TLOU2 is bold in its narrative decisions and I can see why it's caused such a huge divide between critics and players.

I will say, though, that this game excels visually and design-wise, so much so that Jacksonville and the rotten heart of Seattle both look unbelievably gorgeous. The game is a dream to play when you're looting, running around, or taking in the scenery. Naughty Dog

Naughty Dog does stumble in places, however. The combat and stealth feel dated and rusty compared to the polished finesse in other departments, and the narrative suffers from inconsistent pacing. A few character decisions are out of place and there are more than several moments that are eye-rollingly heavy handed.

Overall, TLOU2 isn't the masterpiece that I think many critics have portrayed it as. It's an ambitious title that pushes the capabilities of the medium, but as an experience it's overly long, self-important, and doesn't say as much as it thinks it does. It is still a great time, and if you were a fan of the shoot-em and loot-em mechanics from the first game you'll feel at home here. By no means groundbreaking, but still absolutely worth trying - regardless of what angry fanboys said at release.

Horror games are not my genre, but like with the first game, I powered through the zombie parts for the story, which was worth it. The whole zombie premise, too, is fascinating enough to take in small doses.

Great game, if you like linear, cinematic games like this, and can handle some spooky stuff. Don't let the review bombers tell you otherwise.

Joel shouldn’t be tortured and killed that way. And we shouldn’t have to play with the person who did it. ( I don’t really care about the collateral damage he did - just felt like watching Austin Powers when they turned to show the friends and family of the bad guy who was killed by Austin. The point is, who cares about the bad guys? **** them. Same to Abby and her dad. And I had to play half the game with that **** only to see she going away alive in the end. **** it. Someone was even sadistic to make Ellie lose fingers and made you try to play the guitar at the end. Seriously. Bad story. Totally disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

The story is based only on a revenge. There is no character development, no emotional connection. Remember how long it took Ellie to build a relationship with Joel in first game? How long it took Joel to overcome the loss of his daughter, and to adopt Ellie? Well screw you! Now there is girl, you kissed the day before the game starts, the next day you’re making out and all in love. Also, authors use this logic for the whole game - here we take something away from, and you should be angry. This is a stupid 80s action movie, but not fun at all.

Gameplay is literally the same as original Last of Us. No new mechanics, no unique encounters, you either slowly walk and loot, or run and shoot. Looting is boring - you can only interact with 1 or 2 objects on scene. Shooting has no feedback at all. You don’t feel satisfied after you’ve managed to make a good shot. And don’t even mention stealth - I thought in 2020 players deserve something more interesting than basic arenas with covers and objects throwing.

What about famous animations? Have anyone seen any? Choppy, sluggish and absolutely unimpressive. RDR 2 feels more alive than these puppets.

Visuals are impressive. Impressive how bad they look. RDR2 looked MUCH better than this blurred mess. The very first scene of the game shows you a town, where dozens of people with only 4 different faces and clothes! And it is not action based scene like in a first game, where you don’t have time to notice this - no, you walk slowly and notice everything.

This garbage deserves nothing but a zero, and I really want writers of this game, those who actually made decision, to understand what an abomination they’ve created, and never do this crap again.

What made the first game special for me, they showed how a deep connection could come from two complete strangers and it felt real.
In this game they throw in so much into the pot it creates a lot of weird plot holes and even after 30 hours I don't have a single character I really like.

This game turned into kinda... The Walking Dead: The Game. Regardless of what history tells us about how people in war act usually kind and help each other, all main characters in this game are straight up ****

But who knows, maybe you'll surprise me with Part 3 and...subvert my expectations, ba dum tss.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I understand why people are angry with this game, but none of these 0-7 reviews are warranted. Giving this game anything below a 7 is silly. Giving this game anything below a 5 is objectively wrong.

This game is lovingly crafted and polished down to the last pixel. The animations, graphics, environments, art direction, gameplay, music, sound design, acting, and storytelling are all lovingly crafted by people who clearly cared about making the best product they could.

The story, particularly in relation to the original game, is the sole source of all the ire directed toward this game. I must stress that the story telling is top notch, it's just that the story Mr. Druckmann chose to tell is the problem.

The game starts out promising enough, where you play as Joel riding on horseback toward a breathtakingly gorgeous view of Jackson in the distance. You and Tommy are out on the plains of Wyoming under a sunset while a sombre guitar rift gently yet strikingly plays. It's all incredibly perfect and really makes you feel that you're walking into something great. And it is great.

Until Joel gets brutally murdered by a woman with the most freakishly bizarre character physique I've ever seen on a video game character.

Everything regarding the narrative is kind of downhill from here. Ellie turns into a merciless killer on a quest for revenge, and the moment you are about to get it, you're suddenly FORCED TO PLAY AS THE BIZARRELY DESIGNED TESTOSTERONE-LADEN WOMAN WHO MURDERED JOEL, and you're forced to play as her for nearly half the game! I can only guess the reason they did this is to humanize her and make you feel some sort of compassion and understanding for her actions, but that's pretty hard to do considering that you didn't do this until AFTER she murdered the character we already spent an entire game playing as, learning to love him despite his objective faults. He was one of the most well developed, most human characters I've ever seen in fiction, and killing him off the way they did felt like a huge middle finger to everyone who loved the first game. And after all this, this lengthy revenge quest, you never actually get it, and are just left with a sad, unsatisfying ending where Ellie essentially loses everything. The most frustrating part of all of this is that the game is incredibly well made, so I cannot really hate it. I just kind of wish I'd never played it.

