This game is a mess, it wants to be unpredictable at the cost of stupid acts. The gameplay and graphics are decent, but the narrative is what totally destroys the experience, from the prologue you can see how they dispose of one of the important characters from the first game in such a horrendous way and the supposed lesson Ellie learns in the ending doesn't make any sense. The plot is 5/10, it has twists and turns, but we all know how idiotic ending this game has and the developers have not changed it, according to critics who were not afraid to rate this game lower (7.0 / 10) said that many threads are forced to just evoke feelings on the player (threads about LGBT and love that forgives everything, even killing someone close yhh, fellings, more fellings, more more fellings....in a zombie survival...). Another strange thing is that the creators decided to significantly limit the number of black opponents, rly? the creators assumed that during such an apocalypse there are definitely more white people than black people?! pathological... and this is exactly political correctness....When it comes to the AI (people) often is wrong/bugs, when it comes to zombies it is just like in the first part, nothing new, only a new interface, if the opponent notices us constantly we receive notifications that we have been detected and we are threatened, it is really annoying and you can't turn it off. This game is saved only by graphics! STOP MAKING GAME ABOUT LGBT AND POLITICAL CORRECT!!

Just no, Naughty Dog has destroyed their most polished franchise. I commend the graphics, animations and mechanics team. You guys did an amazing job, however, what the **** Neil Druckman and Halley Gross. You bloody bastards killed this franchise and dig up your own graves. The other random additional characters were just added to die because they wanted this game to be as intense as the first one and they just failed. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The worst game EVER! The first game was about the relationship between two characters: Joel and Ellie. This part introduced way too many unnecessary new characters that only complicated the story and deviated from the evolution of Joel and Ellie. The whole game was about the cycle of revenge. Abby kills Joel, and Ellie set on a journey to kill Abby. While she kills hundreds of people just to get to Abby, she gets the epiphany that killing won't change anything. Excuse me? What about the hundreds that Ellie Killed just to get to Abby? They're just unimportant I guess. I just don't understand what is the point of the second part. The first game ended and let the players decide for themselves whether Joel did the right thing or not. However, the second part assumes that Joel's decision is wrong, and it's just a big f*ck you to all the people who thought Joel did right by Ellie. And who's Abby again, the unrealistically muscular daughter of a worthless NPC from the first part. Everything felt forced in this part just to demonize some characters and try to push Druckmann's ideas of what is right and wrong. As a true lover of the first part, The Last of Us had ended at the point where Ellie said "okay." This part is just a spin-off and is not even close to the first part story-wise. The game is fantastic on level design, sound, and graphical fidelity, which is something I expected from ND developers. But Druckmann needs to leave ND if Sony wants this studio to continue. Otherwise, Druckmann will bring ND demise! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So let's get this out of the way, the game from a technical and cinematography perspective is just absolutely wonderful. Landscapes are amazing, gameplay is fluid, and sound design is excellent. Am I over reducing major encounters into QTEs? Yes, been over it for a long time. So with all of that, the game is far above a 1 or a 0 simply on the back of its technical brilliance. The rest of the game does its damnedest to try to drag the whole thing to hell though.

Where the game truly fails is on 1 simple failure of storytelling: you cannot backfill sympathy. The moment that Abby shotguns Joel's leg after he saves her without a second though, my opinion of her crystallizes; especially in a story about revenge. You cannot spend half the game trying to make me care about her and understand her plights and her why after she has already committed the act. Storytelling just doesn't work that way. Maybe my opinion of her shifts if you help me understand her and develop her character BEFORE she kills Joel, but after? No, never going to happen. Same goes with Abby's friends. Most of them, we know that Ellie kills before we get their story, and all of them participated in killing Joel; so how the hell am I supposed to be brought to care about characters who both did the bad thing and I know are about to die? I can't, because the story won't let me even if I wanted to. And I get it, the game is trying to show you how similar Abby and Ellie are and how hatred and revenge is an all consuming flame that begets a cycle of hatred and revenge. I get it, I see what you are attempting to do over there....you just did it extremely poorly.

Beyond that characters are wildly flat in this game. Ellie is considerably less interesting, Joel...well to be honest basically every second Joel is on the screen are the best character moments of the game which amounts to an hour, Tommy doesn't feel like Tommy and is basically regarded as an off-screen psycho-killer the whole game, Jesse is flat, for the life of me I can't see what Ellie sees in Dina or why Ellie spontaneously falls in love with her, and Abby is hard to judge because I am conditioned to hate her from the moment I meet her and nothing that happens over the course of the game overcomes that initial impression. Abbys friends are all over the map, some more interesting than others, but usually by the time we get to learn who they are on Abby's side we already know they are dead on Ellie's side so what is the point of getting invested?

It's a story and character driven game and that is where it is a giant letdown. Maybe the score is higher if the first game wasn't so brilliant. It tries to do a similar thing to the first game: take a simple story concept: "dad does anything to protect daughter" for the first and "revenge for killing my dad" in this one, but spin it in a new and interesting way. It fails this time around unfortunately. It really sucks that Joel and Ellie's relationship which was full of complexity and beauty and realism will never touch our screen again. It really does make me sad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It plays well, but the selling point and high point for the first one was the story, and the story of this one is terrible.

In film it’s ok to switch protagonists or make an antagonist the main character. The problem with gaming is no one wants to play as a character who is actively killing or maiming the characters they loved from the previous game. It just doesn’t work and it seems cruel and unusual to play as a bodybuilder who has killed one character you loved and then as that bodybuilder you violently beat up another character you loved(in a fight that seems wildly outclassed in terms of physique) and then smash in the face of that character’s pregnant girlfriend. It’s utterly tone deaf and doesn’t work in any sense. The main takeaway and theme of the game is “murder is bad” yeah, we knew. You can’t take characters that were established and loved and mold them in to fit a theme and totally disregard them.

Don’t play this game. Don’t support this game. It is character assassination all for the sake of subversion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In this review I will be as honest as possible. Many people are angry at the game and are giving scores of 1 or 0. Does this game deserve them? Absolutely not. Does this game deserve the snobby false 'woke' reviews from the critics? Absolutely not. This game in my eyes is a classic example, much like Wolfenstein young blood and battle field V of a game which tries to force modern day issues and characters into their games to portray the characters in a positive light. Although nothing wrong with that in the slightest, poor execution of such a forced concept can inherently come back to bite you, this game is exactly that. It spends so long trying to force an emotional connection to the new characters but fails to realise that the characters themselves are not only boring and have a disingenuous back story, they also do not even have a fraction of the appeal of the old characters (Joel and Ellie) in terms of personality, likeability and emotional bond between game character and game player. I honestly felt as though the desire to care even slightly about the new characters was being rammed down my throat with mild back stories and forced interactions. What made the LOU great was arguably its characters its story, the magic of which is completely lost. They tried to take the franchise in a new direction at supersonic pace but sadly crashed face first into a wall.

The game play element of the game is amazing though, despite the criticisms of the story, the game is visually striking. Apart from reusing a lot of generic GTA V looking NPC models which is a serious letdown based on how amazing the rest of the game looks the game itself is arguably single-handedly carried by the environment and map design and appearance. Yes there are elements of the gameplay which are boring, however it really pushes the limits of the old console systems to deliver a visually impressive game despite being run on a dated system. If this game were to have released on the new console right now the visuals may have even carried this game to a 7/10, however here we are. With a broken franchise that tried too hard to drive a story with no legitimate foundation that left me as a player completely unable to connect and justify the actions of the new characters and not at all wanting to see any more of their story.
