-One of the best looking games I’ve ever played
    -Level design
    -Shootouts/Melee

    Cons:
-Second half is a snooze fest
    -Only one stealth kill animation
    -Story is lackluster
-No upgradeable storage for ammo and most supplies

I really enjoyed the first 7 or 8 hours, I loved exploring Seattle when first arriving and checking things off the map. Unfortunately that is short lived and there are no more open map sections of the game. The stealth system in the game is ok, but the stealth takedown is SO repetitive, how in the hell did they only give each character 1 stealth takedown animation? Not being able to do a stealth takedown with your melee weapon is a total bummer as well.

The whole Abby play through was such a drag and I felt most of it was a pointless time filler and would of been better off as a dlc. Overall pretty bummed but it definitely has a couple great moments. Wait for it to go on sale.

This is the most pretentious unlikable game ever made. It's not fun but instead actively uncomfortable

If anything, this "non-game" should be a wake up call to how far removed mainstream critics are from the players.

Cinematic experience on rail that is not fun might be okay for media contributor that only needs to go through this thing lightly once, but is that what ordinary players that don't have a philosophy degree want?

Don’t believe the brigading incel mob. The mechanics are updated. The visuals are bigger, pushing the ps4 to it’s max. After playing it back to back with remastered, the improvements are jaw dropping.

The difference, and why this has 9x the (spam) reviews of huge games like God of War, is there’s a gay female protagonist. That makes some dudes really really mad.

Amazing Game and outstanding experience. Do not know what people rate it so low. Plot is full of twists, great characters and unpopular decisions which make this title one of the best Games in Playstation.
    Great job Naughty Dog !

It would be a lie to say the game isn't somewhat impressive from a technical POV but all of that is undermined by the totally failure of the story.
The story, that let's face is the main feature of the TLOU games is borderline insulting to the players intelligence with on purpose backwards writing , where if the character of Abby had been introduced properly before the main catalyst event

But no, it was made terrible on purpose and the produces almost brags about it.
Would give the game without the story 7/10.

***TL;dr An accurate synopsis of this game and how the writing is like that of a five year old
" 2 angy women no like ech over, but is frends at end bcose vilence am naughty"

Where to even start with this game, 7 years in the making yet it feels like the entire story, if you can even call it that was written by a 7 year old.

In a wave of yearly, tired, predictble, easily forgotten triple A titles, the last of us set itself apart and gained practically universal appraise because of the characters. The world was interesting, the graphics were beautiful, but what made it different to other big titles churned out was how it handled the characters. In the first game you played as two damaged characters in a post apocalyptic world, learning about each other, fighting both infected and humans, the apocalypse was a back drop to the genuine growth and development of these 2 much loved characters. We played as a man who lost his daughter, his only reason to live, we saw him thrown into situations where both humans and infected were trying to kill him, we watched him overcome depression, we watched him form a bond with a girl who would become an adoptive daughter figure to him. We played as ellie, an orphan growing up in a post apocalyptic world, who is inexplicbly immune to the virus, who at a young age experience enough dark crap that she had justified trust issues, we saw as she opened up and grew to trust in joel.

Then after almost a decade the second game comes along and removes everything that made the first game so iconic. Joel is killed before he gets any screen time, and he is not killed for world building, or to make room for other characters to come and develop and grow, he was not killed to set up an interesting plot, he was killed for cheap shock value story telling. In a world with infected, raiders, military, mercenaries, communities, cannibals, cults, religious fanatics there were a million different ways they could have introduced new struggles for these characters, instead they used the easiest, most simplistic trick in the book.

In 2 you play as 2 characters
Ellie, but not like ellie in the first game, this version does not grow or change or learn, she is angry woman with nothing past the surface level rage.
Abby, a cope/paste version of ellie, a woman who has the exact same one and only personality trait that ellie has, that has the same one and only predictible driving force that ellie has, but unlike ellie she has no history with the player, she has no endearing or redeeming features and again there is nothing past the surface level rage.

