I can say that I've finished the game and waited about a week for my thoughts to set in. And to be honest, I really liked it. And for a game to take around 20-30 hours, I would go as far as to say that nobody actually played the game and only read the online leaks that were posted about a month prior. The leaks on their own sound pretty bad, and it does sound like lazy and awful writing, but in the context of the story, I promise you it makes perfect sense. The themes of the game is what make it so incredible, it's ultimately about how characters deal with grief, actually even part 1 was about dealing with grief, so anyone who says this game is untrue to the original, clearly hasn't played the game. Naughty dog take a very bold choice with the story and it really puts you into Ellie's mindset with the feeling of pure hatred, but the genius of it all is when they show you the other side to the story. This is when you start becoming conflicted and you actually start to empathise with people you really think you wouldn't. Personally I prefer the first game, but this wasn't a disappointment at all. The reason it's not a 10 for me is because of some pacing issues towards the middle of the game and I preferred the general story of the first game as that was near perfection. A great sequel from Naughty Dog and looking forward to what they next bring to the table. Expand

The story line seemed to continue where the last one left off.... early death of the father figure was both rushed and telegraphed in - and what followed became predictable ...... Its like we need to be told that doing bad stuff is bad mmmkay? Seriously this game makes got season 8 looks like a masterpiece. Then it turns into Dexter season finale.

The force you to play the character that kills Joel - and just force feed you her story...when you already know what happens to everyone in her story. They try to make you feel back about the things you've already done - and it doesn't work.

30 hours later - I give nearly zero fcks about Abby and her crew. The interesting characters get killed off and we're left with a shallow, on the nose story line and 3 characters surrounded in plot armor.

I'm giving it a 0 - even though it's like a 6-7 because I want to send a clear message to any developer in the future trying to pull this nonsense again.

It's entirely possible to make a game sequel without **** all over the original.
Those left behind - amazing. The last of us 1 - amazing. This? We deserve better. 20 hours of playing as a character I don't care about. They forced

In some sort of attempt to make it original it's...ironically...some of the most cliched and infuriating story choices i've ever played, playing certain sections just made me want to put down the controller and turn off my PS4.

Positives are that it looks amazing, the locations are truly incredible. It sounds amazing and has some decent gameplay (besides the nigh constant resource scavenging which is infuriating), but doesn't improve too much over Part 1.

However, that alone doesn't excuse this mess, don't listen to the IGN's etc, that call this a masterpiece...it's not, not even if you are a fan of part 1...which is a true masterpiece.

Neil Druckman, if you are seriously proud of this story, then you shouldn't be allowed to make any more games.

I can't believe we had to wait 7 years for this joke...I wish i could erase Part 2 from my memory and believe that there isn't a sequel. Don't buy this game, just pretend the end of Part 1 is the end of this story.

In the end, everyone reconciled and just waited. But then the irreparable happened, a lot of videos from the game were leaked, whole cutscenes, fights, etc. I think that this is the reason for all the misfortune that this game faced. For many people, torn scenes from the context gave them an erroneous opinion about the whole product. All this, of course, fueled the integration of LGBT people into the game (which, in fact, does not matter much in the game), and this topic has been very problematic in recent years. I am sure that the studio and Neil knew that this would happen and consciously took a risk. However, Ellie and her story have been crushingly criticized. I hope that in the future, people will learn to criticize a product only after they are fully acquainted with it.

I have been waiting for the game for 5 years and for me it is not just a hobby, it is a personal story into which I was drawn. And I waited, waited patiently, but then leaks that were impossible to get away from (social networks, YouTube and everything else is an integral part of life now). And it really ruined my impressions, I was very upset. But despite this, I enjoyed this incredible story for 30 hours. About which I will say only a little. The plot is not something unique, we have already seen this in world cinema, but the presentation itself and how we learn the history from all sides makes this game beautiful. And it is heartbreaking, however, all as promised to us, only pain, revenge and a circle of violence.
Everyone will always find cons for themselves, but really something that spoils the game is not here. If Naughty Dog were asked what I didn’t like in the game, I would only remember about the NPC that sometimes interferes with passing and about enemies who do not always act logically.
Summing up, I want to say that I am grateful to the studio, to every person who worked on this incredible game. I do not stop watching a video about development, listening to podcasts, and watching early Art in Istagram. Thank you very much for everything.
Despite the huge damage from the spoilers, I can still say that the game broke my heart and in the end I cried. I think that was exactly what was intended so that the story of Ellie would destroy not only her, but also us, the last of us.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sometimes it take more than just play a game to understand it. The game not only is beautiful and the gameplay nice, the story makes you question choices and the path that you take. To acknowledge the greatness of this game you have to put aside your resentment playing as Abby and even though it’s easier to hate her and to want to see her dead, it’s a good reflection on humanity and the ability to understand each other. You don’t have to like her, nor forgive her. But you seriously lack empathy if you can’t understand her motives for what she’s done. The story is great in the sense that they didn’t sugarcoat anything and they stay truthful to what they wanted to tell as a story. Many games are too politically correct and lack strong statements. This one doesn’t and that’s why people have a hard time with it. It’s not what they wanted to see. The game is accused of being political and being propaganda for the lgbtq+ community among other things. Well if you think that you are too immature and too close minded to play grownup games.
The game is about hate, you’re not supposed to love it like you love playing animal crossing or fortnite. It’s supposed to make you feel anger and sadness and hate and grief. That’s precisely what makes it a great game. It’s not a perfect game but at least it takes risks and talks about important matters such as regret, love, hate, hope and redemption.
They are some big negative aspects of course like the fact that Abby and the other wolves aren’t very likeable or the events order could have been changed to help some players build a bit of empathy. Truth is I don’t like any of them either but I know enough with the little back story that has been given to us that they aren’t bad people to the core.
Finally the ending left me unsatisfied and even if I wished for a happier ending, a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel, I’m happy they didn’t give In stayed on the path they chose, telling you there’s no happy ending for revenge.

