Waited 7 years. What a disappointment when compared to part 1. I gave it a 2 only because of the good graphics and ellie and joel guitar covers.

The first Last of Us was an amazing game that, though dark and realistic, expressed hope, compassion, and sympathy for the characters. It was easy to get invested in them and relate to their struggles. Its opening sequence still gets me to tear up because of how brilliantly it presented the horror of the outbreak and Joel's tragic backstory.

The Last of Us II was an unneeded sequel, before and after experiencing the game. The first game ended perfectly, and didn't need a follow-up, but I was interested nonetheless. This game however was not worth it at all. Character motivations and decisions are automatic in the since that they always go for the dramatic and violent action, regardless if it makes sense. There is no human story to this, unlike the first game. No hope, no reason to see these characters reach the end of their "journey." It is just an unending slog of revenge and death, with no alternative outlet or choice in the matter. You are told that everything you are doing is wrong, but are forced to play that way when you don't want to. You can't get invested in the characters because they are either underdeveloped or you lack sympathy for them, even though the game tries to get you to sympathize, it utterly fails at it. Just about everything is done for shock value, and along with the bemoaning cycle of revenge and death, this game have zero replay value and is a slog just to get through one play-through.

I often felt that the game was pointless. What goal is worth all of this? Who should I root for? Why do characters keep choosing to kill each other when they have a way out? The game destroys the characters I cared about, both literally and psychologically, and tries to get me to like their killers. Sure, violence is bad...and that's it. The game doesn't really have much more to say. Remember when this was about surviving a post apocalypse with zombies? Yah, now people only care about what other humans are doing, which kinda misses the point of the setting.

The gameplay is fine, basically the same as the previous game. The environments are stunning, as expected. Not to use a buzz term, but it is exceptionally applicable to this: The Last of Us II is much like The Last Jedi, you can have a beautiful looking piece of entertainment, but visuals alone cannot get you invested in it when its core-- the story and characters-- are rotten.

The story is pitiful and its a shame that such a good looking game, let alone a sequel to a brilliant game, is utterly pointless when its all said and done. If you are looking for something with the same gameplay, stick with the first one and the Uncharted games. The only points this game gets is for its visuals, animation, and gameplay, which are expected to be good for a AAA game, but the story, which is the main selling point for The Last of Us II, is a disappointing, depressing, nihilistic trek that destroys what made the first game great, is drudgery to play because it makes you do things you just don't want to do or aren't invested in, and leaves you nothing in return except misery. Don't waste your money.

Overall it's not that bad of a game. A truly average one with progressive political bias, good graphics and good locations. A acceptable game, but a mock as the continuation of the first game. I would give a better rating if they changed the name of the characters and sold it as anything else but tlou.

What a sad turn this franchise got. I don't see more future for it anymore.

The originals game was driven by very believable and well written characters more so than anything else. Joel and Ellie were very relatable in a surrogate father and adopted daughter sense. Two simply trying to survive the world and leave it better than they found it. The characters were likable and very much built a bond not only with each other, but with us as the player.

Two simply trying to survive the world and leave it better than they found it. The characters were likable and very much built a bond not only with each other, but with us as the player.

Then here comes Part 2 where Joel is suddenly the bad guy, there's nothing hopeful, there is no way around making terrible choices and then being chastise for it. Then being forced to play a significant portion of the game as the character who killed him. While there is motivation for this character to have done what she did, we didn't build the relationship or understand the character like we had with Joel and Ellie in the previous game. Prior to taking control, we literally only knew her as an enemy.

Sure, the graphics and sounds are great, but it doesn't excuse the bad story and character assassinations we didn't need or want. Joel represents the fans in their eyes, he deserved a better ending and we deserved a better game.

Incredibly disappointing. The visuals are nice and the voice actors did a good job with What they were giving, but aside from that this was a waste of my time and money.

As far as the story goes I’ll stay away from spoilers. I’ll just say this: many games in the past have made me play sections of a game where the I didn’t agree with what the protagonist was doing. Games like shadow of the Colossus and the original the last of us were able to pull this off because they successfully put me inside the main characters head, made me see things from their point of view. Above everything else, I think this is where the last of us part 2 fails. It’s just twenty+ hours of horrible people doing horrible things, for reasons I can’t sympathize with.

TLOUS part 2 pushes the limits in terms of graphics which are frankly gorgeous, the musical score is beautiful and hits at the right times, voice acting is great, and actors elevate almost every line. This is expected at this point in the generation and is not why we are here. So, why is the story so shockingly bad?

Characters just kind of wander from place to place, the interactions often leave you feeling dry, characters are paper thin, and on top of this it is littered with McGuffins and plot holes. It is a constant barrage of shock value moments, that leave you scratching your head in the end. This is a failure of storytelling on almost every conceivable level. TLOUS part 2 is how Not to do a Naruto revenge plot and is a wasted opportunity. Naughty Dog wanted to hit the golf ball so hard that they end up missing and breaking their back in the process.

So I've got maybe 20 hours of gameplay put into this game. I feel the gameplay is solid but it didn't feel like it changed much from the first. The graphics truly are wonderful and breathtaking. I dont feel they added enough new infected types of enemies so that was a bit of a disappointment. To the real reason the game upsets me is the narrative direction ND took the fame. To the real reason the game upsets me is the narrative direction ND took the fame. I dont agree and feel it overlooked what made the first game special. The switching of gameplay between ellie and Abby was annoying. I didnt care for Abby as a character and I dont think she had much development and was the typical i want revenge and im upset. Very cliche to say the least. Also the ending was something I felt was not great. They could have went so many directions with this game and to me it feels like every wrong path they could have taken they did. I said feom day one that the first last of us was damn near the perfect game. It ended in such a way it didn't need a sequel and making one would definitely fall short of the first and ruin the magic the first one created. I feel that scenario I imagined has come true. So to recap. Amazing graphics. Good solid gameplay but a very lacklusyer narrative that graphics and gameplay couldn't carry. Im giving it a 2/10. The score might seem harsh but I feel ND let fans down and really ignored the things that made the first one special and to try and be out there and go for shock value only shocked in the wrong way and led to gamers joining together to review bomb the game. Also the rumored horrible work environments and early leaks didnt help. Expand

gameplay wise, great but not phenomenal.
Story wise, knowing it's subjective but for me is a no. It seems like ND is trying too hard on virtual signalling, rather than crafting a plausible story like the previous title, they have instead focus on characters that don't make any sense. And as a gay man, I feel offended by ND try to use us as an excuse to defend the flaws of the story plots.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II.
