First off, I can't understand why so many Critics gave The Last of Us: Part II a 100 Rating... Nothing about the game could be improved, noting at all? its just so perfect? I find that hard to believe. Same goes with all of the 0 ratings from the User Reviews. Nothing could be worse?

    Graphics 10/10
I think it was absolutely great, there was several times where I stopped just to take in the scenery. Its not often I find myself to just stop and enjoy something visual in a game.

    Mechanics 8/10
I enjoyed being able to upgrade your weapons, traits, and then crafting useful tools to assist you with the enemies. Breaking glass to get into a room that is locked. Crawling on the ground to get to different places even to hide sometimes. What i didn't like was, every encounter was like TAP SQUARE to get out of a situation. About 1/3 into the game I found my self hitting square before it was even promoted to do so. I wished it was switched up with other buttons or actions. The AI, I feel could have been a bit better.

    Story 6/10
    So much to say.

I never seen any of the leaks, and still haven't, but I had a feeling the story would revolve around Ellie getting revenge for the death of Joel. The reveal trailer had Joel coming from a white light type background and then when it was confirmed by Neil Druckmann that Ellie was the "only playable character." So it didn't surprise me that Joel was killed. The way Joel is murdered, it felt like Ellie deserves to get revenge. All though she had been resenting to Joel for two years before. That is when she learns what really happened at the end of the first game.

The slap to the face came after knowing what has happened your forced to play as Abby, the one that kills Joel. At that point I wanted to stop playing because I simply did not care about her story or her background. After a while I did understand why she wanted killed Joel, but not enough for me to care or overlook it. I found dying as Abby to be satisfying, especially when as Abby you have to fight Ellie. The first several "attempts" I walked out in the open just to let Ellie kill Abby.
From a story telling perspective your player base shouldn't want to die playing as one of the main characters. It was such a disconnect for me from the game. I think it would have been better to tell most of the story (other than the ending) in a different order, such as building Abby's character before she kills Joel.

The ending was mostly a waste in my opinion. After Abby lets Ellie live for a second time only because a supporting character that you save as Abby is there. She goes off to live on the farm with Dina (which you find out is pregnant early on in your search for Abby) and her baby. At least ten months have passed since the last encounter with Abby, and it seems like Ellie has moved on. Or at least one would think until Tommy shows up with information on Abby's whereabouts. Ellie then decides again that she must get revenge for Joel at the cost of her and Dina's relationship. Ellie saves Abby from torture and possibly death so she could fight Abby one on one. During the fight Abby bites off two of Ellie's fingers at which point Ellie goes to drown Abby to ultimately let her go free, out of nowhere. in ten plus hours of playing as Ellie there is no hint that Ellie would let Abby live. It comes out of the blue, out of left field. In the end Ellie's quest for revenge left her with nothing. Dina and he child is gone, not to mention one of her friends killed at the end of her quest to find Abby. As well a missing two fingers hindering her abilities to play the guitar (that Joel gave her) and leaves it behind in the empty house. I guess its supposed to be her finally moving on and having closure.

I sorta get that Ellie is supposed to "end the cycle of revenge." However who is not to say the hundreds if not thousands of people that Ellie kills on her way to get to Abby, that their loved ones wouldn't want to seek out Ellie and kill her. That is quite literally what happened to Joel.

I feel like the whole game rely on you believing what Joel does at the end of the first game was horribly wrong. So that you can get past Joel's death and accept Abby's actions. It make me think that Naughty Dog wants to expand the Last of Us series beyond Ellie and Joel to tell other stories. However the game was marketed heavily on Ellie and Joel and kept Abby a secret, I think just to sell the game.

This is a story driven game and I believe it falls to deliver what they was trying to accomplish. For me that is half the score. The game is just okay, nothing to write home about.

Unfortunately, the game is bogged down by a story that suffers greatly. The pacing is weak, character development is very poor, and feels forced and unfufilling. The first is a masterpiece of storytelling, and unfortunately the sequel does not do it justice. Plot points are forgotten, or poorly handled, as well as the ending being extremely lackluster and void of reason. There are many who rate the game so low simply because of certain themes, but when playing the game itself, these 'SJW" themes are non-existent and handled very well. Overall, The last of us two is an incredible game, with a poor and lazy story. If you're a fan of the first, or love the world itself, I would recommend it for the experience itself, only when the game is eventually on sale. Overall, it is a technical marvel, but will be remembered for it's poor storytelling which does a disservice to The last of us brand, which should have been left alone after the first installment. Great technical achievement. Worst story ever, period. They made this game without purpose. All this game had to do was to give us a sequel. The search for a solution, the vaccine, or even Joel seeking for redemption, whatsoever. Not even hard to do.