It's all very sad and unrewarding and makes you wish they'd never made a sequel, because they shouldn't have. The absolute hands down highlights of this game are, ironically, the series of flashbacks you go through with Ellie and Joel from years past. There's one in particular where it's Ellie's Birthday and Joel takes her to an abandoned museum and well...it's heartwarming and just so damn perfect and great in every way, so much so that it pretty much made the game worth playing despite how much I loathed the ending.

All I can say is this: if you liked the original game's story and cared about its characters, there's a very high likelihood you will not like this game, and I would recommend you steer clear of it, I know I wish I had. But it's nothing resembling a bad game, and it doesn't even come close to deserving all the negative user reviews here. I just wish they'd have taken the story in a different direction and handled Ellie and Joel's stories differently, and that's why I completely understand where all the negative reviews are coming from. But when you look at it for what it is, a video game, and how it plays, and how well it's made, there's really no justification for low scores.

I won't go into any major spoilers but I will reflect on the plot a bit as it is the most important aspect of the game and what separates it from the first one. When it comes to game play it's pretty much the same which is a good thing. Combat is fun, violent and heavy. All of it amplified by the downright beautiful visuals and sometimes realistic animations. What's changed technically is that the crafting is a bit easier and now that Ellie can climb just about anything you have a bit more verticality in ways of dispatching your enemies. I like how the enemy AI are bit smarter now as they try to flank you and rush you more often. When they are under cover they will duck as soon as they see you point your sights at them. A nice touch is how they react to any given situation. If they see a downed partner they will react in anger or sadness by calling out their name or warning others. They will clue themselves in on your position and if your gun goes click click they will let one another know "she's out get her". Things like that and the atmosphere is dreary but very immersive. New enemy types include dogs and 2 new zombie variants one of witch is great and the other a bit too similar to another. They do add some cool boss battles and set pieces that were much needed and I won't spoil. Dogs, in my opinion, were more of an annoyance then anything else it could have been left out. What I don't like is that the game was said to have several semi open world sections where there was only one. It's not that I cared for it to have them but to give you only one section of the game like that seemed a bit odd to me. Also, as with many E3 demos, the gameplay did not look near as fluid as it did in it's demo. I thought that demo looked overly scripted and it was. Now for the story. Poorly directed, poorly written and tonally everywhere. The highly controversial plot is actually a good one that makes sense but it is told in such a messy way that it constantly took me out of it. Story progression is interrupted with flashbacks in such odd places where the tone goes from 100 to 0 in a second. Characters act in ways that don't make sense and by the end you will not care about a single one of them. The main theme is thrown out the window by the finish line. I couldn't help but think to myself how much better the story would be if it went a different way and how the directors/writers didn't see it that way. Movies are not shot in order. They shoot parts of the end, beginning and middle and then edit them to be in order. This game feels like it was shot that way but someone forgot to put them in order. It even feels like 2 games in one. I give the gameplay, visuals and sound a 5 and the story a 0. It is a game that I would only revisit for the gameplay sections and skip the cut scenes. Expand

You can upgrade your character and your weapons, (as you can on the previous game).
The graphics are very good and the animations are gorgeous.
¿Why i'm giving it a 2 then?... Because of the story... That fk piece of s*** caused me to hate this game and it took away all my craving for replaying it.

The ending is just a part of the problem, and not the problem itself. The game tries to represent that "vengance is bad"... But let me be clear. It tries to do that by not taking revenge against someone that already took revenge... With Joel, killing him at the start of the game.

Don't take me wrong, Joel had it coming from what he did on the previous game, but doing the people wait YEARS to kill the protagonist of the previous game at the start of this game... It's just a nonsense.

I'm gonna talk about how this game tries to convince you of not taking revenge because vengance is bad and nothing good comes from it.
Ellie does not kill the assassin of Joel, (which was Abby). But does not matter if she does or doesn't kill Abby, the plot hole is still there.
How so?... Well Abby took revenge of Joel, and Ellie didn't with Abby... That means that nothing bad came from Abby's vengance, woohoo -> Plothole (since nothing bad came from vengance).

Now lets think on the hypothetical situation of Ellie taking revenge on Abby and killing her... Now Abby's dead, woohoo -> Plot hole, since nothing bad came from vengance.
Now lets think on the other hypothetical situation... Abby takes revenge on Joel and Ellie takes revenge on Abby... BUT, then the partner of Abby wakes up from the boat and kills Ellie, and nothing bad happens to him, woohoo -> Plot hole again, since nothing bad came from vengance.

It doesn't really matter what you do, vengance it's still there and the plot hole too. What the **** they are actually trying to represent with "vengeance being bad".
(Also, Ellie didn't took revenge on Abby and still lost her girlfriend by trying to do it... Oh, and two of her fingers too, preventing her from playing the guitar song that Joel teached her).

Now im going to actually enumerate which contributions this game does to the "The last of Us" Universe. Ready?
    - Joel dies.
    - Tommy (Joel's brother) gets blind from an eye.
    - Ellie's friend Jesse dies.
    - Ellie's girlfriend Dina almost dies, and breaks with Ellie leaving her.
    - Ellie loses 2 fingers.
    * (An everything it's caused by Abby, the one that Ellie let go unpunished).
Wow, awesome!, I can't wait to play this game again and revive all this beatiful moments!.

    ###########################################
    - This is the case in wich doesn't matter AT ALL if the game it's a 10 on gameplay, mechanics, animations, and soo... Because the story it's SO SO SO Fu***ng bad!, that now i'm completely disgusted with it and I prefer to thinkg that it got cancelled and never came out.

¿Superior a Bloodborne? ¿Uncharted 4? ¿The Witcher 3?

Good lord. The marketing lies they pulled for this game...
Naughy Dog is no longer who they once were.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
