TL:DR It's sad that this game has been review bombed by people during the first week of it's release. If you enjoy story driven games in general, try this game out. If you played TLOU: P1, all I can say is prepare yourself. It will hurt you in the best way possible.

Full review: This game moved me in a way I've never experienced in a videogame. The story is engaging and beautiful. It's truly a marvel of plot creation. During the second half of the game, you may experience some mixed feelings as there is a major shift in story, but buckle in and you will quickly understand why this choice was made.
All other elements (graphics, animation, acting) are all noticeably better than the first game, with the notable exception of gameplay. I feel that this section could have been innovated on more than they ended up with, as it feels a bit to similar to TLOU: P1 in my opinion. There are improvements, but the system of combat is largely the same. This is why I gave it a 9/10 instead of a 10/10.

The result? An experience you can't find in movies, series, books and even in other games. The amazingly beautiful aesthetics of the chapters and cut-scenes are breathtaking, this improves the already evolved gameplay, proving that minor changes in combat, dogding and interactions can change the whole experience.
What about the narratives aspects of it? Mesmerizing, yet imperfect. Thankfully, the weak story of one of the protagonists and its excess of (not so useful) flashbacks is fastly omitted by a great character study of these two beings and their arcs that resonates in a laudable theme. The choices that the developers went through the game are bold, but creates an emotional roller coaster to the player improving his/her experience.
Conclusion? It's indeed a must play to all PlayStation user, the unification of an emotional plot and an active and incredible gameplay creates a truly wonderful game made with blood, sweat and tears from the developers and actors. Enjoy it.

Hard to fault. The pacing could have been a little tighter in areas and the game overall could have been a little shorter but in the end a great game. Definitely worth it if you're mature enough to enjoy a story that has fewer happy notes than most.

I enjoyed the game a lot. Gameplay and combat is really really really good and immersive. The graphics and sound design is top-notch. I don’t get all the hate for this game. I just got around to finishing it. And I have to say that I really enjoyed it! It did not hit me as hard as the first game. But it still was a great game. Nice story that makes you do hate certain characters at times(but in a way I am ok with), good game play IMO, awesome graphics for a ps4, superb acting and all that.

    Sure, people might not agree

Sure, people might not agree with 9/10. But giving it 0 is just silly, and are probably people throwing them selves on the hate wagon or who have not played the game and maybe read some spoilers and did not like what they read. Not the same as playing it.

I advise you TO read it in full!!!
Yes, you are all so slow-witted?)
Of the majority of all those who commented here - no one understood anything. The meaning of the game is much deeper than you think. Did you not understand at first, did you still have doubts? Try again!
Everything happens the same as happened with the first part, only here the plot is more complex and a little deeper (I'm not saying that it's better, for me it's on an equal footing, but it's more complicated). Even during the passage of the first part, few people thought that the plot was built on the relationship of the characters and everyone did not like the ending, but after just a couple of months, absolutely everyone said that the game was a masterpiece! The way it is.
    But come on...

Cicadas are terrorists/bandits who killed soldiers, hanged them, shot them.... Abby, Owen, Jerry (Abby's father) can be said to be terrorists!
And what if they have a doctor?!
First of all, what makes you think the Doc was the last one in the world?
Secondly, ally that we have that is not human?? She does not have the right to live, since she is immune??
Third, I repeat, Cicadas are terrorists. What if they create a vaccine and do not revive humanity, but want to make the whole world dance to their tune with offended women-jocks at the head.

The cicadas (and in particular Jerry, the neurosurgeon) put the unconscious girl right on the operating table, and she didn't even Wake up after drinking a lot of water.

My opinion: Ellie is a harmless girl, she didn't just kill people, she didn't do anything wrong. Joel is the same.(Yes, he'd had his sins before, but not when he was with Ellie, and it wasn't about cicadas.) Cicadas, had to wait until Ellie wakes up, agrees to the operation, also ask Joel's opinion, because Ellie has become almost like a daughter for Joel, and here they want some incomprehensible people, according to the soldiers/ state/ civilians - terrorists, to cut her to make a supposedly "vaccine".
Ellie could easily have refused, having come all this way with Joel and found out that she wouldn't survive the operation. There are no hopeless situations - Ellie could say: "Guys, I'm only 15 (at the time of the ending, she was 15), I didn't see the world.... Let me live, it's my right, I'm a man like you. After some time, when I decide to do it, we will do it. Maybe when I'm old, but at the same time, Jerry will teach other doctors how to perform this operation and try to make vaccines."TK at that moment, only he could hold it. And that's it, there would be no conflicts.

