This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was able to enjoy this fresh without being spoiled anything. But this story is amazing for what it IS. A lot of people are disillusioned by the fact that it's not what they wished it was. Trying to empathize with some of the characters is necessary. It's necessary to try and empathize in a meta-way because we play as Ellie, who at the end, learns to empathize with and forgive Joel. She says "I'd like to try [to forgive Joel]" and the same is being done for Abby.

There are legitimate criticisms of the game. The pacing is all over the place, and the marketing is misleading. There is also the criticism that Joel let his guard down. All those things make this a very flawed game like any other. There were plot armor examples in the first game too (a little girl like Ellie with no combat experience being able to fend off tens of hunters and protect Joel when he is wounded at the university, for one). But just like the first game, which had a more airtight plot overall, I think it's important to enjoy the game for what it IS despite its flaws. The gameplay is imperfect in both the first and second game (with the jump button being clunky).

However, a game like TLOU part II elevates telling bold stories with emotion and trying to make a player feel emotions like never before to a new level. Although it's flawed, the sheer experience this game provides should be experienced by every Ps4 owner

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Having played the game for a while now The Last of Us Part 2 brings a whole new iteration to the franchise however, I felt as though something was missing from it in order for it to compete to the level of the first one.

The improved combat system and level design made the game immersive and responsive to the players actions. The amount of detail that was in the levels were one of the most detailed I have seen in some time especially within this current generation of games. The physics of the foliage overgrowing on buildings to blood trails in the snow made the players character feel more attached to the environment like reality to provide that immersive experience along with the detailed special sound incorporated within it. Another great part to highlight is the combat system and how that incorporates itself within the games levels, this made the players experience feel more unique as your finishers sometimes incorporated smashing enemies through windows or using objects within close proximity to finish them off utilising the environment and surroundings effectively.

Now I've got the positives out of the way here are some of the negatives in which I think had impacted the game a lot and have caused me to give the score I have given. Having one of the main protagonists die by one of the players characters made an intense and powerful story but unfortunately the execution of the killers character felt forced upon and that majority of the story with Abby feels as though Naughty Dog are trying to push you for sympathy of her actions. Due to a large portion of the game is played by her it kind of takes away what the whole story should have been about. From what I can see it looks as though many changes were made throughout the development which then caused the game to feel rushed in some parts which is quite disappointing as there was great potential there.

Overall, it’s not a bad game but don't go in there playing it with high expectations as you may be disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Naughty Dog took major risks in this game. Knowing they would shake their fanbase to the core, they took these leaps anyway. Right out the bat, they kill off a main character whom we've know and grew to love over the past 7 years. Brutally murdered in front of Ellie the game sets out to be a revenge story. As the player progresses through the story, thoughts and opinions change. The three days in Seattle are thrilling, horrifying, and emotional. Just as Ellie is making her rounds on the people who killed Joel, the player feels a satisfaction. But I saw this monster Ellie was becoming, and so did she. After killing Abby's close friends and former lover, the game resets and you play as Abby. It was an interesting way to approach the villain, as the player creates bonds with Abby and all of her friends you know Ellie will kill later on. Just when I thought it was over, it went on a bit longer. Although I can see why some may not like the ending, I was satisfied. The games main theme for me was forgiveness. Ellie struggles with this not only for Abby but also with Joel. Going through a lot of pain, Ellie changed as a person and changed for the better.

Gameplay was outstanding. The amount of times I'd be in shock over the brutality of the gameplay was common. Enemies would cry out for their friends after seeing their head blown off. Even killing a dog had an emotional impact. The level design and world it takes place in were beautiful. Lots of exploration to do and many interesting things to witness. Many ways to approach enemies gave a sense of strategy and depth to the gameplay.

Overall, one of the best games on the PlayStation

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I ask myself:
But who has set up TLoU part 2, has ever played the first? I don't say in writing, I wonder, did Druckmann start from the TLoU script or from the 2013 TLoU final game? Because I have the impression that Druckmann did not play it
the game of 2013, let alone Part 2.
As a videogame player I feel fooled.
The game is written with such superficial content and pretexts that I wondered throughout the game: Ok but when does the plot start to mesh?
When does this stupid paradoxical comedy end?
Did Druckmann take into account that the players think while they play and know after 2 hours that he is throwing on the fire badly explained and intentionally incomplete events to keep this clown standing up?
The player knows very well what Joel rightly leads to making the final choice, and he knows equally well that Druckmann omits in all this initial reconstruction the Terrorist behavior of the fireflies towards Joel.
They created Part 2 of a very different story, where Marlene (Ellie's adopted mother) totally comes from the girl.
The player realizes that the whole part played with Abby is exposed to make her put on the same level as Ellie, but at the same time the player sees the events that are totally exposed in the opposite way, Abby always kills in cold blood, would kill everyone at the Cabin and even at the theater, only Owen and Lev prevent her from doing so.
Ellie instead always tries to get to Abby looking for information, but the enemies always react by attacking her instead of indulging her.
Anyone realizes that this way of writing is not inspired at all, but is simply ridiculous.
Reflection: many already speak of TLoU part 3 and wonder what it could be, now that this useless Part 2 has badly consumed the whole cast.

