I wish I hadn't paid full price for this game, I should have waited until it dropped half the price.

I will probably forget about this game in a month like it never happened, and I would definitely not recommend it to anyone. That's too bad because i really loved the first game.

What can I say that has not already been said. After the amazing TLOU we get something that technically amazing - graphics and gameplay (although very samey and more noticeable on 2nd play through) but the Story is the biggest let down. An extremely good-looking game with tight controls and a fun gameplay loop that suffers from writers too concerned about specific characters and not enough about others. An example: Jesse, a new character that (contrary to the opinion of many) I actually quite liked and was made out to be a very important part of the story was killed, and nobody gave a damn. The ending was clearly the way it was exclusively to ensure the game could have a sequel if they so wanted to, which is alright, but considering Ellie killed hundreds of people just to get a shot at Abby, had her on the ropes, then decided to let her go? **** writing. Certainly doesn't deserve lower than a 5 however, the critics are smoking some seriously dank **** if they think this was a masterpiece like the first installment.

Play it for yourself, it is certainly worth a one time playthrough, you won't want to new game though.

Do we really expect anything else when considering the level of **** we have had over the last 10 years.

The message that violence and vengeance is a circle that will eventually come back around to haunt you is beaten into the gamer relentlessly, so much so that one doesn't feel fulfilled or enlightened by the end of the game but physically and mentally exhausted. The games setup for improving guns and skills is made to encourage replaying the game but the thought of suffering through the monotonous repetitive flashbacks and multiple endings is painful to consider and ultimately left me shelvingn the game for what could be a long while. I think 6/10 is fair. Nice try, e incredible graphics and fluid nature of the hand to hand const are not enough to raise this score. Expand

Level design is great, guns are fantastic represented and the gameplay is just freaking amazing. I'm giving a 6/10 because the history is a total nonsense. First you encounter with a grown Ellie, wich is not the Ellie from the first game because she lost any piece from her amazing personality, then Joel died at the first 2 hours, not giving you any explication. All Ellie's history was right, then Abby history, I will say it clear, no one gives a **** and the final is the top of the nonsense. If you don't care about the history you will love it. If the same story had been structured in a much different way I think this game could reach the 9 and 10 that Naughty dog usually deserves, but unfortunately when you betray the characters we love by them acting in ways that go against who they are...you leave the door open for a story that cannot connect in the way it was envisioned for the audience. Disadvantages
    false advertising

morally spoiled heroes (I don't mean Lgbt +)
There are no decent attitudes to follow, but there will be exceptions.

    brutal even by my standards
the moments when a player feels emotionally handicapped, lack of empathy ( I felt dislike for myself. )
    the side characters are shallow
the main objective has not been achieved
ending (When I finished the game, I realized that I no longer had any sympathy for the two heroines.)
    sometimes boring (exploring)

    Additional comments:
It was supposed to be a zombie game, right? I felt that zombies are a species in extinction than the human race.
I don't think any religion should be offended in games.
I thought that in a survival game we should first focus on survival rather than social problems. Which 45 (?) years later some social problem don't have to be exist.

I feel this game pushing me so hard to feel the good-woman Abby, Incontast Ellie like the bad girl.
The whole story made Ellie a lot looser as the PTSD trilogy lost everything, lost fingers, disabled, lost ability to play guitar. Losing lovers and families (Dina and JJ)
This is the main character that fans love. she would get anything better than these ending.
Personally, if finishing like this I'd rather end it at the farm. Joel would prefer Ellie to live happily. Not losing everything like this
The ending background in Menu bar is a hopeful for Abby and Lev. The director was biased. Hopeful for Abby but the despond for Ellie