You can say that while Ellie will live to an old age, many will already die or she will die, but THINK with YOUR BRAIN at some point, this is her life and she has the right to dispose of as she wants.... the same way you manage your own lives, what's worse than that?

I think Joel did the right thing. He gave Ellie the right to live, although she didn't really understand it, but I hope she will in the future. And it's all Jerry's fault, (Abby's father), THAT he would have made the VACCINE, and it didn't work, what's next? He would have just killed the child....
    And killed how?
I didn't give her a chance to recover.
He forced Marlin to do this, because she was initially against it, and Jerry began to persuade her to perform the operation, that is, to kill Ellie FOR nothing, for the sake of some hope, although she knew Ellie from the cradle and promised her mother to look after her.
I taught other people about it, and in General I forced all the situations that followed - Jerry. Yes, perhaps he wanted to do the best, help humanity, and so on, but the approach he chose..... Oh, what is not correct.
    9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game gets a lot of hate that I think is undeserved because people do not like how this game handled the idea of "Revenge is bad."

I think that this game handled the idea well. Ellie threw away pretty much everything to go for revenge and Abby's story was basically Joel 2.0, an otherwise terrible person gets a shot at redemption through a friendship with someone that they did not have to help or stick around.

The gameplay is 9/10 because the sections controlling the boat sucks, the graphics are 10/10, and I would give the story a solid 9/10 even if it didn't end how most people wanted.

A lot of people have a problem with how this game handled the idea of revenge being bad but then leave glowing reviews for the Red Dead games as well as God of War which are saying pretty much the same thing just in a slightly different manner. Spoilers ahead for both.

Arthur died for nothing in Red Dead 2 because John tried to get revenge on Micah. This led to the events of the first game which led to John dying and his son, who was never supposed to be an outlaw, becoming a continuation of the man that John was.

Kratos went on a murdering spree of the Gods in the first few God of War games and ultimately lost everything. In the 2018 reboot we see a man who is broken and trying to be done with the violence and we see how much it weighs on him now. He spends pretty much the entire game trying to tell his son that revenge is not the way.

My best advice would be to just get the game and give it a go. Best case scenario, you like it like a lot of the fans of the original game did, worst case, you don't like it. For me this is as good as the first game if not just a bit better even if the story is significantly more depressing at the end (not that the first game had a happy ending either).

Well I will be something of the most direct, I am from Peru and I did not know whether to translate this into English but well, and after the game I could say that it is a masterpiece, I did not know where to start for me the characters are not sincerely forced since Everything has a purpose because it is the story of each one since it feels that not everyone or no one is the bad guy because each one has done too many things like Ellie thanks to his "revenge" that in the end he does not end up doing it and that's when Most of them complained to Neil Druckmann but no one realized that he also wrote the first installment and that it is politically correct for me there is nothing wrong that depends on each one, honestly Ellie's part I did not enjoy it much since I felt that It was wrong and there was a lot of repetition in eliminating enemies, I feel it unsatisfactory and too repetitive, but the game with what it wants to represent is quite good since The Last of Us Part II is what hatred wants to represent. To the depression we had over the ending and the death of Joel, like when Ellie finds herself overwhelmed by not killing Abby, but not many came to understand the ending and that's what bothered others, Ellie gets to learn the lesson where forgive Abby with Lev and in the end Joel, I feel that it was a good ending and just oh that it is also a lesson for us. But i don’t think it they should have killed off one of the most beloved characters in gaming, but it did set the threat of abby and the WLF’s and i think that playing as abby is a different experience to play as the villain , i think that abby plays similar to joel with the combat being similar and she helps lev and yara similar to how joel helped ellie. I am in no way saying that abby is a replacement to playing as joel but i think Naughty Dog did a great job of creating a sequel to the beloved first game. Expand

Expand

I went into this game blind, with only having beaten the first game and avoiding all trailers and reviews. I think the story and character development are amazing, if very intense. I loved Abby's character, and by the time the credits rolled, I identified and empathized with her more than I did Joel or Ellie. I couldn't believe the risks that Naughty Dog took with this game.

Be warned however, as this is the most violent game that I have ever played and makes the first game look pretty tame by comparison. The level of violence coupled with the intense emotion and trauma makes this game NOT for the faint of heart. I'm being serious.

I am docking a point from my rating for one reason: Santa Barbara. That's all I'm going to say. If that chapter was removed, this game would be a 10/10 to me.
