This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game surpasses most movies and novels with an uncompromising vision for the story it must tell. Naughty dog has crafted more than a game and simply reducing it to nothing more would be asinine. The Last of Us 2 skirts the line of moral ambiguity in the name of artistic expression and for that there are people that won’t appreciate what it tries to convey, hence the overwhelming negative reviews. If you enjoyed the first game you must ask yourself why. Why did you enjoy a game set in a post apocalyptic world hellbent on making survival for humans so difficult? The first game tells Joel’s story and within minutes rips your heart out of your chest forcing you to feel the way Joel does. While progressing through the game you meet Ellie and both characters establish a Father Daughter relationship that gets tested numerous times only to become stronger at the end. Joel does some heinous things in the name of love. Ellie witnessed all of it and the player at the end is left with a moral dilemma as to whether it was okay for Joel to betray the trust of the only person he cares about. The Last of Us 2 takes us on a journey about what it means to love and at what cost we do things that may go against our moral fiber. Let’s get this out of the way... Joel isn’t a hero. Ellie isn’t a hero. There are no heroes in this game. No good versus bad only people doing what they feel they must to survive. Who are we (the player) to decide what is right and wrong? The game forces you into an uncomfortable perspective many people will push against. It will evoke anger, frustration, sadness, happiness, despair and hope through many of the cleverly placed cutscenes throughout that make up the game’s narration. It begs to be played more than once and will gladly provide you with perspective “IF” you as a player keep an open mind to accept it for what it is rather than what it isn’t. This is not a love letter to fans. It’s not a happy game and will likely leave you with a gaping void right through the middle of you after it’s finished. The graphics are some of the best we’ve seen this generation. The sound is nothing but high quality from the effects to the sound of gunfire in the distance. Voice acting rivals that of Oscar performances in movies and the music fits perfectly. This is a game that is finely crafted and isn’t afraid to show you in the least what it’s capable of. Make no mistake, this isn’t just gaming at its finest. It’s nothing short of gaming nirvana and will undoubtedly leave you breathless if you’re willing to step into it’s world and play by it’s rules. This game just has such meh gameplay, why does it deserve a 95 for its mediocre gameplay and even outright self insert sex scenes from the director. I think this game does not even closely DESERVES a 95, at most a 70. Why kill off such an important character, like an hour into the game? Why cancel someone’s death, due to leaks? Why let the game leak at all? Completely ruined the one thing this game had going for it; the story. Awful game and Awful motives. Never returning again, EXCEPT to the store. Expand

Terrible story, same mechanics of the first one.already has some softlocking glitches, agenda pushing, insults to religion's, main and side characters die or become weak unlike the first, should've had us play as tommy instead of the person you let die a million times. Just all around terrible garbage with outdated mechanics and graphics is the only thing viable 0/10. Expand

Overall, the game is a great stealth-action experience with an interesting story. With the exception of a few too many gameplay segments where you're essentially just walking around and listening to dialogue, while throwing ropes to climb, The Last of Us Part II is a fantastic sequel to the original game.

Atirar no game é prazeroso.

Seriously: If you plan on playing The Last of Us II avoid spoilers! It will ruin this amazing experience for you. You still might not enjoy this sequel in the end, but this game derves an "open-minded" and unprejudiced approach.

(I'm not a native, so please excuse my English)

To begin with I want to thank Naughtydog for both The Last of Us and The Last of Us II as these games have touched me and made me tear up like no other game. I do not think that you deserve all this hate. You have put together an amazingly well crafted, detailed and emotional game. Now there is some valid critissism to this game, it is far from perfect (but than again what game isn't), which I will adress later. As I mentioned the The Last of Us series is extremly emotional so I really wasn't suprised that the sequel to one of the most beloved games turned out to be this controfersial and polarizing. This game will make you feel uncomfortable, this game will make you furious and this game might even make you grief but that's what makes it uniquely emotional (at least for me)! Don't get me started on homphobic and hateful comments, but fortunately this is only a (very loud) minortity. Nevertheless these comments have to be adressed and condemned!
Just to get this out of the way: I can 100 % understand if you did not enjoy the game, this is not a guaranteed 10/10 game. This game is extremly controversial, as your experience will largely depend on how you fell about Joel's death, you having to play as Abby and the character's "experimental" development. Will you get snapped out of the story and remain mad at the developers or will you be abel to lose yourself in the story anyways? Well to be honest whilst playing the game I sometimes also felt conflicted about the choices that were made. But ultimately I accepted the coices and had my most immersive gaming-expierence ever, which propably would have not been as easy if I hadn't avoided spoilers. So as I said I do respect if you didn't like the game, but at least give Naughtydog credit for the amazing production value and all the work that has been put into the game, it's not a 0/10 game.

