Wow. Naughty Dog did it again. Not only is this a worthy follow up to the first game, they managed to out-due the first one and blow me away. If you loved the first one, you can breathe, relax and buy this game with confidence. Don’t worry about all of the negative reviews. Most of the angry reviews are because Naughty Dog is “forcing” their “liberal agenda” on the player because the main leads are female and happen to be gay. Apparently the extreme violent killings of hundreds of NPCs isn’t an issue, but playing as a woman who happens to be gay...that’s where bigots draw the line... Expand

The best game of this generation, I especially loved the sound design during Abby's sex scene : the subtle sounds of Owen balls slamming against the muscular ass of Abby were recreated masterfully.

Let's not forget the animation department for their beautiful depiction of her women **** truly a breathtaking scene that I'll never forget !

Expand

By far one of the best games I've ever played. The best graphics, a great and entertaining gameplay. And the story is not bad, the only problem is that people simply get mad because it doesn't go the way they wanted. It has some flaws, but definitely don't deserve the hate.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sequel everyone has been waiting for, end up being the sequel no one wanted.

That's how I feel, I did not expect this story to be told. Why? mostly because a whole game based on the "cycle of violence/revenge/forgiveness" (and not going at it the right way) and not focusing on the zombies, cure, or a better world building, well kinda a miss for me. But still very good and a rare experience.

What's my problems with this sequel? The characters mostly. Abby (/Owen). I don't hate her. I get what was the point of her story, why we played her. I do, but, it just doesn't work for me.

Could be because, we play her after 15 HOURS, you know when we are very invested in Ellie (can't be compared with how we get play Ellie in the first game). Maybe because we play her after a big cliffhanger, and get back to it after hours. Maybe because we see her kill and torture XXX. Or maybe because her and Owen story felt bland, boring, long? I get it, we need to sympathize with them. But not like this (I did like Abby with Lev and Yara, it was interesting).

And we spend quite a few hours playing Abby, when other characters get almost nothing. Dina, Tommy, Jesse and Maria.

Ellie loses everything, even herself (PTSD, not explored or talked about) for revenge. In this game the characters don't talk a lot about their feelings or what happened, it's missing, we have visuals but... Even worse, if you miss an entry in the journal, you might not understand correctly Ellie.

That being said, it's still an amazing experience. The gameplay is really good when given the opportunity. The graphics are a big step up, for me, it's the character animations that I liked the most. Again story not perfect for a few things, but for the rest it was good. The flashbacks could have been handled better, sometimes it was frustrating, more so with Abby. And lots of options to play how you want in the settings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I usually don’t share my opinions online, but I think I need to write some stuff.

I‘ve never felt so unsatisfied yet entertained at the same time.

    MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD :(

I just don’t know how to describe my feelings after finishing this game. It’s definitely something else. THE LAST OF US PART II has major pacing issues though. Even if you (for whatever reason) can sympathize with the second playable character Abby, there’s still this major cliffhanger lasting for several freaking hours, maybe just to make you feel not so bad about beating up Ellie to a pulp in the concluding theatre scene.

This is borderline pretentious BS and after finally playing the really great Uncharted4 like farm-„epilogue“, thinking you’re finally about to get the closure you’re craving for, they take you for even another round with absolutely no conclusion.

And despite all this „extra“ content being very well presented and atmospheric (even the Abby levels are just mind bending) I just had a really not so fun time playing anymore. This ending made me so sad and I really don’t know if I ever want to play the Abby parts ever again in my entire life, after knowing how all of this plays out.

I played the Ellie part of the game almost entirely walking (just slightly tilting the stick) and exploring every corner until this major screw up point in the story and the overall game deserves so much better, but just by forcing you to play as Abby for this fatiguing long amount of time, I felt the urge to speed run her part. Skipping and rushing several Clicker and Scars encounters. I’m simply not able to like this later story arch with absolutely no satisfying conclusion.

There are major emotional, partially optional, scenes to discover, which jerked the tears out of me in no time and I’m very thankful for that ND. Witnessing the growing affection between Ellie and Dina was one of the most motivating things for me and I really adored the museum flashback with Ellie and Joel.

The overall attention to detail in this game is awesome. The gore effects really treated the 80s Robocop-violence fan boy in me. Better blood pools than Stranglehold (finally) and partially dismemberment of the enemies like in the good old Soldier of Fortune days. The gore is even quite shocking from time to time, which really fits the overall gritty tone of the game.

Another great thing I’d like to point out are the multiple accessibility options in this game. I played the game in german and our voice actors over here did an overwhelmingly great job. And you’re able to modifiy nearly any aspect in the difficulty settings seperately, which led to an overall less frustrating experience than in the first game.

Despite this another major thing that’s bothering me is the fact, that gun modifications just don’t f'ing matter. The workbenches are presented in a very cool fashion, but don’t think you’re able to stash a second full spare mag after crafting the extended magazine. Why? Really! Why?
Only one spare mag seems a bit little to begin with, but I get that this would inevitably lead to balancing issues. But in the end I only upgraded my weapons for the visuals. Pointless. Period.

