Mechanics wise the same as you'd expect from the first game. No complaints there. Though none of us are playing TLOU for the gameplay, we are here for the story. And the way a major character was killed and the obviously low skilled emotional manipulation involved absolutely destroys this game's value.

Minor pacing issues, still a great game overall. Pretty much comes down to the question if you can accept Abby as a playable character. If not, the game pretty much falls apart. I´m happy I enjoyed her side of the story.

One of the best games of the decade, probably the best of this generation. Technically excellent, the graphic Is the peak on ps4 and the story is unique, brave and moving. A must buy for everyone Who owns a ps4

Our long waited game unfortunately ruined with this story. You feel distant from all the characters at the end of the game. Also, it has been false advertised. If I would know that I play as Abby, I wouldn’t buy it.

First thing first, people got overcarried by the hate coming from the leaks, which were out of context. Now that the game is out and we have proper context to look into it all, it's obvious the writers knew perfectly what they were doing all along and it feels like a really well planned story. But of course some of those youtubers/influencers/whatever are just looking for easy views and bucks, and right now it means hating the game and follow what started with the leaks. You can disagree with the story of course, but not to the extent of sending death threats to the writers, or the actors. That's just wrong and childish, period. No one back then had proper context to judge the game.
Firstly, to me, the game honors Ellie and Joel bonds deeply : you can feel Joel's presence all the way during the first half of the game, and seeing how Ellie does take care of a whole militia brings back memories of how Joel would have done it. She has the same moves. She has the same way (and of course, you do as a player) of wiping enemies. At one point during the game Dina says to Ellie "where did you learn how to do that ?" and she answers "Joel taught me". This is a testimony of how Joel affected Ellie, and yourself as a player. The flashbacks are here to remind you constantly of that special bond. It culminates when Ellie tries to do the same map trick Joel taught her, but it backfires on her, because she's not him. And Ellie's own failures end up in killing a pregnant woman. That's why she hates Abby so much (who seems to be successful and invicible to Ellie at that point of the game - but of course she isn't given how she loses everything and how she ends up enslaved).
Secondly, people can't stand the fact Joel died. But Joel made that terrible choice at the end of the first game of saving Ellie at all costs. He put this on himself. And he then got soft because of the safety provided by Jacksonville and because of the redemption he found with having Ellie. You can feel it all the way during the prologue. They ALL got careless, forgetting how dangerous the world can be. There are tons of details for it : the reports on how many infected they killed during patrols (filled with smileys and jokes, even Joels after a while), the way they bring people in Jacksonville, Joels house (when you visit it, you can feel the guy has turned soft because he has Ellie in his life and he found redemption : he has an artistic soul again, given how much time he's been spending carving wood and playing guitar - things that felt meaningless to him in the first part - I couldn't believe Joel has such a sensitive soul inside given how he had to hide it all after what happened to his daughter and what he had to do to survive during those 20 years. But of course he had to switch off that survivor mentality for it).
Now about Abby (who also plays as a Moby Dick for Ellie until the end). First, the thing her dad says when he tells her he would do just as Joel to save her even if her death would prevent humanity for getting a cure was a way to tell her we all have flaws, and so does she as she was blinded by hate for Joel. Then, the game takes a huge turn when Lev and Yara come around, it takes a whole different step because ultimately, as she says, she chooses their side over the Wolves or the Scars. That's the defining moment (on the island) when I started really caring about Abby. What matters most is the individuals, not the group logic and systemic way of dealing with things (rings any bells to how people flamed this game despite having played it or explored it enough ?). You have to look into individuals and not judge them depending on which group they're a part of (and btw, Ellie comes to the same conclusion when she writes in her diary while in Santa Barbara : "Fireflies, Scars, Wolves... f*** them all" ; she's on the same mental process as Abby, Abby just being ahead a bit). That's a wonderful character development and morale. And btw : Abby DOES show remorse and is tortured by what she did. The nightmares didn't go away with Joel's death. And Laura Bailey plays it perfectly when she kills Joel : she has seconds of hesitation and you can feel her vulnerability. Of course she's too consumed by it to show it directly. And I like to think Yara and Lev is a way for her to find purpose again and to redeem for what she did.
The game doesn't give you anything easy and you actually have to dig deep into it to get your answers. You have to read diary logs, you have to listen to all of the conversations, you have to look into the environment to get it all. It doesn't treat you like a 5 years old, spoonfeeding you easy answers to make you feel better. I've never seen a game this detailed and well carved. I've never seen a game making me think over and over things, and to think about how we react as human beings.

This game is...the most affected i have been by a games story since...maybe ever. The way the narrative rises and falls in a cyclical motion mirroring the cycles of hate and more importantly forgiveness present with its characters. I can understand why some people may not enjoy this game the entire way through, but personally i don't think that's the point.