As for the actual "story" it is a predictible, boring revenge story, but even that is not done right, If they wanted to do a predictible revenge story it would not have been as successful as the first game, but it would still be more time in this world, with those characters and would still be enjoyable. But, nope, naughty dog decided instead to have us play with 99.9% of the screen time watching this revenge story unfold only for it to end with one character completely changing her personality on a dime, in a perfect example of utterly lazy deus ex machina writing.

All this means that the players are left watching an uninspired, forgetabble, awful revenge story unfold only to end with the most anti climactic, pious, self righteous, holier-than-thou, "revenge is bad kids, mmmmkay" message, that resolves nothing and feels completely empty.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wanted to kill Abby, and I did everything I could to kill Abby. But sometimes you learn about perspective. And you say “I am not Joel or Ellie or Abby. I am me. The reason why I love this game is because it doesn’t do what i want but does things I live with.” I didn’t want to kill Jerry. He’s just a doctor trying to save the world. I would have shot in in the leg or incapacitated him in a different way. But Joel didn’t want to do that. Joel wanted to make sure that this Firefly project would never be possible again. And he did that, betting his last bit of luck that when he burst through those doors, Ellie would still be alive — and she was. It’s hard to admit, but Joel won. Expand

I am about 4 hours in and I am amazed with how well they did this game.

Ignore the 0's that are spamming the reviews.

I would give 8/10 but since there are so many 0's for no reason I am giving a 10 to even out.

I am absolutely delighted! It's just a masterpiece. I perfectly understand why this game has either 0 or 10. It has been a long time since I had such a wow effect. For me, the second part is several times better than the first. Developers, you are simply the best. And please do not listen to the sugary girls who give you 0. Keep up the good work.

"If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself". Un grand jeu video, que dis-je, une grande oeuvre, 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Where do we start, this game is a mess. The storyline absolutely ruined my fun, it's lazy written and tries a bit to hard to be ''edgy''. IT's depressing as hell. Especially how they treat Joel is absolutely baffeling.

The game play gets quickly boring, it's the same over and over again and barely an evolution of the previous.

The music and grafix is beautiful tho. So points for that.

I'm giving this game a 10. I thought a lot about the games I played over the last ~35 years and this is clearly one that belongs in the pantheon of greats. Naughty Dog aren't in their own league, they're in their own universe.

On display is cinema-grade scripting and performance. The game delivers characters that are meaningful and resonate emotionally. The gameplay is slick and polished, while the combat feels heavy and consequential in a way few games come close to matching. Everything is wrapped-up in an industry-leading presentation, with graphics, visual design, and sound that will leave your jaw on the floor. The content provided is incredibly generous for a narrative experience—with even a quick first play-through lasting around 25 hours (mine was over 32 hours).

The plot has come in for some particular—and wholly unjustified—criticism. At this level of storytelling characters are conflicted and not all plot threads lead to a happy end. The very plot devices that have been criticised by others can be found in some of the greatest works of literature ever produced.

In the end, I think people will eventually come to view TLoU2 in a similar light to Empire Strikes Back. Yes, it's the "slower, more philosophical one with an open ending", but once the trilogy is complete everyone will understand that this is where the real meat of narrative arc lies.

Great in so many ways. The team behind the game did an awesome job, but the story is not that believable or likable, and if there is no player choice or agency (like in Telltales, KOTOR, Divinity Original Sin), then the story needs to hit better. So many parts of it seemed forced, focusing on telling a revenge story rather than the characters personality. They make decisions out of character. Some writers ask how will their characters react to situations and go from there, others have a situation / goal and make the characters fit it even if it goes against the characters personality. This is the later. Having said this, other parts were great. Wish a different game or a different story had been told using the same assets & characters. Expand

This Story is just insulting... they could have at least done these big character changes and events in a meaningful way. It just feels so cheap and dumb. Gameplay and Graphics are okay but nothing special for such a title. How can this game get anything over 70.. They must have not played the first one or any other Thirdperson Storyfocused game. Just play Tomb Raider and skip this.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
