this type of game is heavily influenced by the story, this story is so terrible!!! how can you give this 10/10? are you out of your damn mind???? this is so wrong...!!! the characters and story are so bad you just don't even care what happens next because you don't give a damn about them after what happens to Joel..... you just can't defend this game no matter how much you loved the first one.

Looks like Sony got their devoted fans to spam this game with 10s cause it's not allowed to have a bad user score. and since you are here thinking about to defend this game's generic third person game-play that feels like a straight up copy of the tomb-raider reboot, or the story that quite frankly takes cues from saturday morning cartoons for it's attempt to make you sympathise with a killer by making her pet dogs and help people while the main character that tries to avenge her father figure is made to look as bad as the writer was able to by making her kill hundreds of people, some dogs and a pregnant woman. the theme of "revenge bad" is also completely lost since Abby got her revenge on Joel and gets to go home completely scot-free while Ellie stops her revenge at the last second due to a short vision of Joel's dead corpse. how does seeing a vision of your father figure's lifeless and beaten up body make you stop killing the person who made him this way? i honestly don't know, it makes no sense. so yeah Dr. "100 brains" Uckmann is a hack who only got the last of us to work cause Bruce Straley was probably keeping him in check. if you are some schmuck from twitter you would be askin if i would bring up that i liked the first one and that i am disappointed with this gmae. sorry to disappoint you cause i thought the first one was just an alright 7. I stayed optimistic after what happened in the beginning Ellie’s first half saved the game it made you forget what happened and made you remember what was great about the first, but why make me play with some one you absolutely hate from the beginning for almost 10hours lose any type of love you had for the game that you gained back from Ellie and then fight the main character you love. I understand they’re trying to make you see her perspective but even that wasn’t enough. It was just running around fighting with an old fling. I’m just going think this never happened maybe give my self a concussion so it’s gone from my memory and play the original. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game, my feelings were mixed. The graphics are the best you’ll find on the PS4. This is seriously a great game to look at. The music is written by Gustavo Santaolalla who kills it once again for this game. In fact, some scenes ride purely on the graphics and music to illicit an emotional reactions and I found these scenes incredibly insulting. The gameplay is a solid B+ for me. I often would get frustrated when popping out of cover as the enemy was able to get a shot on me faster than I could Iine up an accurate shot on them. What I realized is that the game is trying to encourage frantic dashing around the map. I would be most successful when I popped off a headshot from stealth and then quickly relocated myself to avoid the onslaught of enemies moving in on my location. I think this works well enough but I wish the game had a little bit stronger aim assist by default. Now onto the story. I don’t want to go too in depth here so all I’ll say is that this game is filled with situations that feel so unbelievable and forced. The story as a whole is both unappealing and unrealistic given the context of the first game. And 10 hours are spent playing as the antagonist, trying to earn sympathy from the player for this character. This falls completely flat and what you’re left with is hours of pushing yourself through the story just to get back to the characters you actually care about. Overall I don’t think that this is the sequel that the first game deserved, and I’m looking forward to doing another play through of that first game to cleanse my palate. Expand

Gameplay is the same as the first game, except now you can go prone and you can now jump. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I first heard people weren't going to like the game, I was nervous about how it would affect me when I experience the game for the first time. I didn't want anyone to die, but Joel did. But is it a bad game? No. Is it a masterpiece? No. This game has flaws, which made me not care about the story. The most fun I had with the game is when I had to get the boat as Abby with my "friend" strangely enough, that kid reminds me of Atreus from the god of war(btw a masterpiece), I enjoyed that mission because of the crazy **** that is happening all around the character, but that's beside the point. Graphics are always good, its naughty dog ofc. The control feels unresponsive from time to time. The combat is the strong point of the game. The way enemies react when their friends die, and they call out their names in anger and sadness, this made me wonder how they would improve from this? The gore is realistic to the point that I stop and sometimes see the enemies' heads on how it was impacted by a bullet. Also, the environment is always breathtaking; I like how detailed every house looks on how they were run down and in ruins, I thought that was cool. In the end, This with death stranding might go down as one of the polar games in recent history; I enjoyed the game just like how I do with a Mario game, don't care about the story, and focus all on gameplay. I give this game a 7/10

