It’s a shame that the events of second part are triggered due to the dead of an insignificant and random NPC from the first game and then we gotta play part of the game with a completely irrelevant and uninterested character just to fulfill an agenda. Politics have nothing to do with video games, we want good stories to escape reality not to be reminded of it.

Game gets a 2 for beautiful graphics, game mechanics are not really that much more impressive than the first. Story is garbage and really feels like naughty Dog was pissed that people loved Joel’s character
The sex scene was disgusting and awkward, they continue to claim that Abby is a girl, but they prob say that about Bruce Jenner too.

Naughty dog will get no more money from me ever again. Their show on HBO will prob flop harder than this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Atrocious storyline. They made Joel a glorified plot device.everything you saw Joel go through in the Last of Us was completely thrown away. They forced him to become oblivious to the world he lives in just to have a shock factor kill early into the game. Please explain to me in what world is Joel and Tommy going to walk Into and ambush like a bunch of fools? In Last of us 1 Joel clearly spots and ambush! After Abby kills Joel, How in the world does she allow HIS BROTHER and a Girl who clearly loved him to live? Did you not think that they weren't going to seek revenge like you spent all this time seeking revenge? Lastly at the end, this whole game felt useless after Ellie decides to let Abby live.... What was the whole point of this game? Tis was a cash grab, the game should of have been sequeled if this was the treatment they were gonna give it smh Expand

That being said, this game is a total waste of time for the player. The story is an -okay- concept that is delivered extremely poorly and heavy handedly. A complete assassination of the characters of the original game that ends in a mean spirited and unsatisfying way. If you enjoyed the first game for the relationship between ellie and joel, pass this one up as it has nothing to do with that. It manages to make you hate everyone in it and leaves you feeling empty after finishing it. Definitely overstays its welcome for about 15 hours too. Graphics are obviously great and gameplay is basically the same just flashier with a few new toys. Pass this one up guys, dont let the hype get to you. Not even going to go into how there are literally character skin swaps and false lines recorded just to be in the trailers to mislead the consumer about what this game is about. Naught Dog and Niel Druckman **** this one up. Big time. Expand

Funny how a little moment some people didn't even think about ended up becoming important to the story. The graphics look amazing, charakter animation, physics and effects are top notch. The gameplay itself feels a little dated and repetitive by now. I'm going to give it 2 out of 10 because i feel sorry for the developers who poured their soul into this concerning the horrendous story.

Neil Druckmann simply took and ripped out heart from the fans. They did not care about everything, the main thing is to work out the agenda of minorities. He forever destroyed the story ... even the first part will now be apprehensively remembered. He has no forgiveness.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The technical traits of the game like the graphics and the gameplay are great. The flashback of Joel singing to Ellie and the surprise he had for her birthday were beautiful moments too.

    But the storyline...

What were they thinking??? Honestly I think many people will agree with me that this whole game was a huge slap in the face from ND. The fact that the characters didn't have character development at all and they just forgot what was really important about the story. The "revenge is bad" theme could've been taught in many other ways better than this failure. We didn't see what happened to Ellie's parents, her immunity to the virus seems insignificant at this point, we couldn't see more of Joel's past in order to understand his character even more and we didn't get to see enough of Ellie's and Joel's relationship. This game had so much potential and the final product was just an excuse of a game with a more than obvious forced agenda that they forgot what really mattered. And if they tried to make me feel emphatic towards Abby they didn't succeed at all, not after how terribly this character was written. And it's no fun that I had to play as her either when I never developed a connection with her in the first place. And the fact that they used Joel to make false advertisement of the game by tricking us into believing that he was alive. Just wow. And not to mention the way he died. That was SO disrespectful to Joel's character and the fans. A character that beloved deserved better. I'm okay with that fact that he died, but the WAY he died, I'm just extremely sad and disappointed. For someone who doesn't have a real father myself and the fact that their father and daughter relationship was something I really treasured and loved and they just destroyed that by having loved characters acting out of character and seeing Ellie acting all rude towards Joel and they couldn't even have a chance to work things out between them it just leaves me heartbroken. They were the essence of the game and now that has vanished for me and I'm sure many feel the same way. I was really hoping this was going to be a beautifully crafted story but I guess the wallet was more important than actual storytelling. Maybe this will teach them that caring for their fans, story and characters is better rather than pushing a message that just comes out as forced and negative.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If any of the positive reviewers have ever played the first game with any shred of attention or passion for it then i really don't understand where they are comming from calling it great and inronically calling the story a supposed "masterpiece" ...

Whereas the first game is unforgettable due to the tone it set, combining bitter reality with a theme of hope, and well established characters that we all grew to know and love, the second game almost spits on all that was built up, and presents us a world that doesn't correspond with the theme astablished, and characters who are anything but a continuation of what they were and are. Joel was going to be killed eventually yes due to what he did at the end of the first game, but the way they did it in the second is just purely **** writing. When it happens, nobody knows who the **** Abby is, and after that we are expected to play as her to only then after 10 hours understand who she was and why (taking the fact that she is a super bland character with no real draw or motives out of the picture for a second). A proper execution would have been for us to first understand who she is, and where she is comming from and then have it lead up to the climax of confronting Joel. Combine that with the fact that Joel is established in the first game as a very mistrusting person, always seeing through traps, people's intentions and even not trustinnlg Ellie with a switchblade (out of fear she might hurt herself that is). Having him walk into a base with strangers, giving up their names with their guard fully down is the last thing he would ever do. The writer took him out of character for an opportunity to kill him off quick for shock value, and to even be able to insert his cgi self spitting on his corpse, this whole seen and that move can therefore be seen as a spit in the face of the fans by Druckman himself.

