This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

A bleak and sometimes shocking game, would not recommend to people sensitive to fairly graphic violence, violence against animals or scenes of torture. An emotional -if sometimes predictable- plot, the true shine of the story are the characters and their interactions. A fairly more character driven narrative than the first. Expand

Los que querían una historia feliz les digo que esta no es una historia de Disney (La mayoría esta enojado por que mataron a alguien en especial y opinaron antes de tiempo) y eso demuestra que el trabajo está bien hecho.
It is a game that touches reality and teaches you that revenge destroys you and everyone around you. Those who wanted a happy story tell you that this is not a Disney story (most are angry that they killed someone special and gave their opinion ahead of time) and that shows that the work is well done.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I totally understand all the negative reviews for this game. It is NOT for everyone. To be totally honest I enjoyed (not necessarily loved) every Second of the experience TLOU2 brings. It is a heavy, complicated and strangely designed (in terms of plot) masterpiece. That been said, I enjoyed part 2 for totally different reasons compared to part one. The amount of care and craftsmanship invested in this game is unmatched on every level. There is NOTHING, not a game, series or movie managed to steer all these different emotions at one sitting. Life is not black and white, and non of the characters was portrayed as such. That ending though ...... ouch ...... ouch. Why!!!!! Ok Naughty Dog, you told your story. I loved it. Now I hate you For loving it. Make part 3, you still have lots to say to tie all of this together. Good luck doing that under all the pressure from these overwhelmingly negative reviews but o will definitely love it if you finish telling your story. Thanks for all the love and efforts that showed in every small detail in this masterpiece. Expand

If you're having Problems with the Story, you're the problem.
    Abby is NOT the problem.

But a big lack of empathy is whats wrong with today's society.
So it was kind of predictable. And Naughty Dog probably knew that.

This game is beautiful. It's amazing.
It's far from being perfect (In terms of game-play and length), but it's an amazing ride.

Expand

I feel many are hung up on Joel's demise and while that scene was tragic, and could've been handled better, all of the other aspects of the game were flawless. I personally love the dynamics of combat, and (while playing on hard) found survival to be a great challenge. I'm well aware that the ending is very debatable, I found TLOU2 to slightly edge out it's predecessor just because of the content and length of story. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TLOU2 presents a storyline very different but yet extremely similiar to the first game, the game has gotten alot of hate because of ABBY the person who killed joel (main character in a horrific way, people have the problem of being way too soft, this game is unlike any other game ive ever played, the game has so many emotions entitled to it, the game has become so incredibly realistic not in the graphics, but in character behavior and emotion, it shows the frustration of the characters it shows a type of format wich goes with two sides of two characters, 1 evil, 1 good, but as you go on it shows tje humanity and the similarities between the characters, alot of reviewers and fans wanted a game filled with happiness of where u see joel and ellie roaming the USA in such a progressive and fun chill way, but yet aggressive, in TLOU2 its depressibg, the game shows such great writing that it really shows the lack of quality of games these days, in the entire decade only 4 games have stood out to be the best, TLOU, GOW, RDR2 and TLOU2, this game shows such emotion that its hard to believe that this is a video game, the atmosphere, the graphics
the infinite ways to approach a situation, the AI is incredibly unpredictable wich gives you this alive type of feeling, the combat is incredibly realistic showing a real punch, not an incredible jab evrey time u press the pucnh button, the blood that comes out of your enemies that u just slaughtered feels like you actually killed someone, the game is so good i felt like i was in the game, i forgot i was even playing sometimes, so many reviewers keep saying this game is good for some people wich it is, for quality reviewist, it dosent feel like a bland game like i anticipated it would be, its incredibly well written, the game shows real and depressing emotions wich ive never seen before ecxept in the first game, there are numerous flaws but they are minor, the jump button had potential, the puzzles werent good but they werent bad either (ropes felt clonky), the gun play was a pretty normal, it was functional, it flet like a teen was holding the gun, some of the time frames werent coordinated and felt very idiotic but they werent terrible, and some of the characters get introduced 5 hours after you kill them with a pipe, wich feels just lazy but not terrible still, they couldve added a special move where u press 4 different buttons one after another to make a cool kick or something like that, the games hate comes from the main character dying and that you have to play as his killer, unlike other people i had an opened mind even though i fell in love with joel in first game ( ive played TLOU1 about 29 times just because it was so good and im already starting a new walkthrough on the 2nd game) people arent very appreciative of abby and dont try to understand why she did it, hopefully more people give it a second try and realise how good it is, and try to enjoy the game from a more easy and open perspective instead of crying because joel died, it feels like alot of the critics didnt even play the game, i can go on and on defending the game while u could just give it a 2nd try like we did with the 1st game, my rating is a 9.3 it dosent deserve the 0.7 because of the easily fixable flaws.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A stunning game. Visually and mechanics-wise it improves upon everything the first game did right. The attention to detail, atmosphere, artwork, are all spot-on, 10/10. Storytelling-wise, 9/10. The way Naughty Dog did it was bold and unusual, and I dare to say revolutionary. In TLOU 2, the story is stripped of narrational perspective: the thing that makes the heroes get out of a pinch, makes you sympathize with your hero and his ideals. In other words, the plot is indiferent to the two sides of the story: Ellie and Abby. It doesnt favour one or the other. What you get when employing this is a true journey of self-reflection. You can't hold on to anything or anyone, you can't just take the side the story takes because there isn't one. That's the way this game got me feeling. I couldn't hold on to Joel. I couldn't bear to see Ellie hurt, but I couldn't hold on to her either. I could empathize with Abby to some extent, but I couldn't condone her actions and couldn't hold on to her. Everything about this game was heartbreak and despair. The game accomplishes this lack of narrational perspective almost perfectly, but I feel like the Abby side need more reenforcement. We have to have in mind that Ellie was a character with a lot of history and emotional value. She was, therefore, at an advantage. That's where I feel the game failed. The two sides of the story are supposed to be equal, but Abby, because of her narrational disadvantage and lack of internal insight ( by internal insight I mean the "peep" at a person's mind, like Ellie's journal entries), feels too much like a side character. This is, for me, the reason many, while empathyzing with her, didn't care for her enough for that empathy to feel real and meaningful. This is the main reason I give the game a 9.
Now, I can't make a review of this game without addressing Joel's death. At first, I was dumbfounded. On the earliest hours of the game, they killed our dear The Last of Us hero in the most horrible way possible. I thought it was merely for shock value, but it wasn't. You see, the narrative had a problem. How can the game portray the broken relationship between Ellie and Joel? How can you truly have a sense of the tragic, the despair, the hopelesness that they feel? So they kill Joel. They make it even more tragic. Because now they didn't even have the chance to try and fix what they broke. And the storytelling that they got in exchange for Joel's death was breath-taking. They don't tell you the whole thing together. They tell you pieces of it. Flashbacks. Memories. Journal Entried. Photos. And that's the truth about loss. That's all you got of your relationship. And because Joel is dead, you cherish those moments and little things much more intensily, like Ellie does too. So even though I was very sad that Joel died and to this day it sometimes comes back to me, I think it was very very well done. Hats off to Naughty Dog to doing a very risky thing work wonderfully.
This game was loss and injustice portrayed beautifully well. But maybe it wasn't just that. I like to think that, at the end, when Ellie utterly lost everything and everyone, she also found what she was looking for. And that's a very special thing, for game with such a desolating ending, to leave a somewhat uplifting taste in your mouth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us 2 in my opinion is a fantastic game. It has gotten a lot of unnecessary hate because of story events that the majority of people don’t like. People are praising Joel for what he’s done while in reality he’s caused the most deaths by not letting the Fireflies make the cure. His death from the hands of WLF is harsh but justified in their world. We play as Abby and Ellie in the game and people say it does nothing because they don’t like Abby. However, the Abby’s side of the story did so much and put into perspective that both sides of this fight view themselves as the good guys (Ellie trying to avenge Joel’s death and Abby avenging her dads and countless other deaths because of Joel). Also, another complaint that I’ve seen from people is that Abby doesn’t die in the end. However, this ending shows the growth of Ellie the most. While she’s drowning Abby, she flashes back to a scene where Ellie and Joel talking about what happened in the ending of tlou 1. At the end of this scene, Ellie says that she will forgive Joel for what he did and she realizes while drowning Abby that she has to do the same for her. For the gameplay, it’s not as bad as people say it is. The stealth aspect is some of my favorite and gun play feels authentic. Level design does feel off as it blocks you off with small foliage (bushes, branches, etc) but that’s not enough to make me hate the gameplay. Overall, I think the game is fantastic and is receiving a lot of unnecessary hate due to two events that are very good once they’re understood. Expand

