    Stay down. Final warning.

Again, the story really does absolutely destroy any possible shred of enjoyment one could have in this sequel. It treats the established characters and fans by proxy like trash then forces you to play as an unlikable monster who NEVER gets their comeuppance which in turn causes the "revenge isn't the answer" theme the game has to completely miss the mark. Do yourselves a favor and just pretend this game doesn't exist. Cherish the first game forever. Hell, enjoy the LBGT-baiting DLC for the first game if you wish too, but just steer clear on this one. There is nothing of value to be lost if you just don't ever acknowledge it.

Hated this game as a massive fan of the original game. Probably the worst story I've ever come across in a game. Gameplay and graphics were good but they're really the same as the first one. Gameplay and graphics were good but they're really the same as the first one. Although many have asked whether we even needed a sequel to the first game, I think that's a reaction to this story. There are so many different ways they could have taken the narrative arc that would have been better than what we got with this. Never seen such manipulation through narrative choices which force the player to do things which they wouldn't want to do in a game. The darkness of the majority of the first game made the lighter moments between Joel and Ellie all the more poignant. The development of that relationship made the first game. There is none of that character development in the second game. This is just a nihilistic, depressing slog through endless violence disguised as high art. After all that, you are rewarded with a completely ridiculous and unsatisfying ending.

The death of Joel is the most troubling aspect of this game. Not that he dies, but the way in which he dies. Having to play as his killer for a portion of the game fails to make the gamer feel sympathy for the antagonist. It feels cheap and manipulative. Forcing content consumers to dwell in the murky greyness between good and evil seems to be a recent theme in entertainment. The disrespectful end to Joel’s story has a very familiar feeling to it. The destruction of all that came before to make way for agenda-driven narrative is a well-trodden path for entertainment content creators recently, most notably with the horrendous The Last Jedi. I'm not talking about any of the SJW stuff that many others have mentioned, although there are many boxes ticked here. The agenda I'm talking about is the one rampant in much of modern entertainment that seeks to divide the audience as much as possible. Beloved movie and tv shows have been utterly destroyed by this agenda of divisiveness recently. There are too many to mention by name although I've already mentioned one of them above. Its almost as if someone is ordering creators to make the most divisive entertainment imaginable. This would certainly be in line with the wider world, especially in politics, which has seen increasing division recently. Whatever happened to making universal stories that resonate with everyone?

People should ask themselves why creators are making such divisive content and whether they want to continue to fund this practice. The best art will always reflect the hope inherent in the human experience, no matter how dark our experiences on this planet may appear at times. The first game has hope as the core emotion. The sequel doesn't resonate on a deeper, visceral level as its bereft of hope. That's why I think if people were honest with themselves they would realise the majority of praise for the game is only intellectual in nature.

I won't be buying a PS5 after playing this game and I certainly won't be buying any other Naughty Dog game in the future. If this is the future of gaming then I'm out.

Naughty Dog used to be one of the best game developers in the industry. It really is a shame to see how far they've fallen under the leadership of Neil Druckmann. He has close ties with Anita Sarkisian (anti-gamer) and you can tell she played a major influence in this game. When it comes to The Last of Us Part II, it's some of the worst story telling from all games prior.

He has close ties with Anita Sarkisian (anti-gamer) and you can tell she played a major influence in this game. When it comes to The Last of Us Part II, it's some of the worst story telling from all games prior.

The only positive I could think of while playing The Last of Us II was how amazing the graphics are, but it's the epitome of proof graphics are not everything to make a good game.

Reviewers are right to compare this with Game of Thrones season 8, because that is where it falls in line in terms of story and character development. Not only do the characters from the original TLOU do things that are totally out of character all to move the plot along, but what happens to them is disrespectful and infuriating. It is not joke to say the story is not only a slap in the face to the fans, but a hard hitting nuke to head with Druckmann pissing agenda on the ashes (Yes, it's that bad!).

Aside from story, the gameplay is average at best, and mediocre at worst. While the original The Last of Us was ground breaking in terms of gameplay and story, it's a game that is now six years old! Part II does nothing groundbreaking from it's predecessor, and feels very last generation with very little to offer. It is a tedious exploration going from one area to the next, fighting hordes of enemies over and over only to have another cinematic with characters I care nothing about. After a while I just want to stop playing The Last of Us II altogether, and move onto something more enjoyable like God of War.

