This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just clear the game. I feel so depressed right now. As a huge fan of the last one, I still can’t believe I’ve been waiting years for this **** Joel was dead, Ellie lost everything in her life plus two fingers. This is just not the way to make your fans impressive. I probably will give this game an 8 , but as long as it’s the Last of Us, it will only deserve a 0 and a middle finger. By the way, what’s wrong with Naughty dog thinking players want to play Abby for 8 hours after she killed Joel?! It’s not enjoyable and I still want to get the revenge during every minute of it. The worst part is, Naughty dog took that decision from players and ‘help’ players choose the ‘right’ choice. Seriously, I don’t need your opinion, I just want to get the **** done.
Anyway, I will definitely not buy the sequel (I really hope there is not).

This game would be amazing if they just let Joel live for like 80-90% of the game, I only enjoy playing the flashbacks and the short time Joel is alive befor he get Mario Golfed. You can get same reaction from killing a puppy, I really don't understand the way they took out joel. Did they really think people would like it this way? Also way to many plot holes and no character really had any goals with there lifes more then to go full rampage dafuq? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. We assume that on a technical level it is truly spectacular. If you have to look at the story, it is really horrendous. The behavior of Joel and his brother at the beginning of the game is created specifically to allow the plot to take the turn it should, but in reality Joel and Tommy would never have acted like this. Do you remember, for example, how in the first chapter Joel sees a man asking for help in the middle of the street and instead of stopping he accelerates and runs over him? That is Joel's real behavior not to trust anyone, not to help anyone. they tried in every way during the game to empathize with abby but I never empathized with her, all I felt was hate that I hoped to be able to alleviate by taking my revenge by playing as Ally (which did not happen). To break the vicious circle of hate Ally decides to save Abby's life and let her go on her way. Just the core of the actions that Ally performs do not make sense, because having spared Abby's life does not imply having ended the circle of hate, in fact, the daughter or a friend of a npc randomly killed during the game may simply appear looking for Ellie to kill her since she killed her father / friend, as they decided to do on tlou2. If at the beginning of the game I was angry about Joel's death but hoping to have a nice revege story at the end of the game I realized that I was depressed and even more angry. Expand

The last of us Part 2 scores a 10 out of 10, with the most amazing graphics (foliage, water, facial expressions, the representation of a Seattle in decay...), more of the same game mechanics from part 1, new enemies and a very satisfying soundtrack.
That is... without the story and the poorly made choices the gamer has to endure.

Spoilers NOW, seriously stop reading if you haven't finished the game!

Instead of telling the story and unfolding the difficult relationship between Joel and Ellie, Naughty Dog decides it would be best to kill Joel and send Ellie on a revenge mission. Hatred, anger and stubbornness set the tone, but they aren't accompanied with character development. In fact, the choices you have to make with Ellie (several times) are utmost illogical. After completing the game you're left with a bitter aftertaste.
And if that isn't enough, you are forced as a gamer to play +-/ 15 hours with the murderer of Joel, trying to kill Tommy and beating Ellie and her girlfriend to a pulp. The murderer of Joel has it's own emotional story and a fair amount of reasons to take revenge on Joel/Ellie, but still... ... being forced to play with this character and having to make choices I didn't want to make, left me several times in a state where I didn't want to play anymore (and most of us looked forward to playing the game for 7 years).

The are 2 emotional flashbacks where you play as Joel and Ellie again, leaving you frustrated, bittered and even upset, knowing that, with the chemistry between those two, this could've been the best game sequel ever made!

Graphics, story telling, details, gameplay. Naughty Dog have outdone themselves again!

The only reason I can see people giving the game a 1 star, is because of the death of Joel. But they don't see that having him killed in such a brutal manner is what pulls you into the game further.

I usually try to sneak around as many enemies as possible, but for Part 2 I wanted to shoot, stab, burn and beat every Wolf I came across to death until I finally got to Abby!

