Incredible replay value, especially on second playthrough once you have new perspectives. The story is literary and has no interest in catering to lowest common denominator expectations. Entertaining gameplay that does nothing new but works Great. The story is really really bad and makes no sense whatsoever. Lets Just remember part 1 as a contained story and forget about this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nothing super new to gameplay so I just played this to get to some other titles releasing later on (Tsushima and Paper Mario). Story felt like a slog especially the second half (couldn’t get invested in the new characters at all). It felt like unnecessary padding added to the game at some points. Positives are that I liked the somewhat open world concept and city exploration as well as the very enjoyable, challenging, rewarding boss fight with the rat king. Expand

What can I say about this game I am disappointed in the direction they went with this game.
I did not like the characters and what they did with them.
This game got me riled up angry even. that is never a good thing. does this game have any good parts sure, the gameplay is fun you will enjoy killing humans and infected. The world itself looks amazing. it's just the story that is bad

The Good: Visuals and sound are remarkable. Level design is decent. New rope mechanic is nice.

The Bad: Fist TLOU story was what made it one of the best games ever. TLOU2 story on another hand is garbage. Characters don't make me care about them at all and the ending is horrible.

This as not the franchise or time to be different. And I'm not talking about some pc nonsense about lgbt+ or muscles. The new characters are fine but the writing is poor and the characters are wasted.

Sadly eveything else is awesome from sound to graphics to gameplay. Amazing stuff. But the story and focus and pace and the feeling you have when it's all over ....is unpleasant. The game makes you feel ill. Sad...And angry but at the devs...not the clever writing.

Buy it on sale and decide for yourself. 6/10 maybe 7 but not at full price and not when the devs keep behaving like spoilt children.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This game may receive a lot of hate from its fans, and to be honest I was very angry myself seeing a character I love so much and have such a deep attachment to receive such a horrible fate. But being the big TLOU fan I am I needed to see how Ellie’s story unfolded despite how sad I was. After completing the game I can safely say with all my heart that this game is a masterpiece and I would give a score above ten if I could. If you’re a TLOU fan, please give this game a chance. I think this game depends alot on its story ( because of the lack of entertaining gameplay) so of you don't like the story I don't think this is the game for you OR if you have already seen the story or a full walkthrough on youtube I don't personally think playing the game for yourself will offer anything new. Like for example Horizon Zero Dawn , even if you know everything that happens in the story is a game worth playing by yourself because of the amazing gameplay , this one not so much because of what I said about the combat not being so often and in the end this is a video game review not a movie or tv series review anyways I'm glad I played it and I don't think this game is trash just because I don't love the story , but I definitely don't think this is a masterpiece or as good as the first one ( The first one with this combat would be amazing ) so that's why for me it's a 7-8 out of 10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. ok so i know im a bit late to the party, and the game probably dident get better from me playing it with a couple of weeks break in between each sesion, but damn this game was just not able at all to draw me in. and dont get me wrong.

so first of all this game i defenetly not a 0 a 1 or even a 2. it is atleast a 3. but at the same time it is no way near a 10 if the game had cut out about 1/3 of the game/storry and had a nother more "fair" end to it, it might had been like a 7 or at moste an 8

i dident minde Ellie being Lesbian though i felt like it added something pretty meaning less to the "main storry" of the game.
so before i start "bashing" the storry i wloud like to say that i love TLoU1 and the uncharted games with nathan drake as main character, with Uncharted 2 as on of my favorite games ever, and i will get back to this later.

Ok so the game looks great, the gameplays feels nice and all that, but that is simply not enough to make up for the storry. So if i am to be honest i wloud have loved the idear of playing as Joel again, in another grand adventure with him and Ellie, but that was not the case, but i sertainly dont minde playing as Ellie. its actualy kinda nice i would like to say. and i love the flash backs, and would even say thoes are the best part of the game. all the sime wee get to spend with joel and ellie together even though they have their problems they are trying to overcome.

But Ellie has become the strong woamn one would exspect her to become with Joel as her "mentor" and that is nice. so after playing about 10 hours as Ellie in this world that feels a bit like a open wold game but also a bit to small for it to be that. i found the maps to be a bit to big for a linear game and offen found myself runing around to loot everything/check it all out witch ad a lot of time to the game. but at the same time a bit too small.

but then the game comes to the part where it all feels like its about to end with he faceoff between Ellie and Abby and its feels like its about to end in some spectaculair way, wich it probably should have, but it does not do that. and then you have to play like another 10 hours as the villan in withc i was just thinking the whole time "sooo am i soon done with playing as Abby?"

and this i where i come back to the uncharted part. because in uncharte the lost legacy wee get a i got a very simleair experience with Nadime who is made one of the villans of uncharted 4, and i could just not make my self get any sympathie for her in lost legacy, and its the same thing with Abby.
like no matter how sad it is for her that Joel killed her father and all that she still kiled Joel.
and well on top of that they try to make one care for all her "friends" from the WLF witch just feels like a drag.

like you spend a coulpe of hours with Tess in the first game and in that time i got way more attached to her than i got to anyone of the new characters from this game. what im trying to say is that the only "main" characters from this game i care about is Ellie, Joel and Tommy. thats it, i pretty mutch never end up caring about the rest of them.

