Hate how they deal with the characters not respecting them at all just anyone you start to like or attached to it will die instantly, can't of course talk about Joel's death and how bad it is am not saying that he can't die its reasonable for him to die but not in that way and not in the beginning of the game like this, the story is poor and doesn't make sense at all, letting you play with Abby about 10 hours that character that killed Joel is crazy and letting you fight Ellie and show Ellie as a villain, and an ending that doesn't make any sense and open so that you can make part 3 ???and i hope you don't, the only things that i liked is the graphics and the gameplay and the sounds are done pretty good and the realism in the weapons and i loved the crafting table and how detailed it was loved the face capture of the characters and how they move is really realistic Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My most wanted video game this year, so far...turned to be very disappointing. If we're regarding technical part of naughty dog's product, there are no questions, the game is wonderful, competing with red dead redemption 2's detailing level and graphics. I'm not lying, it's a technical masterpiece. But, regarding the story, i have several questions. What happened to female characters, they're all so ugly, with male-like bodies. I'm not sexist, but it looks weird.
Also, what happened to straight-white males protagonists, they are missing. Also i'm not sexist, but it's discrimination, story runining choice.
In which point of game developement, naughty dog choose to kill Joel and replace him with a weird trans antagonist. This literally destroyed me. Killing the best protagonist of all time, how it's a good choice?
Okay, i'll throw my right-wing education, and ask another question: What happened to the story, it's awful, where's is the excellent the last of us part 1 plot? Okay, but what happened to critics score, why it's higher than first one? Or all critics are just left'wing liberalists that don't give a damn about the actual game, posting payed reviews just to support their ideology? To show that i'm right, look at ign us's review, and highly conservative ign japan's review. I think the second was more trustful. Last few words.
Naughty dog made a game full of liberal, radical feminist, lgbt propaganda, instead of making an actually good product. P.S. I wasn't able to hold my anger until the end of my gameplay, it's just heartbreaking, and i'm hopping that metacritic will not take down my review

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The only good about this game are the graphics, animation and feel of gameplay but what made the frist game so great was the story which got totaly butchered in Part 2 joal gets killed like a total idiot and tommy also acts as if he never encountered any steanger gives away all information just like that which gets joel killed, and Ellie is turned to a completly psychopath in emo coating, joel taught elie bever to seek revenge and she litterly spits on everything she learnd from him.
Not gonna lie Abbys part was and felt more human and in touch with the previous story than ellies part which is sad, ellies part litterly made me cheer for Abby, ellie was just annoying and over all the game goes so much into griddyness that it is not real enjoyable to play after a few hours as ellie which is the first time i felt like that playing a video game, this could have been executed much better with a much better outcome but no it also just showed how rigged rating systems are and awards.

