From a gameplay perfective its alright. Pretty much the same gameplay from the last game with a few added mechanics. If you liked it last time you will like this time.

Lastly this is by far the best looking game I've played in a console and I'm quite excited to see how it will look on the PS5.

Only the graphics unfortunately....TLOU2 Story is bad and main characters from the first game are out of characters.... even though the Story of last of us is said to be about Joel and Ellie, it isn't anymore. One thing about making game people wont feel sympathy for villain who kills the main character. nothing is good about this game except the graphics... I would have done a better job Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In this game everything is perfect except for the parts where Neil Druckmann has put his hands on.
Graphics, gameplay, sound, level design, absolutely crazy attention to details, animations and everything is literally perfect and blows my mind. The Naughty Dog team is one of my favorite game studios along with Bioware and CD Projekt Red and it raised the quality level for the whole industry once more.
The Naughty Dog team - I applaud you, you have done everything possible and impossible given the capabilities of PS4. And I'm really sorry that Druckmann has spoiled everything you worked on so hard. The score I put does not go to you, guys, it goes to him. You've deserved your 10/10 and I wish you only good.
Now the part addressed to Mr. Druckmann:
Dear Neil, I am an old fan of Naughty Dog and its games. I've played all parts of Crash Bandicoot (on original PS, PSP, PS3 and PS4), Uncharted (on PS3, PS4 and PS Vita) and TLOU. I love ND's games. Even though I am a bearded big guy, I was crying several times during certain moments in Uncharted and TLOU. I fell in love with Ellie and Joel. I was associating myself with the latter and bakc then I understood how cool it is to have a daughter (I always wanted a son). I even felt myself like a father even though I do not have kids yet (due to certain psychological traumas I have). And I liked this feeling. TLOU changed my attitude to kids and healed at least one of my psychological traumas.
While we're done with the intro, let's get to criticism:
    1) You've killed Joel in the first hours of the game. I understand that you're an artist and such, but man - that's not something that fans wanted. Something broke inside me during this scene and I hardly made myself play this game further.
    2) You are forcing LGBT and strong women agenda in this game. What for, man? Majority of this game's fans are young straight men like I am. I have respect for LGBT and women, but you're just forcing these topics in this game. Many scenes are devoted to these topics and they look completely forced. A trans person, who is trying to find him/herself during the apocalypse? A woman who looks like a man in a detailed sex scene? Women with unshaved armpits? That all is ok, but man - I DID NOT WANT TO SEE THIS. Just like the majority of players, who are heterosexual men. Companies are always trying to make their product meet expectations of their customers. Can you imagine that Apple releases only 1 model of iPhone 12 with 2.6" display because 1-3" of their customers got small hands and they require small displays? Can you imagine Apple say that all the other 97% are haters so they can go screw themselves if they don't like 2.6" iPhone?
    3) Ending. Ellie killed hundreds of people on her way to vengeance for Joel, she lost her fingers and then she suddenly realises that killing a person who killed Joel is stupid. Bravo, everyone would do the same.
You have spoiled the whole game with forcing these 2 topics, killing Joel and coming up with completely illogical and unreaslistic ending. Hundreds of talented people have been working hard and staying late to make this game perfect. But your stupid ideas ruined everything they were putting their souls in.
You should apologize before fans and everyone in ND and leave this company for good. Go to your best friend Anita and do whatever you want, but don't you ever dare to spoil something that really talented people do.

But the second half where you play as abby made me quit the game altogether. I did not care for abby or her friends. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I still can’t believe it. They killed off Joel: The central character, in the beginning of the sequel, by a character we aren't even familiar with, understand or even respect... with a rusty golf club? The miscellaneousness of the object used in the bludgeoning, makes it feel all the more random and disrespectful too.

What’s more painful is knowing how much that his death was unnecessary, and could have easily been avoided. You see, Joel was so paranoid in The Last of Us 1, that in the beginning of the game (before Sarah’s death), he wouldn’t even stop to help (in all likelihood) innocent bystanders, who were begging and pleading for his help. Another example is later in the game, when Joel and Ellie are driving, but abruptly stop in their tracks, to see an injured bystander, staggering in the road, begging for help. However, Joel is able to deduce that the bystander isn't hurt at all, and he’s actually part of a group of bandits, who are attempting to bait Joel and Ellie into an ambush. So to avoid directly engaging with the enemy, Joel accelerates his car, and tries to speed through their barricade. Which, of course failed but we all know how that turned out. This showed that Joel is perceptive, experienced, dependable, intelligent and in touch with his instincts.

But in The Last of Us 2, Naughty Dog ret-cons that, by forcing Joel and Tommy to make completely erratic, inconsistent and outright dumb character choices, by having Joel and Tommy give out their name, relation to each other and camp's location, to a bunch of suspicions strangers, in their territory… just so Joel has a reason to die… in a really arbitrary way. What does this remind you of? https://go.aws/2NpAS4T

Is this seriously what Neil Druckmann did to, arguably, one of the most beloved characters, after so many push-backs, delays and intentionally deceptive marketing? How could [those responsible] for this catastrophic sequel, be so sleazy to the people that held (and still hold) TLOU1 in such high regard? What a cruel, disappointing, anti-climactic and pointless way for Joel to go. Not even a sound, not even so much as last word, as he's bludgeoned to death by a stranger, who makes Arnold Schwarzenegger (in his day) look like a 10 year old girl.