Combat feels fluid, tactical and exhilarating. It has the same brutal impact of the original’s, mixed with an increased variety of ways to approach scenarios with some thrilling results. The environments are some of the most detailed in any game I’ve experienced and the graphics are some of the best on either console or PC. The music and sound design are also stand out along with the brilliant acting and mo-cap from the likes of Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey and Troy Baker who breath such life into their characters. The story has proven to be incredibly divisive but I really feel its one of the strongest parts of the game. It drew me in completely and I just had to keep playing as I was desperate to know how it would all come to an end.

A story driven game has to have good writing, few plot holes, and consistent characters. I was very disappointed By the lack of heart this game had. NOTHING is a forced agenda it all felt very natural. I think you have to play this game to give it a review. Everything's explained and you actually become sympathetic towards abby even when she killed Joel which is something i was adamant i wasnt going to do as i loved Joel. The ups and downs of how you feel towards, ellie and abby is very challenging and i havent played a game like it since Heavy rain. Overall one of my favourite game and im sad to see its been given such bad reviews by people who have never played it just because they are butt hurt about a leak.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Obviously the user score isn't reflective of the quality of the game itself, but rather the projected insecurities of those that haven't even played it. When the game was leaked, people criticized it for the way that they disrespectfully killed off Joel or how Abby is supposedly trans. Now that the game is out, all of those points just seem to fizzle away. The truth is there, plain and simple... Naughty dog made an incredible game. They killed off Joel early on in a brutal way but the reasoning behind that was expanded upon later on. I had seen people stop playing or give up the game at that point, even going so far as destroying their disk. Those people will miss out on the context and expansion of Joel's character via the various flashback exposition moments between Ellie and Joel in the off moments between Part 1 and 2. Joel is a fantastic character, an excellent father figure, but a **** awful human being for what he decided to do to save Ellie. He shot up a hospital, killed Marlene, killed the only medical professionals that could have created a cure for all of the innocent people left alive, just for him to have his daughter figure still in his life. Over the course of the first game as you progress by killing dozens of people but those were usually cases of self defense, the moment Joel first killed in Seattle, he was strictly on the offensive and a lot of people were desensitized to the fact that he was killing due to them just being random enemies just like every other encounter. The Last of Us Part 2 expands on that by humanizing the WLF. While brutal, they're still humans that are just trying to survive. They appear to be backpacked survivors just like Joel and Ellie, they call each other by name, they get devastated upon discovering the bodies of one of their friends/comrades/dogs that have been slaughtered by you or the Scars. This new perspective simply expands on what you're really facing and if you're really the good guy in the story. It's highly debatable if what Joel and Ellie do in the games that would be considered "right" but those lines become more apparent the more you kill. Joel was a selfish monster that let his own feelings of losing a daughter again take over, dooming humanity. I've discussed this with others and people came up with the argument that Joel had finally found something worth fighting for and living for in a game where it constantly was showing you that humanity was beyond redemption or repair. The more you see Jackson thriving in the second game, you see that a chance at a normal life was a reality that nobody had considered and that a vaccine would have saved so many innocent lives of civilized people. Ellie begins to follow in Joel's footsteps by murdering every one in her path in order to enact vengeance against anyone involved in the death of Joel. An emotional, irrational, response to people that were perfectly in their rights to hunt down a mass murderer of innocent doctors and civilians looking to better the world. Sure it may feel cathartic and satisfying to hunt down these people and get your revenge but that difference in perspective gets thruster onto you when you begin to play as Abby. You peer into the lives you've destroyed or devastated in the events of the first game and you see that you're not the hero that your protagonistic bias has led you to believe. You're becoming the horrifying monster that Joel was, and in that the game's message became clear. This is the circular path that revenge will always be. Abby understands it better than Ellie which is why Abby leaves Ellie alive TWICE. Which brings me to my second point, as of the release of the game the leaks were wrong in the regard that Abby is trans. She's not and that was confirmed. Regardless of if she was trans or not, it was clear just how much spite people had towards a character like her. She's not pretty and she's not meant to be pretty and it pissed people off that they're forced to play as "the ugly villain". I won't even begin to address the hatred against transgender individuals being the motivator for so many negative reviews because that's not a valid point to be making. Abby is muscular, built like a fridge with those broad shoulders. We see in the flashbacks she wasn't always that way, but after the death of her innocent father she trained hard to be able to be strong enough to kill the man who killed him. Sure she might not be the most relatable character you've ever played in a video game, but her perspective was necessary to tell this two incredibly different sides to the same story. You're not meant to like her, you're meant to understand her. The game itself I feel had expanded quite nicely while staying true to the gameplay of the first. The controls were familiar but with an accessible expansion of convenience in terms of weapons and crafting. The strongest commendation I'd give is the sheer attention to detail when it comes to storytelling and gameplay. Expand