No need to lie and say that the graphics in the game went to some new level, this is the same console level that we could see in the Uncharted. No need to lie about the "new innovative gameplay" —it's still mediocre and dull. A game without a good story and characters turned into a disgusting fake. And the storyline with the murder of the protagonist of the last part at the very beginning is the height of stupidity and an attempt to cause unnecessary emotions.
I would put more, but paid reviews of gaming publications completely discouraged.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm saying this as someone that pre-ordered the game, played it, finished it, and never touched it again. Lets get the good out of the way first, because this game has a lot more bad that it should and its a shame. 1. The graphics are some of the prettiest I've seen on the PS4. I have the first release of the console and the game still manages to run extremely well. 2. The gunplay is great. I enjoyed the gunplay in the first game, it having more weight than any third person shooter at the time. 3. The music. Gustavo Santaollala has always done a great job with the Last of Us series. From the disturbing and mysterious opening song of the first game to the soundtrack that plays while travelling Seattle. The music in this game is a must listen if you have the time and desire to. Now let's get on to the bad, and I'll be here for a while. Again, lets get the obvious out the way, the story. Where do I begin? Joel having his skull under par 2 hours into the game? The bland and uninteresting side characters that go along with Ellie and Abby? Abby's half of the plot being flawed and extremely boring? All of these being major problems with this game. Joel was an extremely beloved and cared for character in the first game, but in this, he is used as motivation in the plot and is in the rest of the game via flashbacks. A great and compelling story is driven off of the actions of a character. In this game, the characters are driven off of the story. Abby is the protagonist of the B plot. She is part of a group called the W.L.F. The Washington Liberation Force. Her half of the story consists of side missions and tedious quests for the conclusion of finding Ellie and almost beating her to death. She is such a shallow and terribly written character. Her motivations consist of: finding her ex in a renovated aquarium, then taking it up the ass. Helping a Seraphite girl get her arm cut off to save her, then having the same girl die of getting shot brutally. Then, taking a shemale to California to find the remaining group of Fireflies. Pacing is a super important part of any story, from slow dramatic pauses made to make the audience feel tense, like in Inglorious Basterds, to the fast paced story made to try to grab all the information as quick as possible, like Baby Driver. This simple thing can turn a game from super boring to super interesting. Ellie's part of the story is decent. Being the start of the game, the A plot, this is where a bunch of features need to be introduced. Ellie's story is mostly about the revenge plot of TLOU 2. This is where you have characters like Dina and Jesse. Jesse is so forgettable I had to google who the hell he was. He was a fling of Dina's. They were a thing, broke up, then Dina started dating Ellie. When Dina was dating Jesse, he made her pregnant, thus causing that plot. Ellie's camp is in a theater which funnily enough, the play that was supposed to be going on is on my birthday. That's not a complaint, I just thought it was cool. This is the half of the game where you can kill the pooches. Neil said that you were supposed to feel something every-time you killed a dog or it's owner, but I didn't feel anything. I don't know if it was because I'm a cold hearted bastard or it wasn't compelling enough, but there wasn't any emotional reality in those optional sections. The ending is incredibly disappointing. From the low stakes ending to the downer epilogue, it just was not as good as the last game's ending. Ellie loses two fingers in the fight, losing her only connection to Joel, being able to play the guitar. Except she didn't because of she is talented enough in music, she can learn to play it left handed. Overall, the game's story was terrible and it deserves a lower rating than what the paid off critics gave it. Overall, 3/10. Expand

Simply put, it doesn't deserve Game of the Year: the graphics are actually atrocious, I have taken several screenshots to reflect that; textures of leaves, plants, roots, tiles, books, some electronics are literally DRAWN and 1-dimensional, reminiscent of Ps3 days. The lighting is terrible, Metro Exodus pulled off Ray Tracing, how the hell did Naughty Dog who brag about their graphics not manage to at least have better lightning??? The game is not even open world and there are a dozen of better looking games like Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War (2018), Days Gone (which is a much better version of this game), Metro Exodus --- like how is TLOUP2 not even 4k? If you are sitting there with a 48', 50', 55'' or larger screen, I feel sorry for you.

Gameplay, boring, an absolute chore. Somehow I can't believe that after spending years at a camp, that the characters will only have 1 or 2 bullets in their inventory, and the fact that melee weapons break so easy is hysterical. Like sure, I get that it increases the challenge, but this isn't the early 2010's where games can't find better ways to increase the challenge. A steel pipe or wrench simply won't snap in half after hitting a decaying corpse/clicker.

    Sound: no complaints

Characters, well everyone knows the plot at this point, and I cant say I agree with what the game director thought was a good idea to kill a certain character, even staff at Naughty Dog questioned this. Stupid decision where the game designer tries too hard to be like Michael Bay or Ridley Scott. This is a game, we grow to love characters, we want to be able to control them, not have them and all the hours we spent on them, eliminated from the game leaving us only a teenager to control, like WTF.

3/10 OR 30/100 - I wonder which reviewers PlayStation paid to give this game a good rating. Because it certainly did NOT deserve to win GOTY over Ghost of Tsushima, Hades, Doom Eternal -- games that actually went all out with quality and didn't cut corners or completely ruin the plot.