But now let's get to the point. What did and didn't I like about the Last of Us II:
    (+) Emmersive world
    (+) Emotional and innovative story
"If I ever were to lose you, I'd surly lose myself"
After losing Joel Ellie was taken the chance of forgiving and making things right with Joel, which is not only extremly depressing from Ellie's point of view but also for the player himself. We immediately feel fury and anger arising, we want to do Joel justice by killing Abby. But as the story progresses we have to witness that the Ellie we learned to love is slowly alienating from herselve. She is on the verge of becoming another humanlike, murdering monster roaming the post-apocalyptic world. Once it was Ellie who reminded Joel of the beauty and innocence in the world now she is the one "descending into hell". Again and again do Ellie and Abby meet but Ellie never gets the chance of taking revenge. It isn't until the end that Ellie has Abby's life "hanging by a threat". But in that very moment her last moments with Joel came to her mind, moments not filled with hatred but with forgivness. Ellie lost loved ones, she abandoned family and home, she brought suffering into the world but she has not fully lost herself. A small part of her did not fall victim to her vengefulness, she did do Joe right in letting humaneness prevail over hatred.
The Last of Us II was a challenge indeed. Was I myselfe able to overcome my grief and forgive Abby? Lukily Yes. Do I understand it when people have a problem with this game? Absolutly! Did I expect this game? No! Did I want this game? No! Do I whish the Story had turned out differently? Yes! Do I wish Ellie had crawled back into bed with JJ and Dina? Of course! But was this the most emotional gaming-expierence I ever had? Most definitly!
    (+) Improved gameplay
    (+) Amazing graphics
I think this is something we can all agree upon. This game is simply gorgeous. Whether you're looking at snowy landscapes, rainy Seattle or Ellie's and Dina's fairytale-like farm it will leave you breathless.
    (+) Outsanding level-design
(+) The last of us is as charming as ever
Did anyone not have a big smile on his face whilst playing the Joel and Ellie flashbacks or as we first explored the streets of Jackson or as we realized Ellie and Dina had started a family together...?
    (+/-) Joe's death feels rushed
    (+/-) Sometimes feels emotionally manipulative
    (-) Too much looting
(-) Sometimes overdramatic and lessing subtle
In conclusion The Last of Us II is, in my opinion, a well crafted, extremly emotional and human, inperfect non the less, masterpiece. It left me crying, raging, griefing and blissfully smiling. Simply amazing!
    Thank you Naughtydog!

Sound Design: Every single detail related to sound in this game was nailed! From the breaking of glass, to the crunching of snow underfoot, to the gunfire in different environments, to the immaculately well-done voice acting, this game immerses you quickly with how well made the sound structure of each individual moment is. While the soundtrack was a bit lacking compared to the first game it still succeeded in driving home the emotionality of the story. Score: 9.25

Level Design: Much less linear than the first game, the moments in which you are in combat are done remarkably well. There are many more moments of tense gunfights both against the living as well as the dead compared to the first game, and these rarely feel stale thanks to the options when it comes to engaging your opponent, whether that be "guns blazing," stealth, or avoiding the enemy. Score: 10

Graphics: Best in the industry. That's it. That's the paragraph. Score: 10

Story: This is not what the average toxic fanboy wanted - a typical revenge story. Instead, this is a story with complex motives and reasonings as well as characters who each follow their own beliefs. As it is a sequel, it is difficult to flesh out the development for the characters like it would be in the original IP, however, Naughty Dog did well directing those moments in flashback sequences. Pacing is an area of the game that struggles. There are often moments where you may be overwhelmed with the slog of tasks to do as you struggle from place to place in Seattle - this is the game's weakest point, in my opinion, giving you multiple false endings before the satisfying real one. While the pacing was tough to overlook, the end made it all worth it. Score: 9

    Overall Score: 9.5

I wrote this review like 3 times already, but HERE WE GO AGAIN, I loved the amount of detail they put in graphics, the level design is just gorgeous, the music is perfect and memorable, the story is believable, very sad, and touching, BESIDES I gave it a 10/10. There were things I DID NOT LIKED about the ending. It leaves you kinda unsatisfied, This will sound a little dramatic, but they closed the story for this characters, that's right, all of them, I didn't mind they killed Joel, it was good and necessary for the arc they wanted to tell, but ripping off Ellie's fingers, we will never play as Ellie again, I'd love to see spin-offs with other characters but, Ellie is what's left of the face of The last of us, without her, making a part III, would not be as engaging, I get, Abby and Lev are the new main characters, but they can be in a Spin-off, I really don't think they deserve to replace Joel and Ellie. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I thought the gameplay was pretty good but the story not so much. The game is basically about abby and not ellie. I feel neil had a different story planned but allowed a Hollywood writer (Halley Gross) come in a muck it all up and change everything! I believe the story was originally going to be tommy that died and not joel. I say this because in the trailer joel meets up with ellie not Jesse and it seems joel and ellie would of went after Tommy's killers and that, in my opinion, would have been a better story. The writing isn't like Neil's writing in this game and it was all over the place which isn't how neil writes at all. Seems awful funny that neil has always written great storys and now all of a sudden halley was involved in writing the story and its complete garbage. I feel neil has sold his soul to Hollywood and now his writing will be generic trash because he won't have the freedom to do what he wants and will have to listen to corporate Hollywood. I hope these bad scores (mostly from the writing) wakes neil up and allows him to get back to what he does best! If there is a third one, please dont screw it up as well! Expand

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then...