Although it was a ballsy move for Naughty Dog to not even make another game of the Last of Us, but also to make this story that is filled with sadness, anger, confusion, and brutality as it should be, but I have to say that the story was NOT really what we wanted.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After waiting 7 years the last of us 2 does not live up to the expectations of the namesake. The story is a mess, constantly flipping from present to past and most of the time feels like this shouldve been part 3. Joel is killed 2 hours into the game in an out of character moment setting the games plot into motion. Ellie now spends the game trying to find his killer and get revenge. The Last of Us 2 in many of its subverting expectation moments then has you play as Joels killer, Abby to lead up to the confrontation with Ellie. The two fight and Abby leaves them live after finding out Dina is pregnant. Ellie then decides to go after Abby again after Tommy guilt trips her and in the end lets Abby go. The game ends with Ellie letting Joel go and forgiving him. For me the main problem is Ellie has lost so much to Abby and in the end people died for nothing because the writers wanted to show how bad revenge is. An interesting idea but just poorly executed. Ellie is ready to kill Abby but after remembering forgiving Joel decides against it. I find it stupid and anti climatic that she would do this after what she put herself and her friends through. The writers clearly had a love for Abby and that bias showed throughout the game. She had all of the best moments gameplay wise and storywise got more interesting material. The one part of the story I really liked was the Lev/Yara and the Scars storyline. It was an interesting insight into another faction of the world and had some of the best moments gameplay wise. Riding on a horse from a burning settlement was one highlight. On the topic of gameplay this is the one place where the last of us 2 excells. It refines everything I loved from the first game and adds a couple of new mechanics like the prone ability. The environments are breathtaking and the collectibles really help build the world. There was nothing more satisfying than sneaking your way through a group of enemies silently picking them off one by one. The few boss fights the game offered were good but could be improved in future games but overall the gameplay was worth the price of admission alone. It is lacking the one thing that made the first so great, interesting characters and the characters from the first are either ruined or end up doing some stupid out of character moment to suffice the plot. The new characters are either boring or mildly interesting but overall are not up to the quality of this series. The game overall is not terrible but for a developer like Naughty Dog and a series like The Last of Us it is very dissapointing. Expand

From a technical standpoint, TLOU2 is amazing. You can clearly see the hard work put into the graphics, music and voice acting. The gameplay is fun. But the praise the first game of the series got mainly wasn't due to technical stuff. It was such a success because of the story and the characters and that's why part 2 should be judged for those factors as well. And they just don't hold up.
Part 1 was great because it was ambigous. As the player you had to judge the character's actions for yourself and there was room for interpretation. The writing was subtle and emotional. Yes, there were tense moments, shocking moments and sadness. But it was balanced out with lightheartesness and tragic beauty.
Part 2 throws that out of the window. It's one horrible emotional gut punch after another. Horrible things happen – but they don't make you pause and reflect because it's just a neverending onslaught of misery. At a certain point you stop feeling connected to the story because it's so incredibly obvious these things happen purely for shock value. A lot of contrived stuff as well. The main characters have so much plot armour – they're saved at the last moment again and again and again.
I could look past that, honestly. But what really disappointed me was how heavy handed the writing was. Gone are the subtleties. It's so obvious how the game wants to make you feel throughout the story – to a manipulative degree. But despite this I never felt connected to the characters because I was never onboard with any of their horrible and often times stupid choices.

    Spoiler:
I realy don't care how many dogs I get to pet as Abby, I still don't like her. The writers wanted the player to feel for her so badly, but I can't bring myself to do it. Even if she gets the most fun gameplay sequences. The problem I have with Abby is that she never ever reflects on her own actions. She's the one who encouraged her father to perform the operation that would have killed Ellie. And she never once questions her decision or her father's. She thinks she's justified in the beginning of the story and she still feels that way at the end. She even becomes Lev's Joel and kills her own people to save him. And yet she never makes that connection and never feels bad for what she did.

I was disappointed in Ellie's character development as well. She flip flops about whether or not she should kill Abby all the time. The story might have been salvageable if it had ended on the farm. But now I don't even feel invested in what happens to any of the characters in the inevitable third installment.

My biggest gripe with the game is that it tries to make you feel bad about playing it. What kind of decision is that? The message of the game is "revenge is bad, don't kill people". Ellie and Abby lose so much because they can't grasp that simple idea. And in the end both of them refrain from killing each other when they get the chance. But while the game tries to hammer down that moral standpoint, it makes you kill endless amounts of NPCs and makes it fun to pick them off one by one. That kind of makes the message of the game hypocritical. The whole story revolves around the consequences of Joel killing one NPC in the first installment. And here we are, killing hundreds more. So TLOS2 is basically a guy wearing leather boots and a coat made from polar bear cubs preaching about the moral superiority of vegan food.