I understand that most sequels don't match up to their predecessors (it happens and it’s not always the creator's fault)... but this time, creator decisions seem… not only *100% intentional,* but malicious. Yes, the graphics are impressive, and the action is top notch, as expected, but Joel deserved better than this (death-wise and character-wise), and so did Ellie as a matter of fact.

Why is Ellie (before the death of Joel) a mopey, lazy, withdrawn, whiner all of a sudden? What happened to that little can of whoop-ass from TLOU1? She was the perfect contrast to Joel and his jaded outlook on life… because, in spite of dire circumstances and past experiences, Ellie’s wide-eyed and adventurous attitude, brought out a side of Joel that--after the death of Sarah--was buried deep down inside him, and thought to be lost forever. I understand that Ellie would be more mature, mellowed out and sensible as teenager, but that’s no reason to strip her of all her charisma, optimism, precociousness and sense of adventure.

It seems like something happened internally, between Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann, so he just decided to take it out on the game. I mean, Joel being spat on (even if it was by another character) is so mean-spirited… And then, to add insult to injury, it’s expected of the player to insert themselves into the character responsible for the main character’s deplorable exit from the game?

This is why you should not go to professional critics, as many can be paid off to give positive reviews, which is disingenuous and often inaccurate. Go to the consumer: they are the main demographic of the game, and they (*we) are more liable to give you our honest opinion on a product, as we are the ones that pay fully for the experience. Whereas, some paid-off reviewers don’t even need to pay for, or even experience the product in it’s fullness (as intended) and can still say the product in question is “perfect” with impunity.

As much as I think a sequel to The Last of Us could work and had promise, The Last of Us 2 is a complete deconstruction of already established and beloved characters, that suffer from character motivations and personality changes that don't even make sense. In the end, the only question I have for The Last of Us 2 is... why make a ‘part two’ to your story, if characters aren’t consistent with who they were in the prequel? This is how character arcs end before the sequel starts.

    Disappointing.

Graphically, for a PS4 title, its completely unmatched. What blew me away most was the attention to detail. Walking through stores and seeing models and textures that were specifically made for that one location that you'd visit for 5 minutes. I've spent most of my time playing just zooming in and being awe struck by the details. They do what Naughty Dog does best, and makes it feel like more than a video game. You can tell that the amount of work (and money) poured into this game sets it apart from anything else you'll play.

The game shines in so many places, but it lacks in so many others. The dialogue is unbelievable , sometimes bordering on laughable. Characters we grew to know and love, turned into caricatures of themselves. The "scene" that starts you on your revenge mission didnt make me feel heartbreak, sadness, or anger, it made me feel cheated. It was just an excuse to propel the story forward, a story that at its heart is generic and lacking compared to the first. The dichotomy between Joel and Ellie was the heart of the first game. Seeing their relationship grow as they struggled forward on their mission is what made it one of my favorite video games of all time.

This game and this world are brutal and unforgiving in many ways. I found it hard to continue playing. In the first game you had a compelling story that made you want to see it to its end. Not to mention you had two interesting characters that were together for most of the game. Hearing Joel and Ellies conversations back and forth broke up the oppressive feeling of the world. In this game I didnt care about the dialogue, nor did i care about the characters. They felt token, they didnt feel like real people with real struggles to relate to. This game definitely suffers from being too long for its own good.

The gameplay is more of the same, with some minor improvements. I Enjoyed getting back into it , but after a few hours found myself dreading the combat sections again and again. Honestly the best parts of the game were just walking and discovering the environment and environmental story telling.

The thing i disliked most was the political messaging. I play video games to escape from the insanity of modern day politics and social media. Not only is it front and center here, but its forced down your throat. In the first game, Ellie turning out to be gay felt natural, it felt like it was organic and just a part of who she was. In this game they dont spend more than an hour reminding you of her sexual orientation or of those around her, through cutscenes, dialoge, and your notebook. It consumes her identity now, instead of just being a part of her.

Im really conflicted about this game, probably because the first was one of my favorites, but I felt let down. I need to give it two separate ratings. As a game, given the detail, the voice acting, animation, and over all polish, i would give it a very solid 8. As a sequel to the original? I give it a 5. You take away the polish and detail that Sony's open pockets give you, and this game is a generic let down masquerading as art.

Sadly the story, the most important thing imo, was so bad and forced and cringy that i cant give the game more than one point. Now some spoilers about that disgusting story, so pls dont read beyond this point if you havent played the game....
I feel like this game was just made to promote political stuff. Like i support different sexualities and that women are equal to man and all that but come on dont force that stuff on me when i am trying to play an action game. Things like abby looking like an absolute machine who never skips working out and supplements in a time with extreme food shortage and all that is just pathetic. And Mel jumping from a solid 3 Meters as pregnant women like its the most casual thing made me cringe so hard. They also killed almost every male character (mostly by women) and not a single female character was killed by a man. And yeah letting Joel die like that and then frocing me to play that joke of a Character called Abby to force me to sympathize with her made me almost quit the game. There are still so many things to complain about but i dont want to waste any more time on that trash and neither should you.
    My opinion: a generous 1/10

People giving it a very low score are doing so based on Joel being killed off, which is just ridiculous. It was obvious from the end of the first game that the Fireflies etc were going to be seriously pissed off and hell-bent on hunting him down.
This game is an absolute masterpiece, and on the Pro in HDR is just ridiculously pretty (or gruesome, depending on the scene!). The plot twists and the emotion from them is second-to-none. If you loved the first game, or loved anything by Naughty Dog, just buy it. Trust me. Time to start a New Game+ and get the Platinum.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
