of it. Flashbacks. Memories. Journal Entried. Photos. And that's the truth about loss. That's all you got of your relationship. And because Joel is dead, you cherish those moments and little things much more intensily, like Ellie does too. So even though I was very sad that Joel died and to this day it sometimes comes back to me, I think it was very very well done. Hats off to Naughty Dog to doing a very risky thing work wonderfully.
This game was loss and injustice portrayed beautifully well. But maybe it wasn't just that. I like to think that, at the end, when Ellie utterly lost everything and everyone, she also found what she was looking for. And that's a very special thing, for game with such a desolating ending, to leave a somewhat uplifting taste in your mouth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It is an amazing looking game with great gameplay mechanics. The story is okay as a stand alone game but as a sequel I found it to be boring, disrespectful to fans and not at all what I waited for. Joel’s death is rushed and dumb, he looked so naive by giving his name and location in a place full of armed strangers. That’s nothing like him. Also I never came around liking Abby. She’s just a character I don’t care about. I get what naughty dog was trying to do but I waited 7 years to play as Joel and Ellie, and even if Joel had to die, let me play the whole game as Ellie, the character I actually care about, the one I waited all this time to know more about. I did not wanted to play half of this long awaited game as the character that killed Joel. A couple of hours with Abby would’ve been fine, but not half of the **** game. And Joel’s death aside, I just didn’t want to play with this characters. I mainly loved the first game because of Joel and Ellie’s relationship, all they went through, how they end up in a father/daughter relationship and their backgrounds. Even if Joel had to die, let me play this game as Ellie. If they start with such a bold move like killing Joel, a character all the fans loved, then let the story be about that. Anyone on Abby’s story (including her) could die and I would not care. Also, when you finally catch on the cliffhanger, they make you beat the **** out of Ellie with Abby. What the **** At least let me play that scene as Ellie, let me try to revenge Joel, even if the outcome is exactly the same, that was something that had to be experienced as Ellie.
Overall it is an unique experience that might be worth playing for the graphics alone. But as a huge fan, I feel they ruined everything I liked about the first game.

To be honest I'm a big fan of the franchise and I think that there is a lot of good things about the game on the graphics and the music, the sound of the water and the nature. I enjoy most of the game but the history. I think that there is a lot of no sense. How ever even the game doesn't have that memorable experience as The last of us, the truth is that the game have a propose and has been completed by the creators. I don't hate Abby for been Abby but I have feelings about the fact of her behavior and the way she killed Joel was so cruel, I do understand the revange but not the brutally on that. At the end of the day Joel killed her father but didn't tortured him. Expand

1st. Im gonna address the biggest counter argument that most people at naughty dog seem to claim when they see a bad score/review against the game: Politically Im very much left leaning pro-gay rights, pro lgtb and very much a advocate for do what makes you happy and be whoever you want if it makes you happy person. However , then comes this game set in a end of the word scenario whose main character Ellie is gay with her girlfriend. So far seems fine with me here, they could have made a beautiful love story tying these 2 characters together and bringing the fans even closer to Ellie and this new lover or hers. Then you have Dina, another gay/bi character getting in a relationship with Ellie. Ok fine. Good representation to the LGBT community and a decent love story could have made these two glow in recognition from everyone. Then you have Abby an unlikely character possible in "the end of the world" with muscles that consume 10,000 calories a day and require 3 hours at the gym daily. This is where the problems start, ok so now we have another gay character that everyone ends up hating but ok. So the 3 main characters are gay/lgtb. Then you have a 4th character Lev that joins Abby that TURNS OUT is ANOTHER LGTB character than joins and become part of the main story line. Now up until now you could let things pass, but now you throw you hands up in the air tired of the PANDERING and at this point PREACHING of this whole social justice warrior intentional normalization "agenda" being shoved down your throat in a game that you just want to play to have fun. Everyone easily recognized as straight was killed off. however in a apogalactic game with just a few thousand people alive in the US, and in this world , the only survivors are the gay people. like REALLY??? These people have become exactly the type of person that they had set out to destroy.

Now in regards to the game. Best word to describe it :Terrible!

Let be realistic here, just as the first game, This is not a game with incredible gameplay and amazing in depth content. This Part 2 and it was part 1, is a game Heavily STORY DRIVEN. Is a game that will redact the characters in a form that you can empathize with them learn to love them or to hate them. I remember in the first game me continuously had me laughing and going at Ellie :"What the hell is up with this little **** as a response to her snarky and Whitty attitude that was just a front for her ever growing fatherly love towards Joel. In this game Ellie has lost all personality and likeness , basically an Emmo Young Woman that kills and murders with no reassuring reason as to why. Joel was murdered and deleted from his main role 2 hours into the game. This was the biggest mistake. Im not against killing Joel just against how they did it without adding any real meaning and value to the story. Sure revenge was the underlying tone for Ellie to hunt Abby but there were so many deviations that it just felt like that really wasn't the driving force in the game and much less when YOU SEE THE ENDING!! HOLY **** What kills the story mainly is the addition of this Abby Character. The killer of Joel who they make you play for half of the game while you are hating her for just killing your previous main character. There is so much more I could put down but this is more than enough to hate any story driven games.

The only good thing about this game is the amazingly beautiful graphics and sounds details. I did love the gore of the game and the individualistic setting of the enemies calling themselves by names all the time, which made it even more closer to real life. In my opinion First play the first game then go to Ebay and buy a used copy of this game. Dont give your money to this company for atrociously destroying an amazing franchise.

I could have given this game a 6/10 but after seeing how many "Professional" Reviews Naughty Dog bought , I will counter with what they really deserve. 0/10

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
