This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The graphics, the AI, the animations, the gameplay loop and the intensity of the enemy encounters are all great. Naughty Dog has unbelievably talented people who are simply the best in terms of Game Engine development and refinement of their own technology. They must be really proud of what they've achieved throughout these years and they have the right to be.

My big issue with this game is the story and writing. Joel dies at the beginning of the Story, not a problem at all: sets the mood for a huge ride into revenge and violence in the streets of Seattle. I liked the powerful prologue and I couldn't empathize more with Ellie. I felt the same as what Ellie felt and that's what that prologue was supposed to do.
While in Seattle though, a series of very stupid events happen. Leah, Norah, Mel, Owen, Manny and other characters die (sometimes even by a death worse than Joel's) and no one seem to give a **** about them or notice their death (for clearly forced coincidences). Characters motivations are often very bland and weak and Abby's journey often doesn't make any sense and as a player you struggle to empathize with her and her journey to "redemption".

The ending was very weak and not as powerful as they thought it would be. Imagine sitting at Naughty Dog hearing authors saying "HEY, this walk to the beach following Abby and Lev thinking at what she has done must be really cool" well it's not. Like it's not cool the final fight which I get it is intended to be anticlimatic but not to that extent. In general the powerful story of revenge and redemption that TLOU2 was supposed to be ends up being just an "OK experience". The only thing I can do is to be suspicious of their next work, this game simply leaves me indifferent. No hate, no love.

I'd rather not to describe all what's bad about TLOU 2 or rather what's good have left out of the franchise ... In short - first thing I've done after completing TLOU 2 was launching the first part and trying to forget that the sequel has ever existed ... Desperately trying at least just a bit to restore my memory to the state before I ran this piece of crap

This game is a masterpiece! Whoever says the oposite is too shallow to understand how deep the characters are. It's a game about consequences. From the begining till the very end.

Don't pay atention to prejudiced ratings. Play the game, try to feel the characters' feelings. Their passion. Their anger. Their pain. After that, take your own conclusion.

El juego lo único que veo que quiere hacerte entender es que la venganza no es la solución a los problemas porque tras una venganza vendrá otra y con el ojo por ojo todos ciegos no veo nada de inclusión ni nada forzado.

But what a disappointment .. you killed all your fans from the beginning they were thinking by believing that someone would like this ???
And I think everyone, not only played this part but also the first one because that's how you encouraged it therefore everyone knew what the story was going to be and who Joel was but they come out with this and apart from this you are the whole game

After finishing an entire playthrough, I would not recommend this to anybody. From a technical and visual aspect, this game is very good. But the narrative/story ruins the entire experience. The entire game feels very tiresome, forced, and unsatisfactory due to the bad story. The amazing technical aspects of the game are unfortunately not enough to redeem itself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bad writing. Graphics are amazing, the music and the gameplay.
But the story, the literally killed beloved characters for the sake of killing, Joel's ending is so bad I wanted to end the game at that moment, the game feels so empty and sad, it feels like nobody, non the writers or the director was able to go over that moment.
And Abby, the most forgettable character of all time, not because lgtb stuff, it felt very cute when Ellie kissed the first time in the DLC, it's because how she is introduced, I mean Joel saved her, and then they tried to survive together, then seeing how it ends? man...
I loved TLOU, it's my favorite game period, but this, this is bad.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'd say I'm biased because I absolutely adored the first game, but clearly that's not the case because this game is getting some pretty nasty reviews from people who also loved the first one. I was beyond excited to see what The Last of Us Part II was going to be like from the moment the teaser trailer premiered in 2016, and I've played the first game countless times in preparation for the sequel which I was so excited for. After waiting seven years, tearing up with the physical disc in my hand, and playing through over 30 hours of the game and sitting through the entire credits sequence, I really cannot understand how anyone can realistically despise it as much as they do. Not only is it the most ambitious game Naughty Dog has made regarding just the "game" parts of it (graphics, gameplay, mechanics, etc.), but it is one of the most complex and intricately designed stories I have ever seen across any medium of entertainment. It's a story about love, hate, and loss, all in one. It makes you feel exactly what the characters are feeling, it forces you to see things from a different perspective, and it makes you reflect on not only the experience of playing it, but on yourself as well. I laughed, I cried, I felt intense rage, but simultaneously felt extreme empathy. Each and every plot point was carefully written and placed in a very distinct and entirely intentional spot, which makes it all the more impactful. The initial moment when Joel is killed by Abby is so painful and shocking that it left me at a loss for words, because that's what it was meant to do. If you were the slightest bit affected by Joel's death, then ND have successfully engaged you in the story. To judge a game simply off of this one event is so foolish that it baffles me, because honestly, there is so much more to the story than the death of a beloved character. It seems like nothing but a revenge plot at first, until it crosses the line quite a few times. Until you're forced to hit square while beating Nora to a bloody pulp, until you kill a dog, a pregnant woman, and the baby's father all within a few minutes/seconds of each other. Not only does Ellie question her resolve, but you as the player are forced to as well, and the second things start heating up, everything flips. The game forces you to walk in Abby's shoes, literally, and almost makes you start to like her. If you're anything like me, you reached the final conclusion regarding Abby that you could never forgive her, but you did learn to understand her and empathize with her, which I believe was the goal from the beginning. Lev and Yara are able to highlight those parts of Abby that make you wonder who the bad guy really is, and once Ellie leaves her picture perfect farmhouse family to pursue Abby again, that question is answered. Walking down the beach and reluctantly fighting as what can only be the shell of what once was Ellie, against the shell of what once was Abby, should be the moment you as a player realize that there is no good guy or bad guy. That's right about when Ellie decides to spare her life, and that was the moment that continues to stick with me weeks after my initial playthrough. As Ellie sits in the water crying, watching Abby and Lev leave in their boat, having lost everything, I as a player felt every emotion and couldn't help the tears from streaming down my face, too. That's when the game makes it even worse, and shows you just how much was lost when Joel died, because they shared a moment of attempted forgiveness the night before. At that point I already knew the game was a masterpiece, but as I watched Ellie set the guitar back down and walk away, it cemented that already obvious observation. This game is a work of art that people hate because it wasn't what they wanted or expected, which makes it all that much better. I didn't even know what to expect going into it, but it exceeded any and every expectation I had. I must give credit where credit is due, so a huge congratulations and thank you to every single person (and animal) that has worked on this game, including the actors/actresses, developers, animators, writers, directors, sound designers, and everyone else. You all created something beautiful from start to finish, which will stay with me and many other people for the rest of our lives. I look forward to the day that people will stop bandwagon hating this game and blindly making assumptions based on what they've heard, rather than the complete and true experience. Expand

