This game was simply underestimated, but I agree that Abby is really a boring character, and we play too much for her, but still I have never been so influenced by the game, I was even sad about the ending for about a week

worse than the first part of course, but overall a good game.
The plot could be made better, the characters need to be revealed more. Very similar to the AMC series The Walking Dead
My rating is 8 out of 10. I hope in the third part the developers will take into account the wishes of the players and draw the right conclusions!

The best aspect of its predecessor was the story, it has been completely obliterated on this sequel, you can thank naughty dog for ruining such a once epic franchise, well done ND, WELL DONE...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The biggest theme in TLOUII isn’t revenge. It’s not hatred. It’s not loss, or grief, or anger, or any of things it looks to be at first glance. These things still obviously play a huge part in the story; they contribute to the characters’ actions and decisions, and they’re the things that drive the narrative. But they’re not the most important themes for the player.

The most important theme in this game, that I have seen no other game explore in this detail, is perspective. And players who are open-minded and don’t allow themselves to be blinded by their own outlook, will appreciate the game for what it is.

Without perspective, the game is over 2 hours in. You know from the point of Joel’s death where the rest of the story is going, and you know how it ends. You’ll guide Ellie through her revenge mission, and you’ll make Abby pay. Because it’s a video game and that’s how video games work. But TLOUII isn’t any other video game.

You’re proven wrong, time and time again, thinking you’re reaching the end, only to first be given the unexpected second half of the game to play, and then another additional 2 hours on top of that the second time it appears to be coming to a close.

That middle point, where the perspective changes and we start to see things through Abby’s eyes, is uncomfortable. As a player, it was easy to recognise Naughty Dog’s intentions to paint the “villain” in a different light. The goal was to have us eventually empathise with a character who, not 2 hours into the game, had killed a protagonist that we’ve known and loved for seven years. And as a player, I was sceptical it was going to work.

As I did indeed grow to care for Abby, I felt a conflict within myself as I wrestled with what it meant. What did it mean that I was starting to like a character who had done such a horrific thing? It meant that Naughty Dog had accomplished what I can assume was what they intended to do: force me, as a player, to recognise how important perspective is and understand things from both sides.

Was Abby killing Joel any more horrific that Joel killing Jerry? And not to mention, Jerry was killed in the process of Joel committing arguably the most horrific action of The Last Of Us’ story: depriving humanity of a cure. And I like Joel just fine.

To Abby, Joel was the “bad guy” and her reasoning for believing so is the exact same reasoning that Ellie’s perspective brands Abby the “bad guy”. Neither character is “right” while the other is “wrong” and Naughty Dog did an absolutely phenomenal job of blurring that line, leading to my use of quotation marks; who’s “good” and who’s “bad” all depends on perspective.

It was a risky move to place the player in control of someone they’re conditioned to hate from the near outset, and to expect them to come to understand her reasoning and empathise with her, and I can assume that this is the main reason a lot of players have found issue in the game, because for them it didn’t work. But for me personally, it was a powerful experience and I knew that the conflict I felt within myself as Abby grew to become my favourite character in the whole game, was intentional on Naughty Dog’s end.

As far as the ending goes, I’ve seen a lot of people claim that the whole game was “for nothing”, but I think that these are the players who refused to budge on their own perspectives. They’d branded Abby the “villain” from the start and so she was supposed to die. They didn’t get their closure. But Ellie did. Abby did.

That last flashback we get that covers Ellie and Joel’s last conversation is what prompts Ellie to let Abby go. Joel tells her that given the chance to deny humanity a cure again, he’d make the same choice. Ellie remarks that in her sacrifice, her life would’ve had meaning, and that she can’t ever forgive Joel for taking that from her. But that she’d like to try. This opportunity, to grow and find it within herself to forgive Joel, was taken from her when Abby took his life. But if Ellie wants to find it in herself to forgive Joel for doing arguably the worst thing a human being could’ve possibly done, maybe she can find it in herself to forgive the woman who killed him.

In Ellie’s eyes, Joel’s death is given meaning in her decision to be better than him. Joel may make the same decision over and over given the chance, depriving Ellie the opportunity to have her life harbour meaning, but Ellie won’t. She has one chance, and she won’t make the same choice he did. She won’t remove the meaning from Joel’s death, the way Joel removed the meaning from her life.