Improved gameplay, different characters, different thematics and different ways to communicate them: Naughty Dog dared where everyone else would have made a carbon copy of the previous chapter, creating a mature game for mature people instead of a "game for everyone" crap.
And what did you do with such a masterpiece? You **** demolished and wrecked it, because it is politically correct (see a doctor please), because there isn't Joel as active character (are you 12 y/o?) and history didn't flow as you expected (are you 12 y/o and do you need to see a doctor?), because it has narrative inconsistencies (see a doctor #3) and, most of all, because it's a trend to insult it (i don't speak because i would get in big trouble).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am with the party that heavily disliked the direction and execution the writers decided on for TLOU2 at the start of the game (I did spoil myself). However, as I played through the game there were points where we could get a sense of what the writers wanted to achieve by creating a dual narrative with moral ambiguities between Ellie and Abby, such that in certain perspectives you can see their actions as justified - righteous even. However, their execution on this matter was criminally poor.

Before I delve deeper into the story and characters I do want to say that the gameplay, sound design, and graphics were fantastic. Each melee attack had its distinctive weight depending on the make-shift weapon used, the enemy AI was intelligent and fair and the level design as a whole was done well. The ambience of each environment was distinctive and the infected noise and enemy callouts were pivotal in allowing a 3-D in one's mind. The sharpness of the textures, quality of shadows, each movement of the character models were slick and smooth. Nothing was revolutionary in these departments per se but their quality was of the highest level that one would expect for a triple AAA game, no less a Naughty Dog title.

The most controversial part of TLOU2 was the brutal death of Joel very early on in the game and this is where all of the inconsistencies and perplexities stemmed from. First off, it feels weird that Abby would seek her revenge on Joel the moment he and his brother saved her from the infected, even considering the hatred she has for him for killing her father about 5 years prior.
But then why would she brutally beat Joel? From the gameplay we play as Abby later on she doesn't feel like a person that would have so much pent-up rage. Moreover, why keep Ellie and Tommy alive? Abby and Co. can't seriously believe that those two wouldn't want to get their own revenge, especially for how brutally Joel was killed. I reiterate the fact that Joel was brutally killed because none of us wanted Joel to die that way, we wanted a heroic death if anything (on a side note the brutality of Joel's does set a good tone for the type of gore we would expect later on). However, what some of us might have forgotten or neglected to realise, that the game does explore through Ellie and Abby is that Joel's action at the end of TLOU was monstrous. He effectively sacrificed the lives of many for his surrogate daughter. This is a point that the game wants us to have when balancing the moral ambiguities between Ellie and Abby, but again throughout the game, we get introduced to groups of people like the Seraphites and slave traders, undermining Joel's decision.
So then what, surely it would be better to save what loved ones you have in a world where only a small proportion of the people left are actually worth saving.

I could go on but this contentious point on Joel's death was what I wanted to focus on. Overall, TLOU2 had great potential, I applaud the writers at least for their gall to create something like this but unfortunately, they miserably missed their mark.

Not as many glitches/bugs as the last game (not denying that there are none) the game is probably the most realistic game I've ever played, where you can craft silencers, or where you can kill an enemy and he will take a second then fall to the ground, stuff like this is always a good treat. The music in these games are as incredible as always. The story is not as good as the previous game but still is a great story with the message being FORGIVENESS! Not this revenge = bad **** that people are throwing around the place, if you really think that is the only reason the game is bad or the game is bad because of certain spoilers... then I don't know what to say to you anymore... I think Ellie and Abby's side of the story is great bringing humanization to Abby, and "justice" for Ellie. I think the best part of the game is probably the ending, it just says so much, and i had such a blast playing this game. overall this game gets a 9/10

Edit: Coming back to this game now that I've platinumed it, I think that it is even better than when I originally played it! The Combat is fun and **** brutal enough to make you think you are in a life or death gun fight. The Story is really well written and executed, and you could make the excuse that the pacing is what makes this game bad, but the pacing and plot of this game is supposed to be messy. It is a revenge narrative coming from two sides of the same coin, of course the plot is gonna be all over the place that's the whole point! The Music in this game is BEYOND PERFECTION. There is music for the combat which makes you even more intense, and music for the emotional story-beats which on its own tells a whole story by itself. The Characters are extremely well written and I think that it's genius! The AI is also so **** advanced, I think this is the best AI I've had in a game. The Companions are genuinely helpful when you're in fights, the enemy AI is really advanced and fun! The zombie AI is a bit dumb but again zombies are dumb so y'know. Overall playing this game more and more just makes me love it so much more! In my opinion, this is the closest video-games will get to perfection! I'm excited to see what else Naughty Dog releases next, and I'm giving this game my first ever 10/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have finished the Last of Us Part II and I must say this really got me. The mechanics, the graphics and the sound are great. The way you interact with the environment makes tlou2 a very realistic and immersive experience of its own kind. However the main aspect of games like the last of us, the story, is really bothering me. The story pretty much starts off with Joel’s death. His death had a very powerful effect on me and most people probably. This death had such a powerful effect not only because of the fact that it is Joel who they killed, it’s also the way he got murdered which bothered me a lot. Later the character who killed him, Abby, was also the one we played for half of the game. This part of the game was a way to make us sympathize with Abby, but it didn’t really let me do that. For the entirety of her part, I couldn’t care less for what Abby experienced, let alone even having any kind of sympathy for this character. It was the opposite: Every time I died as Abby, I got happy, I cheered. The Ellie part compensates until a certain point for the failure of the Abby part, but only until Ellie becomes the one who is the most lost. The ending is the ultimate height of futility. What is it even worth trying and fighting for? That’s a question not only Ellie has to ask herself, but also the player. What is even the point in playing if every action leads to more loss and loneliness? Perhaps this is what Naughty Dog tried to accomplish and if it were the case, then perhaps they had the wrong goal in mind. Expand