This game challenges you mentally, and it’s not a story for people who are easily confused, or are not open to new experiences. Naughty dog, has yet again created another masterpiece.

I jsut like the last of us 1 a lot and thought the last of us 2 would be the same - with better graphics and an an amazing storyline - but then everything changed........in a way that is irrational and illogical.

Expand

I was furious about it. However after finishing the game, I accepted it. Accept that anything can happen to even someone that's strong. Some billionaires even fall and lives on the streets now. So why can't a video game character like Joel make mistakes?? Even if people are furious about the fact that he died too early. The character development for everyone else were amazing. The ending was another level of amaziness. Even though the game has some minor set backs., But it's still hands down one of the best games in gaming history. Naughty dog has done it again. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Is this game Controversial?  Yes.  Is this game going to make you feel very Uncomfortable at times?  Also, yes.  Is this game Good?  In my opinion, Heck Yes!  And here is why...

This highly-anticipated game carried with it tremendous pressure to deliver something that fans would love and which honored its predecessor - an almost unanimously loved game with equally loved anti-heroes in Joel and Ellie.  I'm truly sad to hear if you feel let down by this game because I can imagine how disappointing that would feel for me.  However, I loved this game, and I honestly cannot fathom anyone giving this game lower than a 7/10 - even if they hated the plot (a sentiment that many have been vocal about).  Let's talk about why I feel this way:

Graphics - 10/10 The game is visually stunning.  There are many times I paused my gameplay just to be still and admire the detail in the scenery.  In classic Naughty Dog fashion, attention to details such as 1. Footprints in snow/dust/blood.  2. Dripping of water from clothing.  3. Facial expressions of the playable character changing based on environment/action.  4. Unique interactions with the environment such as looking over your shoulder when walking up stairs backward.

Gameplay - 9/10 I found the gameplay significantly more enjoyable even than TLOU Part 1.  The addition of squeezing through cracks in the wall made evading or sneaking up on enemies more fluid.  Dogs who can smell your scent trail made attempted stealth turn into sudden shootouts and chases.  And the Stalkers!  OMG these things really tighten up the ol' sphincter when they jump out at you!  I can't give this a 10 because I found some of the "looting" a bit annoying after a while because it distracts from the story.  There is a setting to automatically pick up loot, and turning this on has made things much more enjoyable.

Story - 9/10 Writing - 10/10 Okay - Story vs Writing.  If I explained to you the plot of Star Wars: A New Hope, that is the story.  Now I ask you to write the script for this plot - that is the writing.  I totally understand why people would have an issue with the Story.  I love Joel and Ellie, and it was painful to see Joel die that way... and WAY more painful to see Ellie make the choices she does as well.  And the game took a big risk by having us play as Abby and relive Seattle from her perspective.  This isn't the story I wanted or asked for - but I genuinely appreciated traveling down this road and will not soon forget the experience.  The characters are complex and their story arcs are satisfying and real.  The writing is being bombed in reviews and I don't understand that.  Think about all the conversations and dialogue these characters have.  Each interaction develops character relationships and gives insight into the character dynamics - all while feeling like natural conversations.  Compare this to other games where dialogue is repeated in an unnatural way by NPCs.  TLOU truly feels more grounded.  Joel and Ellie's trip to the Dinosaur/Space museum is the new "giraffe moment" from part 1 - and it makes us feel ALL the feels.  It is a testament to the writing that spending time with Manny and Abby actually changed my mind about how strongly I disliked them both in the beginning.  And I love that the game handled the consequences of Joel's actions head-on in this game.  Joel lied to Ellie, and Ellie sensed this.  As sad as I am to see Joel die, it made his truthful moments with Ellie as he came clean even more powerful.

Voice Acting - 10/10 This game has a star-studded cast.  Heavyweights like Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Baily deliver flawless performances - in addition to smaller roles like Isaac (voiced by Jeffrey Wright) leaving such an impression when he is only in 2 scenes!  Compare this to other AAA video games and nothing holds a candle to the performances here.  Each of the actors did an amazing job.

In conclusion - I would recommend that you play this game in its entirety.  I loved it.  It tells a unique story of love, loss, and consequences.  Love or hate the story, the team at Naughty Dog deserves respect for another groundbreaking game.

I know the game has it flaws like, the spacing, and when how they told the story it fells like they put all of the script out of order. But at the end of the day I appreciate the risky approach they took to this game and I think people gotta stop calling it trash because Joel died. Speaking of that I wouldn’t have hated if Joel died another way. I hate how he got Tiger Woods all the way outta here. And I don’t know why they decided to try to make people like Abby. I thought they should’ve not done that. And I also think they should’ve gave one of the most beloved video game characters a heroic death. But at the end of the day the game has amazing gameplay and graphics I don’t give a **** how bad pewdiepie convinces you the games trash I like the game. Expand