ok so after playing as Abby for way too long we finaly end up in the spot where wee played as Ellie last, and i was imagening that the game would shift over to playing as Ellie again, but instead after shooting Tommy in the head (witch he aperantly survives) it makes you fight Ellie and damn did i dislike that part even more than everything els in this game. HELL **** YES i disliked that a **** ton.

well with out spoiling too much Ellie and Dina then survives and lives a "peacefull" life for a year or 3 witch also just feel like they are draggin the game/storry out, wich then ends in Ellie leaving to finaly REALY kill Abby.

well the game redeems it self a bit with the last cutscheen with Ellie and Joel talking alone.

soo in conclusion dont by the game, watch it on youtube or someting.

i was really disaponted by it and i had keept my self away from ALL spoilers besidel like a trailer or tow.

if i were to end my review with individual score for the components of the game they wloud be:

    Graphics/music: 9/10

    Gameplay: 7,5/10

    Storry: 3/10

it has some good moments, but it has way more bad ones and that is not something the game can afford and playing at least half a game as a character you dont like is just not enjoyabel.
    i give it a 4 in total.

with it being a game to this price it needs to diliver more than 4-6 hours of good gameplay especaly from a Developer like Naughtydog. sorry

One of the greatest games of this generation.
I would have eliminated 4 or 5 hours of unnecessary gameplay, but the narrative, gameplay mechanics, graphics... are breathtaking.
I seriously can't understand the problems with the narrative, the caracteres are human 'till the bone, the development of these is great... Dark and raw. Real.

After the first game and playing as Joel through all the struggles and waiting 7 years to do it again, to not get the chance to again was a disappointment but to have his death within the first hour was even worse. Feeling emotionally flat while playing the game afterwards. Setting out as Ellie for revenge, this is a big difference to the Ellie from the first game the spark and joy is gone from her outlook on life, Rage and brutality replace them. Going through the story I enjoyed a lot of the new features, nothing better than a silencer headshot. Stalkers are a much better enemies and always felt anxious when encountering them. Exploring is great and finding all the collectibles of how people are living through the outbreak are intriguing and I do like the Dina and Ellie interactions within the open world, which when your playing day 1 in Seattle are amazing. Flashbacks with Ellie and Joel hit home just how much you miss playing as them and bring the first game vibes back. Seeing the heartbreak when Joel finally confesses what he did in the previous game and Ellie reaction and her leaving Joel. On the flip side when you flip to playing as Abby - Joel’s killer, the flashback seem to drag and this is where the game pacing lags abit. I get what naughty dog was trying to do with Abby, anyone who has had their dad killed would of course want revenge on the person. But we had already played through a 20+ hour game as Joel connected to the character waited 7 years to play as him again and to have him killed and then to play as his killer, personally not a fan and I couldn’t connect to her as a character and all of her friends are throw away characters and forgettable and I had no attachment to them at all. Maybe if this game was all around Abby and then maybe Part 3 was the Ellie/Abby face off there could’ve been abit more investment with Abby side of things. But personally I never was fully invested and was just trying to get through to where we had left Ellie. What I will say about Abby part of the game is it definitely has the bigger standout moments. The ratking boss fight in the hospital a favourite, The climb up the building and crane, dodging tommy sniper rounds, fleeing through the forest with only your melee attacks against stalkers and the fight and flee of the Scars island while burning are all standout exciting moments. Ellie has some great campaign moments too (the first encounter with the scars a personally favourite, hearing those whistles for the first time) Abby moments standout more and are more memorable which the developers maybe have Abby these better moments so people could enjoy playing as the character more. Lev I felt was thrown in to show a compassion side to Abby but this connection felt forced and didn’t really have enough time to develop a connection with them the same way Joel and Ellie in the first game. Then we play as Abby fighting Ellie, and in this part I hated it I just wanted to get through it as quickly as I could didn’t enjoy it one bit. Then we get to the cutscene and when Abby holds a knife to pregnant Dina and Ellie says she’s pregnant and Abby response is “Good” and is about to slit her throat before Lev stops her. This shows that Abby is still a monster and hasn’t change, I get she wants revenge for her friends and Owen and Ellie had killed Mel who was pregnant as well. But at least Ellie felt physical sick from her actions and was shaking, Abby was going to enjoy killing Dina, both Abby and Ellie could both be consider monsters with their brutality but at least Ellie was likeable. Then Ellie goes for revenge one last time leaving her life behind and goes through the rattlers picking up a great silenced machine gun, finds Abby tortured and has one final brutally battle against her, I personally didn’t care if Abby lived or die, I was over it the story had drained me and I was done. The first game I could pick up and replay again and again. This game I’m not sure if I could commit to playing again no matter how go the gameplay is, when the story is as depressing and unenjoyable id rather play something else for minding numbing gameplay goodness. This game is one you have to play to make up your own mind I can see why people will love it, but I’d highly recommend waiting until the price drops before committing to it, in case you end up hating it. All I can say is The last of us part 3 will be interesting if they ever make one. Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