You are supposed to hate certain characters and certain moments and the beauty of the game is that it tests your ability to forgive in those situations. The game itself is almost a social experiment, testing how far you would go and wether or not you can learn to empathize with others despite possible wrongdoings.

Not to mention this game's combat mechanics are top notch, and the graphics may be the best I've seen to date. Every character here feels realized wether they spend much time with you or not. The level designs are varied and interesting, and the new weapon customizations are awesome.

If you have been paying attention to these scores for users they have gone up from a 3 to a 5 now that more people have actually beaten the game and seen the story play out. It's not an easy game to get through, it's emotionally draining at times. But for those who can handle the intense violence and complex themes the world of The Last of Us has to offer, this game is a MUST play. Game of the year 2020 right here.

The game does not improve on the gameplay department. 7 years later and we got a story that tries to make you feel bad for not supporting lesbian/trans. it tries too hard to push that agenda. A big disappointment for those of us that waited all these years expecting an improvement but instead we got a game that we wish would have been fine to never have been made in the first place. Characters in the game you don't care about unlike TLOU1. Just a sad game all the way through from beginning to end where as the first game you have some heart felt moments. Expand

Amazing game with a great story, The gameplay did not really change from uncharted 4, its the sme type of hide and seek combat, but on higher difficulties it's a real blast to play, because you actually have to use all these gears and navigate trough the map. The graphics are amazing of course, i feel like i dont even have to say this at this point. From a technical standpoint, it's objectively one of the best games ever made. Now, the Story is much more subjective, but honestly, I really enjoyed it.

    SPOILERS
Ellies and Abby's story are two acts of the same path told with two different characters and I think it's a great idea well executed. Ellie's is a story of misguided anger and blind vengance. When we switch to Abby's perspective, her revenge is over and we see that she is still not satisfied and her friends give her **** about the brutal killing of Joel. Her side is a story about redemption and it heavily paralels Joels journey from the first game. I disagree with the common argument that Joel's death was shock value. That would mean that it meant nothing, but that is just simply not true. Its a vital part of both characters journey and serves as the catalyst of the story.

A lot of people say that the order of events is poorly constructed and we should've seen Abby's side before she kills Joel, but in my opinion that wouldnt work, because for the first part of the game to work we have to feel the same blind anger that ellie feels.
At first I was really annoyed that I have to play as Abby, but they managed to humanize her enough for me to like her.

I can understand why people have such strong opinions on this game. (in my opinion) A lot of the story moments are justified and the characters we hate are humanized in such a way that you are able to understand why they made particular choices and where they come from. The pacing definitely has issues. Some of the scenes should have been placed before others (if that makes sense). TheI can understand why people have such strong opinions on this game. The environments are so meticulously detailed and the gameplay blows the 1st game's gameplay out of the park. Naughty dog was brave to try something new and i understand why people are decisive about it. But i respect naughty dog for taking tough decisions. This isn't the best naughty dog game, its not even close, but I think that this is a pretty good game in my eyes. There are a few plot holes and the pacing was all over the place but thats not the end of the world for me(not pun intended). I think that it should be understood that revenge isn't the story of this game, its the plot. Ill be checking out new game plus on a harder difficulty. Expand

I cannot imagine Naughty Dog getting one more ounce than they got out of the PS4 and the game looks absolutely gorgeous. This is not a story with your run of the mill happy endings and at times it can be very grim, sometimes pulling your feels right out from underneath you, and you cannot help but feel exactly what Neil Druckmann and the rest of the team want you to feel. This level of story telling has never been seen in any other franchise and Naughty Dog definitely did not hold any punches in The Last of Us Part II. You care about the characters and you feel for them and the relationships as you have become invested since the first game.

The game play mechanics are no slouch either as they just have such a high degree of polish and you really feel empowered to handle situations however you please. After beating the game on the highest difficulty for my first playthrough, I will admit this game tests you problem solving skills and your patience. The dogs in certain parts are no joke! The game is all around impressive and really sets the standard for the industry competing with only games like God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2. It is really a work of art and tugs at your heart strings throughout its entirety. While I do not feel as though it deserves anything less than a 9.5 and I truly believe God of War is my only 10/10 this generation, I feel obligated to give this game a 10/10 as well because of the detail and Naughty Dog's ability to deliver on a level of story telling that you just do not hardly see. The Last of Us Part II is the perfect mixture of telling an extraordinarily compelling story that is unpredictable and extremely polished gameplay that makes you feel so dangerous. I don't really subscribe to the accolade of "Game of the Year", because I feel games are so unique that they should not be leveraged against one another. However, I would definitely have to pick the Last of Us Part II if I had to pick a 2020 Game of the Year or 2020 Must Play Game. Truly a work of art!

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