The whole sequence, the fight, the flashback, and Ellie’s decision to let Abby go was another phenomenal choice that Naughty Dog made in subverting expectations. We’ve all played video games before and we know how they go. but, like I said, TLOUII isn’t any other video game.

The graphics, visual are amazing and the game play is good. The story is a bit all over the place with Abby story after Ellie. I think it would of worked better if they worked along side each other, building up to the fight in the aquarium, but that's just my opinion. I would of also liked Joel in the game more with flash backs or to spend more time with him.

3 star for amazing graphic and fight mechanic so fluid and giving you motive in the game until Abby part. I did not give two rats a#$ about her part but I push on through hoping I can forgive. After beating it I'm disappointed I wasted 60 dollars and two weeks that I cant get back.

The only reason I give this game any sort of rating is because I can see the effort put into the gameplay side of things. But nothing can make this game good because of how bad the story and characters are. Don't even start me on the Joel situation.
Whoever thought let's kill Joel with a female bodybuilder and play as her for half of the game is beyond me. Did you actually think we would bond with this person? The whole time I played as Abby all I could think was I can't wait to see Elle kill you. And did it happen... did it f***. And in the end it was all for nothing..... Well done

The story is perfectly driven, regardless if you like it or dislike it or don't like how it ends and is also by far, the most immersive of any actual game.

But in the case you're not ok with the story, you must be a complete troll or hater to give this game a score below 7, because there's no possible discussion this game is absolutely astonishing in all the other areas.

So just applying common sense, if you have a game with a 10 in 3 of 4 areas, even if the story for you score zero, the average will be 7,5.

Having say that, people given this game scores from zeros to fours are complete nonsense.

But you would have to pay me to play this game again, and that would be a maybe. What they did with the story and how they just bent their knee to the SJWs is just absolutely pitiful. Along with the false advertising, making it seem like Joel was going to be in it more mainly, you just offed him, literary spat on his body, and made us play as his killer. I do not care about Abby, I didn't want to play as them at all after that. You tried to make them look pathetic but you utterly failed at it. And then the ending, I don't think I have to even bring that up because I want to just forget this game. Waste of my money and time. And If you take this review down because of me being either a "Troll" or "Bot". I paid for the game on release, avoided all the spoilers, and tried to enjoy it. While there are shining moments, that usual Last Of Us quality, the overall story and the arc will quickly drop you off, never to pick you up again. It gives you just enough to keep playing, only to result in a journey you wish you never took. Naughty Dog finally dropped the ball. Despite being very solid game in its technology-side, the story should've been the biggest catch especially after Part 1. The user score you see before you is indeed what you get: the fanbase isn't lying.

This game is getting hate in the wrong way like people are homophobic or transphobic and also people just hate the game because a main character is dead that is for some a reason a "hero" even though joel isn't a hero he's just a character that is very well developed that makes us like him but as for his selfish choices he saved ellie but then killed a lot of other people that have done a virus so that doesn't make him hero, now for the gameplay and the story ok so for the gameplay the stealth has really improved and sound effects and the graphics have improved and i'm very happy about that that means they have works a lot obn this game also sthe combat areas make you feel that you are in a city and not in a combat just made to be there and also the combat in there is even scarier than in uncharted 4 the gameplay srsly improved from uncharted 4 it is even bettter than uncharted 4 ok now lets talk about the story so we have ellie, dina, jesse, abby, etc... The narrative in every cut scene is really good the only thing that bugs me is that the flashbacks were not in the right place like some were rushed some of them were supposed to be there, so the character developement is actually good except with yara and jordan they were the least developed best character in the game but the rest are good developed and best developed is lev, best character in the game that i've experienced with this game, so yeah some sections were too long like abby that section was too long, but overall this was a pretty good game i enjoyed the gameplay, i enjoyed the story so yes i didn't waste my money for it 8/10 btw shoutout to all the people who did the graphic and the sound design. metacritic is the worst app to put a review because you can barely see wth are you typing in your review it is the worst that i've seen .

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
