It is a really bad, disgusting, dark storyline. I have been waiting for this game for 6 years already, and just waiting for this kind of plot? I can not accept it. I strongly suggest Naughty dog to change the story plot like selective storyline. People can choose whatever they like, and I believe that most of big fans in this game tend to a happy ending~~~~~~~~~~

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly. This sequel has disappointed my expectations of this game. Its storytelling was mixed and confusing. The combat was plain boring. It took the fun out of me playing when you travel through missions and you have to try to comprehend Exactly whats going on between the players. The ending was so confusing. I atleast expected elle to get revenge from such a a horrible character. The game even expects you to play as the character that killed joel. I had no sympathy for abby because it made no sense why we have to play as the villian. Akward sex scene by the way which involved infidelity and fetishin intentions. Overall, i couldnt understand why neil drukman had to do this alone. You know you cannot leave kids playing with knives because someone is going to get hurt. In conclusion, the game was a mess. I wish i can return it but i downloaded the game. Expand

Review bombs aside, I am torn on how I feel about TLOU2. I paid no attention to the hype or the post-launch aftermath so I was able to pop it into the PS4 with absolutely nothing to color my opinion of what was to transpire. To wit, most of the complaints about an agenda are ultimately unfounded, but that only means that the game isn't 'trash', but I am struggling to say that it's great.Review bombs aside, I am torn on how I feel about TLOU2. I paid no attention to the hype or the post-launch aftermath so I was able to pop it into the PS4 with absolutely nothing to color my opinion of what was to transpire. To wit, most of the complaints about an agenda are ultimately unfounded, but that only means that the game isn't 'trash', but I am struggling to say that it's great.

I really enjoyed my time with TLOU2 while also disliking it at the same time, but not to the point where I would call it a bad game. On the one hand, as with its predecessor, Naughty Dog has made a solid stealth action game and proven that it can make games where weapons sound and feel powerful unlike with its other globetrotting action franchise (that, for the record, I despise - all four of 'em). On the other hand, it is absolutely enslaved by the story it wants to tell and the game suffers for it despite much of its execution being really well done.

Like my opinion, TLOU2 seems ultimately divided on what it wants to be. As a game, it is solid fare, but brings absolutely nothing new to the table and doesn't further the genre one bit. However, its production values are through the roof and if you have any appreciation for 3D artistry, it is found here in droves. Every little detail is accounted for and in a delightfully-smooth way. I spent much of my time simply admiring the environments, knowing just how much work went into each prop, character, and piece of debris, let alone gawking at the tremendous achievements in lighting. Yet despite all that, you're still scavenging for crafting items, sneaking around boxes, desks, crates, or whatever, and stabbing or choking people out. Unfortunately, due to the story TLOU2 wants to tell, you spend more time fighting people than zeds and a lot of the tension and suspense that the original title excelled at providing (courtesy of no-longer-at-Naughty-Dog Bruce Straley) is missing as TLOU2 becomes a standard shooter. It's very clear when danger is approaching as you'll pull out a weapon. It's very clear when you've killed everyone because the music stops and the character tells you so. It is very clear when you are expected to simply be exploring because it's safe to do so. Where traversal of the environment in the original was often clever and thrilling, here it's simply going from one arena to another and it just. Doesn't. Stop. For a game that brings so little to the table in terms of gameplay, to stretch what little there is over several tens of hours became absolutely mind-numbing, especially when the AI is so extremely exploitable. The game excels, as expected, when you are traversing zed-infested areas because they are relentless when alerted, but these are relatively few and far between. Most of the time, you'll be facing humans and they will file at you one by one, rendering most of the cat-and-mouse game completely moot. I often found myself going through empty areas because I simply killed everyone in one corner.

It's the other half of the game's identity - the one in which it pretends to be a film - that holds the game hostage. While it has been accused of having an agenda, I have to say that people with agendas tend to be more overt about it. Instead, TLOU2 suffers from an obsessive need to be understated and subtle. It's really not about furthering politics on any level (it's really not that deep), but hopelessly devoted to the "craft" of the storytelling. To its credit, it doesn't feel the need to bash you over the head and say "look at what we're doing," and quite often, the execution of key elements in the story are expertly done. It's the stuff surrounding it that really drags things out and the best way I can describe it is like a terrific novel that could be made better if you ripped about 200 pages out of it without losing a thing. Because of the obsession to give you as little explicit material as possible, you spend most of your time simply slogging through drip-fed revelations when much of the game could actually be cut out. If an entire third of your story is simply travelling from one point to another (and remember, the gameplay doesn't evolve at all), then most of it can be cut. As a result, the story isn't bad, but it's entirely too drawn out and the game itself is ultimately too damn long because of it.

Ultimately, it comes down to a game that, on the whole, is fantastic, but could use a tremendous amount of improvement. If gameplay evolved over its 30-40 hours of runtime, perhaps it would have been more compelling. If much of the fluff and uneventful content was removed, perhaps it would have been more thrilling. The story can be poked several times for its weaknesses, but it could also be held up several times for its strengths. Some characters have wildly inconsistent motivations or logic, yet those same characters can have extremely strong foundations and compulsions as well. It's rather inconsistent, and that's the rub.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game wasnt perfect but it was not far off from the feel of the first one. The game play especially was that same feel with a little more challenge to it. The sections do get repetitive and predictable by the time your a good 10 hours in but it's still fun.