Check this out guys, we went from a sad story that was all about finding hope and meaning in life in a post-apocalyptic world to literal MISERY p0rn where nobody can be happy, except the main antagonist. The story is a basic af 'revenge' plot, where they turn Ellie into a straight up psychopath who only feels remorse in cutscenes for some weird reason while murdering over a HUNDRED of human beings over the course of the game. And when the time for the actual revenge on the only person who ACTUALLY WRONGED YOU and was not somewhat innocent, Abby, they DONT LET YOU KILL HER. They take away the control from the player and don't let you get the satisfaction of murdering the SheHulk. Wow.
Somewhere on the way there, you witness your father figure be brutally murdered. Later into the game, you are forced to beat the s--- out of Ellie because they force you to control the SheHulk monster called Abby. You have to press buttons and have to win the hand-to-hand combat duel with Ellie. This game breaks my heart. F--- you, Neil who directed this garbage and f--- you, Naughty Dog.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In Defense of The Last of Us Part II: The original Last of Us is arguably the best game of 2013 when it was released for PS3, and irrefutably in many Top 10 game lists of the past decade. The story of Joel and Ellie bonding through mutual trauma showed us how humans heal, bond, and persevere through horrible experiences. While we all remember The Last of Us fondly we are quick to forget that it was a truly depressing game. Joel and Ellie experience a grueling journey filled with deception, pain, and death all veiled in a dim glimmer of hope that the player helps Joel in extinguishing during the climax of the game. The player is forced to take a backseat as they instruct Joel in his systematic rampage of dismantling the last hope for humanity. Joel chooses the life of his surrogate daughter over anyone else. While many of us forgive Joel now 7 years after the fact it is important to remember that this was a divisive ending for many. Not all of us wanted to save Ellie. We all knew Ellie was willing to die to save humanity and many of us hated Joel for robbing us of our agency in choosing the ending we thought the game deserved. Still after taking time to process this pain we could see more clearly that we would have done the same. That was the true message of the Last of Us. We are all monsters with the best intentions.
The Last of Us Part II picks up where Joel and Ellie left off living out their days in a growing settlement clearly doing their best to move on from their traumatic past. The game is a visual masterpiece from the start appearing almost photorealistic on PS4 Pro. The dialogue, acting, music, and visuals all create an engrossing experience and define the Last of Us Part II as a technically flawless experience. The game could get top marks on these facts alone so what is there to hate. The only thing up for debate is the story. The story is purposefully problematic and many negative reviews reflect that. This review is in defense of The Last of Us Part II shaped by my personal experience. The Last of Us Part II is a bad experience and in saying that I don’t mean it is a bad game. As stated above the game is technically a masterpiece but the story is challenging to say the least. This game purposefully makes you feel like a bad person for playing it. The game forcibly traumatizes you repeatedly through the death and maiming of characters, forcing you to commit acts of dehumanization, and ultimately making you empathize with an antagonist turned protagonist who we would like nothing better than to torture and kill with a blunt object like she did to Joel an hour into the game. The game does not pull a single punch and each one of them lands forcibly due to amazing acting and a beautiful sound track that carry this story to an entertainment level that has left me at a loss for words at times. This game is not the game we wanted and it certainly does not have the ending we wanted but through deeper reflection it’s easy to see that both of those details just further enrich the experience. The Last of Us Part II is a better game and a more profound piece of art because it is so painful. This may be one of the best and worst pieces of art to come at a time like this. A time where we are actively experiencing a global pandemic, unprecedented institutionalized brutality, and losing loved ones close to us isn’t the best time for a game mirroring this reality to be released. The Last of Us Part II is a game about trauma, and how improperly processing trauma will only lead to more pain. The lessons it teaches could be critical for many in processing our collective societal trauma we all are currently experiencing. The game teaches us the importance of empathizing with our enemies and how trauma cannot be healed through violence. While this lesson is simple and may seem obvious to most of us the truth is that it isn’t. Some people still think that violence can solve problems and it’s not right to dismiss this important lesson just because it has been seen in other media. The lesson of revenge is painted realistically across the game and shows the player the consequences of their actions only after it’s too late to dismantle them. This is just one of many lessons from queer/trans rights to the dangers of herd mentality that The Last of Us Part II isn’t afraid to address. This game has an agenda of inclusivity and acceptance that many games still fail to strive for and rarely achieve. It’s message never feels forced and instead occurs organically as the story progresses. The climax rings hollow as a reflection of the mistakes we’ve made to lead us there and we as the player are left thinking what could we have done differently if anything. Only complaints I have, no multiplayer, I want co op. 9/10. The Last of Us Part II is a bad experience resulting in a beautiful piece of art. These are just my thoughts. Play it and form your own opinion, it’s well worth the journey.

This is not a video game. Don't treat it as such.
This product is an obvious political message with a price tag. It has nothing to do with the characters, story or resolutions from the original.

Spare yourself the indignation and disappointment.

Oh, and - any product that needs to censure the opinions of its intended consumer can and should be treated with contempt.

Graphics/Mechanics could've been better but considering the limits of the ps4 system Naughty Dog have done a great job of taking advantage of what it offers. There are plenty of popular games that make me want to just rush trough the game without thoroughly exploring it, but not this one. It made me want to explore every corner of it and I still missed so much. The game does a very good job of making you feel like you truly are in a post-apocalyptic world with its destroyed environment literally collapsing under your feet, ghost towns, constant fear of getting jumped at, nature taking back what humans took from it and the limited resources that force you to make your every shot count. The reason this is not 10/10 Is because the story left me with a big question mark after finishing it. It started tragically, ended unexplained and not satisfyingly enough. It just felt like all the bonds I had with the first game were spat at and left dead on the ground (you know the reference). Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
