The greatest storytelling achievement in the history of games. All the people who hate it will look ignorant in 20 years. Just because it wasn't what you wanted or what you would have made, doesn't mean it isn't a masterpiece.

They killed some of the games with such a promising plot ... Of course let's make a game that complascates a minority and launches it to the majority ... Anyway, good gameplay, with a decent plot. Another title to the trash

I am having the time of my life with this game. Having played the last..I'd say this continues on the great path of a game that is extremely hard to follow up. The negative reviews are bombs from those who don;t really play the game and have some political agenda for hating on some of the material. But I can assure you...if you are a gamer without political ties...this is gonna be the sweetest adventure in a while. This is one of those games that I try not to binge too hard in fear that the adventure might be over too soon. I feel the suspense all the while walking through. I love hitting a patch of clickers that I gotta take down. The game is just so beautiful it makes every moment playing a gem. I just can't give it high enough marks. Not to mention the quality of the execution...this game shines all the frigging time..almost never is there a time that I don't want to zoom in on something in the environment. So...if you can put your favorite controversy on hold...enjoy this seriously outstanding example of interactive gaming. Been playing since Atari 2600 Pitfall. I'm a gamer..not a political tool. Cheers! Oh by the way...you know you have done something completely magical...if you get some genuine haters. I love it. I mean...the last time Naughty Dog wrote a bad game is.....NEVER! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I’ll give it a 2/10 and that’s me being generous. Yes, the visuals and gameplay is solid, what’s expected from Naughty Dog with what they have on their backs (Uncharted franchise) Some parts of the story is solid too, the flashbacks of Ellie and Joel are heartwarming and heartbreaking as well. Now that I got the positive out of the way, the game is overall garbage. How is the developer going to kill a beloved and meaningful character in such a sad and distasteful way? Joel dying part of the story? Okay. But at least make it memorable, poetic, or heroic. Don’t just kill him off by pinning him down and having no hopes of survival. Story plot fail to deliver completely. Imagine you’re gonna go watch a spider man movie or a captain America movie and right from the start they kill them off? That’s exactly what occurred here. Now with that out of the way, okay Joel died now what? They could’ve made the story continue with having Ellie and Tommy go on the adventure in avenging https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/the-last-of-us-part-ii/user-reviews?dist=negativeJoel’s death and that could’ve been a solid storyline but NOOOOOO the creators had to ruin it even more by making us play the killer. I get what they tried to do but THEY FAILED AT DOING SO. HOW CAN YOU HAVE SYMPATHY FOR A CHARACTER WHO NEVER DEMONSTRATED REMORSE OR REGRET THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE GAME? Naughty Dog has failed all of us who fell in love with these characters. Nothing but disappointments with this game. Rest assure, I’ll be skeptical in purchasing another one of your games. Treat your employees with respect Naughty Dog, this goes for you too Neil. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Before I even begin with my paltry review, let me implore those on the fence: do not just look at numbers and hype. Experience this game for yourself and let it speak on its own. Few games have ever caused me to have such a visceral emotional reaction as The Last of Us. It is only fitting, then, that it’s sequel would up that ante beyond my wildest expectations. Despite it not being a perfect game, it is as reasonably close as I think any game could ever get. Let me explain some aspects that really resonated with me. *SPOILERS AHEAD*

First of all, despite any news to the contrary, the character development in this game is brilliant, subtle, and definitely not based on any agenda other than telling gripping stories. From the symbolism (Ellie’s butterfly moth tattoo, the guitar, etc), to the incredible voice and performance acting, this game sparkles. Ellie’s transformation throughout her revenge quest is so deep it is almost insane to try to speak about it in writing. After she tortured Nora to death, she returns to the theater, shaking and horrified with what she has done. At this moment you see her passion for this killing spree wane as she is content with killing only one more person: Abby. But then she is forced to kill both Mel and Owen, which forces her over the edge of horror with what she has become: a ruthless child murderer. She gets ready to outright abandon her quest, despite having done unspeakable things in the name of revenge. How fitting then, that her actions come back to haunt her just when she would leave it behind. She viscerally loses a friend instantly and nearly loses her life and the last two people she cares about. But then, we see Abby willing to let her go of her hate despite the horrible things she has done as her greatest moment of redemption. Then we see the ramifications of this moment of mercy.

I will be honest, I have never wanted a game to end more than when Ellie and Dina were living happily on their farmstead. At this point, the circle of violence was broken. Ellie was happy, safe, and had everything in the world that mattered. But it would not be a Naughty Dog game without a last haunting bit of story. Ellie just cannot let go of the festering hate inside of her. She cannot stop herself from seeing out her revenge. But in the ultimate twist of fate, her gut wrenching encounter with Abby ends with Ellie finally finding a way to let go. She beautifully recalls her attempt to forgive Joel, and we are left to know that she is trying to find a way to let forgiveness heal her broken soul. But it comes so late that she has lost everything. Physically, she has lost the ability to play guitar, her last connection with a Joel. This alone almost made me weep at the end bitterly. But worse yet, she lost the only two people in the world she has left to love. She lost her family. Yet with that final line, “I’d like to try,” Ellie gives this heartbreaking narrative the faintest glimmer of hope. The juxtaposition of the themes of hope and The crushing loss that always accompanies hate are what make this game resonate in such a deep way. Outside great literary masterpieces we rarely are treated to so nuanced a perspective on our human condition and imperfections. I won’t comment deeply on Abby’s narrative. Suffice to say it felt that her piece of this story was to pour a little gray into the moral mix, and give an opportunity to brilliantly flesh out the world and its factions. Lev also makes a great additional character, exposing both the philosophy and the perversion thereof in the Seraphites. He also gives an opportunity for Abby to spare Dina where she would have otherwise made the circle of violence continue uninterrupted. Overall, I cannot express how deeply incredible this game is. I haven’t even touched on the technical genius of this game because there is nothing remotely like it. The physics, the environments, the subtle ways the NPCs treat each other and their environment, all work to achieve the perfect immersion in this game. I cannot stress this enough; ignore the review bombs, and experience this game for yourself.