Its also just plainly bad writing to make it seem like Joel saving her life didn't matter **** to her ... if the writers had actually bothered to put some depth into it they could have made it into a longer played out internal conflict that would have made for an actual good story.

Now the story is just about 24 hours of constant revenge while simultaneously having a political agenda shoved down your throat. It doesn't belong in the world that was so cleverly thought out and brought to life in the first game. The zombies are so absent from the story now that they could just as well have been removed, so now the suspense they created in the first game is reduced to them feeling like some annoying npc part of a puzzle to get to the next cutscene

Its just a whole game long where the player has to carry out one person's revenge fantasy after the other ... there is no depth to it, just a rinse and repeat viewed from different perspective played by characters that feel like husks compared to the complexity they had in the first game... Also there is no exiting goal anymore ... no outcome to work towards, just revenge upon revenge upon revenge plot

Also the tone is nothing like what we got in the first game. The first game was already set in dark bitter reality so i don't buy the whole "but its more like reality now" argument, but the thing that kept you playing and made the game so good was the underlying tone of hope that carried the characters through, gave the story its gripping aspect and made everything feel like it mattered. At the end of the second game there is nothing you have really accomplished. No goal was reached that meant anything, we are left with some dead people, the villain walking away and being better off than the protagonist and no sense of satisfaction whatsoever. Its just 24 hours of "i kill u cuz i mad that u killed this person"

So no, the story was just a prime case of lazy, bad writing anf showed no respect for artistical integrity. Joels death was done poorly and in total disregard for who we got to know in the first game, and so was the rest of the story. Badly written, shallow, it really added nothing of value to the timeline and on top of that tried to be way to political for the environment it takes place in. At the end of this game, there is no sense of accomplishment or satisfaction, we are left with an empty feeling, wishing we'd have never walked into this game and had just let the story end where the first game did. hence the story in all its aspects really just is a bunch of horse****, and a slap in the face for fans of the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game looks good visually but the game failed to deliver because of storytelling. This game would have been a lot better if the cutscenes were organized in a way that made sense. There is no reason to introduce Abby's backstory late into the game if Joel ends up dying 2 hours into the games plot.I believe alot of people were angry at the writers for killing Joel too early and if they added his death scene near the end of the game and skipped that entire sequence entirely the games poorly written script couldve been covered up slightly. Game wouldve made more sense if they took the route Heavy Rain took with their antagonist and revealed her intentions as the game went on instead of putting it 2 hours into the game and spitting in our faces for it . Dialogue between the new characters felt unnatural and awkward giving a high school drama vibe to it. The pacing of the game didnt make any sense. All new characters were uninteresting especially Dina and Abby. The relationship between Ellie and Abby didnt add anything to the story and it was a massive downgrade from the Joel and Ellie relationship in the first game. The game looked great but the game felt empty at times. The notes were mostly useless information if it didnt have safe combinations. The hero card collectibles were whatever. The design team was let down by the writing team for sure. This game has a lot of wasted potential. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us Part 2 is one of the biggest gaming disappointments in a long time. First off nobody is mad Ellie is gay people didn't care in the Left Behind DLC. But people do care when you insert an agenda at the expense of the characters and the story. The last of us Part 2 is mainly about story. The majority of players bought the last of us part 2 in order to see what happened after the first last of us and to see what happened to Joel and Ellie. But what ends up happening is that we get to play as a character we don't like for the majority of the game. Joel is killed of in such a disrespectful way where it destroys the story afterwards. We all knew Joel would die at some point because it only makes logical sense but to have him die in such a way is disrespectful to the character. Besides that we have a boring revenge plot where it ultimately leads to nothing and we are left unsatisfied and confused at the ending. Besides that the graphics are stunning on the Ps4 but that's about it. Every thing else feels the same it works but isn't satisfactory. Overall this was a huge disappointment and if you are only in it for the gameplay and graphics you will love the game but if you are in it for a good story then you will be very disappointed. Expand

Improve the technical aspects of the game to compete with modern standards. The Last of Us 2 does neither of these things. As you have likely read, the plot eliminates the heart and soul of its source material in the first 2 hours of the game. They replace this character with lifeless, sterile stand-ins who do nothing but fill time so the player can claim they technically saw a story take place. As far as the technical aspects, the game is scarcely an improvement to the original. The graphics are updated and the combat has some new features and items, but it plays more like an expansion with mods than a standalone game. The writing in this game represents a disturbing trend in modern gaming. Similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake, we are seeing more and more studios abandon the source material in almost overt attempts to subvert audience expectations for its own sake. It is the writing equivalent of clickbait. Innovation is welcome, but subversion for its own sake is childish and demonstrates only contempt for source materials rather than passion. The dev team can be quoted as saying they intentionally made story and art decisions they believed would be the opposite of what players would want. Ask yourself, do you want to play a game that developers designed to be frustrating and unsatisfying?

Think of what you could do with $60. You could buy groceries, buy your significant other a nice gift, spend it on yourself for a day off, put it in savings, or invest it. Naughty Dog's answer to "why do we deserve your money?" is: because we will make your main character gay, make the antagonist a muscular woman, and add trans-people. Bravo, Druckmann. This is not activism. This is pandering. Learn the difference, Naughty Dog.

The only redeeming aspect of this game is the effort put into it by the programmers. 2/10