The environment with the story serves you well.

The story takes you into a complex journey and emotional ride which will make you ask moral question whether something is good and bad. The story goes back and forth, showing you the unseen relationship between ellie and joel and the relationship between abby and her father; putting you on both perspective. The perspective of abby makes you see through her pain and why she took that revengeful path. This story gives you answer you didn't receive in the first one. Like did Ellie believe in Joel, did Joel regret doing what he did and so much more.

    The ending of this game does not serve as an ending, nor does it feel like it, it feels like a continuation of more stories that should be told. For me, this game is a masterpiece that could have deliver the story differently to please a wider audience, instead takes a more gruesome and realistic approach that leaves both a satisfying gaming experience and also a sweet and sour taste that will last for years to come;
I rate this a 10, because of the overall experience , together with its masterful graphics and memorable moments.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Reading through the user reviews here makes me more depressed than the grim, post apocalyptic world of TLoU series. Seriously, you guys made it seem like the story is SO disgustingly bad written, that I almost haven’t bought the game. I’m glad I gave it a shot after all. Now, we all know the game is visually stunning, the acting is incredible and the gameplay, while loved by some folks, has never been in the spotlight. So I’m just gonna focus on the story, cause this part’s been getting so much sh*t and I don’t think it deserves it. Part II is a commentary on what Joel did in the first game. Joel decided to sacrifice humanity’s future in exchange for his own comfort and paternal instincts. His relationship with Ellie was absolutely unique, which made me go “HELL YES, LET’S SAVE HER” when I played the original TLoU, but let’s face it - morally it was very questionable. Part II takes Joel’s actions and shows consequences in a way that made me devastated, but deep down I felt Joel got what he deserved. I think killing Joel off within the first hours was brutal, but fully justifiable.
The one thing that was bugging me throughout the game was Ellie - why is she so blinded with revenge, why is she willing to sacrifice literally everything she has just to avenge Joel. As the game moves forward, we find out about her complicated relations with Joel once she realized what he did in Salt Lake City. I felt for Joel for the way Ellie rejected him every time they were on screen in Part II. I think Ellie’s guilt for the way she treated him was the main driver of the events in Seattle. Again, story is intense, but fully justifiable.
Then there’s Abby. This is where most critique hits hard, and I understand why, yet disagree. The game forces you to play as the character that you utterly hate. Yes, at first it was a little off (kinda annoying with having to rebuild all gameplay skills all over), but shortly Abby turned out to be a truly compelling character that I really cared for. It made me consider that mindless killing from another perspective - not just the perspective of “the bad guys” because Abby’s journey goes beyond group divisions. By the time Ellie got to her on that beach I was thinking to myself “NOO, JUST FORGIVE HER, GO BACK TO THE FARM TOGETHER”. That’s how Abby and Lev grew on me. All in all I think that this “loads of plot holes” and “unlikeable characters” nonsense is just fanboys getting angry, because they didn’t want their original character to be brought to justice, and couldn’t stand a more granular approach to story telling.
Another thing people disliked was the fact, that most of the story took place in one city. Personally, I think the game really benefited from it, you could really get the grim vibe of the city, feel the topography of post-apo Seattle and soak into the bigger-than-life conflict between two massive groups. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved the journey in TLoU, but would I like to see it again in Part II? Probably not.
My main problem with the game was pacing - at times I felt overwhelmed with the amount of action, horror and tragedy, it’s like the game wouldn’t stop jump-scaring me. For instance, just before meeting scars for the first time, Ellie gets stuck in a building filled with Stalkers and Clickers. This is a very tense, creepy and long sequence - a lot of zombies, no lights, few resources to pick up. Then she finally breaks out, falls into the river and lands in the sewers. “WOW, THAT WAS INTENSE” I thought, and started looking for new resources, just to be freaking jump-scared by a wall clicker 2 minutes later. And these moments were just too frequent, with not enough “giraffe moments”.
But all in all, I get what creators wanted to achieve - a much darker tone than the original game. And you made it, it’s just not something I’d like to go through again.
To sum up - I liked the story. I feel like it’s compelling and a lot of criticism is just anger coming from people who expected Joel to live happily ever after, or those who couldn’t stand Ellie becoming sort of the villain.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