However Naughty Dog has only gone and destroyed its legacy with this dumpster fire of a game. Don't get me wrong, this game has definitely lived up to the visuals and physics I was expecting of the second iteration of The Last of Us. Though these are important, the story of this new game is horrible. The fact they killed off one of gaming's favourite characters as if he was a side note or a character with no personality. Due to this, the game felt more like a lackluster cliché revenge flick. I am highly disappointed by this title. Naughty Dog messed up badly and they definitely need to fire the entire writing team for taking the outstanding concept of The Last of Us and turning it into nothing more than a psuedo-emotional wreck.

For all the SJWs out there that think this is fine. Let me tell you that YOURS, is NOT the only opinion that matters! If my kid happens to see a sex scene, I can explain it away, I can have that birds and the bees conversation with them. If they see violence in a game, I can explain that it's just a game. But man on man / man on trans sex, NO, that is not a conversation I want to have with my child! They can learn about that once they are older and more mature.

Keep your SJW garbage out of your games. Oh, and word of advise, hire some new writers, preferably some that actually care about their fans. Thanks!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would like to preface this by saying I played this completely blind. I beat it once on moderate with about half of everything and 23 hour playtime. I had not watched a single thing about this game besides the one trailer shown 2 or 3 years ago. I'm not homophobic or transphobic or whatever else about this game has people riled up. I beat the first game as well and it still has a place in my heart because of how good it was. I want to start off by saying this: A lot people are mad that Joel died but what makes me angry and upset is the execution of said event, and what it meant in terms of story. It's a story about revenge, but it is taking a backseat to tedious gameplay and boring story points. The gameplay is the same as last of us 1 but even worse because that game came out 7 **** years ago and no improvements or changes have been made, besides adding melee combat as a more viable option. You'll be using your brain only to think about how bad the story is because the gameplay can be simplified to go behind enemy, push button, wait, repeat. Except 3 occasions, where you fight a boss or miniboss. Except two of them are the exact same thing, so there is only one unique boss encounter in the game. Braindead gameplay and a boring looting loop with an option in accessibility that basically loots for you as it pings every god damn resource take center stage as your characters talk about meaningless garbage. The story is bare bones, rarly elaborating on anything until up to 2 to literally 15 hours later. Your not shown any repercussions for your actions until so many hours later you either forgot or it's such an insignificant detail it makes no stupid difference. Like on day 2, you kill this girl who was playing this game, and on day to of abby's timeline, its revealed her name was whitney, and she said one line of dialogue, and you can buy her **** model in the extras screen on the main menu. Its trying to preach to you that revenge is bad, and it only leads to making te situation worse, but nobody **** cares the bastard killed MOTHER**** JOEL. He was one of my favorite video game characters and this game ruined that for me, because he also is a rare one that was in an awful situation and had a mostly happy ending. The best moments in this game are the flashbacks as ellie, especially the one at the museum and the one that happened after dina kissed ellie. Im not one who cries during video games, but when ellie apologizes to Joel and says she wants to be closer with him I was right with Joel tryna hold in my tears. It feels like all the effort in writing went into these flashbacks with Joel, because th writers knew the main person people wanted was Joel. I'm not saying they're didnt deserve the effort, the former hero deserves this treatment, but comparatively, the games average writing is mediocre at best. I'm also going to say it was to lokg and the whole playing as abby section really bugged me. Your playing as the bad guy your also lead to hate, and if you hate the character your playing as, you dont want to play the game. This whole section frustrated me to all hell as it goes on for longer than ellie's section did, if you didnt **** around for to long. I resorted to running by a majority of human and infected by the time I got to abby, and it was still 2 hours longer than my ellie section. I'm not going to say anything more because I could rant for longer if I could, but i want to talk about the endings. It should have stopped at the farmhouse, with ellie refusing Tommy's pleas and having to deal with the trauma as punishment for killing and torturing people. That way, it could have still gone along with the game policy of revenge bad, acceptance good. But no it doesn't and "that's fine I guess because it can be finished right?" I thought. If I get to kill her, then I'd be fine with that ending to. But nope. This is where the choice should have come in. You could kill her or spare her. If you killed her, the prisoners would find Lev, help him back to health, and he would hunt you. If you spared her, the ending that happend would happen, but dina would be home waiting for you to return. But no the game is ass and doesn't do that. I have ranted for long enough have a good day and dont buy this game. Expand

The storyline is horrible. They kill Joel in the beggining throwing away all the character development and his realitionship with Ellie from the first game. And then, they force you to play HALF the game with his killer Abby which is not even an interesting character at all. At this point i really just stopped playing and whatched the ending on youtube, and was shocked how bad it is. Every character in this game is so dry, that you cant care about them. Even ellie became a piece of wood. I dont understand how can you make it so bad from such a masterpiece. Honestly i wouldnt play it even if i get for free.