The game has a very bad narrative, characters and silly cutscense, regardless the gameplay and the enviroment are amazing and perferctly designed but Niel has ruined the entire game because of the following: 1- feminisms: like the most important thing to girls is to be as strong as men.
2- sexuality: It is not an important thing to know the sexuality of the characters.
3- the ending is the worst ending you could have seen, Ellie has killed many people and killed a pregnant woman and in the other side Abby has trained and became like a man just to avenge for her father and she did what she wanted and the only threat to her is Ellie and neither of them killed the other.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 is a true testament to how not to make a sequel for a game. While gameplay received better animations and such, it mostly remained the exact same and becomes monotonous and predictable over the 25+ hour story. While it’s not bad, you'd hope for a much bigger upgrade or overhaul of crafting and other gameplay mechanics, but many remained completely untouched. But the gameplay isn’t what causes this game to be a failure in my opinion, because that’s not what people really play TLOU for anyways. People play for the characters and story, which is nothing short of disappointing and misguided in this game. The utter lack of respect toward previous or even new characters prevents the player from getting invested in them, and the game fails to utilize the one relationship the player was already invested in going into the game. Instead they demolish that relationship, and never really show it getting back to anything of what it used to be. Most other characters in this game are stagnant and replaceable, and while they have good performances, fail to make me care about them in a meaningful way. That is, until they get brutally murdered on a quest for revenge. By the end of the game I was so numb to violence nothing shocked me anymore, and I’m not sure what the game was even trying to say through all this violence and misery. What I do know is that I feel devastated for Ellie and deep hatred for another character. I truly hope Naughty Dog lets this franchise die in the pit they dug for it. I absolutely loved the first game, but this train wreck wants me to feel depressed for nothing. Some of the lessons it tries to teach seem so stupidly simple I asked myself if I was even hearing it right. All I can hear now is the ringing in my ears after listening to one of my favorite games get pillaged and massacred in the name of “Subverted Expectations”. Do not recommend. Expand

Gave it a 3 just for the gameplay. The reason TLOU part one is among the best video games ever made was the connection and attachment towards the characters, the emotional journey that leads to the enjoyment and bittersweet ending of it. While in Part two.. well, I don't even know what to say. Damn you naughty dog, and damn you Neil.

Everything about the game is great - living up to "Naughty Dog Quality"... except the garbage plot. The plot/pacing/character development are so bad that it ruins the experience - it's giving me mass effect 3 flashbacks. You could have kept all the same messages and had a much better game if you had better pacing and character development (even just moving the order of things around). Some much of the great game play is ruined by the frustration of the previous cutscene that you can't enjoy it - and to those saying hey that empty unhappy, everything was meaningless feeling you get when you finish was the goal, "the game is supposed to have that"...why would I want my video game to end like that? Sad and frustrated sure, deep meaningful tragedy is powerful - not what we got here. Try and justify the experience all you want, but I would have been happier not having the Last Of Us world ruined for me by playing this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Its clear to me a lot of talent went in to making this. The visuals and animations are top notch. The voice acting and sound design is great. This is where the game earned its 3 points for me. But the gameplay is forgettable at best. Still none of those elements are the reason you play Last of Us. You play, for better or worse, for the story. I think all those elements would have been better served by watching a collection of the cinematics, which you could experience for free on Youtube. I do not see any value in playing this game.

So what do I think of the story? The story is a collection of plot devices loosely tied together with poorly written dialogue from mostly new unlikable characters. All the while making previously established likable characters into unlikable characters. The plot points, though controversial, aren't the problem. Its the execution. Its everything in between. Thinking back on the first game the only really interesting plot point comes at the end with Joel deciding to save Ellie. The rest of the game is just a road trip and a cure for the zombie apocalypse. Nothing particularly exciting or groundbreaking by itself. Its the moments in between -the character interactions- that makes the Last of Us 1's story so great. And those little moments fail here. This fails at the most critical level where the first game succeeded.

My recommendation? Don't be like me. Don't waste the 60 dollars. Watch it on Youtube for free and be disappointed for free.
