A phenomenal sequel, with a cinematic feel and powerful storytelling that shakes you to the core. Don’t listen to the haters who haven’t played it and only pay attention to leaks, or are mad because the story didn’t go the way THEY WANT. This game is a work of art, from the every element of game design. It’s a testament to the hard work of everyone at Naughty Dog.

Absolutely incredible followup to the first. The balance is spot on and you are able to really become immersed in the story. I logged about 37 hours in my first playthrough, but I also took a lot of time searching for items. I highly recommend this game and the franchise as a whole.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A masterful evolution of narrative gameplay. Beautifully executed, if not a bit under developed in the evolution of the game mechanics. Every new character is alive, and more interesting than the next. Truly a well developed, and frankly obviously step from the previous incarnation. A bit derivative in the story, but still engaging. Anyone who saw Joel as a hero from the first installment is an idiot. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My view of TLOU2's Storytelling: Joel dies a pitiful, sickening, post traumatic stress inducing death. Justice is not properly served throughout the entirety of Ellie’s brutal crusade. The newly introduced characters are basically irrelevant and apart from serving as Ellie's emotional support; Jesse, Dina, Tommy, and a few other characters are simply killed off or brutally injured without being given a fighting chance. Tommy and Ellie do get some vengeance in killing Manny, Nora, Owen, Mel and a few others. However, Abby, the catalyst of their conflict, escapes with her life time and time again. Along the way, there are some good (I'd even say "great") moments of character development for each respective character(s). Although, it's more or less just an emotional tease for the viewer and does not have any major impact on the outcome of the story. They show time and time again that Naughty Dog was able to produce a tear jerking story of meaningful friendships and satisfying revenge but decided to avoid that route and instead give players a dreadful tale to follow from beginning to end. As you continue to play, Abby is arguably the focus of this game and being forced to play from her perspective is torturous. I'm assuming Naughty Dog tried to give Abby a sympathetic outlook on the game's story in order to make her a more tolerable character. We learn that Abby is afraid of heights, likes collects coins, helped her father rescue a Zebra, etc. She even rescues a young child from a group of survivors similar to, but far more savage than, that of David's group from TLOU1. During that event Abby is supposed to reveal her positive characteristics but it isn't before long that we are reminded of her equally monstrous desire for revenge and stomach for brutality. Abby is only compassionate to her friends and will kill anyone else without remorse and having to carry out that violence by her hands is cringeworthy. Ellie shows empathy for her enemies and is shown to be suffering from PTSD throughout her day to day life; especially after cornering and killing Nora. She even tries to sympathize with Abby by telling her that she knows why Abby wanted to kill Joel before they proceed to fight in a theater. Ellie understands that she was a victim of Joel's lie and Abby was a victim of Joel's massacre. Ellie is mature and able to reason with the enemy while Abby is pretty much just shooting whoever makes her mad. More than this, it is revealed later in the game that Abby *never* witnessed her dad being killed by Joel. She only saw his corpse some time after he was murdered. While in contrast, Ellie was cruelly forced to witness Joel's murder and therefore Ellie's lust for revenge has a unique justification that Abby's does not. Abby went out of her way on a 4 year long mission to hunt and kill a man that had put his past behind him and she gets away with it: Abby escapes and starts a new life with her friend Lev. Ellie, our protagonist and the victim of Abby's violence, does not get that luxury and is left with no shoulder to lean on as she returns to a farm house with physical and mental scarring.

My view of TLOU2's Game-play: Without expressing my opinions on every aspect of this game, just know that I find the game-play very satisfying and rightly improved. The fighting mechanics are much better than before, especially in hand to hand combat as the player now has the option to dodge incoming attacks. The player can now also jump, maneuver via rope, and crawl. Most of the surrounding areas are also available for exploration which gives the player a true sense of freedom. The graphics are wonderful with both the environment and the characters in the environment and the lighting provides a very immersive feeling for the player and viewer alike. The physics of most objects are very realistic and I like the way that snow and rain interact with the world. I also find the voice acting and sound effects to be phenomenal as the speech, coughs, grunts, laughs, cries, yells, gunfire, footsteps and more were completely believable and did not distract the player from the setting of the events.

My overall review: To sum this up. I was consistently tense throughout the entirety of the game after Joel's death and from that point forward each of my fears were confirmed and often surpassed around every corner. Naughty Dog achieved their goals in delivering a tragic story and I have no complaints about inconsistencies with their storytelling. My problem is that the story they chose to tell is one of injustice and despair. Our characters did not have a happy ending. Joel's death alone left me with so many tears and negative emotions that I had no choice but to see through the entire story just so that I could get proper closer. The game-play alone deserves a 4/5 but the story is essentially evil.