Peoples main complaints seem to come from an attachment to the death of Joel, which definitely made me angry at first, but I assume that was the whole point. Maybe they could have done a better job of making Abby likable but truly by the end of her 10 hours I was invested and the clash with Ellie really made me upset that my two characters were now fighting. People seems to also not understand the Ellie story at all, she was a kid that grew up deeply troubled by what Joel did for her and she is wracked with guilt for even being alive. Her getting revenge was her way of making Joel's mistake mean something to herself on top of just being plain revenge. The fact that she couldn't do it at the end was a final release (we hope) of that guilt she carried around for years. And that is exemplified by the final flashback where she was finally ready to start trying to forgive Joel for what he did. If people cant see the catharsis there and not understand why she did what she did its not bad writing, it's bad understanding of human emotions and behaviors. Everything she did made sense, minus some plots hole the story was relatively tight.

The guilt from killing each member did not make much sense however and even if I can justify the pregnant one and the one she tortured I still feel like this part of the story was weakest and made the least amount of sense, shes killed so many people before why freak out now?

Anyways this game did not deserve the user score it received and is a beautiful sequel to a wonderful franchise. If they do another one after it I truly would hope they focus souly on Ellie though as the Abby character doesn't leave a lasting impression and at this point I only want to see Ellies fall from grace or her rise to the top, we have seen her grow up and her traumatized time for an end game.

The Naughty Dog was brave, she took risks; but she took a good risk and she did great. I felt more of those emotions, which start from happiness, to anger, to sadness, compassion, empathy, to the point of being empty. I didn't think I could feel all these emotions put together, in fact there was a time when I didn't know what emotions to feel - I was in trouble. Every point of view was important, and you have to be the most analytical to understand and appreciate what it is and that will be the masterpiece of years. Morality is there, and if you have not understood the meaning of history or, indeed, morality, you have not really understood what The Last Of Us is in general.

    P. S. Some critics are nonsensical, have the same modus operandi and all look the same: clearly they come from people who have not played it, those who have not understood it, who do not have a Playstation, or who feel "offended" by the themes covered in the game.

I have since played through the game a 2nd time and got the platinum trophy. My opinion is unchanged and only reinforced. This is one of the best game's I have ever played and arguably just as good if not better than the 1st game. While this is a direct sequel, both games stand alone as very different experiences that compliment each other in an incredible way. The Last of Us Part II is an experience like no other and is something that will stick with me for a long time. Bravo to the entire team at Naughty Dog for crafting something so ambitious and groundbreaking.

    Queue those initial thoughts:
The Last of Us Part II is the sequel to my favorite game of all time. My hype for this game was immeasurable and I luckily strayed away from all spoilers and went in with a completely open mind. I'm no game reviewer so i'll keep it fairly short. That being said, this game did not disappoint me in the slightest. I can't even begin to describe this emotional roller coaster of a journey Naughty Dog (@Naughty_Dog) so meticulously crafted. No game, no movie, no type of media has ever made me feel so many different emotions. One example being I have never cried my eyes out while playing a combat sequence before, let alone multiple times. Whether I was angry, confused, heartbroken, happy, laughing, or in shock, this game took me on a wild journey and held me in its grasps to the very end. You can tell there was a lot of love put into every single aspect, the environments, the level design, the little things that many might possibly not even notice. The attention to detail is staggering and the entire team should take a bow. The acting and writing is outstanding and Ashley Johnson (@TheVulcanSalute) puts on one of the best performances I have ever seen in any form of entertainment. The animations and visuals are drop dead gorgeous and the best I have ever seen in a video game. The gameplay is a huge step up from the first game and I enjoyed playing through every combat scenario immensely. The AI (at least on survivor) was incredibly smart and challenging and I felt like it made the experience more rewarding. Everything else aside, this was a brutal and emotional story worth telling and I believe it rightfully earned its existence alongside the first game. Whether you end up loving it like me, or hating it, I believe it is something you need to experience for yourself.

I found myself liking the new character as much, if not more than the ones from the first game.
Abby to me, was a female version of Joel, and by the end of the game, I was rooting for her too, because she's not a bad person. She's just trying to survive like everyone else... like Joel and Ellie...
In the end the gameplay was silky smooth, and the graphics are some of the best around. There were times I actually just walked around enjoying the scenery. A Masterpiece, masterfully done.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This does not feel like a true sequel to the first game. They took characters that felt real and that people loved like they knew them personally and killed them like there is no tomorrow, make their motivations make no sense, as well as introducing new characters that are either hollow or infuriating. It is sad that the story is simply so wretched too, because there was obviously a lot of great effort put in by a lot of great artists here. Many of the levels are intense and fun to play through. The environments are great. The graphics are top-notch. We even get one exception to the terrible new characters, as Dina is quite a joy to be around.

Ultimately what kills this game can be attributed almost exclusively to Abby, and everything that revolves around her. She is an irredeemable character, killing a character that was beloved by millions, even wanting to kill a pregnant woman out of vengeance, knowing that she was pregnant. Aside from being pure evil, she is not very interesting, as when they do try to make show her light side, she is simply bland. The writing relies far too much on her backstory to try to give her character instead of actually giving her a real character. And this would not be so much of an issue if we did not have to play as her through a third of the game.

Given the muddled and confused moral, and the equally confusing narrative structure and pacing, we are left with an experience that feels not only incomplete, but ultimately leaves us in a dark, depressed state. One of the best words to describe this feeling is probably "robbed". I feel robbed of the characters I fell in love with. I feel robbed of the true sequel that the first game deserved. I feel robbed of the mood that the first game left me with, which was not one of pessimism, but of "endure and survive". With the feeling this game gives, I don't know what is there to fight for anymore.