I guess the element of choice is really lacking in the THE LAST OF US PART II. They really could’ve let you lose to Ellie in the theatre or just let her shoot Abby in the head in Santa Barbara or just f'ing stay at the ranch and get over it. I really don’t know how ND is going forward from here on with this franchise, but I wish them all of the best, despite all the negativity surrounding their product at the moment.

This game is still a solid 9 for me (I usually don’t judge in numbers). I really liked the combat mechanics, the brutal firefights and melee animations. Scouting the first few levels very carefully, picking up notes and solving a few puzzles. I had great fun with it. I cannot overlook the crazy amount of effort, put into the overall artistic craftwork of this piece of art and ND probably should be proud of their universe, since gamers seem to be pretty involved.

Stand by your vision, but also do NOT forget about your fans!

Oh and you really could’ve added one or two Nirvana songs for Ellie to play on the guitar ;)

I'm about fifteen hours in - a few things need to be said:

    - Ignore the votebombing campaign. A huge amount of the hate it's getting is simply for having gay characters in the lead. The people hating on the game are conservatives with small minds who clearly haven't played it. - For those people who are SINCERELY disappointed in the darker, brutal turn the story takes all I can say

    - Ignore the votebombing campaign. A huge amount of the hate it's getting is simply for having gay characters in the lead. The people hating on the game are conservatives with small minds who clearly haven't played it.

    - For those people who are SINCERELY disappointed in the darker, brutal turn the story takes all I can say is...did you play the same The Last Of Us 1 that I did? Joel's daughter is killed in the first hour of the game and he goes on to murder hundreds upon hundreds of human beings. Then he makes a deeply morally questionable decision at the end of the game.
This is not a game series for people who like happy endings. And if you're surprised by the turns this game's story takes that's a GOOD thing, no? Did you not want to be surprised?
One comment I read here on Metacritic in the User Score section summed up the stupidity of most of the criticism this game's getting: it said:

"THE DEVELOPERS IGNORED THE COMMUNITY AND JUST WROTE THEIR OWN STORY!!!"

I mean...what do you say to someone who thinks that way? Someone who is so entitled and spoiled and small minded that they believe they have some divine right to dictate the direction of someone else's story in someone else's game?

Okay, that out of the way, I can get onto the game itself. I'm going to admit that I was not a huge fan of the first game. I thought it began and ended brilliantly, in fact I think it has easily the greatest ending of any game ever made - the ending is up there with the ending to some of the greatest films ever made too.
But the bulk of the game itself wasn't enjoyable for me. It was too slow, the stealth was too laboured and predictable and the gunplay was dull. I'm a huge fan of ND games, Uncharted 2-4 remain some of my all-time favourites, but TLOU was a rare ND game that just didn't click with me.
For some reason I'm finding its sequel much, much more enjoyable. First of all, the simple act of moving around the world is greatly improved. You are quicker, more nimble, the mantling animations are fluid, you can climb quickly and easily...
A great example of how much care has been taken over making movement responsive and satisfying is the way your horse controls. Think of how many games have horses in them...now think of how utterly atrociously difficult it is to control those horses: eg. Red Dead 2, with its painfully slow, tank-like horses, or Shadow of the Colossus with the infuriatingly capricious Agro, Roach in The Witcher 3, etc., etc... Yet your horse in TLOU 2 is an extension of you. It turns on a dime, it accelerates beautifully, it moves from a trot to a gallop to a stop with such fluidity I was a bit startled when I first controlled it. This is the Naughty Dog difference: the sheer care that's gone into making small things as good as they can possibly be.

When I reviewed Uncharted 4 I called it 'Luxury Gaming', simply because of the lavishness of the enterprise, the absurd amount of care and attention that had gone into every single component of the game. And while TLOU 2 doesn't have the same obvious graphical splendor and jaw-dropping scenery as Uncharted 4, it has had just as much, maybe more, attention paid to it.
It's visually magnificent, although the narrative forces it into less obviously attractive locations than other big hitters in this department like Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead 2 and the aforementioned Uncharted 4. It controls beautifully. ...And the combat...the human versus human combat...bloody hell. I've just started facing other humans, and it feels substantially different from other action games in this regard. It feels much more tense. A single shot can kill you, a single shot can kill them...the enemies shout to each other throughout, threaten you, you can try and outflank them, and you have your heat-vision-y sense powers, but apart from that it's desperation and adrenaline.

I'm hoping the game keeps up this level of quality, in its gunplay and in its stealth, and so far this feels like its cribbed a lot of valuable lessons from Uncharted 4(which Neil Druckmann, director of TLOU 1 and 2, also directed) simply in how to make the game more...well, fun. More purely enjoyable. How to make stealth and combat more satisfying. So far it feels like they've succeeded, and I get the same sugar rush from the action elements in this game that I got from Uncharted 4, only there's a good deal more depth to this.

I am interested in seeing where the plot goes. But it's the gameplay that so far is impressing me most.

Based on my impressions of the game up until now this is a substantial improvement on the first game - more satisfying in every single area. I was not expecting much because I'd had such a hard time with the first game, but it has been riveting so far. Tense, dramatic, with a forward momentum propelling the player forward. It's daring, with the unique 'luxury gaming' touch that you only get with ND.

También señalar que ha bebido mucho de Uncharted 4, sobre todo en las escenas de acción.
No le doy un 10 por discrepancias con el hilo

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