I truly believe with Niel Druckmann at the helm it will be the end of Naughty Dog after playing The Last of Us II. I feel terrible for the employees that work under him, their blood, sweat, and tears for an oppressive manager like Niel will only bring morale down within the company. Hopefully ND will realize the mistake they made with Niel and beg for Amy Hennig to come back to take the reigns again. It is wishful thinking, but it's going to be sad from here on out knowing how my once favorite developer has fallen from grace solely for an agenda they want to force down upon others, and gamers are the ones who lose because of it.

Worst writing from ND in years; no surprise since the mayor talent is long gone by now. The gameplay is not innovative by any means either. The game is far from being a masterpiece, that's a fact, not an opinion: Part 2 cannot even dream about achieving the greatness of Part 1.

So, don't be fooled by the name of the franchise: Part 1 was great thanks to former golden-era game director Bruce Straley; sheer genius not only on this franchise but all across the board of ND's most emblematic games as well.

Sadly, he's now long gone from ND, a departure that has exposed the fraud behind the game direction of Part 2 big time.

Add to the recipe the mayor lead talent who quit ND too due to unacceptable working conditions, and the consequences are easily predictable: ND's golden years are over, it has become a sinking ship of a studio.

The only thing great about this game: the soundtrack, nothing more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start off my review by saying that I had very high expectations from a sequel to one of the best games of all time. The Last of Us is a harrowing story about loss set in a post apocalyptic world and it was the work of wonderful people like Amy Henning and Bruce Straley. The fact that they did not return and that Amy was forced out of the company already should've rung alarm bells for everyone. But despite that, i took my chance.

    And was utterly disappointed.

Let me start off by listing the few positives of this game. The combat has improved, and the world looks beautiful and immersive, which is fair game and expected from the developer of Unchartered 4. That's the only reason it gets 2 stars from me.

But the story. My God, the story is a dumpster fire. It's like someone wrote down words from excrement and plastered it into the script.

The whole point is, the story itself has so many loopholes with little logic and the characters act so out of tone with what they are and have been established as in the first game that it can only be tantamount to lazy writing.

Take Joel's death, that meetup with Abby does not even feel organic (it's a random hit in with runners). Next, the fact that Joel saves Abby from runners and still is brutally tortured to death by her with utter disregard for saving her life completely throws one off completely. It's like the writer chose shock value over basic common sense to kill Joel off in the first 2 hours of the game!

In the first game, Joel could tell someone was faking help and was extremely wary. How does Neil Druckman expect us to believe Joel would go out of character and just lower his guard and walk into a room armed full of people from another country and tell them his own identity? The man was wanted over the country for his massacre of the Fireflies and Naughty Dog expects us to forget that? Also, how could Abby ascertain this was the only Joel they were looking for?

The plot holes are as big as quantum singularities aka blackholes and it's not even the beginning.

After shamelessly killing off one of video games most beloved character in such a disgusting fashion (the golf memes are on point), Neil Druckman forces us to step into the shoes of the killer, Abby, and tries to force feed us "the other side" from her perspective. To further add salt to our wounds, a self insert of Druckman spits on Joel's body and hurls abuses at him. I understand you had to let Joel off, but atleast do it in a respectable way! Like some self sacrifice that was how it was done by Rockstar brilliantly in Red Dead Redemption or Arthur Morgan in RDR 2.

The game also retcons Joel's decision and tries to show us he was wrong, when in the first game even the Fireflies knew that all previous attempts at creating a vaccine using live test subjects had failed. And it tries to literally show to us that Joel was the villain, when in effect he was a man who did not want to lose another daughter to a slim chance.

Let's move on, Ellie then goes on a revenge quest, and massacres a huge number of folk along the way. The vast majority of the game displays us this gore and violence over and over again that it becomes numbing and nauseating. The game is bleak just cause it wants to show it is bleak and not because there is some method to madness or grand design. It doesn't gasp for air at all save in momentary flashbacks.

The player visibly feels enraged and wants Joel to be avenged by partaking in this violence through Ellie but then in the very end, Neil Druckman completely forces us to accept the one choice of NOT KILLING ABBY all in the name of "cycle of revenge is bad". The fact that this was so badly done and ham fisted is what has enraged folks rightly.

The fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War did themes on revenge better than the Last of Us is utterly shocking and disappointing. At least Naughty Dog should have let the player take the choice of killing Abby or not but the fact they force fed us this hogwash is what has drawn fans of the game into righteous rage. What was the whole point of revenge and showing violence if it was all bad? That whole spell of violence Ellie does is rendered useless in a single epiphany. Ellie loses everything and gains nothing, rather than projecting violence and revenge is bad, the game actually ends up making a strong case for it!

