Now, leaving that statement, let's talk about the game on a simple way, without spoilers: Great graphics, lame design in some areas, absence of a OST, more cinematics than gameplay. For another games it would be enough for a 6/10 or 7/10, but NO for TLOU.

2 reasons why I say it: 1-Legacy, which they ruthlessly destroyed. 2-Fake News! It is obvious that they paid and extorted different "gamer journalists" to evade this disaster, and they failed, NOW THE TRUTH IS KNOCKING ON THEIR DOORS.

And you... do you see the elephant in the room?

    - HORRIBLE STORY that disrespects beloved characters from the 1st game & ruins the entire experience!

Why would Naughty Dog think it was a genius idea to play as Abby?! Imagine playing RDR2 as Micah after killing Arthur...HELL NO! You will never see a single penny from me ever again Naughty Dog! Other than the **** story, graphics are beautiful & flash backs were amazing...that was the game we deserved. So fn disappointed, wish this game game never happened honestly Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A huge, huge, huge middle finger to those who fell in love with the original game.

I couldn't even finish the game, and I tried so hard to. I usually don't completely quit games without giving it a ton of more chances, but this sequel just didn't click for me.

The pros are obvious—fantastic mocapping, animations, voice acting, and environment building. I also actually enjoyed the small additions to the combat, including the ability to lie flat on your stomach, craft arrows + bomb arrows, and leave scent trails for the dogs. However, even these pros couldn't get me over the jarring flaws.

Joel dying is what immediately made me think, "Damn. Maybe I should've listened to the criticisms before I bought this." He dies 30 minutes into the game, and Jesse dies quickly too. NOT good for those who really thought the main protagonist of the first game would play a physical role in the second game. The whole plot of the game also revolves around Ellie chasing after Abby and seeking revenge, but decides against it in the ending, leaving Abby to go free. Unsatisfying and confusing.

Playing as Abby didn't make me feel sympathy for her. I already hated her for killing Joel, and her backstory was part of such a minuscule detail from the first game that I'm baffled they even decided to focus on it. Abby's route was insanely boring and during that point of the game I quit. Her friends were boring. Her attitude was boring. I couldn't feel sorry for her even as she cried on the floor in front of her dad, who, not to mention, held a blade up to Joel first before he shot him. During the first game, we learned of the deep reasoning behind Joel's selfish behaviors, and we sympathized with him. By showing Abby as an angry murderer before showing her as a fellow human with her own drive and reasonings, it really makes players unable to give her any space to tell her side of the story.

The characters are out-of-character very frequently. Joel is a molded survivor with the ability to sniff out when something is off. It didn't seem realistic for him to so easily trust Abby and then, in the end, get brutally killed. Ellie is also not the happy-go-lucky girl from the first game. She is moody and apathetic. It didn't feel like I was controlling the same girl.

The game also seemed to switch its focus onto something completely new instead of what The Last of Us was built on. The story often revolved around human killers and a civil war between the Wolves and the Seraphites instead of the infected and CBI. It felt like the civil war was a bigger part of the plot than the infected.

The atmosphere just wasn't the same to me either. I can't explain that very well. Maybe it's the lack of Joel. I actually cried during the museum flashback with Ellie and Joel because it was so much like the first game, a striking contrast compared to adult Ellie's adventures. My Listen Mode didn't work, like, at all; could never see the silhouettes of enemies in different rooms. I also didn't like the lack of nail bombs. I've read so many alternatives to this game's plot and it makes me sad to say the majority of them were really better than the canon plot we got. I was really hoping the clips of Abby in the trailers were actually Anna. That might've been a lot more interesting.

The last of us 2 has taken the beloved characters of the last of us and totally disregarded the characters they built, and disrespected the main character we played as in the first game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can’t express how mad I am. This community waited 7 whole years for this game, and while the gameplay and graphics were amazing, the most important part, the story. Left me crying, but for all the wrong reasons. They took an INCREDIBLE series, and destroyed it. You play as Ellie loving a happy life with family, and people she loves in the small town of Jackson, Wyoming. And everything is well, until not even 2 HOURS into the game, Joel’s head gets bashed in with a golf club. And this community isn’t mad BECAUSE Joel dies. It’s how, he rescues a stranger and gives away his name, where he lives, and follows this stranger back to her base where all her friends are. Turns out these people had a bone to pick with Joel, and they torture him with a golf club, and beat him to death. Now having seen Joel be such an unforgiving, cold hearted man in the first game, who trusted no one but Tess and eventually Ellie, it’s so hard to believe he would do something so insanely stupid. And if you think that’s where it ends? You couldn’t be more wrong. To put it short Ellie goes halfway across the country to kill the girl who killed Joel, Abby. She proceeds to kill all of Abby’s friends and eventually tracks Abby down. She gets the crap beats out of her. And we skip ahead about a year. Tommy can barely walk and can only see out of 1 eye, Maria split with Tommy, Ellie lost her friend Jesse, her surrogate father Joel and many others along the way. But now she has a family, as Dina (her girlfriend who travelled with her to Seattle with) was pregnant. But when Tommy comes back with a lead, she ditches everyone she loves to travel halfway across the country again this time to California to kill Abby. She gets there, fights her way through a prison and has a final fight with Abby, to which when she has the upper hand, Abby bites 2 of Ellie’s fingers off and instead of ending it there, and making everyone she’s lost, and EVERYTHING she’s lost not go in vain, she lets Abby live. And when she returns to her farm home with Dina, Dina and the child JJ, are nowhere to be found. In the end Ellie lost everything Jackson, Joel, Dina, the child, her revenge on Abby, Tommy, Maria, and her 2 fingers thus eradicating her ability to play guitar which is the only thing she can remember Joel by. And not to mention we play half this game as Abby, the ANTAGONIST just so we could have 6 more hours of play time. Like I said before this game had me crying for Joel Ellie, and everyone. But for all the **** wrong reasons the entire game is for absolutely nothing. And.... I have no words. I don’t, this community waited so long just to get a **** story, and leaving Ellie depressed, unless you want good gameplay and a horrible story with so many jumps from present to past don’t buy this game. Don’t waste your money and 20 hours of your life like I, and so many others did. You could get a better experience by watching it on YouTube. But all we can do know is hope that someone at ND fixes this. Other than that, I have nothing to say, I personally just finished the game and I need a break, I won’t be sleeping much tonight. All I’ll be able to think about is how sad I am that they ruined everything about this game. Good night everyone, and let’s hope this was all just a bad dream. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The most visually beautiful game i've ever played, that's ruined by the worst story i've ever seen.