Sound. The sound design, and especially the voice acting, is top notch, which brings me to my next pro. Performances. This is without a doubt the best acting and animation I have ever seen in a video game. It's actually mind blowing at times how much you can get from a character without them even saying anything. Game play. Think tlou1, but with small improvements to every single element. Everything just feels more fluid and satisfying, but if you did not like the game play of the first game, then you probably won't enjoy the second either, as it's very similar. Story. Don't worry I'll be vague. Ooook, so here is the big one that is dividing the fanbase. First, this game is very long for a linear story game, almost twice the length of the first, but this is a plus in my eyes. It feels like a huge, emotional journey, and I still can not stop thinking about it, which I think says a lot. However, the story is not as airtight and perfect as the first game, there are more flaws. As far as content goes, just strictly speaking about what actually happens, I loved it. BUT... I feel like the pacing and structure of the story had some major issues. Which brings me to-

Cons. Story pacing and structure. Naughty dog made some really bold and risky decisions with the story, which I personally was very much on board with. There is a roughly 10 hour section of the game that some people either hated altogether or felt was too long. I disagree. I think this section, as well as the length of it, is absolutely necessary for the story to work. My problem with it is the TIMING. The way the story is structured, the timing of when this segment occurs completely destroys the momentum that had been building up, and I really wish it simply happened earlier in the overall story. I actually think that a decent amount of people that hated the story would've liked it, if the structure and timing of events was moved around a bit. There are also a lot of flashbacks, and while some of them are perfectly placed and incredibly touching, others seem to come out of nowhere and don't quite land emotionally. Aaaannnd those are really my only cons with the game. Story content: excellent. Story pacing and structure : messy. I also have one minor con with the game play: scrounging for materials starts to feel tedious by the second half of the game. The first game also had this issue, but it was less noticeable due to the shorter length. Conclusion: story-8.5 gameplay-9 overall experience (not an average) 9/10 For some context, I would rate tlou1 story-9.5 gameplay-8 Thanks for reading my review!