... Then the game flips you on your head, and makes you play as her... At first I didn't like it, but as you progress you start to understand Abby and almost begin to want her to win over Ellie!
Thats only possible through the story telling, and this game has mastered it.

    Play this game!

You made my love for playing the first TLOU over and over again, trying different things, disappear..... I can't express my disappointment for this game... I'm sorry but I think you should remake the story or don't make a sequel, because I'm sure it will also be a trash game. You changed my perspective of TLOU. Your failure will never be forgotten and will always remain in the minds of the gamers that waited for this game for years. Im sorry but...... leave this franchise alone and don't bother coming back with it only if you are willing to rewrite the story, with new writers. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us 2 was one hell of a Rollercoaster. The story was complex and rich and real. It showcases the imperfections or being human and the frailty of life. It’s action packed, emotional, terrifying, hilarious, and most of all it feels real. There are things and characters you love and ones you hate. Things you don’t want to happen that happens regardless because we are just watching a story unfold in an interactive way. We don’t get to dictate what happens to the characters in this brutal world, we get the privilege of seeing how they try to get through it. The writing is superb! The graphics are boggling and the game mechanics a delicious improvement on the mechanics of the first game. I really want multiplayer but that’s not important right now because holy biscuits this story.

No one is a superhero in this world. Even Ellie who is immune, isn’t invulnerable. She can still die, just like anyone else who gets viciously torn apart by a clicker. Dina says it perfectly at the farm "Jesse didn't plan on dying, and neither did Joel". Dying isn't attractive no matter how its portrayed. In most cases, especially in the world of The Last of US, its unexpected and sudden. You survive until you don’t. A surprise bullet while running into the unknown to help a friend when you thought you were somewhere safe. Murdered with a pipe by someone who's life you just saved after softening from 5 years of safety and awkward love and getting old after 25 years in an apocalyptic world that has not been nice on your body.

Ellie’s journey in this game is powerfully human. From the triumphs to the struggles, the good decisions and the bad, you can understand her perspective. You can’t help but question the lengths you would go to in her situation, even if you know what’ll happen. You may come to the thought that you would choose differently, but you can still get why she does it all.

Abby… uhg ABBY. I am so conflicted about her. So much darkness, but so much tragedy and growth. Despite our love for the original characters, we can again come to understand Abby’s perspective and choices as the story unfolds. The desperation for her to restore some light in her world hits us, even as we disagree with and despise her actions. Then we come to support her other actions even if we still hate her.

The supporting characters all around are so GOOD. They build the story alongside the main characters while growing and failing in their own ways with their own stories. They aren’t just fillers, they are a part of the world and the story being told. Even the npc’s you fight and kill throughout help tell the story with their own characters.

The ending of it all fit, but I think it could have been better...maybe. It was a good ending, but it still felt like there could have been more. The flashback of seeing a peaceful Joel after only being able to see him in his brutal death shocked Ellie and I think fulfilled her goal. When she left the farm, she told Dina she couldn't get him out of her head, couldn't stop thinking about it all. She had to end it the only way she could think to move on. Whether it be from seeing the state of Abby and Lev after enduring who knows what as some form of punishment, not wanting to end up like Tommy, feeling empowered that she had overcome Abby and "won", or some other factor or combination, Ellie found some peace in that moment. At least enough to let it go, and return to her family. That said, I think what could have made it stronger and been a good specific trigger point was if Lev had begged Ellie to stop like Ellie had begged Abby. That combined with all the other factors prompting Ellie would have, I think, given stronger indication of growth and offered a release of turmoil. It would change things though, it would be a prompt as opposed to a natural occurrence which can feel stronger but does feel more… scripted. I can't say that its inherently better either way, but I can say I love this game regardless.

You can't please everyone, especially with such a heavy game with real emotions that is beloved by many for good reason. Still, 10 years of dedication created a fantastic game to tell an amazing story that provokes thought and emotion thats not always pleasant. The confusing, convoluted reality that is the cycle of violence is laid bare with no room to hide from it. The Last of Us was never a happy story, it’s always been a good story.