I will start by saying this game is absolutely beautiful. The studio did an amazing job building this world, the ambience is amazing, the lighting is amazing. Huge respect for the people who built the visuals.

My problem here is with the unbelievably BAD and LAZY writing. Starting with Joel's death. The way it's done is absolutely horrible. The character we all loved from the first game dies a completely pathetic death that doesn't reflect the character. Joel spent more than 20 years surviving in this world, and falls for a trap that anyone would see from miles away. It's not the fact that he died, but how they've done it: It happens in the first 2 hours of the game, with barely any screentime to the character, and it is done by a character we don't know anything about.

The game just reaps out your emotional attachment to it, so fast, you just doesn't care about it anymore. There were a million better ways to do it. You can easily build up the main character's death in a way that we can have an emotional attachment to it, and to make Ellie's revenge have an emotional meaning. But it's not how it's done here.

If the game had built up Joel and Ellie's story before killing Joel, it would make so much more sense, and i, as a player, would be way more invested in Ellie's revenge. It's hard to believe they had 7 years to come up with a narrative, and still they did the worst thing they could have done.

We then proceed to play more than 10 hours as Abby, a character that we absolutely hate for doing that to Joel. The game tries to justify Joel's death with 10 hours of WASTED TIME going through flashbacks and useless sections of the game. It fails miserably in trying to make you understand her side of the story.

In short, the story is poorly written and VERY disorganized. The narrative is totally out of order, there's no character development for the main characters.

Dina has no development whatsoever, and Jesse is barely in the game. Jesse's death was just IGNORED by all the characters, he's never mentioned again after he dies. Manny is another flat character that you just doesn't care about.

In the end, Ellie's revenge meant nothing. Joel died, Jesse died and don't get to see his son, Tommy is disabled, Ellie lost 2 fingers, her baby and her girlfriend. And Abby just walks away, successfully avenging her father, who's just a NPC from the first game.

As an absolute fan of the first game, i am sad with what Naughty Dog has done to this sequel. They had 7 years to build the perfect sequence to the masterpiece that was the first one, but they managed to make a completely garbage storyline. Looks like it was done in the laziest way possible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game represents the beginning of the agony this beloved industry will suffer if we let it to. It is used as political weapon. The wining of massage over fiction quality. About the game itself, it does a terrible job trying to make us feel empathy towards the majority of the new characters, specially the new protagonist abby, as it tell us her motivation after she wins our hate. As for the original characters, the game deconstruct them with the only purpose of making us realize they deserve every bad thing they suffer, expect for the new cast. They act and feel like completely different personas. The journey is a cliché with an unsatisfying end. It is forced, its moral is empty. The story will constantly try to tell you you’re walking a wrong path, that what you’re doing is wrong, but at the same time it forces you to do all those horrible things. It spit in your mouth and demands for an apologize. As for the gameplay: the mechanics are something you already experienced on the first entry but in an almost perfect technical peak, being the “body to ground” mechanic the most interesting of all and a very useful one most of the times. The jump button goes from useless to ridiculous. The combat is extremely fluid and realistic. The AI is remarkable and works very well, but it can fell in being played by repeating the same movements and trick. The enemies won’t react realistically about allies being attacked and killed in front of them. The lack of new enemies is disappointing indeed, it focuses to much on human enemies and factions. The weapons are very reduce (six per character) and the customization is not as complex as it seems. In general the game will show you everything it can offer in the first hours, falling into a repetitive gameplay. As for the graphics and level design: It is sublime, the graphics (although many effects like the lightning and volumetric fog are missing in the retail) are as beautiful as you can expect. The environments are an achievement in artistic design as they truly make you feel in a world where nature is reclaiming civilization’s graveyard. The covers are way more organic and don’t look or feel as artificial as they did in the first game. This sequel wasn’t required, we didn’t needed. We were lied many times in the pre-release, and we were disrespected by ND team for not agreeing with well based concerns about its development. The legacy of the first game was killed of in a pathetic way of subverting expectations. In few words, the mo st important aspect of this title is its story, and it’s full of flaws, everything else is good and beautiful. But it’s not a 10/10 masterpiece, that i’m afraid is out of discussion. Expand