The game is good visually, but the plot is a very weak side of this game, gameplay is very tight and boring

    Story 0/10
    Gameplay - 0/10
Graphics - 6/10 but game based on the plot should not be judged on graphics

Sony and Naughty dog, especially Neil druckmann should be ashamed for using bots to increase the ratings. This is a complete joke of a game. The violence and the story delivers a very clique message that 'revenge solves nothing' at the expense of Ellie's character and the joy of the gamers. This is an insult to the first game and clearly these guys have no idea why we liked the first game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly, I think that this game was what it was supposed to be cinematically and so much improved from the TLoU1 mechanically. Storyline(spoiler after disclaimer) - Ellie and Abby’s arch’s make sense if you consider them as real people rather than characters in your story. PTSD, sorrow, sadness masquerading as revenge, and finding closure without finality are all real and I felt it all. I felt the rage and bloodlust after (spoilers until next paragraph) Joel’s death. I felt the confusion at finding all the dead in Seattle, I felt the tiredness at the end of day 2, the confusion and sense of duty as Abby, and when I was at the farm with my family I felt like I’m done but, can I just leave it like that. Once I was in this fight with Abby, I just didn’t want it to be so personal, why couldn’t I just shoot her. Why are the developers making me do this, imagine being Ellie in that fight. “Why do I have to kill her? I’m so tired. I’ve come so far. Is this really what I want or just what I think I need to do. This does nothing for Joel. This kid will die if I kill Abby. I just want this to be over.” And so she chose it to be over. To choose herself and her conscience over revenge. I loved it. Also, it had some of the unfairness of real life. I did all this **** to get the surgery kit for her to get merc’ed come on. Lol The story was great if you’re willing to let go of, well basically yourself, and realize Joel had a good heart yes. But he was far from perfect and made bad decisions, and was ultimately as selfish as everyone in that godforsaken world, and as Ellie have to go against that mentality in the end. Game mechanics - I liked everything the changed from the first
    -Finally I have a knife
    -I can jump
    -I can craft arrows
-I can dodge and get into real brawls
    -I can make silencers
    -I can go prone
In general the gameplay was smoother and cleaner than a game from 2013 nothing to write home about. Cons-
It felt too easy...? I played it on the hardest mode and it felt pretty easy to kill anything, my ammo was usually full, my backpack was usually full, I found all of the cards. I hope they drop a harder update but that’s about all.

    Thanks for reading!

The graphics for the most part seems like next gen visuals.

The gameplay takes cues from mgs 5 and its pretty varied and intense on higher difficulties. Enemies are very aggressive and don't seem dumb on hard and survivor. However i was able to break the AI twice in the game. Gun play feels very good; gun variety is also present. Skill trees although half of them are meaningless, its a welcome addition for replay value on new game plus to completely level up .

The game length is also decent clocking around 31 hours on my first play through on hard. New game plus is a welcome addition.

Game also contains extras like concept art and character models if you like those things.

Performance on the base ps4 launch version was very impressive with almost no frame rate dips. Encountered frame rate issues once but it was gone once the game was restarted.

Almost zero bugs in the game. Encountered one buggy shimmy animation in my 60 hours with the game.

It's easy to see the "story" in poor taste if you're relying on just leaks or clips of certain scenes, which almost takes the scene out of context. It seems a bit unfair to judge the game on that basis without giving it a chance.
Anyway, that is just something I wanted to get off my chest. Hope you all have a good day.

ok so i have played the game twice from start to finish now, and i like the game, and i hate the game, but i did not like Abby at all, she sounds stupid when you confronts her about killing Joel, when Joel killed her dad, he just killed him, he did not torture him for a long time or kill him in front of his daughter real or not, so yes of course we will hate Abby, that being said, i actually really liked the game, it is def a 8.5/10, there are elements i did not like about the story, killing the two named dogs was a big one, don't force me to kill a dog and then name them after, that is just cruel as **** and the Abby segment was way to long, i understand getting her backstory, and some of the leading up to the fight stuff, but there was too much of it, and i just wanted to get past it to play as Ellie again, also Tommy just turning into an **** in the end did not sit right with me, so yeah there is some stuff i did not like about the game, but the game was a beautiful one, and one i will remember for a long time to come, and if there will be a part 3 to The last of us, i will def buy and play it to the fullest too :D

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