Combat has improved since the first game. The addition of a dodge is so helpful and the stealth is amazing. The use of tall grass to sneak around, sneaking around a corner as an enemy looks over the top of the table, it's all extremely intense. Many moments have your heart racing and after triggering an enemy and just surviving a frenetic fight, I leaped to my fight and punched the air.

The environments are amazing. They allow you so many different ways to handle a fight or avoid the fight altogether.

The story is bleak but engaging and pretty full on. Maybe skip this if you have depression issues.

My only downsides so far is that I've encountered a couple of bugs. Nothing game breaking. The loot searching can get tiresome as well but that's like any other survival horror and it adds to the intensity.

Last of Us was one of my all time favourite games. This one is at least as good, possibly better than the first. Overall would highly recommend.

The first part was one of the best games I've ever played. The game had everything you wanted from a great story game Story, characters, emotions, graphics.
The last of Us 2 is exactly the opposite of the first part.
I'll start with the positives, graphics as always from the Naughty Dog studio gorgeous, panoramas of flooded Seattle alternating snowy mountains and villages reminiscent of the Middle Ages, just a feast for the eyes.
The game is very shocking, both positively and negatively. You get to know the character, you start to like her, and in 4 hours ABBY will pierce her head with her manly hand that even Dwayne Johnson would envy her. Acting performances better than in any million-dollar film and you will know from the facial expressions of the characters what they really think and feel. Also, of course, flshback passages with Joel and Tommy, where I felt like I was playing the first part, and this is how the game was supposed to start, and a slightly improved gameplay. And that's all.
There are many negatives, we start with the decision of characters who behave as if they had an Alzheimer and did not know where he is, this ability is dominated by Ellie who could live a happy life with Dina and the child, but simply has to for ABBY whom she is not even able to kill everything, and the utterly repulsive effort of the creators to make Ellie a completely unthinking, heartless monster that kills dogs and who knows maybe demonstrates in the evenings.
I'll move on to the most painful thing, and that's ABBYE, remember that name because after it's over, you'll be haunted in the evenings by a very tasty sex scene that has as much to do with sex as Germany and peace.
A completely dysfunctional character with whom, after beating Joel with a golf club, it is simply impossible to identify. And I honestly don't even remember her story because it was taken to the extreme, as was the story of the whole game. Why I have to play Flashbeck in Flachbeck on Flashbek under Flashbek just doesn't bother me. The end of the story is like, it could just be over, but I'll stretch it by 6 hours and I won't even talk about the final fight with Abby.
I didn't mind the presence of LGBT and everything because it just made sense and it wasn't crammed everywhere.
For me, The Last of Us is a huge disappointment and a demonstration that everyone should make their own opinion on the game, and not follow reviews, such as mine.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Such a waste of a franchise.

Lazy story writing that equated to violence/revenge = bad.

They try to put you in the shoes of a person impacted by the violence committed in the first game by Joel... problem is the character isn't likeable or relatable. Also I couldn't feel guilt for what Joel did as it was justified, it was Ellies life for the CHANCE of a cure... without concent.

The game does have some highlights and is visually stunning which is what brought my score up to a 6.
They include the hospital boss fight, the jump scares from the walls and the open part of Seattle.

However anything with the "scars" in was just terrible, peaking at the point you take a trip to their island... it felt like you had landed in a Nora village from Horizon Zero Dawn (a game I love but not akin to the last of us!), this happens just when you think you have finished up playing as Abby which is tiresome as she was so unlikeable.

Don't even get me started on the ending, I had hoped the game would redeem itself at that point but you get nothing from it, trying to preach the narrative of revenge = bad... but was such an anticlimax. If you want to play for yourself and judge then buy this pre owned and then likely sell it.

Truly gutted by how bad this game was.