This ending and the way the game pans out really what has driven fans on the edge. This is worse than GoT season 8 and Star wars. The reaction is justified and Neil Druckman will be called out and face a backlash for this dumpster fire of a video game.

In the first Last of Us, Ellie tells us the her fear was to end up left alone. The game ends on this note, her fingers bitten off in the final fight with Abby, her partner Dina has left her, her protector Joel is dead. It was, to quote the first game "really all for nothing".

This is the first time I have ever given a 0. Who would ever think that what started as one of the greatest franchises ever made with TLOU1 would end up in the drain like this.

I am one of the victims of knowing the spoilers before getting the game and was terribly sad to hear it, as I waited in excitement for 7 years to see my favorite characters joel and ellie again, maybe taking on the virus situation, and seeing their relationship grow more and the story progress, possibly finding out more about the world and infected etcetera, the leaks were terrible and I knew they were real, but I still wanted to give the game a fair chance, while all my friends were already full on hating and saying they're not gonna buy the game and that I shouldnt either, I still wanted to try it first anyway, I loved the first game so much, I couldn't not try it.

However, sadly the leaks are as said, and it is actually worse, I never thought this could be possible, I thought even if I didn't like what they did with the story at least I would still enjoy the game at least for whats left, but I didn't.. The whole experience I was not feeling it, its not like its predecessor, the first game flowed so well and the characters drew you in so easily, it felt realistic and relatable, the story was perfectly paced, here almost everything is the total opposite, I ended up forcing myself to keep playing as I was losing interest early on, then when the dreaded moments from the leaks came into play I just literally despised it, not in a good way like when you hate a movie character because it is played so geniously evil by the actor, but i hated naughty dog, i hate what they have done to this wonderful game, i am all for lgbt, and equality dont get me wrong, i dont mind transexuals or gays nothing, it doesnt matter what someones prefference is or love interest, but you added and forced so many things in this game to the point its not even about the orignal story anymore but something totally different, almost like spinoff. The writing is terrible.

WHY do you have to include and force this narrative into a story that had NOTHING TO DO with that, sacrificing everything people loved about the first game to make a point, it was about survival, about characters we loved, Joel and Ellie, Joel having such a rough life and but staying strong through all the crap he experienced, meeting ellie, slowly growing to love her as his own daughter, this was wonderful, we wanted MORE OF THIS. It didnt matter that ellie was a lesbian, it wouldnt even matter if joel was gay, do you get it?! but you made the whole sequel focus on this subject, it suddenly has nothing to do with the apocalyptic world and the virus anymore, it just DOES NOT make any sense, it turns into an lgbt driven story about "hate" obviously white male hate and straight hate, Joel.. One of the greatest characters of all time who went through so much, had to be sacrificed for this?? I expected that joel would die in part II, im fine with that, but this? this is SO forced and does not make any sense, it doesnt feel natural like how the story in 1 felt, in the last of us 1 everything felt like it was really just happening as you went on, it was written perfectly, here you just know its forced, it feels like they HAD to include this. They just killed him because hes a strong male. YES JOEL WAS A STRONG STRAIGHT MALE, so what?? He was a good example of a father figure, a strong man who protects his loved ones, who WENT THROUGH SO MAN AWFUL EVENTS BUT STAYED STRONG. I hoped for something like where Joel was Old and now Ellie had to protect him, and that maybe he would die in another way n ellies hands or something, something emotional that we'd love bittersweet. What you did is totally destroy all the potential of a wonderful sequel. The new character is also NOT a good example at all and feels totally forced, its just ridiculous, and actually offensive to the lgbt community.

WHY the heck did naughty dog let Druckman do this? Why was he not removed at some point by the ceo? Kojima did not deserve to be removed from MGS but Neil Druckman sure did. It's ja slap in the face for all the fans. You let Druckman burn a whole franchise to the ground and turn all the fans who loved the first game against you, let that sink in Naughty Dog... You let him do this so you are also responsible. If all of that wasn't enough yet afterwards you restrict YouTubes talking about the game or giving honest reviews, AND paying for high ratings at review outlets to make sure the game still sells well even if it means deceiving fans. This is unacceptable and you went from my favorite developer to my most hated in a matter of days. I will never buy your games again. Unless maybe you fire Neil Druckman and make a public apology to the fans. Fans have taken **** from developers long enough, but this takes the cake, you get the award for most effed up destructions of a game in gaming history.

The graphics are nice and the game play is what you would expect from ND, but the writing is cringe and elementary. This is self indulgent drivel and they have essentially ruined the original game by retconning it to death.
